Wednesdays are my favorite day of the week.  No, really.  Sundays are fun, but football is getting so tough to watch anymore.  Did you watch Monday Night Football?  Just brutal.  Alas, I’ll complain but continue to watch. But Wednesday is the best.  It’s my Saturday off from my job, so a day off is always nice.  Don’t get me wrong.  I absolutely love my job.  I get to interview B-list celebrities, D-list celebrities, local celebrities and write about sports.  Not a bad gig at all.  But everyone loves a day off. For me, it’s my relaxing day, but it starts early.  It starts at 5:30 a.m., to be exact.  Yes, I set an alarm on my day off, but why?  Well, I have to see if I won my FAAB bids in my leagues, and whoever didn’t get picked up, I swoop in and grab them.

Obsessed?  Yes.  But you have to be if you want to win your leagues…

This Wednesday, I woke up to the delight of finding out that I won DeAngelo Williams in both of my leagues.  I emptied the budget in both leagues down to $0 and spent $133 FAAB on Williams alone. Later that evening, I flipped Williams, Jarvis Landry and Tyler Eifert (I have Gronk, Odell and Green) for Devonta Freeman and some throw-ins.  Needless to say, no matter what the rest of the week brings, nothing will match Wednesday. Now, if I could only have a better week with my streamers this week than I did last week. Brutal, just brutal.  But let’s get to it.

Jameis Winston (26 percent) vs. New York Giants — Did you see what Drew Brees did to this Giants’ defense last week?  Now, Winston shouldn’t be in the same breath as Brees, let alone the same paragraph.  Alas, here he is.  I don’t expect him to tie a record like Brees did, but three scores definitely seems possible.

I’d start him over: Andrew Luck, Ryan Tannehill, David Carr

I’d sit him for: Tyrod Taylor, Jay Cutler, Peyton Manning

Kirk Cousins (9 percent) at New England — You have to be desperate, but with six teams on bye, you just may be.  It’s going to be ugly, but the Washington football team will have plenty of junk-time opportunity to score in New England.  Bonus points if your league doesn’t penalize for interceptions.

I’d start him over: Andrew Luck, Blake Bortles, Sam Bradford.

I’d sit him for: David Carr, Tyrod Taylor, Jameis Winston.

How did I do last week?

Brian Hoyer: 17.30 fantasy points.

Ryan Fitzpatrick: 3.04 fantasy points (left with injury in first quarter).

Tight Ends

Heath Miller (44 percent) vs. Raiders — Look, I could use the crutch argument that you start your tight ends against the Raiders, but I’ve used that almost every week.  It remains true, but more importantly, in games that Ben Roethlisberger has played the entire game, Miller has 12.40, 10.50 and 15.50 points, respectively.

I’d start him over: Martellus Bennett, Julius Thomas, Jason Witten.

I’d sit him for: Charles Clay, Benjamin Watson, Jordan Reed.

Jacob Tamme (19 percent) at San Francisco — Matt Ryan will be without Leonard Hankerson it appears (as of 5:37 p.m. Thursday), so that opens the door up for Tamme to contribute again.  He will be the third option in the offense behind Julio Jones and Devonta Freeman.

I’d start him over: Julius Thomas, Jason Witten, Martellus Bennett.

I’d sit him for: Heath Miller, Charles Clay, Benjamin Watson.

How did I do last week?

Austin Seferian-Jenkins: 0 fantasy points (inactive).

Jeff Cumberland: 1.20 fantasy points (damn you, Kellen Davis).

Kicker and Defense & Special Teams

Connor Barth (13 percent) vs. New York Giants — The Bucs are going to score a lot of points, and Barth has been money since taking over kicking duties in Tampa Bay.  In his three games with the team, he has 14, 13 and 11 fantasy points, respectively.

I’d start him over: Graham Gano, Matt Bryant, Caleb Sturgis.

I’d sit him for: Blair Walsh, Chris Boswell, Nick Folk.

Atlanta (64 percent) at San Francisco — They crushed me last week, but I’m going back to the well and it seems that others are, too.  They face Blaine Gabbert, a trio of running backs, no Vernon Davis and likely on Anquan Boldin.  I just turned down a contract from the Niners because I have to work Sunday.

I’d start them over: Eagles, Jets, Steelers.

I’d sit them for: Patriots, Rams, Broncos.

How did I do last week?

Blair Walsh: 13 points.

Atlanta DST: 2 points.

  1. Steve Stevenson says:

Would you drop J. Thomas for ASJ? Would probably start this week at flex in 0.5 ppr (Reed is my starter).

  2. Joe says:

So I have one team in this 8-team PPR league where we play QB-WR-WR-RB-RB-TE-FLEX-FLEX-K-DEF. My roster is:

    QB: Palmer, Roethlisberger
WR: Green, Cooper, A-Rob, Brown, Hilton, Matthews
    RB: Hill, West, DeAngelo, Yeldon,
    TE: Kelce, Gates
    K: J.Brown
    DEF: Jets

I have one add left this week. Should I use it on McFadden, Langford, Crabtree, or B.Walsh?

    • @Joe: McFadden. Clearer path to touches rest of the season, health pending, of course. McFadden > Langford > Crabtree > Walsh

  3. B.J. says:

    Howdy boys,

Over the last few days I have received many offers for Gronk in my 12 team nonPPR, and most of them have been junk, but I received one last night that has me intrigued.

I get: Dez, Ingram , and M. Bennett
I give: Gronk, Chris Andre Ellington , and Malcom Floyd

My thinking in this situation is that I could use a top WR, and Dez has the potential to be an every week monster. Ingram gives me a clear #1 RB after losing Bell and Foster for the year. Bennett isn’t the sexiest of options at TE but my mindset is that I’ve got to sacrifice a bit to get such major upgrades at RB and WR.

The only player I’d really miss is Gronk. But I just traded for him earlier this week and I haven’t even had him in my lineup, so how much will I really miss him? The remaining three players that I’d be giving up are bench players and it’s unlikely that I would ever play them barring injury or bye week.

So what do you guys think?

    My team
QB- Matty Ice WR- DT, Evans, S. Watkins
RB- L. Murray, Ivory TE- Gronk
Flex- Yeldon K- Walsh DEF- New England

    Bench- Chris Johnson , Hausckha, D. Carr, Carolina D, Ma. Floyd , C. Michael , A. Ellington
    IR- Ajayi

    • @B.J.: I think I would make this move. It sucks because Ingram hasn’t had his bye yet, and you’ll miss Gronk a lot, but Ingram will be a top 5 RB rest of the IMO. Bennett sucks, but you could do worse or stream the position each week.

  4. Superfly says:

Good morning Mike, PPR My Wr’s J. Landry, A. Robinson, B. Cooks, S. Diggs and D. Jackson…RB’s Gore, A. Peterson, J. Langford, TE D. Walker….QB’s Palmer and Tannenhill… Starting 2 wr’s,1 te, 2 rb’s,1 qb, 1 te/wr and 1 rb/wr flex….Would you trade Palmer and Diggs for B. Bortles and Demariyus Thomas or old pat with what I have????? Thanks…

    • @Superfly: I would stand pat with what you have. TD regression is coming for Thomas, but I firmly believe Diggs is a top 15 WR the rest of the way. The gap isn’t big enough between them to make up for the gap between Palmer and Bortles, despite Palmer’s tough upcoming schedule.

      • The Harrow says:

@Michael Waterloo: thank you for being somebody around here that understands the meaning of regression, it’s nice to see.

  5. Jeff says:

    First time here . . .

I’m in a two QB league, so I have to start two of these three: Luck, Mariota, Fitzpatrick. Thoughts? I also have hilton – so much for that stack – should i bench him even if he plays? my league has a deep roster, but with byes not too much on my bench, though i think i’m okay if i sit hilton. i also have yeldon in a tough matchup in one of my three flex positions – should i take a risk on green-beckham instead?

    • @Jeff: Welcome, Jeff! I would play Hilton over DGB if he’s healthy and hope for the best. I have the same decision to make with Mariota and Luck, but I’m leaning luck. I know Eli carved up the Saints last week, to put it nicely, but it’s hard for me to play Mariota with Harry Douglas and Delanie Walker leading the way. I’m playing Luck and going Mariota as my QB2 if I’m you, just to limit risk.

  6. david says:

You helped me greatly last week by siding w starting Brees over Cutler last week!

I started Barnridge this week and only got me 5 pts… Who should I start at Flex this week out these three? Allen Robinson, Stefon Diggs, or Charles Clay?

I was leaning Clay since he has a better match and history against his former team….

    • @david: Awesome! Was hoping you went with Brees. Diggs > Clay > Robinson for me as long as Diggs is good to go.

  7. Benny says:

Marquess Wilson looks like he’s getting the start this week. Would you go with him or Dontrelle Inmann?

    • Benny says:

@Benny: Actually, I’d two of these three – Wilson, Inmann, or Terrence Williams. Who ya got?

  8. Benny says:

What the heck, why I’m at it… What’s your outlook on Larry Fitzgerald vs Randall Cobb ROS? Cobb has been pretty disappointing besides one or two games.

    • @Benny: I’m going with the guys on Monday night. I want no part of Terrance Williams. Also, I think Fitz is a sell-high on name value and early production and Cobb is a buy-low candidate. Rest of season, I’m taking Cobb over Fitz.

  9. Dirty d says:

Who would you drop in a keeper between David Cobb Matt Jones and Christine Michael. Assuming each could be kept as a 10th rounder next yr. Also need to factor in potential for this yr too.

  10. Landisimo3 says:

Oh dear…. Karlos Williams or Orleans Darkwa ?? My God

  11. The Talent Show says:

Need some help for two roster spots.
Moncrief vs den, vereen @tb, Marques Wilson @ sd, watson vs tenn?

    • Dirty d says:

@The Talent Show: I would go Watson and Wilson. Moncreif has a tough matchup and I need to see more from Luck to trust Moncreif. Vereens usage is tough to predict.

  12. s.h says:

Waterloo in my head to head dynasty league would you deal Woodhead for Devante Parker.? Also what side do you like better in the same league E.Sanders and Forsett for Forte, Moncrief and Marvin Jones.

    • @s.h: I would want Parker since its dynasty. Then the forte side. More upside there.

  13. Beans says:

What’s up man? In a PPR please pick a WR and a flex. Snead, Cooks, Rishard and Hillman. Thank you

    • @Beans: hey man. I’ll take the two saints guys. Cooks > Snead > Hillman > Matthews.
