Commenter dskibin2 posted in the forums: “A friend of mine, who I believe to be a trusted source, has inside info that Sidney Rice underwent season ending hip surgery today in Colorado. Take it for what its worth, just trying to give a heads up before it hits ESPN.”  Then not too long after that, Judd Zulgad, a beat reporter for the Vikings writes on his Twitter account, “Just filed a story that Vikings WR Sidney Rice has been in Vail, Colo., in recent days to have his hip examined at the Steadman Clinic. It sounds as if there is a very good chance Rice will end up having surgery on his injured hip.”

A very interesting development and if you have already drafted Rice and there is a chance Berrian is available, grab him now.  This hurts Favre, but really boosts Harvin, Shiancoe, and Berrian.  It could give Adrian Peterson a little more work, but he’s already going #2 overall and I just don’t see any reason to push him above CJ at this point.

Zulag is saying the surgery could keep him out for half the season, so I wouldn’t just drop him yet.  The story is still in its infancy.  But thanks to dskibin2 for the heads up!

UPDATE — It is confirmed that Rice did have the surgery and should be out at least 8 games.
