Is it too early to be pulling the strategery out? Yes, yes it is.  Is it worth taking a look at? Probably not.  Then why are you wasting all of our time!? Well, it’s not a complete waste of time.  I think the rankings are going to fluctuate wildly (oh, and never question me!), but I do like having all of these individual rankings in one place.  Yes, all of these should be put into context, but it’s good to see where we start and follow the trends.  You’ll see Houston and Washington at the bottom of the rankings because of the aerial assault they put on each other, so we have to ask if their pass D’s are that bad? No, they aren’t, but how not bad are they?  If, in a few weeks they’ve settled more to the middle of the pack, that means they must be playing really well.  Anyway, we need to keep an eye on the trends, so we might as well start now.

All of these numbers are rankings, not yards or fantasy points

Key:

Yds/Gm: Total passing yards given up per game

QB FPA: Fantasy points allowed to quarterback

Comp%: Completion Percentage against

WR FPA: Fantasy points allowed to wide receiver

DVOA: Defense-adjusted Value Over Average

Yds/c: Yards Per Reception

    Hey Doc,

What do you think of the following receivers:

DHB – Seems like he may be breaking out soon

Deon Butler – Carroll says he’s a “playmaker” and wants to involve him more in the offense

Josh Morgan – Seems to be steadying, especially with the poor play of Crabtree

Stephen Williams – Feel like he may wind up the #2 out there before long

    Thanks,

  2. Doc

@BAM: i think all have potential, but none have huge upside in their situations. I think they should still be on waivers in 12 team leagues with normal benches.

Ok, well, below are the guys (worth mentioning) that are currently available in my league:

    Heyward-Bey, Darrius
    Robinson, Laurent

    Avant, Jason
    Lloyd, Brandon
    Branch, Deion
    Davis, Craig
    Butler, Deon
    Chambers, Chris
    Robiskie, Brian
    Berrian, Bernard
    Bess, Davone
    Galloway, Joey
    Henderson, Devery
    LaFell, Brandon
    Stuckey, Chansi
    Williams, Stephen
    Armstrong, Anthony
    Johnson, Steve
    Nelson, David
    Parrish, Roscoe
    Bennett, Earl
    Gage, Justin
    Hartline, Brian
    Lewis, Greg
    Stroughter, Sammie
    Tate, Brandon
    Gettis, David
    Johnson, Bryant
    Finneran, Brian

Here is my current receiving group:

    Moss
    Nicks
    Amendola
    M. Thomas
    Josh Morgan
    Golden Tate

I’m in a .5PPR league with return yardage. Are there any members of my current group that you’d drop for anyone on the wire? If so, who?

    Thanks,

Doc, is Boldin good return value for Beanie? I still have faith that The Bean will do well this year but I’m hurtin’ at WR. I like Boldin but Flacco’s struggles concern me.

@BAM: In a return yardage league I think you are good there.

@stumanji: I think Boldin will be fine as long as he stays healthy. If it fits your team I can see making the trade.

******* Ryan Mathews has a high ankle sprain*******

He hasn’t been ruled out, but Tolbert is looking better and better.

@Doc: thoughts on keiland williams? Saw yesterdays post, but do you think he can be another prodigy of Shannys rbs?

Holy hell man on Tolbert bah! Man almost had him but at least the guy who got him really needed him. Wow I hate football scary stuff

Sproles worth anything in 12team NonPPR? over D. Brown

McFadden for Ochocinco a good deal? I would be getting Ocho.

Has your opinion of MJD changed after the first two games? Does Desean Jackson’s value drop much with Vick under center?

non-ppr league. i want to pick up freeman as a backup QB since i dont have one. i have great depth at RB, who would you drop out of these 3 if you had to: forsett, harrison or bjax? bjax is looking worse with news of a timeshare.

A frustrated Matthews owner, who got Tolbert on waivers. Should I pull the trigger on Matthews/Knox for Beanie Wells/Dez Bryant?

    Chet,

Would you trade Greg Jennings for Hakeem Nicks and CJ Spiller? I need some RB depth and feel like it’s only a matter of time before they realize this year is not their year and Spiller gets the majority of the carries.

I’ve got some solid WRs even if I move Jennings. Megatron, Colston, S. Holmes, Demaryius Thomas and Bernard Berrian (for if/when Favre decides to leave)

My bench RBs are lousy after my top 3 of Gore, Foster and Best. I’ve got Leon Washington and Peyton Hillis and that’s it, pretty yawnstipating if you ask me.

My only concern is he’s got Rodgers as his QB and would get double the points for TDs and yardage.

@sal: I like him. Don’t know if he will succeed, but I think he’ll get the opportunity.

    @MJD Took A Knee: I’d lean Brown.

    @Derrick: Rather have McFadden.

@Shippity: I don’t think it drops. I’m in a holding pattern on MJD. He hasn’t looked hampered.

@trick dad: You don’t think you do a 2-1 trade that will allow you pick him up afterward?

@The Den: I’d hold off for now.

I grabbed VJax in the 15th round on draft day hoping he’d pay dividends. After today, it looks like he probably won’t. Obviously, we might not have a definite answer on Jackson for the next five weeks, but I don’t know if the slim possibility of him playing is worth a roster spot in a 10-team league. I just dropped Jacobs for Demaryius to plug a gaping hole at WR, but now that Jackson’s stock has dropped, should I ditch him and reclaim Jacobs? Alternately, I could pick up D. Brown (possible matchup flex play and a handcuff for Addai).

Would you go Bengals D vs Carolina , or the Miami Dolphins D vs Jets and why?

@Angelo Brown: I like the Bengals. They just picked off flacco 4 times and now they get Clausen’s first start ever.
