So here’s my final go in another Expert League. Scott Pianowski must really like my money the way I play this game as it’s the second league I’ll be in with hm. I covered the first one here. I drafted before the Baseball All-Star break with that one. You can tell by the post alone that I had more hair on my head and less frown wrinkles. For the most part, this league is similar in set up except that it’s a 12 teamer rather than a 14. I do also think there are some similar owners but, hey, that would require me to pay attention to other owners. Neverthewho, here’s results for my last draft for 2013 Fantasy Football…
What can I say? It happens to the best of us. I thought someone had already taken Greg Zuerlein from me. It was the end of the draft and I stream defenses anyways so I wasn’t payin THAT much attention. That said, I had the Colts in my queue for their week 1 matchup and almost threw up in my mouth a little when I realized I took Hauschka. Now who will I start at K this week?!? I should consult Piano…neverthewho! Don’t worry, we don’t have waivers until the season hits so I already picked up the Colts but I’m all about the truth, even when it hurts. I got guys I liked pretty much everywhere. Ok, not my ‘OMG, did you see that cute guy at his locker this morning? He looks delish!’ kinda ‘like’ but they’re likes nonetheless. Robert Griffin, III for $18? Yes please. Marshall for $33? Ok then. Roddy White for $20? Who am I drafting with here?!? I keed, it was a lot of good drafters, including the Piano-man himself. I even passed onto him the knowledge of what 4.20 meant in terms of birthdays. That joke went over well…but I digress, I like this one a lot for a 12 team, 4 bench play. There’s still plenty of useable talent on the FA pool so I’m sure I’ll be churning my bench if I need to. That said, I’m a bit surprised for a league that can start 4-5 RBs and 1-2 QBs I could land depth in both at minimal cost. Agree Weeden and Locker aren’t the sexiest plays but as your QB2? Not that bad. Admittedly, I made some mistakes. Cameron for $6 could’ve been Cook for $3. I didn’t realize I’d have had this much cash on hand by the end of the draft or my WR3 would’ve been Amendola ($19) or Garcon ($16). Not that I hate Givens but wouldn’t have minded if he were my WR4 given the results. Thanks, auctions, for making me question myself so much! Knowshon…if he is the starter, I’m golden. If he’s not, well I have plenty of FA plays in the sea and it gives me a chance to pick up another WR. I don’t need him, necessarily. When your bench is 4, even with a deep lineup like this, there’s usually a weekly play and considering there’s FAAB involved, I have a shot at them each week so I’m not overly concerned, especially when Montee Ball went for $14 and Moreno went for $4. I took the lesser chance there on romance, even though my date has major warts (not those kinds) and major knocks against them for fantasy purposes. Moreno had 3.8 YPC last year…tell that to Manning who could sleep soundly in his QB pocket with him in there blocking. Ah well, we will see how the season pans out but as I’ve already said, I’m not going Full Montee this year. Overall, I got a lot of accolades for getting SJax/MJD for a combined $56 and I promise you it wasn’t just me talking to myself. There was some heavy spending on RBs and that’s the one thing auction has over snake every day: you put your money where your mouth is. I don’t like paying $48 and above for any player in a 12 team and I don’t think any of the sexy RBs went for less then $44 in this draft (Foster went for $44; JC $45…that might hurt me later). Overall, I’m happy with the draft results. No word yet from Yahoo on my grade but I’ll just guess ‘D’ and be closer to right then I am wrong with how these have gone so far…
This trade is getting put through in my league…
Fred Jackson and Jermaine Gresham
for
Maurice Jones-Drew
That HAS to be veto’d right? Or somebody has to kick this guy out of the league. He drafted Michael Crabtree in the fourth round, and JACOBY JONES in the third. Now he’s giving away pretty much the only good player he drafted for Fred f’n Jackson?
I normally would let people make mistakes and just chuckle, but the guy getting MJD is the commish, who specifically brought this guy in (who none of us know but the commish). Not saying he’s cheating, but…I think he’s cheating.
You “think” he’s cheating? He’s definitely cheating.
Gotta veto that. Make sure your leaguemates are aware of this asshattery and cast their votes as well. I also wouldn’t play in a league with this guy again, certainly not one he’s running.
Fwiw, I’m in a league where return yards count the same as rushing or receiving (insane, I know), and even there Jacoby didn’t get taken until around round 8 or 9.
@Junkie Brewster: i’m in the same type of league and i took jacoby in the 7th, but probably could’ve had him in the 8-10th.
@Alex: Yeah, that doesn’t make any sense.
@Alex: Once you find out the league sucks, it ruins the season. In my baseball league, a league I’d never been in before, the three comish’s vote on trades. They let David Price and Beltre for Kuroda go thorugh. Right there I knew I was in a BS league. Ironically Karma, did NOT bite the guy in the Arse, as his team won the league’s regular season by half a game. I’d look for a new league, unless you invested real money in this thing.
@Alex: Yup, it’s a bogus move and obviously a bogus league at that point. That much is on them. However, now you know, so from here on out it’s on you if you stay in the league. I wouldn’t tolerate that crap in my league. BOUNCED!
How much did Gio Bernard go for?
@James: $17
had my last draft of the season last night, $100 buy-in, 12th pick out of 12 teams. standard 4pt qb tds. I shit you not, all 11 of the picks in front of me were rb’s, so I had to get away from my rb/rb/rb strategy, and take megatron over the likes of gore and Steven jackson. what do you think, sky?
1. (12) Calvin Johnson
2. (13) Chris Johnson
3. (36) Chris Ivory
4. (37) Daryl Richardson
5. (60) Matthew Stafford
6. (61) Ahmad Bradshaw
7. (84) T.Y. Hilton
8. (85) Stevie Johnson
9. (108) San Francisco
10. (109) Zach Sudfeld
11. (132) Aaron Dobson
12. (133) Justin Blackmon
13. (156) Marcel Reece
14. (157) Quinton Patton
15. (180) Kenny Stills
@Byron from Austin: Reached in a big way on Ivory.. Would’ve gone Lacy, D. Wilson, or top WR there.
@hooverviille: lacy and wilson were long gone there.
@Byron from Austin: Got Megatron and still came away with 4 starting RBs. Granted, they’re all RB2 types but it only takes one to hit it big and you’re looking good and you’ll be able to play matchups anyways. Love the upside at WR you have behind CJ and if none of it really pans out, the Blackmon return should be more than advantageous to you. Nice work!
@Sky:
thanks sky! yeah i’m just hoping that either d-rich or ivory have a good year. like that other guy mentioned, ivory was a slight reach, but at that draft position, he had to be taken. no fucking way in hell i’m rostering mcfadden, matthews, or murray.
Ha, I hear ya. Every draft is different. RB runs can leave you thin if you just let them happen and don’t take action. You shored it up so you did fine.
@Byron from Austin: I like your team too. Solid WR floor and upside. 4 starting RBs. I think CJ?K is 2K this year. I’d have grabbed Murray instead of Ivory but I digress… Solid.
@Byron from Austin: You’re way to heavy in the Johnson position. And you didn’t draft anything worth mentioning from the Wilson position. I recommend a trade that utilizes your depth from the Johnson position.
Start Jordy vs Niners or Decker vs Baltimore? PPR 1 pt
Different Team
Start Ryan Mathews in flex or Wes Welker? PPR. 1 pt 5 yards rushing, 1 pt 8 yards receiving
Thanks!! Great stuff.
@Matty: Thanks!
Give Mathews a shot.
@Sky: Start Jordy or Decker? 1 pt PPR
Weekly rankings on Thursdays. I’ll say Jordy for now.
WHY DOES NO ONE WANT CAM NEWTON IN THE WRITER’S RCL?
WHY ARE WE YELLING!
LOUD NOISES!
10 team standard
Only 5rb and 5wr…7bench spots
Here is the team
QB RG3
RB. Rice
RB Wilson
WR dez
WR Cobb
TE Gronk
Flex Lamar miller
DST pats
K Dawson
Bench: Tate,joque bell,garçon,a Roberts,romo,j Finley,steelers DST
Thoughts? Wasn’t sure on Gronk…not a lot of depth but like starters
Yeah minus Garçon/Romo the bench is a little thin without injuries affecting PT. that said, your startin lineup is very solid. If it stays healthy you’ve got a good looking team.
which of these wildcards should I start in my flex spot?
Montee Ball or Ahmad Bradshaw?
It’s either one of those two or a random WR on my bench like Emmanual Sanders
Think that Indy game becomes a laugher quick and Ahmad won’t get enough touches to justify his flex spot. Can give Sanders a go. I’m in wait and see mode on the Bronco backs
1st year playing in league 10 team ppr. Comments or suggestions please?
QB:Rodgers
RB:AP
RB:R. Bush
WR: Amendola
WR: Colston
WR: S. Johnson
TE: Cameron
K: Gostkowski
DEF: PIT
Bench: Freeman, Tate, L. Miller, Wallace, Givens, Fleener, GB
Solid depth at RB, though I would’ve preferred one more RB that was a starter for my bench there. Many would pan ‘dola/Colston as 1 and 2 but I think you have 2 top 12 guys there at their position. Season will prove that or not, but I like your WRs.
All in all, not a bad team at all. Should be competitive. Nice work!
Picking 9th tonight in 12-team, 0.5 PPR league, start 2 WR and a RB/WR Flex. I pretty much always go RB/RB in this league with great success, but if Megatron falls do I have to pounce? That would likely leave me with options like S-Jax, MJD, Wilson or Ridley at RB1 and praying that Gore falls to me in the 3rd (or barring that, Miller, Lacy, D. Richardson or Bernard as my RB2). Or just grab whichever of my top 8 RB falls (T-Rich? Foster?) and then grab S-Jax etc and have someone like V-Jax or Roddy as my WR1?
@Steve Stevenson: You jump on that like Kate Upton just walked in the room and said ‘the first guy who talks to me gets laid’. Megatron is a beast; you don’t turn him down at the 9th pick.
My draft was a disaster. Auto pilot somehow got involved around the 5th round. I am in terrible shape at WR. After Calvin Johnson, Golden Tate is my second best option. I do have the 2nd FA pick. I was looking at the list of WR’s available. Sidney Rice, Hartline, and Sanu seem to be the highest rated WR’s available. I see Santonio Holmes is going to play. I know its slim pickings, but do you have any suggestion on who I should try to pick up? I know the Jets are going to be horrible, but someone is going to catch the ball. Would you put any value on Jeremy Kerley?
Hartline for consistency, Sanu for upside. Don’t waste an FA waiver on it
@Sky: So I should not pick up anyone, wait a week and see who may emerge?
Yup
OK, Sky….this is my first time using your rankings in a 12 team Non PPR 4pt TD’s league with two keepers. My two keepers were David Wilson (6th rd) and K. Rudolf (9th rd). How’d I do?? (Two RB/Two WR/Flex) I had the 11th pick.
Matt Ryan QB ATL Starter –
David Wilson RB NYG Starter –
Lamar Miller RB MIA Starter –
Brandon Marshall WR CHI Starter –
Danny Amendola WR NWE Starter –
Eric Decker WR DEN Starter –
Kyle Rudolph TE MIN Starter –
Phil Dawson K SFO Starter –
Arizona Cardinals Def/ST ARI Starter –
Michael Vick QB PHI Reserve –
Pierre Thomas RB NOR Reserve –
Isaac Redman RB PIT Reserve –
Shane Vereen RB NWE Reserve –
Roy Helu RB WAS Reserve –
Johnathan Franklin RB GNB Reserve –
Brian Hartline WR MIA Reserve
That’s a solid looking squad. Would’ve preferred more RB starter depth but your lineup looks great. Nice job!
@Sky: Agree on the RB starter depth. I need more. That was only the real reason I added Redman when I did. I have tried to make up for that with quantity instead. I have to hope one of those other guys become a starter at some point.
Yeah, understandable. Good guys to have if they do become starters at least.
Who should I start as my Flex – DeAngelo, Montee, or Mendenhall?
I trust DeAngelo’s role out of those three the most; roll with him.
Added a casual league with some friends and our wives that I am drafting tonight and realized my buddy added return yardage points. Who are some targets to take advantage of that wrinkle? I think I’ll be targeting Cobb hardcore in the 2nd or 3rd.
Cobb/Sproles are good guys for that but in reality, unless it’s screwy scoring (most leagues are 25 for 1 point), it doesn’t affect things all that much.
@Sky: Yeah, this league is 10 yds/pt. Crazy. I feel like that could have a HUGE impact that not many people are going to think about. Like I said it’s a casual league and most people won’t put too much thought into it. Would be nice for the wife and I to dominate.
Gotcha. Already have Cobb as my WR8 but could see him creeping up to 6th or maybe even 5th. Sproles creeps into being a late top 12 back there. Guys like Jacoby Jones make for good bench players in that set up as well. Haven’t kept up too much with where guys will start/won’t start in terms of returning the ball. David Wilson may or may not keep that role. He’s got a lot on his plate now that he’s the sole back in NYG that Coughlin will probably play a lot.
Tavon Austin
Need some advice on a trade. 12 team, half PPR.
I have Fitzgerald as my WR1, but then it turns messy, with a choice of Mike Williams, Chris Givens, and Kenny Britt as my WR2. I’ve been offered Amendola and Miles Austin for Fitz, which would be a downgrade at WR1, but give me more options for someone to come through as my WR2.
For what it’s worth, I also need to fill a flex spot, but I expect to do so with a RB, as I’ve got Charles, Murray, Vereen, and Woodhead.
Thanks!
I don’t have a problem with Williams/Givens/Britt. Hold for now.
Can’t decide who to put in my WR3 for week 1 – Boldin, Tavon, or Kembrell Thompkins its half PPR. I know Tavon should be really great but I want to maybe wait and see. The other 2 options aren’t too appealing to me either so I’m stuck.
And do I start Daryl Rich over Lacy? I feel like the Cardinals D is underrated so they both seem to have tough matchups at least Lacy has a great offense and can get goal line work.
Thanks for the help!
Give Thompkins a shot WR3 should be about upside. Bills secondary was already suspect and now they’re dinged up.
D-Rich
Looks like my awesome question at 8:27 above was missed–what to do at #9 in a .5 PPR?
Your question was awesome. I hope my response is just as much so.
@Sky: Word–thanks. I don’t think he’ll fall, but there are some real goofs in this league, and the draft order is set up so I at least have a chance.
He’s a top 5 skill-position player and his position is inherently more trusthworthy when it comes to health then RB. He falls late in the first round, I have no problem taking him. Almost got him in the Razzball Writers league but we have smart Writers…he was nabbed just before I could get my hands on him.
Sky,
Can you rank these four in the order you would like to have them on your team…
ChrisJohnson
Steven Jackson
Dex Bryant
Jimmy Graham
I ranked these guys in my rankings…
@Mike:
Dez
Jim
CJ
don’t take SJax
You better be right about SJax. You’ve told anyone and everyone everywhere to not draft him. Gonna look silly if he performs up to his draft slot or better…GRIMEY!
@Sky: Well I stick to my guns yo! Out of them four pretty easy and no way he preforms better than where people are mistakingly drafting him. They most likely will be thanking me if they listened.
Even over CJ, though? I get hate but even the dying, fat carcass of Turner was fairly close to him in terms of value and surprisingly more consistent.
I fully expect a Grimey freak out on par with the episode if he goes off. ‘I outscore everyone drafted ahead of me, even with a 3.7 YPC average. BECAUSE I’M STEVEN JACKSON!!!!’
@Sky: Haha nice! I’m not a hater. I expect a good week one vs NO. I think CJ gets more TDs and yards plus if your league gives any bonus for long scores CJ is good for a few of em. If I’m wrong ill tip my cap.
Wow, more TDs? He only had like 6 last year, 10 total the last two and they just nabbed Greene for short yardage (read: goal line). Turner had 11 total last year alone…you really liking the Titans offense to be good this year then, I take it. TDs rarely a function of a good player, more often the function of a good offense. SJax should have 12 minimum by the end of the season. I like CJ, but he’s a HR or none kinda guy unless Locker has really figured it out or they move on to Fitzy.
But we’ve been down this road, it’ll be fun to see how it all turns out.
@Sky: Yes we have. I do see Locker improving and CJ benefiting from better OLine play. If Cj is performing than Green is non factor other than normal split like just about every back these days. I also see Atl regressing a lil and such. They play some tough run Ds. Lets pick this back up after we’ve seen a few games ha.
Agreed. Oh and I won’t weigh the NO game too heavily. They’re such a village bicyles when it comes to picking on a defense…
@Sky: exactly after SJax goes for 104 and a touch week 1 SELL HIGH!
NO HOLD TIGHT! Haha.
Ok, of course the art of buy/sell all depends on who you’re getting in return. Still my 10th back off the board in my leagues for me. If someone has a bad week 1 that I like more who gets thrown my way – say T-Rich – I won’t turn it down.
Hey Sky! Should I pickup Bilal Powell for Vereen, Hartline or Johnson?
QB Wilson, Russell
RB Jones-Drew, Maurice
RB Lynch, Marshawn
WR Hilton, T.Y.
WR Marshall, Brandon
TE Rudolph, Kyle
RB-WR-TE Vereen, Shane
Bench (RB) Jackson, Fred
Bench (TE) Gronkowski, Rob
Bench (RB-WR-TE) Hartline, Brian
Bench (RB-WR-TE) Johnson, Steve
Hold.
Got a few decisions this week, need some advice..
.5 ppr, pick 2….Redman, Bradshaw, Mendy, Ballard, Ingram
Std. Bradshaw or Mathews
1 ppr, pick 1…..Miles Austin, Thompkins, Vereen, Hartline
Thanks Sky!!
Redman/Mendy
Mathews
Vereen
hey sky, where is the link to razzball football leagues, i’m in one that drafts tomorrow, but i had a comissioner cancel a league this morning that was drafting tonight.
Look under the tab that says ‘Leagues’
@goodfold2: the canceled league was NOT a razzball league, i’m just explaining why I want to find a league that drafts either tonight or tomorrow.
@goodfold2: wow, quick response, stupid me, that was the only link i didn’t highlight before posting. Thanks.
Ok, I think I still answered your question correctly. Let me know if I’m missing something.
@Sky: you did, i was calling myself stupid for not noticing it before asking.
Sky
Ive assembled what I believe to be my best pre-season team ever in my big$ keeper league…what say you, you likey?
QB Cam
RB T-Rich
RB Spiller
RB/WR Forte
WR Cobb
WR Mike Wallace
TE Witten
WR/TE T-Gonz or Emmanuel Sanders
D Seattle
That’s a very solid team; should be competitive barring injury…you really only have 1 bench player? Seems strange…
Would you rather have Dalton or Freeman as a QB2 in a 2 QB league (10 teams)?
Same tier for me. Fairly flat on both. Dalton’s team looks a little better, I’ll say him for that reason.
would help to see the full auction prices list, or link to it somewhere if possible. also, I didn’t catch what your league scoring parameters were or the auction dollars available per team. did I miss this stuff?
Sorry, I don’t have time to break down 192 picks like that. The only thing I mentioned about the scoring setting was in reference to my first league with Pianowski when I linked to it. 12 team 0.5 PPR, $200 auction; rest is fairly standard.
@birrrdy!: Prices don’t mean much since an auction is all about timing. Make your tiers and budget how much you’re spending on RB vs QB etc.. Having money at the end is huge for bargains(and depth) but also buy the guys you really want that’s the beauty of an auction.
Who do you like in a WR-TE flex position this week? D-Jax, Antonio Gates or Golden Tate? .5 PR league. THX!
Also is it worth a waiver claim to stream Colts DST this week or roll with the Ravens?
@Sniff Test: I’d go Indy and Desean.
Agree w/Grimey
12 team 0.5 PPR league
RG3,Vick
Charles, SJax, Wilson, BGE, Redman
Fitzgerald, Amendola, Nelson, M Williams, Moore
Myers, Sudfield
Prater
Bengals
How did I do?
Assuming no flex and roster limits, I like your squad overall. Probably would’ve preferred an upside play instead of Moore as my WR5 but your starting 3 look good. If Sudfeld explodes on the scene, this team’s really going to look good. Well done.
Trade offer I’m proposing 12 team, std scoring…Here’s my squad, need a RB2 better than Ball, right?
MJD and Hartline for Marshall and Ball…Figured I should deal a WR and swing Jordy into the mix…Thoughts? Is it close?
QB Ryan
RB AP, Ball
WR Marshall, Julio
RB/WR/T Colston
TE Cook
Bench…Jordy, Ingram, Britt, Bush, Michael
I don’t like Ball to take off this year so I’d make that trade.
14 team (1 keeper), QB, 2 WB, 2 RB, TE, W/R, W/R/T, DST, K – .5/rec
I had the 7th overall pick. Not happy with how RB worked out but too many WRs with significant upside were falling… If I had it to do again, I would not have taken Brady in the 3rd. But the last week or so before the draft a lot of people in the league were chatting about QBs. I think Brady is discounted too much this year, but still wished I’d have waited. I could have taken Lamar Miller or Sproles in the 3rd. Then I screwed up by taking Vick a few rounds later to sooth my conscience of taking Brady early. Glad I feel better about that! Vick had the most upside of those still on the board at that time, but doesn’t really help my team other than trade bait… A QB point of reference – Romo was drafted in the 5th, while Eli fell to the 9th (after Cutler and Roethlisberger).
QB – Brady, Vick
WR – Demaryius Thomas, Colston, D-Jax, Edelman, Little, Patton
RB – Richardson, Ivory, Joique Bell, Christine Michael
TE – Gronk, Housler
D of the week – Cleveland
K – Hauschka

I think Bell will get more than 2nd string duty in Detroit. Chrissy Michael is in line to be my potential keeper.
@btd: Ha! Oh well…
@btd: How is michael a keeper over TRich? How does taking Vick help fix taking Brady in 3rd. Maybe I need a nap. If that’s D Rich then you botched this drafted much like your post and I’d make a trade ASAP.
@frankgrimes: It’s a keeper based on the round drafted. I kept Gronk in the 8th round this year. I typically wouldn’t keep 1st rounders. Some do, I don’t.
Taking Vick doesn’t help. That was my point. And your point. I screwed up and was emotional charged/angry at how the draft was unfolding.
It’s not D Rich. But I assume that was an attempt at humor. Thanks for being Dr. Phil, Frank.
@frankgrimes: he’d have had to draft d.thomas in the first round for that not to be t.rich. It’s def t.rich.
Ooph, yeah not getting that 3rd RB might come back to bite you, especially since you could start 4 a week if you wanted to. Think you’re right, Brady shouldn’t have been drafted; would’ve made your draft go smoother. QB is deep this year. Makes it hard to get behind drafting one in the first 5 or 6 rounds. You should see if someone out there wants Brady for an RB and take your chances with Vick.
@Sky: I can only start 3 RBs a week max (that should be a W/T not W/R – rough original post).
My best target has Roethlisberger. Think Brady for Reggie Bush is doable? Yahoo seems to think not. If I add D-Jax to the mix, then Yahoo likes it better.
@btd: Uh, not really sure what you mean about what Yahoo thinks. Go ahead and offer Brady for Bush. You’re not aiming to keep Brady, I assume; would make for a nice RB setup.
Sku,

Brandon Pettigrew Det – TE
Jermaine Gresham Cin – TE
Heath Miller Pit – TE
Also not high on Baltimore for first week D but would you drop them and play matchups every week or hold?
Pittsburgh Pit – DEF
Washington Was – DEF
I’d be a bit concerned with your RBs not from a talent standpoint but from a health history one. If they can all give you 16, I’d be surprised. Give PIT a go this week vs TEN. I’d be inclined to drop FJax for Redman so you have a bit more depth at the RB position. Redman’s a starter, might surprise. Pick up Powell as well for the what-if factor to start the year. Drop Pettigrew/Gresham. You don’t need 4 TEs.
@Sky: Yea RB’s are gone due to keepers and higher picks.
Just to recap.
You’d lose Fred Jackson for Redman
Drop Balt for Pitt this week and play matchups
Pickup Powell but who would you drop?
I only have Cook for TE but Pett and Gresh are available if you view that as an upgrade in a PPR league?
Ah, misread my bad. Just FJax for Redman for now.
I’m trying to upgrade at receiver. Who would you rather have, Andre Johnson or Desean Jackson. And is this trade fair for either one?
Greg Jennings and Bernard Pierce
Thanks yo.
@CramYourCatcherQuestionUpYourCramhole: Or you can tell me that Jennings will be solid, because I’ve read NOWHERE that anyone likes him this year. And my faith is waning because of it…
You trying to trade for either AJ or DJ with that group? Just trying to make sure I understand you. If so, you can try for AJ but probably won’t get him. Don’t know if that 2 for 1 for DJ would be that much better. Like Jennings as a low ceiling WR3 this year. He’s not bad, just depends who you put around him.
@Sky: Yeah trying to upgrade over Jennings. He’s my WR2 now, with Marshall and Givens. I know I prob won’t get either but I’ve got a couple of Ravens homers I can pick on. Thanks man.
No prob, take advantage if you can.
Sky, I did ok in my first ever RB draft last night, but I made one fatal error. I drafted 3 WR’s in a row and ended up missing out on my 3rd RB (for my flex spot). I ended up with Redman in my flex. After a few weeks he’s gonna be useless.
my WR3 is Jordy Nelson. My backup WRs are Patton, Wheaton and Britt. I feel pretty comfortable Jordy (or Colston) for an upgrade RB at my flex. Can you name a few RB’s that you see as equal trade value for either Jordy or Colston?
I think I may end up having to play a WR at my flex spot…which is against my religion. Looks like I’m going to H-E-Double Hockey Sticks
You’re on the wrong side of the trade there. You’re not gonna get enough in return for Colston. Try for high upside/risky RBs with Jordy. Check in on DMC/Mathews/Murray. Can try for Ahmad or Ivory, too. Just really depends what the other owner wants.
@Sky: Yeah. I should’ve just drafted Mathews with that pick. But nope, I got all excited for Jordy time! I did manage to get AP and MJD with my first two picks though. So I can’t really complain. I got RG3 for the second time in as many leagues.
I’ll try some trade offers, can’t hurt.
Thanks for the advice Sky!
@Shake N Bacon: If you’re lucky one of your WR will have big week 1 and you might be able to make a swap for a RB that didn’t. Look for a RB with a bad match up that tanked.
@frankgrimes: Good idea. I like the way you think Mr. Grimes
I have RG3 everywhere this year…seriously…$18?!? He was the cheapest top 12 QB by far this year when it’s all said and done based on what he has done. It’s crazy…
@Sky: I’m on that RG3 train as well. Ten QBs cost more in my 2qb auction league. how could he not produce damn fools!
Yeah, I think the fear over his injury is holding people back. Dude was a top 3 QB last year in most leagues…how can you fight taking him? He’s worth the risk for sure.
@Sky: Yeah I was going to say that you got some good deals in your Auction. RGIII for $18, Roddy White for $20, Ivory for $8 and the DR for $13.
I had my third draft last night and RG3 is my QB in that league too. Yahoo has him ranked fairly low, which I think helps him fall.
Yeah, but he’s not ranked below some guys like Romo/Stafford/Luck….at least I don’t think he is and all 3 of those guys went for well over $20. I think even Michael Vick went for more. How crazy is THAT?
I found it really odd what I got in terms of value. It was like everyone put blinders on and forgot there were other fish in the sea. Seriously, if I’d landed ‘dola for the amount he went for, I’d be feeling so good right now…
Sky,
I’ve been putting out feelers for Drew Brees in my 10 team, 6 pt/passing TD, QB,RB,RB,WR,WR,RB/WR,TE league where I’m currently fielding Cam and Vick as QB. Love Cam and very intrigued by Vick’s upside but, in a 6 pt/passing TD league, I’m thinking Brees is as good as gold. Just for full disclosure, my team is this:
QB: Cam, Vick
RB: Spiller S Jax, D. Murray, Ivory, Bryce Brown, Andre Brown (soon to go on the IR)
WR: Marshall, V Jax, Garcon, Bowe
TE: Cook
K: Walsh
DEF: St. Louis
I had initially sent out a Cam/Andre Brown (before the injury) for Brees offer to a team currently fielding this:
QB: Brees
RB: Chris Johnson, Sproles, L.Miller, D. Richardson, Hillman
WR: Megatron, Wayne, Nicks, S. Johnson, Givens, Broyles
TE: Olsen
He had Cam last year, loves him, and is definitely receptive for a reconciliation. He countered with a Brees for Cam/Ivory offer. I love Ivory this year but thinking my receiver corps is strong enough to hold down the flex during Murray’s inevitable absences. I’m strongly thinking about pulling the trigger but need a set of outside eyes…
If you really want him, you could send that trade. I don’t think you have to but it’s not a terrible trade…
Hi…first time football question…need a TE…Housler, Gresham, Celek, or Juluis Thomas? Thanks !
Stream for this week: try Celek.
@Chris: Thomas. People been saying there won’t be enough targets for him but he will get some balls thrown to him in red zone. Last year TE targets were split this year (for now ) he is the man. Remember how manning relied on Dallas Clark.
Hey Sky & and whoever else is on here…
So I’m in a league that’s drafting in an hour and 15. Need some advice. All the scoring settings are standard yahoo, except passing touchdowns are worth 6 rather than 4 and interceptions are -1 rather than -2. Would this affect your draft strategy at all? Enough to try to grab a top QB in round 1/2?
Thanks!
@Comatose: no way wait as long as you can take it for a QB. where you pick?
RB/RB is always best but depending on where your at/who is there I could see going RB/WR.
And whatever you do don’t take SJax.
@frankgrimes: Thanks. I know Sky is high on SJax. Did I miss something?
@Comatose: Nah we just have differing opinions on his value this year. He has him ranked like 10 I have him lower. If you started out with a TRich/Wilson combo then go best WR then Gronk you’d possibly dominate your league just sayin.
Agree w/Grimey: wait
Chances Michael Cox gets some goal line touches for the Giants?
I’m leaning minimal right now. Think this is Wilson’s opportunity to prove himself. If he fails, then I’ll start looking at the GL sitch in NYG.
@Sky: Word. I’m pretty convinced he struggles to prove himself as an every down back. His fumblitis and poor pass protection is gonna land him in Coughlins dog house in a hurry. And this coming from a Hokie. Mark my words!
Oh I’m completely on board with you. Just don’t think we see those chinks in the armor week 1. It’s also why I liked Andre coming into the season so much.
@Sky: Right on, yeah, probably not Week 1 as there’s no immediate threat to him. But it’s coming.
TRUTH
Trade help, please!
12 team, h2h standard scoring.
Romo
T richardson
D Murray
Dez Bryant
Mike Wallace
Gronk (JOrdan Cameron)
Chris Ivory
Bench: Stevie Johnson, Emmanuel Sanders, Isiah Pead, Vick and Jacquizz Rogers
Which side:
Dez Bryant, Demarco Murray and Emanuelle Sanders
or
CJ Spiller, Randall Cobb and Miles Austin
Thanks!
Spiller side.
What do you think about Powell or Moreno in a 0.5 ppr?
Moreno
@Sky: what about Joique or Moreno? I’m pissed I wasn’t paying attention and someone dropped L’eveon and I missed an opportunity to snag him. Stupid family trips!
Moreno. Pick up guys who don’t need an injury to be declared the starter
Alright Sky, I wasn’t going to ask you to evaluate my team, but this team is stressing me out haha and I need your input. 14 team ppr with all my buddies (1 of 5 leagues I’m in this year)
QB – Wilson (5)
RB – Martin (1)
RB – MJD (2)
WR – Hilton (6)
WR – Britt (7)
WR – V. Brown (8)
TE – Gronk (3)
FLEX – Ivory (4)
OP – Hartline (9)
D/ST – Colts
Bench – J. Cameron (11), P. Thomas (12), F. Davis (13), Larod S-H (W), K. Wright (W), Q. Patton (W)
I realize I reached big for Gronk. We drafted this league early, like 2-3 weeks ago, and I was going by your rankings (not saying it’s your fault in any way shape or form). I definitely would have gone with a WR1 there now. Had to take Wilson in the 5th because guys were drafting QBs in the 1st (Peyton, Brees, Rodgers) and after Wilson there wasn’t much left besides Romo. Still, wish I would’ve waited and grabbed a QB late, but everyone drafted backup QBs in this league, so I’m looking at like Geno Smith on the wire. Anyway, do you think I stand a chance in this league or should I try to make some deals? I feel like I probably have the best RB group in the league, but obviously my WRs are weak and I really need Gronk to come back strong, as well as a big year from Wilson.
Yeah you don’t have a bonafide WR1 there but you have plenty of talent/upside at the position. Really only need one of those guys to step up to top 15 status – Britt has shown he can do this – and you’ll be fine. I like this team even with the early Gronk. For a 14 teamer you’re always deficient somewhere. Think you did fine.
@Sky: Thanks man, I appreciate it!
No prob Pope!
Ok just finished up my 12-teamer. Biggest regrets- meant to take Lamar Miller and got Ryan Matthews by accident. Didn’t look up Chris Ivory’s status before drafting him. With such uncertainty, I had to grab Bilal Powell and Woodhead. How did I do?
QB- RGIII
RB- Doug Martin
RB- Matthews
WR- Demariyus
WR- Mike Wallace
TE- Graham
FLEX- Bilal Powell
K-Suisham
DEF- Ravens
BENCH- Ivory, Stevie Johnson, E. Sanders, Woodhead, Rivers
@Comatose: And to follow up, would you start Stevie in the Flex week 1? Would you drop BAL D (got them late) for a streamer like DET v. Min or IND v. Oak?
Nah go with either Powell or Ivory there. I’d still lean Ivory until I heard more then depth chart chatter.
Most defenses go late. That’s why they’re streamable. Pick up the Colts
Graham drafting usually leads to some tough choices later. Only news about Ivory has been depth chart nonsense. They didn’t bring him in to back up Bilal, he’ll be a buy low candidate week 2 if people are this scared. I think this team looks fine minus the Ivory worry pick :)
@Sky: What are your thoughts on Matthews as my RB2?
I still like Ivory as your RB2 so I don’t mind Mathews as your RB3 :)
@Sky: Haha, ok thanks. You da man! Unless you’re a woman. Sky is a little ambiguous. Either way!
I’m the Pat from SNL of Fantasy Analysts!
Just had draft with my hometown guys
Espn 10 team standard
5rb 5wr 7bench spots
Not sure how it looks..here goes
QB romo
RB spiller,Wilson,lacy,Bernard,joque bell
WR Dez,garçon,Gordon,Myles Austin
TE Gronk,Cameron
DST pats and bengals
K. Dawson
Need your thoughts!!! Thanks
Good looking team. Some would say downright sexy. Nice work!
Thanks!
Had 5th pick….took spiller over Charles ,rich and McCoy
Waited as long as possible for QB..almost got stuck…wanted romo late..
Lacy or Bernard in flex this week?
I’m leaning Bernard as lacy has San Fran?
Think bell will be valuable…bush always gets hurt and can’t run thru line
Bush is a bit more durable then people give him credit for but yeah Bell is talented. That’s why I like him.
Probably would’ve taken Charles but RB is deep this year in terms of defined starters. Hard to quibble with the first 7-10 off the board
Thanks for the advice on Megatron above–he fell to 9 and I grabbed him, then T-Rich of all people was still there at 16. I got drunker after that, but after 2 picks I felt pretty good.
Bottom of the roster tinkering, 0.5 PPR. With Wilson at QB with a week 12 bye, do I even carry a backup? Grabbed Big Ben in the 13th because he was the last guy in my 4th tier and I liked the value, but it seems there are useful bodies on waivers (Bradford, Freeman, etc.) if I need them. Also, my WR4 is Randle (we start 2, and I’ll have a RB at Flex, so no biggie)–I like him, but guys like Hopkins, Patterson and Sudfeld (I have Witten, but on the off chance Sudfeld really does become Hernandez lite, he’d at least have trade value) are available. Should I just go to bed, or make some moves?
Nice! You don’t need a backup QB. No reason to hold onto a guy you’ll only use one or two times. Stream as needed. Drop for Hopkins.
so my league runs waivers thursday morning…..im in a 10 team league no prr, 6pts for passing td. There are only two wrs and a flex, i have 5 wrs and i was thinking of dropping blackmon. the best available rbs are turbin, bell/leshore, joseph randle/philip tanner, johnathan franklin/james starks, or i was going to add a qb as insurance for michael vick, most likely ej manuel or tannehill for upside. leaning towards qb as rb is pretty slim pickings, thanks for all the great posts.
throw in hillman, but im 5th in waivers so i probably wont get the “starting rb” for denver.
You don’t need to draft a backup QB. Just pick one up when you need one. One QB leagues you’re just wasting a roster spot. Just hold for now.
@Sky, how’d I make out?
10 teams, .5 PPR, QB/RB/RB/WR/WR/Flex/TE/K/D. Had the 2nd pick.
QB: RGIII, Eli Manning
RB: Martin, R. Bush, Mendenhall, Woodhead, P. Thomas
WR: Marshall, Amendola, Colston, Jennings, E. Sanders
TE: Finley, Davis
K: Janikowski
D: Pats
Better than a D?
Very good WR depth. But that adds to a bit of a questionable RB depth. Team looks good though. I assume you can only carry 5 RB and WR?
So I just finished my 12 team ppr auction. It’s a 2rb, 3wr, and one flex league. I never been involved in one like this where after everyone drafts their 10 starting spots, the 8 bench spots are drafted in snake standard format. It was my first time in this kind of draft and think i made out well. Thoughts on glaring weaknesses or areas for possible future trade
Qb Brady
Rb Martin
Rb Ridley
Wr dez Bryant
Wr Nelson
Wr Tompkins (new England)
Flex Daryl Richardson
Te Rudolph
K gostkowaki
Def ravens
Bench: Pryor, Julius Thomas, Blackmon, hopkins, Dobson, little redman, bilal Powell
drafted another team, this one a free 14 team non-PPR with 1 anything other than qb flex, 2 rb’s, 2wr’s, 1 te.
1 Peterson(first time i’ve ever drafted first)
28. Wilson (computer loved him here (value at POS software))
29. MJD (can start 3 RB’s)
56. Luck (If i don’t grab QB here i don’t get a good one, this is 14 teamer)
57.amendola (wanted Nelson here, but computer had them close, software at espn timed out)
84.d.rich (even though I need WR/TE computer liked the overall value)
85. m.williams
112.Cook (computer was right, got same level of TE i wanted)
113.givens (didn’t intend on getting this many rams or ex-rams, could’ve had v.brown here instead)
140. woodhead (last remotely useful RB left)
141.Dalton (computer told me too, backup QB probably more important with 14 teamer, and 2nd year QB with Luck)
168. Computer timed out and grabbed A.Brown RB and
169. Bullock (these 2 picks kept me from grabbing fred davis and DHB here, which lead me to eventually get worse DEF than I wanted)
196. Patterson (upside was all that was out there)
197. sanu (same as above)
224. Ind DEF (great matchup week 1 against OAK, could also get MIA or KC here)
We don’t have IR slot, so should i drop A.Brown for any of H.Miller/S.Taylor (the only possibly useful RB out in waivers)/fasano/avant/cooper/crabtree (could stash till he’s back as a top 10 WR in like week 13 or whatever), or just simply grab another DEF for double streaming (KC,MIA,NYJ,SD,ATL)
Just did a 10 team PPR auction league – how did I do? My starting WR’s are old but should have some up and comers from the bench.
QB: M.Ryan
RB: Martin
RB: Bush
WR: Andre Johnson
WR: S.Smith
Flex: Vereen
K: Gostowski
Def: Texans
Bench: Luck, C.Shorts, J.Gordon, T.Smith, D.Richardson, Redman
Yeah, it’s a good thing you nabbed Shorts. PPR, it’s nice to have your second WR catch close to 80. Don’t think you’re going to get that from either Smith this year. I’m assuming there are roster restrictions and that’s why you drafted Luck (5RB/5WR). Redman is a nice pick up if Le’Veon is gone for longer than expected. It’s a solid looking squad, gives you the opportunity to play matchups. Should compete.
@Sky: Thanks for the advice Sky. I got offered R.White/Mathews for my Martin, but I don’t think that’s enough value for Martin. Other team doesn’t have very good RB or QB. Would you counter with my Martin/Luck for AJGreen and Mathews or Bernard? Or just hold with what I’ve got. He also has Megatron but not sure he’d part ways with him.
I have The Muscle Hamster as my #1 this year. I’m not taking a breakdown trade like that for him. If he offered Megatron and Gio, I might consider or even Megatron and Matthews..
Hey Sky,
Had our draft last night. 12 team ESPN two keepers…can you let me know what you think:
QB-Vick
RB-MJD (keeper)
RB-Chris Johnson
WR-Fitzgerald (keeper)
WR-Demarius Thomas
Flex-Eddie Lacy
TE-Gronkowski
D-Colts
K-Zuerlein
BE-J Gresham
BE-Deandre Hopkins
BE-Knowshon Moreno
BE-Brian Hartline
BE-Jacquizz Rodgers
BE-Marcel Reece
BE-Andre Brown (last pick)
We have some serious bye week problems at week 9, but hopefully we will alleviate those through trade
Thanks!
That’s a very solid starting lineup when Gronk comes back. Little thin on the bench in terms of upside, though, outside of Hopkins. That said, if Moreno is the starter before long, you’re going to look very good. Bye weeks…meh, your roster will change enough by that time it won’t matter. Or maybe you’re 8-0 and that week won’t matter that way. I wouldn’t be too worried.
Hey Sky… Great work as always… just wondering what your opinion is on this. I drafted Gresham really late as a backup TE… Now I’m reading reports of Tyler Eifert (Bengals 1st round pick) looking really good in training camp. I know your most recent rankings have Gresham as higher ranked, but do you think Eifert ends up with the starting job fairly soon and possibly ends up being a sleeper this season?
@Willy: Thanks Willy!
Yeah, in my rankings I described Gresham as someone I wouldn’t draft (sorry, the fantasypros vs my writeup rankings always differ because…well, they don’t get their shizz together in time for me to do rankings).
I’ve heard reports that Gresham has been working on his blocking and that Eifert has looked good in the passing game. We might see more 2-TE sets with Eifert slowly taking over as the passing TE in that offense. At TE, I don’t usually draft a backup one – unless I have Gronk – so I’d rather take a shot at upside on my bench if I do. Go Eifert.
Someone told me to ask you….is there a section on this site with a blurber that discusses betting games ATS? Or is that maybe a forum thread?
ATS? Sorry, I’m not a gambling man but We have a co-owned post that will come out every Thursday this year – starting this week – that covers betting. I think it’s suicide pools but maybe I’m wrong. You could hit them up in the comments when it goes live, though. 10 am PST tomorrow.
@CramYourCatcherQuestionUpYourCramhole: it’s a weekly, but i forget which day it’s out. I think it may be sat.
We’ve moved it up to Thursdays. Heard last year there was some timing issues with when people bet (I don’t bet so I don’t know).
@Sky: Ha, yeah, Against The Spread. It’s cool, I’ll keep an eye out.
Ah ok. Yeah I tried learning from Josh last year…it didn’t take, apparently.
I’m in a 12-team keeper PPR league, first pick overall. My two keepers are AP and Trent, so my first real pisk is #25, then 48 and 49.
Sproles is someone I just loev to have but know he won’t be there at 48, based on already having AP and Trent, would you rather take Sproles at 25, or best available WR like Fitz?
If I go Sproles then I’m aiming for Cecil, T.Y, Pierre-type players.
If I go Fitz, then I’d aim for Lacy or Gio Bernard and one or two of thee recievers above.
Any advice?
I’d go the Fitz route
14 teamer non-PPR with 1 flex (any non-QB) 2 WR/2 RB/1QB 4 pts for TD throws.
Luck/Dalton (if i had more established QB I wouldn’t grab backup, nor if it was 12 teamer)
Peterson/Wilson/MJD/D-Rich/Woodhead/A.Brown (computer timed out and drafted him)
amendola/m.williams/givens/patterson/sanu
cook
Ind DEF
Bullock
1. should i drop A.Brown (NYG) for any of Fasano/H.Miller (TE depth)/S.Taylor (last possibly useful RB)/avant/cooper/crabtree (stash, but no IR spot) or backup streaming DEF (KC,MIA,ATL,SD,NYJ)
2. should I drop Dalton for any of the above or any of Weeden/Locker/Smith/Foles/Cousins
@goodfold2: sorry, meant to cut everything after question 2, i had copy/pasted, forgot to delete after. The last section would just repeat question 1.
Hold. Wouldn’t make any sense to drop A. Brown because you don’t have an IR spot to pick up guys you’re not going to start any time soon or who themselves aren’t playing (Miller/Crabtree).
Sky – please let me know what you think of my 10 teamer from the 9 spot:
Q: Kapernick (8th round too good to pass up)
R: Richardson
R: McCoy
W: Fitz
W: Cobb
W: T.Smith
TE: Olson (12th round)
B: Lacy
B: Givens
B: D. Richardson
B: V. Brown
B: Blackmon
B: Q.Patton (late round flyer)
@poop: non-ppr BTW
Not gonna lie, in a non-PPR, I’d marry this team. Really solid top to bottom. Givens is gonna be a good one this year. Well done.
My league is 12-team .5PPR. I have trade questions that kinda hinge on oneanother so I will try not to make this too confusing. If you can answer each that would be great.
1) I was offered RGIII for Garcon straght-up. Based on the team I have and positions we play, should I take this deal?
2) Should I trade one of my bench RB’s for Steve Smith? If so, in what order would you trade them?
3) Would the answer to #1 change if I did trade one of my bench RB’s for Steve Smith?
QB: Eli Manning
RB: Forte
WR: Dez Bryant
WR: AJ Green
RB/WR: S. Jax
WR/TE: Garcon
DST: Ravens
K: Prater
BN: G. Bernard
BN: R. Mathews
BN: D. Richardson
BN: S. Vereen
BN: M. Austin
BN: J. Gordon
BN: B. Hartline
BN: J. Alshon
1) Yes please and thank you. I love Garcon but you should be starting one of your RBs in that slot.
2) Not a chance. Hold onto them
3) Not in a million years. Steve Smith is a WR3 this year. You’re starting 2 WR1s and can start 3 solid backs a week. No need. You look really primed for a run with RG3 at the helm.
@Sky: Thanks for the feedback! Actually I can only start a maximum of 2 RB’s each week. The other flex spot is a WR/TE.
That’s why I was considering trading a bench RB to get Steve Smith as a replacement.
If I go and trade Garcon, which bench WR should I then start in his place? Austin, Gordon, Hartline or Jeffrey?
Hey Sky, curious what you think of my team – picked 10th in a 12-teamer. I’m a fantasy baseball guy but I’m trying football this year, so no idea how it went:
QB Russell Wilson
RB Steven Jackson
RB Jones-Drew
WR Megatron
WR Cobb
RB/WR Stevie Johnson
TE Gresham
K Bailey
D/ST Dolphins
Bench – QB Tannehill, RBs Ivory, Franklin, Thomas, WRs Hilton, Hartline, TE Davis
Any suggestions right of the bat?
You’re a bit thin at RB; not really keen on Franklin/Thomas but injuries may make that play out ok. That said, with Ivory at your flex position, your starting lineup is pretty stellar minus your TE. Move Davis into your TE spot. You won’t be using Gresham much. Who’s available at RB on waivers?
@Sky: Felix Jones, Reece, Powell, Stephens-Howling, Battle, Daniel Thomas, Ryan Williams, Turbin, Benny Cunningham are the top-rated guys according to ESPN…
@Jon: Gotcha…meh…maybe LSH if it’s a PPR.
celek or J.thomas at TE week 1?
@Aubrey Plaza’s Pillow: Celek. Please post followups on todays rankings posts.
would you give up Garcon or Lacy for Stafford? Its a 12 team ppr and I have Big Ben as my QB
my roster:
big ben
cobb
garcon
mccoy
lacy
davis
vareen
bench: ty hilton, michael floyd, montee ball, ben tate, vincent brown, woodhead
QB waivers are cutler, bradford, smith, schaub, freeman, rivers, weeden, tannehill…
@bill: fred davis not VD
You don’t have the RB depth to trade Lacy. Garcon is ok. Would give it a week to see what you have, though, from those QBs on waivers. Maybe just stream a bit and play matchups, might be more worth your time.
