I apologize for my absence the last two weeks. I had some major final exams and they kicked me in the ass. I am a better human after finishing it however; I have not seen natural light from the sun in 20 days. The doctor told me I had to wear sunglasses at all times until yesterday; the worst experience to be forced to look like a hipster. Story time! This guy from Greece, let’s call him Pat, bought a five-step ladder in Canada and had it sent to him in Greece. Because he is smart, he fell of the small ladder and subsequently sued the manufacturer and the store that sold it to him because he felt it had two defects: defective material and no warning labels. Experts deemed the ladder perfectly made and the judge told Pat that because an adult of average intelligence would know how to handle himself on said ladder there is no need for warning signs. In addition to this there are glue stains where the warning signs were, so also ripped them off. This man was then given criminal time and had to pay punitive damages. Fraud = bad. Don’t be this guy.

If you’re still reading you are likely in the finals and able to win big mulla and/or a large amounts of pride over your friends. Hopefully both. This week you need some guys who might come and give you that 15-20 point burst to push you over the edge. I’ll go over each position below. Christmas special – who are Max’s Factors this week?

If you are like me and you didn’t draft a top tier QB early, and didn’t luck out on Carson Palmer, QB has been a struggle this year. I revolved Ryan Tannehill and Tyrod Taylor the whole season. This week I can see Kirk Cousins putting up points against a struggling Philly D. According to Yahoo Sports PHI D gives up 3rd most points to fantasy QBs this season. Cousins has been playing much better since the Redskins began improving and wining some games. His weapons have improved as well and I would expect 2-3 passing TDS with 300 yards and maybe a rushing touchdown thrown in there too. He as 3 in his last 4 games.

I love James White of the Patriots this week against the Jets. Now the Jets give up the 3rd fewest points to RB’s this season, but White isn’t your average RB. He is a non rushing RB, he is a pass catching dynamo and with Revis and Cromartie manning down their WR,  and the running game with Bolden likely to have trouble, I foresee big games for both White and Gronk. White has very strong soft hands, especially for a RB and jumps with the best of them. Give me 6 catches for 80 yards and a TD, with the chance for a few points on the ground as well.

The Steelers pass game has been off the charts this past few weeks. Big Ben averages 40 passes per game this year, including the contests he hasn’t played full games in due to injuries. Give me Markus Wheaton and Martavis Bryant this week if they are available in your leagues. Both are HUGE plays this week and have been excellent this 5-6 wees. All of the Steelers big 3 receivers are on a huge tear the past month or so. I wouldn’t be surprised with 6-8 catches and 70-100 yards from both of them this week.

Give me Will Tye this week. He’s been great the past 2 weeks, with red zone TD’s both of the last 2 weeks. With ODB suspended this week I expect an uptick in his looks. He has really come on since he had to step up for Larry Donnell. I see 6 catches for 65 yards and a TD. This guy works really hard and will be on the field no matter what as he is also a top notch run blocker.

I wish you all luck in your final matches, and for everyone else baseball is starting in 3-4 months….

Tell me what you think the first round looks like in next year’s draft here on Twitter.

Going into the championship with tough choices to make after reading this.
My current lineup in standard scoring is
QB Big Ben (Bortles on the bench)
    RBs Freeman & Woodhead (played)
WRs Julius Jones, D Hopkins, & J Brown (Wheaton & Hurns both available here on in flex)
    TE Ertz (H Miller benched)
Flex Hightower (Wheaton, Hurns, Ivory & Powell are options
K Boswell (after having McMannus all year)
Def Oakland (happy with the result having dropped Jax & very little left to choose from via waivers)
What changes if any do you make?? Wheaton more valuable then Hurns or Brown or even Hightower in the Flex??

I would Keep Ben. Toss up since Bortles has been surprisingly great this year, but you can’t not start him here.

I would consider Hightower over Freeman since receptions dont count for you and a lot of his value is tied to his receiving.

Jones and Hopkins 100%. Hurns would be my last of your remaining 3 receivers. Hes banged up and hasnt been targeted much recently. Wheaton, the only thing that scares me is the chance theyll be up a ton of points and just run the ball most of the 2nd half. I probably start Wheaton but its pretty 50/50.

Flex – Hightower/Freeman/Wheaton I would consider for Flex but in non PPR, I would probably go RB.

@Max: My hurns sentence seems ambigious. I wouldnt start Hurns.

Opponent is starting Cousins tonight. I have Gronk at TE, but could flex Reed to counter the Cousins play, though in a vacuum I may prefer someone like Cooks, Aiken, Gurley or Mathews (standard scoring, 5 pt bonus at 100yd.

So, start Reed (or even Mathews) tonight, or hold and decide tomorrow on one of the others?

@Steve Stevenson: ooooo thats super tough. As I sit in my house on this day off, wearing the minion pajama pants my girlfriend got me for the holidays, i love gurley in standard leageus but im not a fan of starting him him against the seahawks. I wouldnt start matthews over cooks, not even gurley.

I would toss up Cooks and Reed, I think independantly without the hedging factor here. If cooks outperforms Reed it wont matter anyways. Reed seems safer though i think with the redzone bliss he provides for his owners in standard leagues. If you dont fear the seattle D however gurley is your man

Thanks for the insight …I think since I have Big Ben @ QB & if they take a decent lead & run clock, I sort of wanted to hedge my bets. Hurns is supposedly healthy & a full participant in practice. But I saw Brown drop 2 different TDs last week (although one was a tough catch for sure). Wheaton off waivers to keep him out of my opponent’s hands although at the time Hurns was iffy. He has a good team but weak at WR starting Green, Parker & Randle.
    I appreciate the input ….have a Happy New Year’s

    Thanks for the article Max!
Cameron artis Payne or Karlos Williams in a ppr?
Also maxx Williams or Richard Rodgers in a ppr?
Yeah tough TE decision for the finals but I’m in a deep league and there’s nothing out there any better. Maxx caught 5 of his 6 targets last week and should be in for 6+ targets as he’s the only tight end left and the Ravens will need to air it out in comeback mode

@Braun Weasleys: Karlos with a full load > Payne sharing with Wittaker.

Maxx Williams and Rodgers, really just go with your gut, never know on this kinda of choice.
