And so it begins. While this is the eleventh podcast of our “season”, this shall be known, henceforth, as the first podcast of the NFL season. You know it’s legit when I add in Old English vernacular. THOUEST THOU! Tehol and I briefly went over some news items like James Jones signing with Green Bay and Fred Jackson signing with Seattle. We then moved onto the first slate of games in Week 1, going over the fantasy implications and what to look for this Thursday, Sunday, and Monday. As an added twist, Tehol and I started a game of Pick ‘Em and you’re invited! At the end of the year, I’ll take note of all the games both of us pick on the pod along with your picks in the comment section. If you guys (and gals) end up beating both Tehol and myself, whichever listener has the highest total of correct calls, you’ll get a Razzball t-shirt of your choice, on me! So go ahead and list your Week 1 winners below in the comment section.

New to Daily Fantasy Football? I am too! I’m trying out this new free FanDuel’s contest, where half the league is guaranteed to win. If you want, you can join up with me! (Played FanDuel before? You can build a team for $5 for a chance of $100,000, part of a one million dollar prize pool!)

@Jay: ok, here’s my pick em for both spreads and winners
NE to win and cover 7 (with PIT not having WR 2, RB 1)
GB to win and cover 7 (with CHI barely having any healthy WR)
KC to win and cover 1 even on road
NYJ to win but not cover 3 pts
IND to win and cover 2.5 pts on road
MIA to win and cover 2.5 pts on road
CAR to win on road but not cover 4
SEA to win on road but not cover 4
ARI to win and cover 2.5
SD to win and cover 2
TB to win and cover 3 (there’s no good pick at that spread probably though)
CIN to win on road but not cover 3
DEN to win and cover 4
DAL to win but not cover 6
PHI to win and cover 2
MIN to win on road and cover 2.5 (wow, that spread moved from MIN +3.5 to MIN -2.5, too bad i didn’t middle the shit out of this, early season those are more doable)
I reserve right to change any of these till gametime (i’ll post if so).

  2. Ryan says:
    (link)

I just drafted in a 10 team ppr league. I think I drafted a good well balanced squad. Do you think I drafted well? Do you see any room for improvement? I think my only weakness is defense. I’m kinda worried about my wr core.

    qb Ryan Tannehil

    wr andre johnson

    wr mike evans

    rb marshawn lynch

    rb lamar miller

    te rob gronkowski

    k cody parkey

    def patriots

    bn tyler eifert

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Ryan: I’m a big fan of Evans… I actually think you’re fine there. It’s a balanced team, like you said. Nothing to worry about here.

  3. Beware the Shit Rope says:
    (link)

just took this one over. 16 team PPR full pt league. .05 pt per return yards too. this team was apparently pretty good last year, but owner didn’t keep up this year and when draft was 3 or so weeks ago it kept mccown/gresham over grabbing what could’ve been 2 of these: gurley/abdullah/yeldon/k.white/green-beckham/parker. so i made all of these moves, how they look (full dynasty):
    dropped mccown/gresham for a.roberts/m.jones
    traded stafford + a.johnson for rodgers+riley cooper.
cooper was immediately dropped for d.freeman to make
    rodgers
    RB – morris/ellington/randle/m.jones/freeman
    WR – jeffrey/r.white/c.johnson/m.bryant/a.roberts
    TE – donnell/VD
    K crosby
    D PHI
start 2 WR, 1 RB, 1 RB or WR flex, 1 WR or TE flex.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Beware the Shit Rope: yeah, unfortunate situation, but you made some good first steps.

      • Beware the Shit Rope says:
        (link)

@Jay: ….and the comish changed the settings 36 or so hours after i joined such that SEA is projected by yahoo to score 51 pts per game. so that’s the end of that chapter.

  4. Big League Choo says:
    (link)

My only 10 team league, it’s 6pt pass tds no negative pts for ints/fumbles and 3pt bonus for 250 pass yds and 100 rush/rec

    QB Eli Manning
    RB Lynch
    RB J Stewart
    Flex D Martin
    WR Dez
    WR Jeffery
    TE Gronk

BN Blount, Decker, Stevie Johnson, B. Coleman, Vereen

Christine Michael went undrafted, should I lose vereen
    For him?

  5. BambooLounge says:
    (link)

Had my 12-team, half-point PPR Keeper draft last night (can keep 3 next season):

    QB: Rivers
    RB: Jamal Charles/Lamar Miller/Danny Woodhead/Knile Davis/Charles Sims
    WR: Jordan Matthews/Allen Robinson/Golden Tate/Jordy Nelson (6th Rd)/Eddie Royal/DeVante Parker/Phillip Dorsset (last round)
    TE: Heath Miller/Dwayne Allen
    DEF: Miami (then I stream)
K: TBD (free spot with Jordy on IR)

Finding that I either go too RB heavy or too WR heavy each draft this season. Yahoo hates Matthews/Robinson/Tate. Have them on multiple teams and Yahoo bitches in my draft report card each time.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@BambooLounge: you did fine. Those report cards are high.

  6. Sam says:

      • Sam says:

@Jay: Well its dynasty and was kinda thinkin the Browns are a better unit.. but might as wll just stream D’s.

Browms v NYJ, Mia v Was, Car v Jax, or GB v Chi. Leaning Mia on the stream.. do you concur?

        • Jay

          Jay says:

@Sam: Yeah, I like Miami there.

      @e: Reed.

  8. Henry Rowengartner says:
    (link)

in a 10 team keeper league and my co-manager and I decided to rebuild this year. We ended up doing very well in the draft catching breaks with players falling to us so now we are trying to compete. Cam Newton was dropped in our league and we have Eli Manning, Matthew Stafford, and Jameis Winston (just incase he lives up to a number 1 overall) rostered on our team right now. Our scoring for QBs: 0.25 per completion, 25 yards per point, 6 per TD, and -3.5 for INT. Would you drop any of them to grab Newton?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Henry Rowengartner: I would want Newton over Stafford, as Manning does the same thing, but slightly better.

  9. Barker says:

    Thinking cutler or garcon

I am having trouble trading graham –who should i be looking at for a trade with olsen ? A Davante adams or emmanuel sanders type or should i hold till after week one and take advantage of dudes with a lack of TE

And if it was you would you want to trade graham or olsen?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Barker: Cutler. I’d wait and see who you can trade him with after Week 1. Maybe someone gets injured or has a bad game.

I’d trade Graham to get more value back.

    • Barker says:

  13. snake says:

Hi I drafted a in standard scoring 14 team espn league last night.

ended up with 8 WR and 3 RB. would like to drop a WR to pick up a 4th RB, but the waiver wire is bare.

I’ll need a RB by week 5 due to byes, and would like to go for a high risk / high reward pickup before Week 1

Would you drop any of my 8 WRs for Chris Johnson or Ahmad Bradshaw?

My WR= AJeffery, DAdams, ARobinson, DParker, DFunchess, TWilliams, JJones, TLockett
    My RB= LMiller, LMurray, DMartin

    Thanks!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@snake: Naw, just hold. Watch for the waiver after Week 1.

  14. Harrison Ford in Air Force One says:
    (link)

    Well done, team.

Week 1: start Bradford @ ATL or Eli @ DAL?

Le’Veon and Gurley out, so trotting out Melvin Gordon and Ameer Abdullah. Still unclear what Alshon’s deal is. So I’m looking for some upside.

  15. OldMilwaukeePounders says:
    (link)

    Jay,

Which of these guys do you believe will end up with a long term job and/or a fantasy relevant role? David Johnson, Christine Michael, Dion Lewis, F-Jax?

I am considering adding one of them for depth purposes in multiple leagues.

    Thanks!

      • OldMilwaukeePounders says:
        (link)

@Jay: Thanks, homie. Do you like dropping Terrance Williams (6th WR) for either one and burning the 4th waiver priority? Or better off seeing if I can get one as an FA?

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@OldMilwaukeePounders: Not really to be honest. I actually like Williams this weekend…

  16. fortheworld says:

    Thanks!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

      @Ron: Gore and Julio.

  18. scott steelers says:
    (link)

Thinking about adding josh robinson and dropping devonta freeman. Also dropping funchess for DBG or Lockett. Any thoughts? Too soon to drop them? I just fear Carolina will be absolute shit and freeman will be stuck behind coleman all year

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@scott steelers: Thats fine on Robinson, but I’d hold on Funchess.

  19. Aubrey Plaza's Pillow says:
    (link)

ok, post draft and waivers it’s
    QB Cousins/RG3
    RB- AP/Morris/Sims/Michael/Helu
    WR – D-Jax/Agholor/Garcon/Roberts
    TE – Reed/Donnell/ASJ
    IR -N.Paul
K McManus (how DEN’s kicker wasn’t drafted when really bad ones were i have no clue)
    LB David/Trevathan/Anthony AND Kendricks (MIN)
    DE- Campbell/Heyward/Long
DT Donald/McDonald (the donald gang at DT)
    S – Bucannon/Collins/Byrd
    CB – Hall/Roby/Breeland

Trying to trade ASJ or Donnell. got an offer of Anthony + Donnell for Lofton + Stills. Kevin doesn’t like it due to Anthony having huge upside and he’s worried about Lofton’s 2 down playing time status. Did fix the Novak problem. very odd McManus wasn’t waivered by somebody ahead of me.

      • Aubrey Plaza's Pillow says:
        (link)

@Jay: now i’m getting clown offers like forbath/d.goldson (a used to be good but not so much anymore S who is on WAS) for my a.donald/mcmanus. Deals like this do happen in this league since we have to have so many minimum players on our team names, but jesus, i wouldn’t give donald for those two alone, even if i had NO kicker. I’m pretty sure this opp only drafted forbath to try something like this and will likely drop him in the next 2 days or less. Why nobody drafted DEN’s kicker in first place is batshit.

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@Aubrey Plaza’s Pillow: Yeah, McManus is pretty legit, not sure what happened there. Maybe slipped through the cracks?

          • Aubrey Plaza's Pillow says:
            (link)

@Jay: yet lambo was drafted and franks was waivered ahead of mcmanus.

  22. Let Us Now Praise Famous Death Dwarves says:
    (link)

finished that 23 man roster 12 team dynasty .5 PPR 2 QB league. I either misread when it started or it moved in the last 3 hours, but i showed up 15 minutes late to find (and i was expecting to start throwing things knowing what i’ve seen yahoo do to people this year in dynasties, but it turns out at the start of drafts, it DOES follow your own premade rankings) Rodgers/Manning(the old good one)/Forte after pick 3.2! 2 flexes so we can actually play 2 TE’s. 3 WR, 2 RB. 4 IDPs, but no positions so really no reason to not grab all and best LB’s everywhere, and with so many not using fantasy pros/razzball (or anybody else that knows their shit) it’s pretty sick what i end up with there.
    QB -Rodgers (1), Manning (3), Taylor (10)
    RB – Forte (2), Ivory (7), J.Bell (9), Woodhead (12), K.Davis (17)
    WR – Edelman (4), Allen (5), D-Jax (6), J.Nelson (13), Mike Floyd (14), Cruz (15)
TE Ertz (8), Green Julius (16)
    K Walsh (23)
    Team D Car (21)
    IDP David (11), Levy (18), Ogletree (19), Collins (20), D.Jackson (22)

Neither Ertz nor JT are playing week 1, and both also have same bye. That being said i think they both have huge long term upside (i also though JT would be IR-able, he’s not due to that asinine minimum 8 week IR NFL policy i forgot about, it needs to be like NHL or MLB). While not nearly as many QB’s went in 1st 2 rounds (only 5 went before i took P.Manning at pick 3.2, and only 1 other manager had 2 at that point (wilson/brees at 1.12-2.1), they went MUCH faster later than i thought and i probably almost missed having a decent long term #3 (only mccown/RG3/cousins/Fitzmagic/glennon?/manuel/sanchize went after). I got a pretty banged up team overall here (ertz/JT/nelson/cruz/mike floyd all hurt already). Nelson takes 1/2 of the IR slots. I had intended to wait for Tannehill/Bridgewater/Rivers (didn’t go until 5.3, 3.8, 5.10), but couldn’t pass up Manning at 3.2, even with long term hit due to his age. Made for fairly weak RB and WR of course.

best TE for this week (i have one spot with Nelson’s IRing).
can’t go Heath, waivers open later than tomorrow
Green/Tamme/Gilmore/Cook/Celek/Rivera/Hill/Watson. Might not be a bad idea to have my own Ertz handcuff.

    • Let Us Now Praise Famous Death Dwarves says:
      (link)

@Let Us Now Praise Famous Death Dwarves: so going Manning over Tannehill cost me having 1 of Cooks/Jeffery/J.Matthews/Sanders as my WR #1 instead of Edelman.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Let Us Now Praise Famous Death Dwarves: Green might be your best bet. Things like that happen, but it certainly hurts to miss out on those guys, but if Edelman is on point, he’s a soft #1, which isn’t terrible.

      • Let Us Now Praise Famous Death Dwarves says:
        (link)

@Jay: considering the large gap between when i took manning (3.2) and when i took edelman (4.11) i’m surprised it was only those 4 WR’s gone.

  23. Blint says:
    (link)

drop sankey and pick up cunningham?

    • Crapshoot Kershaw says:
      (link)

@Blint: might want to show rest of roster there.

      • Blint says:
        (link)

        @Crapshoot Kershaw:
12 team deep rosters 1 point PPR. We start 1 QB, 2 WR,2 RB,1 TE, 1 W/T and 1 W/R/T plus kicker and defense. So 8 roster starts

        QB- Romo , Flacco

RB- Jamal Charles, AP, Woodhead,Sankey, Reggie Bush,Knile Davis,Mckinnon

        WR-Brandin Cooks, Edelman,Martavis Bryant,Stevie Johnson,

TE- Gronk , Tyler Eifert,Larry Donnel

        K-Crosby Defense- Miami

        • Crapshoot Kershaw says:
          (link)

@Blint: bush could be the drop here.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Blint: Hold on Sankey. Bush is fine, but I don’t think Cunningham is really a worthy add.

      • Blint says:
        (link)

        @Jay:
Thanks jay! How would you rank Cunningham if he had the starting gig for all 16 games? Just trying to get an idea what tier RB he is!

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

          @Blint: Maybe 25ish? No worries!
