Fantasy football quarterbacks are an enigma wrapped in a riddle. A mystery wrapped in a Twinkie, filled with bacon. One of the great conundrums of our time. Many fantasy analysts will tell you to wait on QB in your home league and just scoop up some late value. It can work if you scoop up that right QB. But then your nemesis Billy Bob, who’s stoned out of his lordge and usually takes a defense in the 6th round, drafts Josh Allen with his first pick and goes on to dominate your league. There’s no justice!

Truth be told, the optimal draft strategy for quarterback—or any position—will vary drastically from league to league. League scoring, starting lineup size, bench size, moves limits, waiver budgets, the specific ADP provided on the platform your league uses, and your league-mates draft time drug usage, are all huge variables. But make no mistake, owning the top-scoring fantasy quarterback will provide you with a big advantage in any league.

In 1-QB league snake drafts, I could see grabbing Mahomes or Hurts if they fall to me in the late 2nd/early 3rd. If Mahomes, Hurts, and Allen are all off the board by the 3rd round then I’ll reach on Fields somewhere in the 3rd or 4th, with Trevor Lawrence as a backup plan. Anyway, here’s my top 30 quarterbacks for 2023 fantasy football:
