So I was out of town this past weekend and I was flying back Sunday in the late morning. As much as airports suck and flying in general can be a real drag, I’ve always enjoyed watching football while waiting for a flight. If I’m by myself I can enjoy my overpriced beer served by an antipathetic server while I overhear the most ridiculous conversations of the nearby tables. When I’m with a friend, it’s just like being at a real bar, where shit talking reigns and wildly outrageous proclamations are never verified via cellphone. Watching football is one of the only saving graces of airports, and I for one, am thankful for it.

This will be the second installment of Stat-o-Matic where we will look at some advanced stats around the NFL. As a disclaimer, I am using this space to play around with some numbers and present some interesting findings. But, by no means is this validated or predictive data. I hope that it will lead to meaningful discoveries or it could inspire you to go down your own rabbit hole. We’re going to explore together, crunch some numbers and see what pops out.

You have to love when two guys have career days and the starting percentages are probably pretty low on them. I say pretty low because I’m sure there were people in bad bye week spots or in deeper leagues that had to start Chase Edmonds or Marvin Jones Jr. Marvin Jones is a solid WR3 for fantasy but I don’t think that many were elated about slotting him in against the Vikings. For those that were savvy enough to start Jones Jr., he rewarded them with 10 catches, 93 yards and 4 touchdowns. That is a best ball format wet dream. In the leagues that I own Jones Jr., I can’t see myself leaving him on the bench again against the Giants next week.

Chase Edmonds was a different type of situation. David Johnson was named active going into the game and he took one carry for 2 yards and didn’t touch the ball again for the rest of the game. I’m guessing that the majority of people that heard Johnson was active took Edmonds out of their lineup. Well, Edmonds carried the ball 27 times for 126 yards and 3 touchdowns. Incredible. Let’s get to some other performances from the early slate on Sunday.

Here at Razzball, we can’t get enough of the Chubb puns. Whether it’s Donkey Teeth, Zach, or myself, we’re going to force our d*ck jokes into you. WOAH! WOAH! WOAH! Personal foul and possible ejection on MB. We’re going to have to bring in Mike Pereira for that one. After further review, I will be allowed to review the early games for you. Later today, you can find Donkey Teeth’s round up of the late afternoon games and the Sunday night tilt.

There wasn’t much that the Cleveland Browns could do for your fantasy teams but we’ll get to that in a little bit. I’m talking about Marquise Brown and A.J. Brown, the pair of rookie wide receivers that played their way into triple digit receiving yards in week 1. A.J. Brown was probably the bigger surprise for the Tennessee Titans. For one, there wasn’t much buzz around him during the preseason. Also, nobody really believes in Marcus Mariota. A.J. Brown caught 3 of his for targets for 100 yards but wasn’t able to score a touchdown. HOLLYWOOD Marquise Brown did sneak through the secondary and score two touchdowns against the Dolphins. He caught 4 of his 5 targets for 147 yards.

As the start of the regular season approaches fantasy football ADP becomes tight to the actual market. Everyone has had as much time to digest information and review preseason data as they will possibly get. The next two weekends will see a majority of the fantasy football drafts for the entire 2019 season completed. It’s the time of year for proclamations, flag planting, decisions, “my guys”, whatever your buzzword may be. In the months leading up to now a lot of the focus is on the idea of finding a few rounds of value prior to the ADP stabilization mentioned above for early drafts and best balls. Now it is about identifying the players that just you want to commit your season to. The following are the players that I am trying to come away with at least a piece of in nearly every standard roster PPR draft.
