Wednesdays are my favorite day of the week. No, really. Sundays are fun, but football is getting so tough to watch anymore. Did you watch Monday Night Football? Just brutal. Alas, I’ll complain but continue to watch. But Wednesday is the best. It’s my Saturday off from my job, so a day off is always nice. Don’t get me wrong. I absolutely love my job. I get to interview B-list celebrities, D-list celebrities, local celebrities and write about sports. Not a bad gig at all. But everyone loves a day off. For me, it’s my relaxing day, but it starts early. It starts at 5:30 a.m., to be exact. Yes, I set an alarm on my day off, but why? Well, I have to see if I won my FAAB bids in my leagues, and whoever didn’t get picked up, I swoop in and grab them.
Obsessed? Yes. But you have to be if you want to win your leagues…
This Wednesday, I woke up to the delight of finding out that I won DeAngelo Williams in both of my leagues. I emptied the budget in both leagues down to $0 and spent $133 FAAB on Williams alone. Later that evening, I flipped Williams, Jarvis Landry and Tyler Eifert (I have Gronk, Odell and Green) for Devonta Freeman and some throw-ins. Needless to say, no matter what the rest of the week brings, nothing will match Wednesday. Now, if I could only have a better week with my streamers this week than I did last week. Brutal, just brutal. But let’s get to it.
Quarterbacks
Jameis Winston (26 percent) vs. New York Giants — Did you see what Drew Brees did to this Giants’ defense last week? Now, Winston shouldn’t be in the same breath as Brees, let alone the same paragraph. Alas, here he is. I don’t expect him to tie a record like Brees did, but three scores definitely seems possible.
I’d start him over: Andrew Luck, Ryan Tannehill, David Carr
I’d sit him for: Tyrod Taylor, Jay Cutler, Peyton Manning
Kirk Cousins (9 percent) at New England — You have to be desperate, but with six teams on bye, you just may be. It’s going to be ugly, but the Washington football team will have plenty of junk-time opportunity to score in New England. Bonus points if your league doesn’t penalize for interceptions.
I’d start him over: Andrew Luck, Blake Bortles, Sam Bradford.
I’d sit him for: David Carr, Tyrod Taylor, Jameis Winston.
How did I do last week?
Brian Hoyer: 17.30 fantasy points.
Ryan Fitzpatrick: 3.04 fantasy points (left with injury in first quarter).
Tight Ends
Heath Miller (44 percent) vs. Raiders — Look, I could use the crutch argument that you start your tight ends against the Raiders, but I’ve used that almost every week. It remains true, but more importantly, in games that Ben Roethlisberger has played the entire game, Miller has 12.40, 10.50 and 15.50 points, respectively.
I’d start him over: Martellus Bennett, Julius Thomas, Jason Witten.
I’d sit him for: Charles Clay, Benjamin Watson, Jordan Reed.
Jacob Tamme (19 percent) at San Francisco — Matt Ryan will be without Leonard Hankerson it appears (as of 5:37 p.m. Thursday), so that opens the door up for Tamme to contribute again. He will be the third option in the offense behind Julio Jones and Devonta Freeman.
I’d start him over: Julius Thomas, Jason Witten, Martellus Bennett.
I’d sit him for: Heath Miller, Charles Clay, Benjamin Watson.
How did I do last week?
Austin Seferian-Jenkins: 0 fantasy points (inactive).
Jeff Cumberland: 1.20 fantasy points (damn you, Kellen Davis).
Kicker and Defense &Â Special Teams
Connor Barth (13 percent) vs. New York Giants — The Bucs are going to score a lot of points, and Barth has been money since taking over kicking duties in Tampa Bay. In his three games with the team, he has 14, 13 and 11 fantasy points, respectively.
I’d start him over: Graham Gano, Matt Bryant, Caleb Sturgis.
I’d sit him for: Blair Walsh, Chris Boswell, Nick Folk.
Atlanta (64 percent) at San Francisco — They crushed me last week, but I’m going back to the well and it seems that others are, too. They face Blaine Gabbert, a trio of running backs, no Vernon Davis and likely on Anquan Boldin. I just turned down a contract from the Niners because I have to work Sunday.
I’d start them over: Eagles, Jets, Steelers.
I’d sit them for: Patriots, Rams, Broncos.
How did I do last week?
Blair Walsh: 13 points.
Atlanta DST: 2 points.
