Did it feel like fantasy scoring was just down last week compared to the first two weeks of the season? No? That was just my team? Dang.

Well, hop on in here and take a look at where the RazzBowl sits heading into Week 4.

I think the reason I felt scoring was down last week is I roster a lot of Mahomes and Murray all over the place, and I have way too few rosters with LA Rams on them. Last week the Rams, especially Cooper Kupp, put up a ton of points for fantasy owners.

But the real winners in Week 3 were the owners of some relatively-unsung heroes: Ja’Marr Chase, while a hyped rookie, didn’t really produce in the first two weeks, but he came on strong in Week 3, scoring 22.5 points in the RazzBowl. And Dallas TE Dalton Schultz — I’ve heard of him! I thought he’d be bigger — racked up an astonishing 26 points.

It’s performances like those, and DeSean Jackson of the aforementioned Rams explosion — DeSean apparently decided that he is in fact not 34 years old, and it is in fact 2013 — that helped catapult many teams hundreds of places in the Overall RazzBowl Standings, including Matthew “Mattywood” Davis, a renowned fantasy baseball expert, who made the largest gain in the tournament this week, moving from 212th (bottom sixth) to 97th (top third).

Taking a look at the waiver pickups for Week 4, the trend that stands out is restrained bidding. Lots of $1 and $2 bids, I don’t think anything over $5 (though that bid did come unopposed). Personally, I shored up a weak QB and TE corps by adding Teddy Bridgewater and Tyler Conklin, and spent my last $2 on Cordarrelle Patterson with no runner-up. I’ll have to wait and see how much I miss that wasted dollar, plus the two I wasted picking up Jameis Winston a couple weeks ago.

Below are all the players added this week, how many leagues they were added in, and the highest winning bid. Keep in mind, some of these players were already on rosters in some leagues and so weren’t available (we know what some folks spent on CorPat last week. Craziness).

Personally, I find it interesting that Conklin could get picked up in nearly half of the RazzBowl’s 21 leagues, and still go for just a buck in every one of them.

And who the hell is paying $5 for Teddy Bridgewater at this point?! Amazing.

How does our Top Ten look this week?

Well, for starters: just three managers from last week’s Top Ten remain! That’s pretty amazing, and shows just the kind of swing the best ball (ok, Mike, “better ball”) format can produce, as players like Alexander Mattison can have a day like he did, and no one wastes that performance on their bench. Last week’s leader, Bobby LaMarco, dropped just one spot to #2, while previously-fifth-place Nick Spencer finds himself our new leader. Also remaining in the Top Ten is tournament co-creator BDon, who moves from 9th to 6th.

Newcomers to the Top Ten, welcome! We have the mysteriously named fan, “Matt C” in 3rd, fan Mitch Bunker in 4th, and the venerable (which is to say, old, but also talented) Michael Salfino in 5th. Matt and Mitch had to jump up several places to get where they are, most impressive was Matt C launching himself from 32nd to 3rd on the backs of Mike Williams, Kendrick Bourne, Dalton Schultz, and Manny Sanders. The lowest scoring players in Matt’s starting lineup for Week 3? Mike Evans and Derrick Henry. Unreal.

In 7th place right after BDon is another fan, Sepehr Hoesseini, and in 8th was the largest jump up into the Top Ten, as fantasy industry darling and co-host of the Fantasy Besties podcast, Linda “Lindellions” moved from 40th to find herself here in the Top Ten, thanks in large part to Justin Herbert, Cooper Kupp, and Emmanuel Sanders. Rounding out a powerful Top Ten are Tim Heaney of The GameDay, and self-described “Friend of Metallica”, Andy Hall of LAZER 103.3 in Des Moines.

And that will wrap up our RazzBowl Update for this week, folks! Huge congratulations to everyone in the Top Ten, but remember! This is a Cutline tournament: the Overall Standings are fun and all, and honestly doing well there is evidence of a good season… but what really matters is being top half, preferably top three, in your league. That’s how you’ll stay alive past Week 9.

Until next week, cheers!
