I didn’t mention this last week, but half of our Championship finalists drafted 10th or later. None drafted first or second, and only three drafted on the top half of the first round. Way to make a “disadvantage” work for you!

And now the postscript I promised last week.

I finally figured out a way to see what was happening with our playoffs. Unfortunately, doing that meant I had to wait for each round to begin. We had a rules page for all leagues which went out the window once the playoffs began.

I’ll confess: I’ve never made it far enough in the three other RazzBowls I participated in to have a sense if this has always been the case.

On the rules page, the playoffs would begin with either the top 2 or top 3 teams (both conditions, regrettably, are on the rules page) in each division after the regular season ended, advancing to the first Championship Tier for the playoffs.

That statement was a red flag, but I did not anticipate it being only the first.

Below is how the rules posted implied the playoffs would proceed:

EXPECTED

Round 1 would have been three weeks. The “Teams” column has the number of teams participating in each round. “Champ” is the number of teams in the Championship Tier, “Stay” is the number of teams that would continue in the Championship Tier for the next round, and “Go” is the number of teams that would move to the Wildcard Tier. “Wildcard” is the number of teams at the beginning of each round in the Wildcard Tier. “Go” is the number of teams that would move to the Championship Tier for the next round, “Stay” is the number of teams that would remain in the Wildcard Tier, and “Elim” is the number of teams that would exit the tournament at the end of the round.

“EXPECTED” is not what happened.

Round 2 started at the beginning of Week 13. Okay. But the presentation for Round 2 was different. I went through all the tables at the beginning of each round, which I could not see until that week’s games had started and data was populating. I came up with a scenario I call “IMPLIED” because I inferred these from the tables that were being presented in NFFC:

IMPLIED

“IMPLIED” is not what happened.

I was able to piece together what happened from round to round only in looking back, and that is what I’m showing below:

If this confuses you, then you’ve arrived where I’ve arrived. For the most part, the number of teams in the Championship Tier followed the rules page, but the distribution of the tiers varied. We did not have teams being eliminated until after Round 3.

I have what I think is a simple first goal for RazzBowl8: consistent messaging. If we’re going to ask you to join our tournament, we should be clear about what is going to occur throughout.

We want to thank each and every one of you who joined us for RazzBowl7, and you’ll be receiving invites for RazzBowl8. Goal two is giving people more time to register and recruiting more people to join us.

If you’re not in RazzBowl7 and have an interest in participating in RazzBowl8, reach out to me here for details.

Take a moment to scan the site for our other articles that are dropping daily! We also cover MLB, NBA, and NHL, so visit us all year long. We even have a shop: https://store.razzball.com/

RazzballNFL also hosts a weekly Sunday Start/Sit Show throughout the fantasy football season! We’d love to have you join us on the Razzball YouTube channel (@RazzballFantasy) starting at 11:00 a.m. EST (or thereabouts).

You did a great job! That second overall finish in the regular season came in handy at the end, followed by great scores in Weeks 16 and 17! Congratulations, and we hope to see you again in the summer when we draft for RazzBowl8!
And let me echo Grey: if you haven’t received his email, reach out! Enjoy your prizes!
      Best,
      Dave
