Week 1 is almost here, like just a few hours from this post! So it technically is already here when you read this! TIME TRAVEL! And while I’ve obviously taken a (further to the) back seat this year (self-imposed, just life maaaaan), I’ll still stop by weekly and provide my rankings. I’ll try to get to questions as best I can, but time, or the lack thereof, is becoming an increasing issue for me, despite the above breakthrough in time travel theory. All I can promise is that I’ll try my best, but you can always count on MB, Zach, and the rest of the wonderful Razzball crew to help you this entire season. While I’ve found great success with my rankings, all of our contributors have been offering the content and analysis that complements all of our rankings. I’d hope that you come to rely on them as I have so often the past two seasons. Regardless, as I spoiled earlier, Week 1 is incoming, along with another NFL season, so let’s get Razzasty. I’m actually not sure how to pronounce that…

2014 Accuracy: 57.00% (3rd out of 20 Experts, Range: 58.40% – 48.10%).

After months and months of analysis, mock drafts, and ultimately the actual draft, it’s finally time to set your Week 1 lineup. There is nothing more alternately exciting and terrifying as having to make the choice between two players that you valued similarly at draft time. The rankings below will hopefully help make some of those choices, but given that this is the first week of actual football, the best plan is to keep things simple. Typically, the guy you drafted first is the guy you want to start this week. There will obviously be exceptions to that rule, mostly due to injuries or suspensions, but don’t overthink matchups at this point. Basing lineup decisions around matchups is difficult for IDPs in general, and even more so when all we have is training camp and preseason games to analyze. Instead, the goal is to simply get as many snaps for your guys as possible. I tend to play things safe in Week 1, going with someone I know will at least get me some points instead of a guy who could potentially throw up a goose egg and contribute to an 0-1 start…

I spent the last two weeks combining my apartment and my fiancee’s apartment into one, just so I could be prepared for Week One of the NFL season. I sat around waiting on the DirecTV guy for four long hours just to be told, immediately, that the satellite dish wouldn’t work on my balcony. While he was discussing the finer points of the southern sky, I had a terrible realization: I’m about to spend the next 17 Sundays with Ryan Fitzpatrick and Tony Romo, and the occasional Drew Brees sprinkled in just to taunt me. Mind you, I am a Miami fan, so it’s not like I’m used to excellent quarterbacking, but this is ‘Murika. I expect freedom!

After a bottle of bourbon and a good night’s sleep, I started trying to make the best of the situation. When life gives you Cleo Lemon, you make lemonade. I thought back to my own words about being stuck watching teams that you’re not interested in, and I realized that I get the pleasure of watching Watt and Clowney terrorize the league. I can see if my boy Anthony Hitchens can become a starting LB in Big D, while also laughing as Romo throws yet another pick to Antrel Rolle or DeAngelo Hall. And if I want to watch some offense, there’s always NFL RedZone.

So once again, that’s the beauty of IDP leagues. Even when you have a balcony that is apparently facing the wrong direction, you still don’t need to feel compelled to jump off it.

After weeks of sleeper, busts, injuries and cuts, we’re finally here. FOOTBALL! For the first week of IDP rankings, there are not many changes from my preseason rankings. Teams change from year to year, and IDP stats tend to be less opponent-based than their offensive counterparts, so we’re left primarily with overall talent.
