With no more Josh Allen to entertain us with incredibly awful and fun plays this postseason, I decided to take another stab at the mock draft with playoff predictions dictating draft order. Again, only 3.0 and later will have mock trades, so some of these picks and fits feel a little wonky.

Like, I realize this is waaay early, and a million things can change……BUT…..as a Packer fan I have a very hard time believing that 1st round pick is gonna be used on a DT. They love their young D line now, and that is part of why they were surprisingly willing to let Mike Daniels walk away last year (something they never really regretted doing at any point this year). They are gonna pay Kenny Clark at some point. They still love their young DT’s in M. Adams and K. Keke. Regardless of “best player available”, that pick is far more likely to be used on a WR, CB, OT (if they can’t figure out something w/ Bulaga), MLB, or Safety.

      Reid says:

      Hey AP,

Thanks for the comment. I think the mock draft is somewhat handicapped by the self-enforced rule of no mock trades. I agree that likely GB doesn’t end up going with a DT. That being said, Kinlaw being available in that spot would be seen mostly as a “too good of a player to not draft” move.

Once Mock 3.0 drops, i’ll have mock trades that will shake up some of this.

  2. cmutimmah says:

If Chase Young falls to the Lions, they take him. If not, they trade out of their spot.

Isiah Simmons is a great player, but I don’t think the Lions need to take him at 3. They would likely trade down to 5 or 6 or 7 (MIA, LAC, and CAR all need a QB). Would they take Simmons at those later picks? Maybe, but I see Espinosa or Okudah as the options at those spots.

In the end, if they don’t trade out, I kind of wish they would take Tua and trade Stafford. (Assuming Tua gets a clean medical report)

All pipe dreams, that team won’t do anything smart… helll they probably will draft Simmons at 3.

  3. Reid

    Reid says:

    Lolololol I absolutely agree.

The key to any mock draft is not “Who should this team take in a perfect world?”

It’s actually “What do I think this team will end up doing?”

If you look at my first mock draft, you’ll actually see my justification for Simmons at 3. I don’t necessarily think it’s a bad pick. I love Simmons and think he’s a better form of Tremaine Edmunds. But Okudah is the biggest need for Detroit. And with no mock trades, I think Detroit would pick Simmons if they didn’t trade out.
