Week 1 Results: 61.8% (22nd out of 134 Experts, 66.1% Highest, 48.2% Lowest).

It’s now time for Week 2 Rankings folks! Why? Because the world needs rankings. Nay, the world demands it. To be really honest, what’s the point of writing about fantasy football if not to start arguments over subjective numerical values? If you answered “there is no point!” (exclamation point inflection required), well then, you win this cookie. This cookie right here. Oh, you don’t see the cookie? That’s probably because I just ate it. So you get no cookie. Just the teasing of said cookie.

Great, now I’m hungry for more cookies. Thanks!

As an aside, I’ve heard some requests for a ‘Rest of Season’ rankings made available for the masses. Well, I haven’t heard them per say… I’ve read the requests, seeing as how you people don’t whisper in my ear. I mean, maybe you do, but I’m just trying to ignore you because that’s creepy, dude. Regardless, I will be releasing ROS projections at every quarter mark of the season, or basically every month, or every four weeks… basically every 30 or so days. Or 730 hours. 43829 minutes. 2.63e+6 seconds… woah, what the heck is that I just wrote? That looks like some kind of alien language. But, you get my point. So, yeah, be excited for that!

Note: These rankings are for this week’s slate of games only. These rankings are not cumulative, nor are they an indicator of any future value. They are based solely on this week’s performance in regards to fantasy football production.

Rivers really that low this week? I guess a Seattle matchup is tuff. Should I be starting cam this week in his place?
With that being said, should I be trading for a better QB? I went with rivers fa the consistency and cam fa the hope he returns to supaman.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Todd: I would start Cam there, yeah. You’re okay there. It was going to be a touch two-game opening.

  2. SMLV1 says:
    (link)

Why so low on Torrey Smith? He always torches PIT.

Gonna be tough to decide between Cruz, Wright and Wayne as my WR3 this week. But I’m kinda leaning towards Wright as ur ranking suggests.

    • E says:
      (link)

@SMLV1: he has 18 catches and 2 TDs in 6 career games vs pit. Really lights em up.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@SMLV1: I’m always low on Torrey Smith. That way, I’m only wrong three times a year.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@SMLV1: Just want to add that I like all three of those names.

  3. SMLV1 says:
    (link)

Its also really tough for me to start Stacy over Moreno. Should I give Stacy another week to show what hes got?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@SMLV1: I would. Let’s see what happens. (I could be stubborn about this too.)

  4. Joe says:
    (link)

Jay i would start Antonio Brown and Julián edelman but in the other two spots Iam not sure i have marques colston, markus wheaton, danny amandola, terrence west…..which two should o start for this week?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Joe: I like Colston and Williams this week out of that group.

  5. goodfold2 says:
    (link)

in dynasty Taliaferro or McCluster? 20 teamer with huge benches, half PPR with .5 pts per attempted run also. if yes i can stash Sims while i’m doing so. 5 IR slots.

    • goodfold2 says:
      (link)

@goodfold2: Same league, Donnell or ASJ? i also own Reed. If ASJ has better future value i’m sticking and i don’t care if neither him nor Reed play this week. i’m thinking ASJ by a lot here, simply due to i never even heard of Donnell till like 3 days ago.

      • Jay

        Jay says:
        (link)

@goodfold2: Yeah, I like ASJ long term. Could be special.

  6. Nimrod says:
    (link)

Really great read, thanks. Who to start in a 1pt PPR league, T. Williams or R. Matthews in my flex position?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

      @Nimrod: Mathews.

    • Pope says:
      (link)

@Nimrod: Did you check the flex rankings? Mathews is ranked 50 while West is ranked 86…

      • Nimrod says:
        (link)

@Pope: Terrance Williams is a WR for Dallas while Mattews is a RB for SD. It’s a close call. Thanks tho.

        • Pope says:
          (link)

@Nimrod: Oh my bad, read it wrong

  7. Steve says:
    (link)

Would u drop Ingram for Hyde or Crowell ???

    • Xavier says:
      (link)

@Steve: In PPR? Personally, no. Standard, probably.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

      @Steve: For Hyde.

  8. Hmm, I know you have a homer boner for Ryan Mathews, but that high in the ranks for PPR at home against SEA? I have Terrence West in a 10 team and was thinking he’d match up better mostly because he isn’t playing SEA though TDs will likely suffer, but what are your thoughts on that change in ranks?

Are you thinking West hits the “true” Nawlins defense and stalls while Mathews grabs a few ohmaigerd SEA defense dump passes from Rivers me Timbers, on top of other people not seeing what you see in him? (Which, after a 14 point week 1 against the Cards, makes it look like you’re right).

Really at this point I see them as a toss up with Mathews being more likely to break total points, but West having the upside of a chance at some TDs if he can break loose.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@West and Welaxation: To be completely honest, this is the first year I’m using FantasyPro’s UI, and I sometimes question their sync function. They basically take my standard rankings, do some futuristic things, and then pump out a PPR rankings based off that. I’d rather not rank 700 players when already ranking 350, but I’m keeping an eye on it. While I probably would have put Mathews in the 20ish range on PPR, the way it’s set up, I’m sorta okay.

I like West this week, but I’m viewing Mathews as a RB2 this week. Chargers have a way of gritting out wins against big defensive teams, and it starts with the ground game.

      • @Jay: Ah that’s crazy, I wonder who the wizard is behind the curtain of FantasyPros…

And I like your logic on Mathews, and is definitely a thought of mine for that game for them to grind it and bleed the clock when they can against the Saints and keep the offense off the field. Plus with his workload in week 1, it does point to good signs.

Problem for me is I have Vereen as my RB1 along with Mathews, and my pick up of West throws a monkey wrench into the Mathews/West idea since they’re almost a push. I probably shouldn’t worry since the universe will just make sure the player I don’t put in does better. And Flex consideration for either is out with Michael Floyd/Reggie Wayne vying for game time (I may trade one of them with a RB to upgrade, or sit on them and watch as I laugh playing the matchup game for super points).

Thanks for he insight, here’s hoping!

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@West and Welaxation: Totally. And if it’s any consolation, the accuracy reports just came out, and I beat Matthew Berry… so there’s that.

          • Cram It says:
            (link)

@Jay: Ooooh accuracy reports? How can I google/see those? Or are they only handed out internally from the fantasy website overlords?

            • Jay

              Jay says:
              (link)

@Cram It: I actually just linked to it at the top of the post, full disclosure and all. I think it means that I can be effective, even when spewing everything Chargers… for at least last week that is.

              • Cram It says:
                (link)

                @Jay: That’s pretty goddamn neat

  9. Jason Morgan says:
    (link)

How much of a $100 FAAB would you bid on Gordon in a 12-team PPR league?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Jason Morgan: At least 30% or more. The payoff could be season-altering.

      • Jason Morgan says:
        (link)

@Jay: Well here’s my line of thinking. If he was reinstated and was going to play this season before placing my bid, I would bid all $100. You are never going to get a player of his caliber off the wire. But now it comes down to taking a risk as to whether he will actually play this season.

Yesterday Forsett went for $28. That tells me that $30, and probably even $50, is not going to cut the mustard. I am tempted to bid it all, but will feel like a fool if he does not play…

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@Jason Morgan: If that’s the context, then yeah, you’ll probably have to. If you don’t, looks like someone else will. Though, what happens if injuries occur and there’s no depth? It’s a pickle.

  10. Xavier says:
    (link)

Got really lucky and landed Gordon off the waiver wire. Don’t particularly want him, what range of player would you target in a trade? Gordon is definitely a top-10 WR when he’s back, so I assume a first/second round+

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Xavier: Yeah, but you’d probably have to wait for definitive news either way, unless someone offers you the moon. Start gauging interest though.

  11. KK says:
    (link)

Was just about to start locker over Brady in my dual QB league, but then saw this… What do you think?

    • KK says:
      (link)

@KK: same thing for Floyd and Kendall wright… Have Floyd in ppr over wright currently

      • Jay

        Jay says:
        (link)

@KK: I like Floyd, but I think Wright is the better option this week.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@KK: I’m going to try Brady in the top-10 again. I’m of the mindset that week 1 can be weird to a lot of teams.

  12. Clint says:
    (link)

Some fool in my 12 teamer 1.5pt ppr dropped Garcon. Whom would you drop him for from my team?

    QB: Cam, Romo, RG3
    RB: Le’Veon, Foster, Gio, Vereen
WR: Megatron, Cobb, Crabtree, Wright, Torrey

Also, if I’m reading your rankings correctly, you’d advocate starting Foster in my flex spot over Gio (assuming I get Garcon) and Cam over RG3 in my QB Flex spot? You don’t see a rebound coming for RG3 against the Jags?

    • Barker says:
      (link)

@Clint: thats tough crabtree or rgiii
No one else to drop ?

      • Clint says:
        (link)

        @Barker:

Nope. I specifically made the benches light so things could get interesting this year. Other starters are 3 IDP’s and 1 Def/ST of which I am not using any bench spots for right now (grabbed Le’Veon thanks to Jay after dropping the one IDP sub I had). I’ll go with Smith then.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Clint: On RG3, I want to see a good game from him first before I start projecting one. I would drop Smith for Garcon in a heartbeat.

  13. Hometown Hero says:
    (link)

I’m in a 2 QB 12 team league where all TDs count as 6 points. I have Romo, Locker and McNown as my qbs. I got an offer that would give me Kaepernick or R Wilson for Stacy and Mcnown. I have Lacy, Vareen, Freeman and Cunningham at RB.

I know I would be thin at RB but I don’t trust Romos back or Mcnown keeping the job or anything to do with the Rams. Do I pull the trigger?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Hometown Hero: I would hold. I think this deal really hurts your team depth, and you have enough there to compete at QB.

      • Hometown Hero says:
        (link)

@Jay: I also have an offer where I would get Moreno for M Wallace. I have Demaryius, Wright, Patterson and J Gordon already. Would your opinion change if I also got Moreno? Thanks again Jay!

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@Hometown Hero: Not if its part of a deal for a QB. Straight up, I think it’s a fair trade.

          • Hometown Hero says:
            (link)

@Jay: Yes the Moreno deal is with another team owner. If I did both deals my team would be Romo, Kaep/Wilson and Locker RB’s Lacy, Vareen, Moreno, Freeman WRs Demaryius, Wright, Patterson

  14. Barker says:
    (link)

    10 team 1/2 ppr qb qb /flex

I give rgiii and garcon for demaryius thomas

My other qbs newton palmer tannehill
Other wr a brown cobb gordon terrance williams

Kid only has one qb ryan and is stacked at wr if he rejects which he probably will — would offering cobb rgiii for demaryius be too much to give?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Barker: Well, you’re dealing from a spot that you don’t need, so it’s fair on both deals. I’d give it a go and see what happens. Remember though, you are trying to sell low on RGIII.

      • Barker says:
        (link)

@Jay: he came back with murray and garcon for d thomas i rejected and offered cobb/rgiii

He wants/needs rbs so i was going to offer rashad jennings and garcon or cobb for demaryius and pierre thomas if he doesnt take cobb/rgiii

My other rbs murray lacy f jax

Is pierre thomas enough for my rb3 slot in a 1/2 ppr

  15. Allan says:
    (link)

Why Rudolph over Ertz? Colts showed week 1 a vulnerability to tight end. Ertz isn’t Julius Thomas but he’s good. Also got Bailey as my kicker but Bryant is available and I’m worried about the Cowboys ability to get Bailey opportunities. They certainly didn’t in week 1.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Allan: I like Bailey this week. And I think going against Peyton Manning and JT is a bit different than Foles/Ertz.

  16. E says:
    (link)

    Yo! Pick 3, ppr league

    Ryan Mathews
    Toby gerhart
    Joique bell
    Knowshon Moreno
    Chris ivory
    Marquis Colston

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

      @E: Mathews, Moreno, Colston

  17. Hats4Bats says:
    (link)

    H. Miller’s ranking seems a bit high, Jay. You really like him more than T. Smith and Crabtree in PPR?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Hats4Bats: For this week, it looks like it. I don’t think the Ravens are a good team.

  18. sam says:
    (link)

in a 2-QB (flex) league, i have Rodgers, Foles, & Kaep. I was offered Josh Gordon for Kaep. What do I do?

    • goodfold2 says:
      (link)

@sam: that’s some damn good QB for a 2 QB league. unless it’s like a 10 or less teamer (even then pretty good)

      • sam says:
        (link)

        only 10 teams.

        • sam says:
          (link)

@sam: henne and hoyer are available on waivers

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@sam: I’d do it without batting a sweat. You have plenty of QB depth there.

  19. CL says:
    (link)

Clearly, you’d think I’m nuts to start Quick over Cruz, clearly.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@CL: Just as long as you’re cashews.

  20. Brian says:
    (link)

Traded Kyle Rudulph for Reggie Wayne still have Gronk was this a good move ? Thanks

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Brian: Yes, I like that move.

  21. Jeremy says:
    (link)

Brian quick or Pierre Thomas at the flex? Probably Thomas right? Also what do you think of trading colston for Tate? Spiller is my rb2 right now and I don’t feel great about it

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Jeremy: Yeah, goin Thomas there. I don’t like Tate. Target another RB.

  22. Cram It says:
    (link)

Man, I thought Locker had a pretty cherry matchup. Crap on a cracker.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Cram It: I re-watched some of the Dallas game, and their defense actually held up well considering. I will say that I like Locker this week, but I feel strong about the other QB’s ahead of him.

I’m very open to him proving me wrong.

      • Cram It says:
        (link)

@Jay: Right on. Good stuff evaluating that aspect of the game. I can get behind that stance. Thanks. I’d like to see Locker become fantasy relevant week to week. But I’ll go with a banged up Cam until I see more.

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@Cram It: Trust, I want to be ahead of the game on Locker too. I ranked him in the pre-season above my peers, and I think there’s something there. I just want to see it with some guys first too.

  23. TJ says:
    (link)

Bernard Pierce is on waivers in my PPR league. I am sort of thin at RB, and potentially stacked at WR.
We start 2 WR, 2 RB, and 2 flex spots.

My WRs are Dez Bryant, Brandon Marshall, Vincent Jackson, Torrey Smith and Josh Gordon (hopefully).
My RBs are Leveon Bell, Reggie Bush, Danny Woodhead, Chris Johnson and Jeremy Hill.

Do I drop Torrey or Jeremy Hill or Woodhead for Pierce?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@TJ: No, I think Pierce is trash.

      • TJ says:
        (link)

@Jay: Even with the reports from the Ravens writers this week that they don’t think Forsett can handle the full load, and Pierce will probably lead the team in carries this season?

        • Cram It says:
          (link)

@TJ: I live in Baltimore. Pierce is garbage. Flacco’s throwing the ball 50 times a game so the bulk of the carries might mean 10 a game.

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@TJ: He’s just a guy where I don’t mind him showing me something first. If I miss on him, I’m very comfortable with that.

  24. Charles says:
    (link)

Morning Jay and thanks for the rankings. 14 Team non-ppr 6 pts per all TD. 1 pt per 50 pass yards, 1 pt per 20 rush/rec yards. Fractional points count. Should I start F. Jax or Ingram in my flex? I already have AP and J. Bell in my lineup.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Charles: Jackson, but it’s a flip of the coin.
