Here we are everyone, the beginning of week one.  Most of us have completed our drafts and are looking forward to Thursday’s game.  There are still those pondering changes and wondering if there are better options out there than their current rosters.  Let’s look to Yahoo Fantasy Football to see who the hot adds and drops are up to this point (September 1st).

Cody Parkey, 13% owned – Cody who?  Yes, this is the new kicker for the Philadelphia Eagles.  Many of you probably do not know this but Alex Henery was released yesterday to make way for this new guy.  Mr. Parkey has been added 19,877 times today and it is probably because of the Eagles ability to score.  I would wait to see how he fares in his first week before even considering him.  Although, I have to say that I drafted Brandon McManus from the Broncos (at least for the first four weeks) because I know of the opportunities that lie ahead.

Travis Kelce, 21% owned – This is more like it.  The Chiefs have been without a playmaking tight end since Tony Gonzalez left town for Atlanta.  Kelce has been added over 10,000 times today across all Yahoo fantasy leagues and it could be for good reason.  He should be a sizable part of Alex Smith’s offense.  He is a big play type TE and provides the Chiefs with a receiving weapon (and is the reason they did not pursue any big name receivers in the off-season).

Derek Carr, 5% owned – It was announced today that Carr would get the keys to the Oakland offense in place of Matt Schaub.  What can we expect from Carr?  Who knows, but at least he is getting the opportunity t0 play.  It is obvious that the Oakland coaching staff didn’t see much in Matt Schaub in the preseason (neither did the rest of the world).  He was added 9.739 times today – man are there some pathetic fantasy rosters out there!

Matt Prater, 59% owned – I get it people, don’t roster more than one kicker.  I don’t get it people, not rostering Matt Prater over speculative late round adds.  If I had an extra spot (which I might shortly) in any of my fantasy leagues, Prater would take it.  Dude can crush the ball and he kicks in bad weather.  He was dropped in over 8,000 leagues today alone.  Someone is going to snatch him up off the waiver wire before his suspension ends…. and it might just be me.

Terrance West, 47% owned – Woah, talk about a bad turn for a guy who was projected to take the starting job from Ben Tate this season.  Coach Mike Pettine has officially placed West in the dawghouse and it isn’t pretty.  In his last preseason game, West gained 13 (yes, 13) yards on six carries, fumbled, and had no passing targets.  We all know how prolific the Browns’ offense will be this season… stay far away from this guy.

Knowshon Moreno, 68% owned – Really, only 68%?  He was added 4,483 times today and it is for good reason.  A local Miami newspaper (The Miami Herald) mentioned that he is the “clear cut starter” for the Phins as they face off against the Patriots this weekend.  I was a bit surprised to see that he had less than 70% ownership, especially because Lamar Miller is no all-pro.  Add this guy if you can – it is worth the gamble for a possible RB1.

Would like some comments on my team if you would … It’s a 10 team PPR league but we’ve got big starting rosters. It’s a keeper and players can be kept from year to year but the round in which you keep them halves each year. If you draft someone in the 10th this year, you can keep him in the 5th next.

    QB Newton
    RB Murray, Matthews
    WR Johnson, Edelman
    TE Olsen
    W/T Amendola, Britt
    W/R Bell and Bell
    W/R/T Stacy and jones (oak)
BN Douglas, Boykin, Streater, Miller, Richardson, Bryant, Beckham Jr

    k Novak
    Def – Buffalo

IDP – Berry (DB), Willerson (DE), Willis (LB)

Any suggestions on players I might keep an eye on? Jermichael Finley, Floyd, Daniels, Allen, law Firm are the kind of players on the WW.

    Thanks for reading.

@Dan: Woah! Definitely Floyd and Allen. Floyd will be a WR1 in the next couple years and Allen already is.

@Doc Matt: bet money he meant malcolm floyd and TE Allen.

Would you drop any of these current bench guys for the Kelce potential? We have a WR/TE flex spot with Olsen as my current starting TE:
    Mike Evans
    Rod Streater
    Reggie Wayne
    Devonta Freeman
    Benny Cunningham
    Jonathan Grimes

@Cram It: NM, I’m gonna sit tight!

Probably a good idea, at least for week 1.

@Cram It: I would take Kelce over Streater or Cunningham.

Drop Sankey, L. Miller or Moreno? Need a kicker for Week 1.

…You don’t have anyone else to drop?

        @David: NOPE!

        Qb – Ryan
WR – Nelson, Cruz, A. Johnson, Wright and Wayne
RB – Lacy, Stacy, Tate, Sankey, Moreno, L. Miller
        TE- Reed, Rudolph
        K- NONE
        DEF- STL

@SMLV1: you really need 2 TE’s that much.?

  4. David says:

    My RB’s are:
    Marshawn Lynch
    MJD

    Pierre Thomas
    Devonta Freeman
    Danny Woodhead
    Chris Ivory
    Ahmed Bradshaw

So some RB’s sink in, I’m a little thin and not comfortable with MJD as an RB2

Just got offered a trade of MJD for Knowshon…I think a starting Knowshon has more upside..thoughts?

@David: I would wait. Both of these guys are in similar situations and you would want to see how it plays out in week one.

  5. Clint says:

Moreno or Le’Veon Bell? I snatched Bell after agreeing with Jay on his love for him but Moreno is also available.

      @Clint: Bell, definitely.

Sup Doc, 10team h2h. Kelce or Bennett?

    Thanks!

@740: Hmm. Go Bennett, but it might be close. He is a proven guy.

Never thought I’d ask this, but would you roster both Mcmanus and Prater to start the season or just roll with Matt Bryant?

    • Doc Matt

Roster Bryant and Prater. I like Bryant this year because the Falcon offense should improve. Prater is money and will be your guy after the suspension.
