TMZ Sports has released the complete and disturbing video that shows Ray Rice punching his then-fiancee in the face in an Atlantic City hotel in February. This is the first time we have seen footage of Rice actually hitting Janay Rice (then Palmer), and while I won’t link it here because abuse, of any kind, sickens me, I’m sure Google can help you out. There are conflicting reports of whether or not the NFL and Roger Goodell had access to this “extended” cut when deciding the length of Rice’s suspension, because I’m sure at this point, the league would rather just look completely stupid than heartless, but, at least in my eyes, it looks like they’re going to come out as both. Nailed it!

There are two main aspects to this that affect fantasy, with the first one being– Will his suspension be changed? Well, after watching the footage, it doesn’t appear that he smokes any weed, so he should be fine. And while I would hope that Rice’s suspension would be extended by the NFL, I have very little faith for that to occur. Or didn’t you guess? And for those that try to push the “we don’t know what was said, or what she did before the video” line, I really could care less. There isn’t any more context required to understand why Ray Rice delivered a Sugar Ray Robinson special.

That being said, in a brighter bit of news, and the second aspect related to fantasy, is now there are rumblings that Ray Rice might actually be released.

“Yahoo! Sports’ Dan Wetzel has been “texting with team officials around the NFL,” and the belief around the league is that the Ravens will release Ray Rice.”

I’m not sure I actually believe that, as cutting Rice would put them way over the cap. The NFL could give an exception in this case, and technically should, but they didn’t with Aaron Hernandez, nor did they give an exemption to the Washington Football Team when Sean Taylor was murdered. Of course, asking the NFL to have consistency is kind of a LOL thing to do anyways.

As for your fantasy roster, I would suggest cutting ties and moving on. I should note though, I say this not owning or drafting him anywhere. I don’t care if you drafted him or not, but I certainly want nothing to do with him. And remember, Benard Pierce is terrible at football, so Justin Forsett is your add.

Update: Welp, that was quick. The Ravens have terminated Ray Rice’s contract. I would applaud it more if I didn’t think it was just a PR move from a team that staunchly defended him through all of this. But while they should have done this earlier, it is a step forward, however small step it is.

do you trade rice for DeAngelo/JStew/BHartline in a deep 14 team non-ppr? i don’t have a solid #2 RB and am screwed if rice is actually cut or misses more time

  2. JoeMorgan'sMustache says:
    (link)

One thing I read about is if they can’t or won’t release him that they can just make him inactive every single week. After this vid came out I don’t see how they can put him on the field.

As far as fantasy, you are correct…Forsett the add. Pierce ruined his opportunity.

    • Cheese Eating Surrender Monkey says:
      (link)

@JoeMorgan’sMustache: they’ve already “stuck by him”, it’s not like there are more girlfriends on the field, had then done it that way. Nobody with any intelligence actually believes these teams (nor Goodell) have any real “feelings” on this matter. their lawyers determined (due to today’s video being out there) it’s more profitable (just now) to do what they did. Those same lawyers (and PR guys) also told them to hold their decisions till this video came out. Had it never came out, he’d be playing week 3.

  3. JoeMorgan'sMustache says:
    (link)

Well, that was quick…he was just released.

  4. CL says:
    (link)

    Annnnd, his contract is terminated.

I have claim in for Minny DEF first, but is Forsett the #1 claim at this point? Probably doesn’t matter… I’m #12 in waivers.

/look at the fantasy life moving on

Think Ray Ray v2 ends up anywhere at this point? Nah, he can’t play now.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@CL: yeah, Forsett is the guy.

  5. Game of Throws says:
    (link)

Should I use my #1 waiver on Forsett? I already own Benard.

    Thanks!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Game of Throws: I would. I think Pearce is dead to Harbaugh.

  6. Ciwa says:
    (link)

I have Pierce in my roster,do u think i have to pick up Forsett and cut one between Grimes and James White?
    And who between them?

    • Bryan says:
      (link)

@Ciwa: Drop James white regardless. Vareen is the only Rb with any kind of role.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

      @Ciwa: yeah, drop White.

  7. Bryan says:
    (link)

Is the Rams defense droppable? Lack of offense makes them even worse.

    • CL says:
      (link)

@Bryan: I have a claim in for Minny DEF dropping STL. Had it above my claim for Forsett, but I put Forsett claim first now.

      • Cheese Eating Surrender Monkey says:
        (link)

@CL: wow, i wouldn’t do that just yet. i doubt MIN’s defense is anybody’s priority of grabbing, so they’d probably be there if you wait and saw on STL. STL’s a bunch of young guys that probably just came into season full of themselves since last year and being ranked so high by everyone everywhere.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Bryan: it is, but it doesnt have to be a priority if you have other needs.

  8. Edward Scherzer Hands says:
    (link)

What order should these RB guys be picked up? West, Hyde, Forsett

    Thanks!

  9. J-FOH says:
    (link)

I see you watched my 32 in 32 in 32 video of San Diego. Pierce is not a stud…or even a hoopy

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@J-FOH: for the Baltimore 323232 vid, Nick tried to convince me Pierce would run for 1000 yds. LOL. I’ve never thought much of him.

      • J-FOH says:
        (link)

@Jay: He goes into Nick’s Hall of Shame with David Wilson…..I still love you Nick

        • Cheese Eating Surrender Monkey says:
          (link)

@J-FOH: wasn’t david wilson’s problem a massive injury? pierce just sucks (along with BAL’s line)

  10. JoeMorgan'sMustache says:
    (link)

What’s the outlook here with Forsett…I mean I think he is the guy right now. But at 29 and weighing about 190 I have some doubts long-term. This has the makings of a messy situation at RB in BAL.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@JoeMorgan’sMustache: yeah, for me, he’s a context add. If yoy have Pierce or less, make a move. There are other RB’s I’d like depending though, and I don’t really like that offense.

  11. Gay 4 Grey says:
    (link)

J-FOH answered this in an earlier article, but I’m curious as to Jay’s thoughts.
    Pick one- Forsett, Ivory, Bradshaw

  12. Pat says:
    (link)

If I can pick up Forsett right now by dropping D Woodhead , should I do it?

    • Pat says:
      (link)

      @Pat:
NVM… I think waivers wouldn’t clear until Wednesday morning anyhow. My understanding of the wire is befuddled.

      • Jay

        Jay says:
        (link)

@Pat: mine is usually too, heh.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

      @Pat: no, I’d hold.

  13. Charles says:
    (link)

What’s Forsett’s ranking right now? I’m thinking RB3/Flex. Solid RB3 in PPR. Around Ingram/Sproles/TRich range. Yes?

    • Charles says:
      (link)

@Charles: Still get this feeling that Forsett is not the solution for 2014. Leshoure, BGE still out there.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Charles: I would say that range, bur I’m not high on Trich or Ingram, and in PPR, Sproles is a bit higher.

  14. Random Dude says:
    (link)

Jay, what’s the reasoning of putting guys like Bradshaw and Hyde above Forsett? You don’t think he holds the job?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Random Dude: I’m just not sure he’s that much better, and there’s a ceiling with that offense.

  15. Clint says:
    (link)

It’s funny to me how just a year or so ago, Goodell was accused of being all-powerful, unruly, power hungry, and careless with his huge hammer he was dropping in numerous cases from the defensive fines to players like Justin Blackmon (while guys like Rapist-burger got away with a handslap). Now, he’s a wimp who isn’t standing up to major issues in his league like domestic abuse while he IS doing so with drug use apparently? Which is it?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Clint: the media is at fault some too for the past, but he simply lost touch with reality here.

  16. Diddy says:
    (link)

As a Doug Martin owner, do I grab Rainey or Forsett (ppr)?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

      @Diddy: I’d go Forsett here.

  17. Teddy says:
    (link)

    Hey jay-

Which defense’s matchup would you add for week 2 & maybe longer?

    Week 2 matchups

    Texans D (@ Oakland)

    Vikings D (vs Pats)

    Dolphins D (@ buffalo)

    Bills D (vs dolphins)

Buccaneers D (vs Rams, Shaun hill is banged up)

    Jaguars (@ Washington)

    Redskins D (vs jags)

    Lions D (@ panthers)

Thanks man! Out of this group I like the texans & Bucs but want to see what you think

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Teddy: going Houston here right now.

  18. Spammer Jay says:
    (link)

Hey Jay, Are you going to have a buy/sell kind-of dilio tomorrow?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Spammer Jay: Jennifer will be making her razzball debut with a buy sell column. Should be great.

  19. Tom says:
    (link)

Jay would you drop L. Miller know that Moreno has the show in Miami. Thinking of picking up in this order:

    Bradshaw
    Hyde
    Forsett

This would be my #4 RB

    Thanks

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Tom: I would switch Hyde with Bradshaw, but yes

  20. Fish says:
    (link)

This whole situation thoroughly confuses me. Was Rice initially suspended for 2 games (and supported afterwards by teammates) for happening to be in an elevator with an unconscious Mrs. Rice , but wasn’t punished any more than that since “anything could have happened” to have caused Mrs. Rice to be unconscious and there was no way to known without a full video? Did anyone really need to see the TMV release to put two-and-two together? And why more institutional outrage now than initially upon the news story?

I don’t get what this video changed from what we already knew happened; it only confirmed it.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Fish: Right. It would appear that everyone was okay with everything until we actually saw the act. I mean, what did they think happened in the elevator to make her unconscious?
