Thanks for the rankings throughout the year Jay! Always very helpful! And merry Christmas
I’m in my ppr finals this week and have a few questions for you.
1: Trust Eli manning without beckham? Or pickup Phillip rivers vs Oakland
2: Tyler Eifert out, Richard Rodgers is my backup but has 2 catches the last 2 weeks. Not much on the waiver wire, do I take the gamble he gets a td? Only others are
    Maxx Williams
    Daniels/Vernon
    Walford
    Ladarius
    Kroft
    Griffin
    Blake bell

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Braun Weasleys: Thanks, you too! Feeling Rivers there. And eh, I might just stick with Rodgers there.

  2. don says:
    (link)

Glad to be posting this week. Thanks for all the rankings this year.

Need to pick 3 RBs standard scoring.

    T. Gurley
    J. Hill
    G.Bernard
    J. Allen
    C. Michael
    M. Gilleslee

    Which three would you play?
and also which three have the highest ceiling?

    Thanks

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@don: Thanks for hanging out! I’d probably go Gurley, Hill and Bernard. I think Gurley, Hill and Allen do, but Allen had a terrible Week 15.

      • don says:
        (link)

        @Jay:

You would start Hill and Bernard together in a pretty tough matchup? Hmm what is the reasoning for that?

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@don: Just to cover my bases. Let’s say we start Hill and Allen, and both lay a goose egg. Maybe cornering an entire tandem is a guaranteed way to get some production. My thinking anyways.

  3. endershadow says:
    (link)

Thanks for advising me to the championship game for the second straight year!

r/fantasyfootball is getting me worried about Lamar Miller and AJ Green, but I’ll stick with em.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@endershadow: Glad to hear that, and good luck!

  4. Oranje says:
    (link)

Here are my current starters for the championship game in my ppr league: Newton, D. Williams, L. Murray, B. Marshall, D. Jackson, B. Watson, M. Forte, CAR def, and Santos. My bench includes the following to rotate in for the various positions: AJ Green, D. Robinson, K. Williams. Should I make any changes? Thanks.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Oranje: I think that’s pretty good. But I’d probably start Green over Jackson. It’s close though.

  5. John Rambo Jr says:
    (link)

Thanks for all the hard work this season.
This is my first yr in a dynasty league and I was wondering if it’s considered “bad form” to pick up IR players of waivers now and essentially stash them until next yr. Ex. KC RB J. Charles or GB WR J. Nelson.

    Thanks in advance,
    JRJ

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@John Rambo Jr: Not in my opinion. I think it should be the norm.

      • John Rambo Jr says:
        (link)

        @Jay:

Nice…Rank these IR players that are avail in my league for 2016:
        RB: M. Ingram , J. Charles, T. Rawls, C. Hyde
        WR: J.Nelson, K. Benjamin, K. Allen, K. White

        Thanks in advance,
        JRJ

        • For an Armenianless vacation come to Akron says:
          (link)

@John Rambo Jr: wow, you are in an odd league where even 1/4th of those are available. most owners must just give up once they are eliminated, and also don’t care about next year either. i bet a lot of owners quit each year (or should with that level of effort). stash as many of those as you can.

probably: charles/ingram/hyde/rawls (rawls would probably be higher if we knew for sure he’d be starting, which he likely is)
          jordy/allen/benjamin/white
in every dynasty i’m in (even ones where we started this year) jordy/benjamin/white were all drafted even when everybody knew they’d be out all year, one of them by me in every league.

          • For an Armenianless vacation come to Akron says:
            (link)

@For an Armenianless vacation come to Akron: and anybody that thinks it’s somehow “bad” to stash great injured players is the kind of twit that thinks check raising in poker is somehow “bad”. it’s simply an element of the game.

  6. don says:
    (link)

Earlier I asked the following question and you responded with Gurley, Hill, and Bernard. I was wondering what the reasoning was since I was thinking that was a pretty tough matchup.
Also, I picked up Mckinnon with news that AP may sit if the week 16 game becomes meaningless for MIN. Would you replace Hill with Mckinnon since Hill is playing monday if Mckinnon starts? Thanks

Need to pick 3 RBs standard scoring.

    T. Gurley
    J. Hill
    G.Bernard
    J. Allen
    C. Michael
    M. Gilleslee

    Which three would you play?
and also which three have the highest ceiling?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@don: I might, haven’t thought long on that one. Still leaning the original three, but it’s closer.

  7. Sam says:
    (link)

Been deliberating all week, and I think it’s at the point where I just need someone else to make the decision for me… So I’ll put all that weight on you, sir!

PPR league, championship game, who is my best option at RB2 (even though the rankings are right there, an answer straight from you would be way more convincing)?

    L. Murray (my current frontrunner), Woodhead or Charcandrick?

    Thanks!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Sam: Don’t make me nervous! I like Woodhead a lot here, especially in PPR, but there is a lot of risk of a no show as well. But if he goes off like last Sunday, you should be pretty good. Murray is so close, I get the conflict. Tough one, totally.

  8. DIRo says:
    (link)

I am having a hard time justifying starting Bortles over Brady, I know Brady does;t have the same offense as the last time he played the Jets, but Bortles seems to let me down overtime I play a good matchup with him.

What I really can’t decide is if I should bench Lacy, he could have one of those every other week game where he puts up good numbers. This guy is killing me and I can’t rely on David Johnson saving my ass for the next 2 weeks.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@DIRo: I think Brady is the safe pick, but I also think Bortles could go off on that defense. Tough to say, but going with Brady is a safe and legit way of doing it. This week, I’d rather start Johnson than Lacy. I’m a bit scared of Lacy right now.

      • DiRO says:
        (link)

        @Jay:
I am going to put Artis Payne as my RB 2, I see Lacy has some rib issue I think I may start Lockett or Gillislee over Lacy in the flex spot.

  9. jimmyz says:
    (link)

Jay – wouldn’t be here without you; in the finals, but I’m in the midst of a QB controversy with Brees as my starter (and Dalton was my backup).

So far I’ve picked up Cousins and Alex Smith as backups; Winston & Bridgewater are also available on the waiver wire.

With Brees as a 4 pm start on Sun, I’m nervous that a late scratch will do me in. Any thoughts on strategy – do I wait until Sun morning and play Smith (or Winston), or cut bait Sat. afternoon and put Cousins out there for his Sat. night game? Alternately, I could pick up Bridgewater, since he’s the Sun. night game.

    Thoughts?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@jimmyz: Congrats! I think you wait until Sunday morning and then go with Brees if you’re able to. Smith is an okay backup option here.

  10. Wilsonian says:
    (link)

Couple of questions for my championship:

    1) Who’s the flex: Forte, K. Williams, J. White, Watkins, Ginn?

0.5 PPR – 3 point bonus at 85 yards receiving/100 yards rushing- 6 point bonus at 135 yards receiving/150 yards rushing

    2) Who’s the Defense: Pitt (who I have and will be facing Claussen or Mallet), Houston, Buffalo, Miami

Thanks for the help this year. Got a bad matchup for the Final, but I’m hoping for a clean sweep after winning the regular season!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Wilsonian: Congrats for making it there! 1) I think Forte at the moment, but Williams is tempting. 2) Pitt has that sweet matchup, so I might just lean towards them.

      • Wilsonian says:
        (link)

@Jay: thanks! I got lucky with some injuries and good picks (thanks for A Rob in my draft). I’ve got Forte in right now, but Williams was tempting me too. Or White. But I feel like you can’t trust a NE RB. I also worry that Gillislee will screw with Williams’ touches.

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@Wilsonian: Yeah, both those were part of my thinking as well.

  11. Blake says:
    (link)

made it to the superbowl with help from you jay! thanks

    PPR league

    Carr or Cousins?

RB issue – Good issue though!

    D Freeman
    D Williams
    D Johnson
    L Miller
    D Woodhead

Now going by rankings I should do freeman and Johnson – I know Johnson had a career day but he hasn’t been better than willaims, right?

and Tye or Z Miller? will tye really get more targets? isn’t he more of a H-back?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Blake: Thanks and congrats! Yeah, those are some nice problems to have. I’d probably still go with Freeman and Johnson. Williams is close. And leaning Tye.

      • Blake says:
        (link)

        @Jay:

car or cousins? not sure if I can trust cousins though

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@Blake: Carr has always done well against the Chargers, so I’d likely go him.

  12. Blake says:
    (link)

also – In my other PPR league – I am going for 3rd place (in the money). I have the following lineup:

    QB: R Wilson
    WR: M Evans
    WR: A Cooper
    RB: C Ivory
    RB C Michael
    TE: G Olsen
    Flex: T Hightower
    B: A Gates
    B: S draughn
    B: J Matthews

I noticed u didn’t have draughn in your rankings- Is he out? also – would you put gates in ahead of Olsen? and what would do for flex in my lineup? gates, Matthews, ivory, etc?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Blake: I might have to recheck, I might have missed Draughn. Still going Olsen there and probably going Gates in the flex.

      • Blake says:
        (link)

        @Jay:

        so which RB”s to start?

Ivory and Hightower? or Michael and hightower?

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@Blake: I’d sneak Ivory in there over Michael.

  13. Joe says:
    (link)

PPR scoring, pick four to start this week between:

Baldwin, C.West, Amari Cooper, White, Ginn, Powell, Aiken, Shoelace, Hightower

    (Thank you and happy holidays!)

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Joe: West, Cooper, Aiken, and Hightower right now. And you too!

  14. John says:
    (link)

    .5 PPR

    Gates or Walker

    Aiken or Hurns

    and rank these in order

Denard R, Lamar, Ryan Mathews, Woodhead, Artis-Payne

    and is J stew droppable

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@John: I’d go Walker, Aiken, and your ranking is correct, except I think Woodhead goes at the beginning of the list. J Stew is droppable at this point in the season if you have a clear upgrade for that spot.

  15. Steven says:
    (link)

.5ppr league championship – I feel like I’m crazy for considering this, but Lamar Miller makes me nervous. We start 2 RBs, 1 TE, and a flex – these are my options
    RB – Miller, West, Hightower
    TE – Reed and Gates
I really want to start both reed and gates, but that would mean dropping one of the RBs to the bench…any guidance would be helpful! Which RB would you drop, I’m considering Miller after last week. Thanks!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Steven: I’m actually okay sitting Hightower here. Miller makes me nervous as well, but I think that might be your best setup in a PPR.

  16. don says:
    (link)

    Standard scoring 10 team league

Pick 1 QB: T. Taylor or D. Carr
    Pick 2WR: S. Watkins, M. Evans, D. Jackson
    Pick 2 RB: T. Gurley, E. Lacy, C. Michael, A. Blue, G. Bernard
    Pick 1 TE: A. Gates, J. Thomas

    Thanks Jay

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@don: Taylor, Watkins, Evans, Gurly, Lacy, and Gates. Any time!

  17. The Big Yabu says:
    (link)

Question about injured WRs — Alshon, Amendola, Edelman:
Would you trust any of those if they’re active?
Best fallback plan on waivers is Jermaine Kearse…

    • The Big Yabu says:
      (link)

@The Big Yabu: BTW, I do see that you have Alshon ranked pretty highly — I’m just wondering if you think his upside is worth the risk of him reinjuring himself or being used just as a decoy.
I’m guessing the other two aren’t ranked because you think they aren’t going to play?

      • Jay

        Jay says:
        (link)

@The Big Yabu: I think it is, and yeah, I’m not expecting the other two to play. Though, a lot can change and I’ll update my rankings early Saturday.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@The Big Yabu: I think I might trust Alshon and maybe Edelman.

  18. Steve Stevenson says:
    (link)

Standard scoring, 6pt pass TD, 5 pt bonus at 100 ru/re or 300 pa yds. With my opponent starting Cousins, would you be more inclined to start Reed at Flex over someone like Mike Floyd (right by Reed in your ranks) or Michael/Mathews (10-15 spots ahead, but risky), or less?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Steve Stevenson: Yeah, I kinda like the Reed strat there, mitigating some of those Cousin points.

  19. noah says:
    (link)

    Dez or a.j.?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

      @noah: Green.

  20. Jason Morgan says:
    (link)

    Is Eifert 100% out?

  21. Packers says:
    (link)

Thanks for your posts every week. Ivory or D. Parker in my flex? Ppr.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Packers: Thanks for reading them! Ivory, but it’s close.

  22. Joey Jo Jo Jr Shabadoo says:
    (link)

what’s your thoughts on whether or not hillman is a starter next year, i stashed him and r.matthews (i have both r.matthews now, no matter how many T’s) over inman/agholor. i read somewhere on rotoworld about his being ranked very highly for WR’s under some likely proprietary metric.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Joey Jo Jo Jr Shabadoo: I’d guess not as is Denver tradition, but I’m not sure what else is out there right now. I’d think he’d still be in the picture.

      • Joey Jo Jo Jr Shabadoo says:
        (link)

@Jay: shit maybe they have forte or skittles next year as starter.

  23. For an Armenianless vacation come to Akron says:
    (link)

HTF does gates have 2 TARGETS into overtime!? in one league (that matters for real) i have inman/gates vs crabtree and in another gates vs rivers, but either way gates is getting F’ed.

  24. tony says:
    (link)

going with gurley, hightower, karlos, james white, a-brown, martavis and desean this weekon my ppr league. christine michael, artis payne and dez on the bench. your thoughts?

    thanks for your weekly posts.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@tony: I think that’s your best set up right now. Good luck!

  25. Steve Stevenson says:
    (link)

If AP ends up sitting, where would McKinnon be in your ranks?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Steve Stevenson: Yeah, he’ll be there regardless, the rankings should be updated in a few hours, I’ll tweet it out.

  26. Tom Emanski says:
    (link)

RBs I’ve lost to injuries this year, mostly in the 2nd half: Ingram (after trading Lynch for him), Rawls, Forte, Charcandrick, Yeldon, Blount, and Hyde. So I’m left to pick from two of the committee’d Forte and West, Karlos, or Hightower. I’ve got Forte and West right now but I need a second opinion for my championship game!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Tom Emanski: Hmm, Yeah, I think Forte and West are your guys. Williams is close though.

  27. Side dish says:
    (link)

    1/2 point ppr.

Pick 2 – lacy, c. Michael, and gore
    Evans or Maclin?
    New England or buffalo?

    Thanks !

    • Jay

      Jay says:

@Side dish: Gore and Lacy, Evans, and Patriots. Good luck!

  28. Adult coloring book says:
    (link)

    1/2 point ppr league

Wr – pick 2 – Cobb, hurns, Aj green, Kearse
Rbs – pick 4 – ap, d. Williams, David Johnson, Hightower, k. Williams, Buck Allen, d. Robinson ?

    Thanks for the advice

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Adult coloring book: Cobb and Green, and Williams, Johnson, Williams, and Hightower.

  29. Fizz says:
    (link)

Defense. Houston or Denver? Its a tough call.

    • Tom Emanski says:
      (link)

@Fizz: I chose Pitt over Denver

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

      @Fizz: Probably Denver, but it’s close with Houston’s match-up.

  30. Blake says:
    (link)

with Jeffery out – will Miller be the go to guy? I am deciding between Miller and Tye in my PPR league

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Blake: I think so, at least one of them. I have Miller over Tye there.

  31. Stan Gable says:
    (link)

Currently playing Karlos Williams/Gore for RB2 and flex in Non-PPR. My other choices were james white (don’t trust belichek ever), C Michael (not sure in splits), and CAP. Gore hasn’t been good recently. What type of floor to expect from Gore? Debating if I should switch to CAP.

Liked ranks and will grab Boswell since need a kicker. Hopefully Pittsburgh stopped all of that going for 2point conversion nonsense. Thanks.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Stan Gable: I like your two. I know Gore has been iffy, but I like his chances this week based on you have there.

  32. Fizz says:
    (link)

Standard. R. Mathews or j. Ajayi? Im hearing ajayi is supposed to get more carries than miller.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Fizz: I think I have Mathews, but Ajayi is certainly on the radar, but I think Mathews can do more against Washington tonight.

  33. Montezuma's Revenge... right now says:
    (link)

with matt jones out and brees either likely to suck or not even play, play morris over hightower? rushing yards worth more than catch in this one.

    • Montezuma's Revenge... right now says:
      (link)

@Montezuma’s Revenge… right now: it’s a PPR though, so morris takes a hit there no matter how many more rush yards he gets. 5 yards per pt rushing 15 per pt catching, with 1 pt PPR. it’s always the best idea to play a RB at flex. we only start 2 WR, 1 RB 1 Flex 20 team dynasty and i have all of sims/AP/morris/hightower.

      • Montezuma's Revenge... right now says:
        (link)

@Jay: and for some asinine reason blount was dropped (we have 5 IR’s, they weren’t filled on that team), and even weirder my 18th waiver got him, so for next year if he starts somewhere i’ll have him too.

        • Montezuma's Revenge... right now says:
          (link)

@Montezuma’s Revenge… right now: i see you just moved up morris. and yahoo has him up to projected 24.11 vs hightower’s 24.03

          • Montezuma's Revenge... right now says:
            (link)

@Montezuma’s Revenge… right now: i went with morris, just since
            A. WAS needs this game, NO doesn’t
            B. morris is playing for a contract, and is younger than hightower
            C. Brees’ status (biggest reason), if he can’t do anything right or doesn’t play whole offense will fall apart

only thing going in Hightower’s side is Cousins has been shit on the road. Both play awful run D’s.

            • Montezuma's Revenge... right now says:
              (link)

@Montezuma’s Revenge… right now: so i went with safe floor, as i’m a 45ish pt favorite by yahoo projections anyway (we play full IDP’s 11 players, so our scores are very high, i set 2nd highest score of the season by anybody last week with about 370)

@Montezuma’s Revenge… right now: i’m in bad shape in one spot where my gates is playing reed though. i was best team all year in that one. not worried about my decisions there though gates at TE, not flex.

@Jay: more carries would be huge, but i’m now a really really big favorite, so hopefully it doesn’t matter. more worried in another league where i have both hightower and snead, if no brees (and he plays late so this is bad situation already) or shitty brees i could bench one, in fact rankings say play all of these
              WR – a.brown, evans, hurns
              RB – j.allen, white
              flex snead
BN hightower. if brees doesn’t play i could always put c.michael in over snead, also have DGB, parker, artis on BN.

    Jay,
I have both Cam Newton and Big Ben. My opponent is playing both A. Brown and M. Bryant. who should i start?
I think Cam has a higher scoring potential, but just due to the added rushing yards. I also think if the panthers are up in the 4th, he will get pulled.
I think playing Ben helps hedge the points his receivers can get, since they are both highly ranked this week.
    What to do?

@chrisjen17: I’d probably go Cam still, but Big Ben I think represents a safer play based on what you laid out.

jesus, gates/rivers screwed me bad in another redraft 20 team PPR. i had option to play gates at flex (barnidge at TE), i always play gates there, it’s really an easy play; but with those 2 total targets i now can only play one of j.white, artis, k.martin, and since dola/edelman out, with lafell being in bad shape too, i could’ve played both martin/white had i had any clue about gates getting 3.1 pts.

Why the bump with Deangelo? I have Devonta freeman, David Johnson and D’Angelo Williams in my PPR league – No flex so I have to start 2

U had him at 5 earlier, right?
