The 2023 NFL season is almost upon us, folks! Hallelujah! This time next week, we’ll be feverishly setting line-ups, looking for dynasty trade targets and be fully prepared to have our hearts broken. There isn’t a better feeling in the world.
Week 1 is approaching, and the dust has settled with teams cutting down to 53-man rosters. Now is the time to identify players you should target in their new situations and some you need to consider sending out into the ether. This week, Andrew Hall of Dynasty Junkies joined Matt Chester and me to break down all the cuts and signings and play a game of keep/trade/cut. For the entire conversation, make sure to download this week’s episode.

Post-Cutdown Day Dynasty Trade Targets
Evan Hull (RB – IND)
With the Jonathan Taylor saga far from over in Indianapolis, it’s next man up for the Colts backfield. Taylor will sit out the first four games of this season on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, and veteran RB Zack Moss suffered a broken arm and will not be ready for Week 1. That leaves rookie Evan Hull and veteran Deon Jackson to carry the load. Acquiring Hull is a smart bet on the Colts wanting to see what they have in the rookie RB. It already appears to be a lost season for this team, and with the current cost to get Hull, it’s worth a dart throw.
Josh Dobbs (QB – ARI)
The Arizona Cardinals, much like the Colts, look to be throwing in the towel on the 2023 season. Veteran QB Kyler Murray will be starting the season on injured reserve (IR). That leaves the starting job between newly acquired veteran Josh Dobbs and rookie Clayton Tune. While head coach Jonathan Gannon has refused to hint at who will start, it could go either way. No matter who gets the nod, they won’t likely be someone you can start confidently, even in Superflex formats. However, it’s always nice to have an emergency option at the ready, and Dobbs is free in most leagues right now.
Post-Cutdown Day Drop Candidates
Kenyon Drake (RB – FA)
At a time, it looked like RB Kenyon Drake had carved out a role for himself with the Arizona Cardinals. However, in a league that spits out RBs like a chewy piece of steak, Drake seems to be on his way to the great RB farm in the sky. Despite being on a skinny Colts team at the RB position, the team chose to cut the veteran ball carrier. Will he sign somewhere at some point during this season? Yes. Should you hold him and wait to see what happens? Absolutely not.
Trey Sermon (RB – FA)
Much like Kenyon Drake, RB Trey Sermon has reached the end of the fantasy-relevant line. However, unlike Drake, did Sermon ever really get the train going? After floundering in San Francisco as a rookie, Sermon logged two carries in 2022 with the Philadelphia Eagles and was released this week by the team. Many dynasty managers have held on tight to Sermon, hoping for a resurgence. He was supposed to be the man in San Francisco, after all. I know it isn’t easy, but it’s time to let go.
