Obviously, we’re not doing as well as we were last season around the same time period. The real question is, why am I using the royal “we”? On both counts, you can color me confused. Because I’m a book. It’s a coloring book joke people. Anyhow, to the point… I want to state that, personally, these first two weeks of accuracy results have me befuddled. Befuddled I tell ya! And I say this as a ranker who, unlike last year, has not ranked Ryan Mathews anywhere near the top-5… so I have that going for me. I realize that the entire process can sometimes be, well, to put it bluntly, a mystery. It’s true that this year I’ve taken certain liberties, some would call it “risks”, in terms of rankings. Last season, we finished in the top-25 percentile among all of our peers, and we were probably one of the most consistent week-to-week rankers out there. But consistency doesn’t necessarily get you to the top. And what can I say? I wanted a chance to hit those high notes. Terrible music metaphors aside, after implementing a process that I thought to be more beneficial to the readers (and the site itself), I’ll now be dialing back my strategy a bit. Don’t get me wrong, two weeks is a small sample size, but as I said earlier, you are coming here for the jokes AND a little bit of help. All of us in this business of Fantasy Football advice are here to help, and we feel sh*tty when we’re aren’t helping. And if we don’t feel sh*tty, it’s time to get out of the business all together. I don’t pretend to be a savant at this stuff, but I work hard on this craft because this community deserves it. Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life. You guys made that happen…

This week’s rankings, I’ll be returning to the process I used last year, which I can essentially describe with this phrase: better to be safe than sorry. You’ll notice there will be less “gut” calls, floor guys will be ranked higher, and riskier match-ups will be frowned upon. And let’s see how our accuracy responds this time next week. At the very least, I want to be as open as I can, which is why I always share my results at the forefront and consider myself accountable when my own results don’t match my expectations. So I’m basically my own mother, I guess. All things considered though, I’d rather be with your mother…

Thoughts on what to do with Lacy….1/2 point PPR league. We receive a small fine if we don’t start an active player. If a guy’s game time decision, we are not charged.

I need to start 2 RBs out of Gore, Lacy, Matt Jones and J. Bell

With Jones playing tonight, should I use one of my slots for him or gamble on Lacy playing on Monday?

@Blurry Face: I’m leaning that he plays, but it’s anyone’s guess how effective he is. I always lean towards the studs strat though…

    Great job Jay!

    12 team PPR league…
Tyrod Taylor or Nick Foles for my bench QB? Is it worth having a QB in your bench?
    thanks

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@RicoSuave: Taylor, it’s a luxury, and could hamstring you when the byes start hitting.

  6. Brian Blacklow says:
    (link)

This seems obvious based on your rankings, but Jonathan Stewart was waived. I should drop Gio Bernard for him, right (1.0 PPR league)?

Also, I already have Forsett, CJ Anderson, and Frank Gore. With my Dez Bryant injured , and my Jordy Nelson long dropped, which one of the three would you trade for WR help? Any specific targets in mind?

Thanks an advance for any help.

    -Brian

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Brian Blacklow: you’d be selling low on all of them. Maybe dangle Anderson. But yeah, JStew needs to be added. Float Gio first maybe.

  7. shookonespart2 says:
    (link)

worried about justin forsett (no goaline carries) and dez bryant (gut feeling he might not come back at all)

with that said. trying to package these two in a deal for some immediate value, even if dez does come back week 8-10 no good if im not in the playoffs.

trade 1) dez bryant/justin forsett for adrian peterson
trade 2) dez bryant/forsett for eddie lacy/james starks/ nelson agolor
trade 3) dez bryant/ forsett/ martavis bryant for aj green/ shady/ isiahh crowell
trade 4) dez bryant/ forsett/ james jones for jamall charles/ keenan allen/ gio bernard

sorry thats a lot. i really cant gauge dez trade value but i assume every week that goes by it goes up. doubt guys in my league want the risk but all the teams above are undefeated so they have good shots at the playoffs

  8. Bobby says:
    (link)

Trying to decide between Keenan Allen and Matt Jones at flex…tough call (especially with Allen going against a stout Vikings pass D). And Razzball has them pretty much ranked identically! Thoughts anyone??

    • Chicken Dinner says:
      (link)

      @Bobby: Allen

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Bobby: I think Allen is a good call here.

  9. Allan says:
    (link)

    Jay,
I got a running back dilemma. My rb’s are Lacy, Ingram, Joique Bell, Arian Foster, and Matt Jones. Obviously not playing Bell if I can help it. With Lacy questionable and a Monday night game and Jones in a Thursday night game not sure what to do. I was thinking of starting Jones tonight and playing Ingram in my other rb slot and leaving my flex open for Foster or Lacy if one plays. If neither plays I’ve got Davante Adams who I can slide into my flex last minute. Thoughts?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

      @Allan: it’s a good strat.

  10. shookonespart2 says:

one more from above. love your guys’ work day in day out. dont log into espn for anything except sunday to watch the stats.. good stuff razzballl and i think football has really picked up.

forsett, dez, james jones for joe randle/ ty hilton

    thanks.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@shookonespart2: Forsett side, but it’s close. And thanks!

  11. Connor says:
    (link)

As a Jordan Matthews owner I am very nervous about the matchup this week. Was wondering your thoughts. Thanks man!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Connor: Bradford actually played better last week than the stats indicate, and I’m still not convinced Washington’s defense is any good.

  12. Chicken Dinner says:
    (link)

    Whadup, Jay?!

    Luck/Cruz for Dalton/Woodhead/Watkins ( PPR )

If accepted, Spiller or Vereen would be RB2. Cruz WR3 behind Julio and A Cooper

QBs score a TON in this league. 0.5 p/comp 6p/TD no penalty for TOs

I also have Bradford. Still think the Eagles turn it around but I’m an impatient SOB in regards to my fantasy teams.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Chicken Dinner: Eh, I’d hold. That doesn’t excite me. Wait until Luck builds some value.

  13. Kendrick Llama says:
    (link)

Reasoning for Freeman being higher than gore/hill/jones? 2.0 YPC so far on the season and hasn’t looked great unless catching passes.

    • Kendrick Llama says:
      (link)

@Kendrick Llama: I’m stuck between picking two of these four guys and I really have no idea who to go with. I feel like hill and gore are “safest” plays

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Kendrick Llama: I’m not big on Freeman as well, but Dallas is missing a lot of componants (Gregory) mostly, and I’m liking the match-up a bit more than Gore. Hill has a bit of a knee issue, and Jones is still in a time share.

  14. dom says:
    (link)

Did you make these rankings with the knowledge that D Hopkins has a concussion? I guess all I can do is wait for more news on that.

Concerned at all that Jonathan Stewart missed Weds practice with “knee issue”?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@dom: I’m waiting on both at the moment, so keep a look out on any news, and I’ll be editing those rankings when I learn more.

  15. Wilsonian says:

    2 QB League

    1) Currently have Ryan, Tyrod, Dalton, and have Romo on IR.

I need a defensive player for this week. Do I drop Dalton or Tyrod or do I drop someone like Rashad Jennings or Travis Benjamin?

    2) Jordan Reed is available. I have Olsen but he’s looked like bottled up hot garbage. I don’t want to drop Olsen, but do I drop Jennings or Benjamin to roll with Reed for the foreseeable future until the Panthers look like have an offense?

    3) ‘Zona or New England this week? Or is it a coin flip?

    4) Playing Julio, A-Rob and Garcon as WR1-3. Benching Evans and Cooks and playing Woodhead in the Flex. Make sense? Only other options in the Flex would be M.Jones, Yeldon, Jennings, T.Benjamin.

    0.5 PPR – 3 point bonus at 85 yards receiving/100 yards rushing/250 yards passing – 6 point bonus at 135 yards receiving/150 yards rushing/335 yards passing

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Wilsonian: Tyrod, Olsen, Zona, it does, but Evans might do something.

      • Wilsonian says:
        (link)

@Jay: thanks! You have Tyrod higher in your rankings, but you’d still rather have Dalton? And I’m just not sure what to do with Evans. I could toss him in as my WR3 and put Garcon at Flex or leave Woodhead in at Flex. Evans is apparently completely healthy, but I can’t have another goose egg.

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@Wilsonian: named him there to keep instead drop accidently. I think Woodhead at flex is for sure. I don’t mind rolling out Garcon here.

          • Wilsonian says:
            (link)

@Jay: thanks again, man. I’ll roll with Tyrod, Olsen, Garcon as my WR3, and Woody at the Flex.

Gotta have a better week than last week with Cooks and Evans not doing a damn thing and A-Rob BLOWING up on the bench.

            • Jay

              Jay says:
              (link)

@Wilsonian: Yeah, I hear ya. The Evans thing is really frustrating.

  16. Steve Stevenson says:

Return yardage league (1pt/25yds, plus credit for TDs), non-PPR–Lockett, Ginn or Austin?

  17. Lopes says:
    (link)

in a 12 team half PPR. What are your thoughts on Demarco Murray ROS? theres speculation he’s going to have a rough week and it’ll be a great buy low opportunity. I have Julio Jones and Andre Johnson as my wideouts but have been using Allen Robinson as my WR2 and Johnson has my flex recently (meaning last week haha). My RBs are Forte and ellington, with abdullah filling in right now. Is it worth going after murray? I was thinking dangling johnson and maybe another bench guy…your thoughts?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Lopes: yeah, I would buy low.

  18. Dave says:
    (link)

Have a tough situation I’m 0-2 and most of my team is banged up. I’m thinking of starting Lacy, Hyde, and Dion Lewis in the flex. (This is all PPR)

Then at WR I have Calvin, Amari Cooper, and might bench Cooks for Garcon. I’m just scared of starting Cooks with Brees banged up and their terrible start to the year, bad idea? If not, I can also bench Lacy for Garcon if he plays and is really banged up. Basically what should I do about Cooks and Lacy lol

    Thanks!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Dave: Garcon for Cooks is fine. I understand the hesitation there

  19. Joe says:
    (link)

Another team has poor WR depth, but has some RB’s I’d be interested in, such as Ingram, Ivory, Hyde, and Gurley. Which one should I target and what WR should I offer either straight up, or 2-for-1 (ex. Lewis + ______)

    10-team PPR league.
    MY TEAM
    QB – Big Ben
RB – Anderson, Ellington, Abdullah, Lewis, Spiller
WR – Julio, Landry, Matthewson, Robinson, Steve Johnson, Fitzgerald
    TE – Gronk
    DST – DEN

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Joe: maybe Arob and Dion for Hyde.

  20. jojo says:

    Roddy White on the wire.

    Should I pick him up?
I have C Michael, Green Beckham, and M Wheaton on bench.

    thanks!!

      Jay says:
      (link)

@jojo: yeah, him over Michael is fine.

  21. Adam says:

    Standard league
    Thx

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

      @Adam: cooks.

  22. fallex says:
    (link)

Would you roll with Matt Jones tonight, or hold out hope that Lamar Miller will play and not be limited / suck? My only other option would be CJ Spiller (ugh).

    Thanks!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@fallex: Based on that, I’m probably going Jones and then filling Miller in for Spiller if he starts on Sunday. He didn’t practice today, for what it’s worth.

      • fallex says:
        (link)

Thanks, @Jay. I guess I wasn’t clear, if I start Jones tonight, then that’s it. JC is in my other RB slot. I see that Miller did practice today, so I’ll probably go with him. So, count on Jones blowing up tonight.

        thanks!

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@fallex: ah, gotcha. Yeah, Jones then.

  23. Bean says:
    (link)

    Howdy Jay!

    .5 PPR

Would you look to trade James Starks to Lacy owner, as a buy low on one of these. Starks clearly means more to the Lacy owner.

    Lacy owners team:

    QB: Big Ben

    RB1: Lacy
    RB2: Mark Ingram

    WR1: Larry Fitzgerald
    WR2: Kendall wright
    WR3: Malcolm Floyd

    TE: kelce

    Flex: witten

    D & kicker I won’t mention

Bench; alshon Jeffery, denard Robinson, desean Jackson, Davonte Parker, Charles sims, Davonte Freeman, cam newton, & joique bell

    My team:
    QB’s: Palmer & tannehill

RB’s hill, Lamar miller, Doug Martin, gore, Matt jones, Starks

WR’s: demaryius Thomas, brandin cooks, Andre Johnson, john brown, Doug Baldwin, Terrence Williams & anquan boldin

TE: richard Rodgers & stashing gates

    • Bean says:
      (link)

      @Bean:

Or just hang onto Starks for my own depth: I do play Lacy owner next week

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Bean: I dangle him out there for Jones and see what happens.

      • Bean says:
        (link)

        @Jay:

        I also have Matt jones

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@Bean: Ah, I read that line as if it was his team. Maybe try to net DeSean. Like a Starks and Boldin deal.

    Which side do you take?

My other Wrs: D. Thomas, Beckham, A. Jeffery, S. Johnson

Nightmare of a week…DeMarco might not go. L Green has a concussion (was going to start him over M Bennett but that plans shot)…& I have the STL defense cause I lost on waiver priority for Az @ $1!

Sub in Roddy, Tre, Sankey, Charles Johnson or Wheaton for DeMarco if he is out? I can move J Randle from flex over to RB2 behind Peterson & swap in any WR/RB/TE…

    • Nick says:
      (link)

@Nick: Oh & I have Garcon/Amari/Ty as my starting WRs, not that it matters regarding the question above

    • Jay

@Nick: I’d say Sankey right now.

  27. Mark says:

      @Mark: Jones, but it’s close.

  28. OldMilwaukeePounders says:
    (link)

    Jay,

Would you move Abdullah and Terrence Williams for Cobb in a PPR league? My other RBs are: CJ, L. Murray, David Johnson, and lottery ticket Christine Michael.

Pulling the trigger would give me Demaryius, Evans, Cobb at WR… the guy has also state that he may want Murray in that deal over Abdullah, but I am leaning toward keeping Murray.

    Thoughts?

      • OldMilwaukeePounders says:
        (link)

@Jay: Needless to say, CJ and Evans really have put my team in a bit of a hole to start the year. I see you’ve got CJ ranked pretty high again this week. At what point should we be concerned officially?

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@OldMilwaukeePounders: After this game. I’m so iffy on the ankle and knee right now, but that offensive line has four new guys… sometimes it takes a bit to gel. I think one more game before we hit the panic button is fair.

    WR: Fitzgerald
    TE: Ebron
    WR/TE: Cooks
    WR/RB/TE: Woodhead
BN: T Williams, A Johnson, Moncrief, Ivory

Was offered Mariota for T Williams.

You told me to hold tight with Bradford this week instead of dropping him for Foles, but what about this trade? Should I try to trade Johnson away instead?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@IV: I’d still hold. Give this project one more week. I think Bradford has been playing a bit better than what the stats say.

  30. James says:

    Hey jay,

Ppr league. 3 questions, please help!

    1. I need 3 starters out if these 4 players. Abdullah, garçon, Sankey, m.jones.
    My thoughts,
Abdullah: splits time, vs tough Denver defense
Garcon: usually solid as my flex but Thursday night game isn’t always offensively packed
Sankey: who knows?! Great matchup vs Indy but could be down early and mccluster getting work in catch up mode
M,jones: split time, Thursday night matchup

    2. Also, Bennett or gillmore?
No cutler in Seattle scares me with bennett

    3. I’m going with Mariotta over Big Ben due to match up. Am I crazy?

    Thanks

    • Jay

      Jay says:

    Jay!

Would appreciate some trade help por favor.

Antonio Brown is on the trading block, the guys team is filled with injuries and he needs to move him. I’m trying to figure out a good deal to offer even if I have to overpay a little. The league will veto it if they don’t think I’m giving up enough. He really needs a QB too, would it be dumb too include Matt Ryan? Only QBs available are Carr, Foles, Winston, Flacco….

    Thanks for any help!

    My Squad:

    Matt Ryan

    J Randle
    CJ Anderson
    F Gore
    M Jones
    Karlos Williams

    Julio Jones
    Jarvis Landry
    Agholor
    Green-Beckham
    Devante Parker

    Kelce
    Ebron

    • jcg says:

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@jcg: I think with those QB’s available, it might hurt you a bit. I’d probably try giving up CJ, Gore, and Landry… but it still might not be enough. If you want, Ryan, CJ, and Landry might do it if that’s the case.

@Barker: What you have is fine. I’m waiting on more reports before I finalize where I’m putting Murray. And then I’d go Garcon, but it’s close.

  34. Comatose says:

Do I have permission to start Matt Jones over Murray tonight? Other RBs are Hill, Latavius, Abdullah, Sankey.

    • Comatose says:
      (link)

      @Comatose: Standard league

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Comatose: I mean, I don’t want to have that power, but I’m still going with Murray here. Both of them.

      • Comatose says:
        (link)

@Jay: crap, I meant start Jones over Morris!

  35. Donger says:
    (link)

    Half PPR. Pick 1

Randle, Woodhead OR wait until Monday night and plug in Lacy or Starks (i have both).

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Donger: I’d wait until Monday, but Woodhead is really tempting from the PPR format. How is the rest if your lineup? If you can take the risk, I might wait to hit that homerun.

      • Donger says:
        (link)

        @Jay:

Thx. My other RB is Hyde, so I’d need two of these for the RB or Flex. I have Larry Fitz as well available for the Flex.

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@Donger: Hmm. Feeling like Woodhead is your safest choice here.

  36. Dommattingly says:
    (link)

    Mariota or Bridgewater ROS?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Dommattingly: Bridgewater, but the gap is closing.

  37. Drew says:
    (link)

    Hey Jay

These are my starts for Week3
    RB – Ingram
    RB – Ivory
    WR – Edelman
    WR – T.Y Hilton
    TE – Elfert
    FLEX – Sankey
    D/ST – Seahawks

My question to is should I replace T.Y. with Doug Baldwin or James Jones on my bench and maybe put Sankey on the bench, replace Elbert with Greg Olsen or the Panthers D/ST on my bench. Our league as two starting QB’s and I have Brady and Luck, your thoughts?

    Thanks dude.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Drew: I’d go Olsen this week, and keep Hilton in there for now. I want to see what his status is the next few days.

      • Drew says:
        (link)

@Jay: Sweet thanks dude. Good luck this week.

        • Jay

          @Drew: You too!

  38. Mike says:
    (link)

    Hey Jay,

Thanks for all of this. Why so high on CJ Anderson and so low on Matt Jones this week (I’m looking at PPR rankings, am in 0.5 ppr league)? Call me insane, but was actually considering benching CJ and starting Matt Jones. Also have woodhead on the potential bench list and playing Jones. Thanks for any input.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Mike: I’m assuming that C.J. is progressing on his ankle and toe injuries and the line will start gelling. Kubiak will keep running. I like Jones, but he’s still in a timeshare Morris, that might limit him a bit tonight.

  39. Jerry says:
    (link)

Hey, Jay! Tyrod or Kap for ros? Also, do you think it’s ok to pick up Rishard Matthews if I already have Landry? Someone beat me to Doug Baldwin and the only other decent WR on the waiver is Nate Washington. Thanks!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

      @Jerry: Kap. I think it’s okay, sure.

  40. Clos says:
    (link)

Hey Jay.. So you think I should start abdullah in the flex over Alfred Morris? Got latavius Murray and Melvin Gordon at RB and Antonio Brown and Mike Evans at WR

    • Clos says:
      (link)

      @Clos: in a standard league

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Clos: It’s close, but going Abdullah there.

  41. Dom B says:
    (link)

Should I start Eli Manning or Phillip Rivers this week

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

      @Dom B: Eli.

  42. Blake says:
    (link)

    Jay,

    In my PPR league I can start 2 WR’s and 2 RB’s plus a flex, I have:

    WR: A Cooper
    WR: P Garcon
    RB: J Forsett
    RB: L Bell
    Flex: C Ivory
    B: M Evans

Ivory is hurt – U think M evans is better? or do I go with ivory and bench garcon for evans? U have garcon ranked higher but wasn’t sure about ivory

  43. Slippy says:
    (link)

I see the ranks and Eli, rivers, and tannehill are all bunched up.. Who do I start? I’m thinking Eli but he looks like shit so far. Thx!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Slippy: Eli… but I don’t blame you if you go Rivers or Tanne.

  44. Wacha wacha says:
    (link)

10 team 2 qb leave… Which side of trade do you prefer?

T Taylor and m Jones or cj Anderson and cutler

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Wacha wacha: Anderson, it’s not close.

  45. Dom B says:
    (link)

Eli or Phillip ROY and is Eli a QB1 or 2 and Is Phillip Rivers a QB1 or 2

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Dom B: Rivers. Both are in the middle.

  46. Jerry says:
    (link)

Thanks, Jay! Would you go Ginn or Rishard Matthews as a bench player?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

      @Jerry: Matthews.

  47. Sam says:
    (link)

Yo! I gotta say man, I was on the fence about dropping Michael Floyd for Dion Lewis, and you gave me the assurance I needed to actually pull the trigger and I’m thankful for that haha.

I’m in need of another WR, Evans and Jeffery (how rough is that) are my big guys and I’ve gotten next to nothing out of them so far, but my secondary guys have come up big along with my TEs. Anyway, would you trade one of my RBs for Maclin? If so, which one(s)?

    QB – Cam
RB – Charles, L Murray, Lewis, Stewart, Yeldon
WR – Jeffery, Evans, ARob, Adams, Steve Johnson, John Brown, Decker and Martavis on the IA
    TE – Eifert, Reed, Ertz

    Hey Jay,

Just wondering on your rankings this week specifically in regard to Spiller and David Johnson. I was going to start Johnson as RB2 until I saw your rankings. I’m very hesitant to start Spiller…just wondering what the rationale was.

    Thanks as always!

Dez Bryant and CJ Anderson were dropped in my 14 teamer. Who do you like as the better pick up? Equal need at both positions.

  50. Reid says:

It’s been one of those 0-2 years so far with injuries (Lacy, Alshon, Evans, Allen) and then Bradford. In my 16 tm league I have two questions:

    1. ROS Funchess or Lockett
    2. This week, Karlos W or Funchess/Lockett?

    Thank you!!
