Week 4 Fantasy Football Trade Targets

Trade For…

Quarterback: Jordan Love

Three quarterbacks have had at least 20 fantasy points each of their three starts this season; Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert and… Jordan Love, who is currently QB4. He’s done this without Christian Watson and did not have Aaron Jones in Week 3. Love is #1 among quarterbacks in the following categories: passing touchdowns, protection rate, adjusted yards per attempt, fantasy points per drop back and receiver yards after catch per target. He’s playing at a very high level and hasn’t had his top pass catcher. I’d rather have Love than Justin Fields.

Running Back: Zack Moss

Moss is RB6 in PPRPPG and RB13 overall in PPR. He’s scored over 20 fantasy points in each of his two starts. This won’t last long, assuming Jonathan Taylor returns as a Colt, but enjoy it while you can. Moss has the highest snap share and opportunity share in his starts among running backs this year. He’s 8th in fantasy points per game and 2nd in route participation. Until Taylor returns, Moss has no competition, and the Colts are feeding him. We all need RBs. Moss might be the best option for the price tag. Very few trust him in general. Worth a lowball offer or trading depth.

Wide Receiver: Adam Thielen

Thielen is WR9 in PPR. He’s healthy and playing five years younger than his age. Thielen is somehow 1st in contested catches and 2nd in slot snaps among wide receivers. The Panthers can’t seem to get DJ Chark or their younger pass catchers going, and Miles Sanders is basic. While healthy, Thielen is the clear top option in the offense, and even Andy Dalton was able to feed him to WR3 last week. His next three opponents are MIN, DET and MIA – all favorable matchups that should lead to CAR needing to throw and throw often. Give me Thielen instead of DJ Moore.

Tight End: Evan Engram

Here we go again. Engram is playing games with our hearts. He’s TE4 and looks great. He leads all tight ends in deep targets, yards after the catch and juke rate. He’s third in targets, receptions and receiving yards. We know he’s athletic, and it’s nice to see him continuing his connection with Trevor Lawrence we saw blossoming toward the end of last season. Y’all already know I’ve moved on from Kyle Pitts, but I’d also like Engram over Darren Waller until Daniel Jones figures it out.

Trade Away…

Quarterback: Geno Smith

Geno is playing well enough to win games but not good enough to be starting for your fantasy team. He’s 29th in air yards per attempt, which is odd, considering he’s got two of the best deep threats in the NFL with DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. Smith has thrown only 103 passes which is 18th, with just five of those being deep ball attempts (20+ air yards). The Seahawks only run 33.5 pass plays per game which is 19th in the league, and Geno’s protection rate is 29th overall. His wide receivers are getting less than two yards of separation per target, and he’s got only eight carries on the season. He was fun for eight games last year, but trade him for Brock Purdy or Jordan Love.

Running Back: Josh Jacobs

If you’ve followed my work over the last four years, you know I’ve been fading Jacobs the entire time. I crushed last year. I get it. He was also the only player on the team half the season and happened to score double-digit touchdowns. Opportunity is everything… unless you’re not efficient. The Raiders run only 21.5 plays per game which is 28th in the league. On those runs, Jacobs is 19th in carries, 42nd in rushing yards, 54th (!!!) in fantasy points per opportunity and 31st (!!!) in fantasy points per game. He does do well in the receiving game, but he’s got just 10 receptions on 24 routes run, adding up to 3.6 yards per touch (run + receiving) which is 41st among running backs. I’d rather have Jahmyr Gibbs, James Cook and Zack Moss.

Wide Receiver: DJ Moore

This is not his fault. Fields looks poor. However, that also means Moore does too, sitting at WR42 in PPR with 11.3 PPRFPPG. Ready for this…? Moore is ranked 63rd in targets, 63rd in target share, 91st in target rate, 69th in air yards, 68th in ADOT, 49th in fantasy points per game and 70th in fantasy points per route run. None of those are user error. He’s not working with quality quarterback play, and until he is, he won’t be starting for my fantasy team. I’ll take Tutu Atwell, Tank Dell, Zay Flowers and Jordan Addison over Moore right now.

Tight End: Dalton Schultz

Not many folks thought that last year’s TE8 would be the second-highest ranked “Dalton” through three weeks this season. Schultz has seven receptions on 14 targets for 47 yards without a touchdown in three games. Those measly numbers land him at TE39 in PPR. The most frustrating part is that he’s literally running the most routes among tight ends, with 78 in three weeks. They’re just not throwing him the ball. I’m not sure, as I blame them with teammates Nico Collins and Tank Dell going off so far. Schultz is fine and can be a streamer, but he’s not in a consistent role as he was in Dallas and can’t be relied on weekly. I’d rather roster Jake Ferguson, Luke Musgrave and Tyler Higbee.
