I hope you all had a wonderful Halloween and you get to pick out the good stuff from your kids’ candy bag. Man, even if you don’t have kids, I hope you bought the kind of candy that YOU like to hand out to trick-or-treaters. Two for me, one for you. That’s how this works. I spent my Halloween by drinking beers in my friend’s garage while the kids went out into the world, but after that, I took a private jet to the first annual mid-season Razzballies. It was a glorious event and all of the best and worst of fantasy football came out. Ezekiel Elliott was there in a cutoff shirt. Dwayne Bowe received a lifetime achievement award. Each winner received a different phallic trophy that was uniquely designed by our own Donkey Teeth. I made it just in time to catch all of the major awards and here is what I saw.
Please, blog, may I have some more? This will be the second installment of Stat-o-Matic where we will look at some advanced stats around the NFL. As a disclaimer, I am using this space to play around with some numbers and present some interesting findings. But, by no means is this validated or predictive data. I hope that it will lead to meaningful discoveries or it could inspire you to go down your own rabbit hole. We’re going to explore together, crunch some numbers and see what pops out.

What are you ranking? Everything! You get a ranking, you get a ranking, everybody gets a ranking! You’ll find my Standard, Half-PPR, and PPR rankings below.
What are my rankings bona fidas? Well, there’s finishing in the FantasyPros Top-10 Draft Accuracy (7th Place) in 2017, Top-25 Weekly Accuracy (23rd Place) in 2017, Top-5 Draft Accuracy (3rd place) in 2016, Top-10 Weekly Accuracy (10th Place) in 2016, Top-25 Weekly Accuracy in 2015 (21st Place) and on average we’ve finished in the Top-10 Draft Accuracy (9th Overall) and the Top-20 Weekly Accuracy (18th Overall) for the past four years and finished 30th overall for our Draft Rankings with a 32nd overall finish in Weekly just last season. And this is out of over 100+ industry sites and experts year-after-year. I’d like to think we’re pretty good at this stuff…
What does the word bona fidas mean? According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, bo·na fi·des ˌbō-nə-ˈfī-ˌdēz , ÷ˈbō-nə-ˌfīdz means 1 : good faith : sincerity, 2 : the fact of being genuine —often plural in construction, 3 : evidence of one’s good faith or genuineness —often plural in construction, 4 : evidence of one’s qualifications or achievements —often plural in construction. On a separate note, I think it would make a great name for a cat.
What’s my ranking process? I’ve actually written about this in the past, and instead of working hard for new and enlightening content, I have chosen the more efficient (lazy, ahem) method and dropping in a link to that post here. Honestly, my process hasn’t changed much at all (the ole “don’t fix what ain’t broke” proverb comes to mind) and so my “A Day in the Life of a Fantasy Football Ranker” story still remains relevant to this day. (The TL;DR is: I’m lazy as fudge. Well, I mean the other “f” word, but I’m hungry.)
How should I use your rankings? The same way your mother does. Which actually makes no sense. (Unless your mother is in the running to always finish top-3 in your Fantasy Football league. And if that’s the case, say hello to her for me.)
Please, blog, may I have some more?It was a quieter week than the previous ones. A few players suffered some extended injuries, and one QB that lashed out in the media; then mysteriously suffered a neck injury.
Let’s talk about who landed on the injury report this week.
Please, blog, may I have some more? Now that the trade deadline is over, players can settle with their team and focus on the rest of the year. We are in prime time playoff push and it is time to make some smart decisions to help us get there. This week I have some interesting streamers that will fill in while your starters are on bye.
Please, blog, may I have some more?B_Don and Donkey are back profiling several rookie running backs on the Razzball Fantasy Football Podcast. First, the guys take a look at the film on Da Bears David Montgomery who has shown signs of life in recent weeks, despite the putrid offense in Chicago.
Please, blog, may I have some more?As I’ve gone through the process of completing the rest of season rankings, I’ve noticed a trend. The number of players that I have a strong confidence in for the rest of the season is dwindling… Fast! Whether this is from the regular attrition of the NFL season or the changing landscape of the way coaches deploy their personnel, it is happening.
Please, blog, may I have some more?As trade season is approaching it’s end in fantasy leagues, so too is this post in it’s current iteration. For the next two weeks, I am going to focus on players to buy in preparation for the playoffs. Now is the time to get your rosters set. Looking at who you will want to have moving forward is a big key to success in the playoffs. Let’s take a look at a few of those players who could help you reach the final goal. The goal of winning that cash or bragging rights.
Please, blog, may I have some more?I think that this Friday we will go over the mid-season awards instead of a Thursday Night Football Recap. Do we really need to recap a 30-3 49ers victory over Kingsbury’s Court? I’m going to create some fantasy football Razzballies! I already have a couple written on a napkin at work. Nevermind, I think I threw that napkin away after lunch. There will be fun to be had and fantasy football frauds to shake our fists at, this much I promise you. But for now, it’s time to do our regular Wednesday thing where I give you my rankings and then you ask me questions in the comment section. Let’s go!
Please, blog, may I have some more?I’m still holding onto Johnson, so to speak, since we spent a lot on him last week. Same goes for Edmonds (even with Ken Drake adding to the desert confusion) though it isn’t looking good in the near term. Fear not as better days lie ahead…however some of you can’t afford to wait yet still have FAAB dollars left to spend. Done with hedging, let’s get to spending! (By this point in the season you should’ve spent some FAAB money so we’re updating the amount we have at this point to $50; if you have more by all means add it to the dollar amounts listed here):
Please, blog, may I have some more?Injuries on the last drive of a football game can be one of the most frustrating parts about fantasy football. You’re at home rolling your eyes with your victory already in the bag wondering why James Conner is still out there with a two touchdown lead over the winless Dolphins. Then it actually happens and your jaw drops and you go numb. James Conner gets up grimacing and holding his slumped shoulder.
It’s hard to get upset from an actual football perspective. The Steelers are 1 first down away from the victory formation and Conner had been running all over the Dolphins all night. Conner just ran into some bad luck. Conner also seems to always be banged up in one way or another. He’s had an ankle issue, a quad issue, and now an AC joint issue and we are only about halfway through the season. I’m not sure what the recovery timetable is for AC joint injuries is, or if he’ll miss any time at all. It’s definitely something we’re going to have to monitor as the week goes along.
Please, blog, may I have some more?B_Don and Donkey are back again talking fantasy football pick ups for week 9. Kenyan Drake’s prayers were answered yesterday as he was shipped out of Miami, making a new home in Arizona. The guys talk about the fallout from this move with Mark Walton being the top add and Kalen Ballage now being worth a speculative add in deeper leagues, even though he’s still terrible.
