With the first week of the season fast approaching, let’s take a look at some matches that might help you to a week 1 victory. Let’s go, good luck, and most importantly have fun!
First up, Chicago’s Darnell Mooney going against Charvarius Ward (49ers) who came over from the Chiefs. Ward was removed from the injury report Wednesday and is said to be ready for Sunday’s game. Ward allows 14 yards per reception and is known to let deep balls get past him. So we have to ask the question, will the team change affect Ward’s play? With no real competition for targets in Chicago, Mooney will be Fields’ go-to guy. Mooney had 1,055 yards and 4 touchdowns last season. Can fields make that second-year leap and get Mooney the ball more? I think so.
This is one of my favorites. Mike Williams against Anthony Averett or Rock Ya-Sin. Averett, who came from the Ravens, allowed a little over yards per catch 14 yards per catch. Ya-sin came over from the Colts. He allows almost 10 yards per reception and has only had 2 interceptions in his career. With one of the best quarterbacks throwing to you (Herbert), the physical size of Williams, and a divisional game on the line, that usually racks up plenty of points. When these 2 teams met in January, Williams had 119 yards and 1 touchdown. This is a no-brainer for me, and I will be putting Williams in my lineup with confidence.
In Arizona Marquise Brown going against Rashad Fenton (Chiefs) is a very intriguing matchup to me. Brown hasn’t had a touchdown since week 7 last season. That’s about to change. Can Murray and brown recreate the chemistry they once had at Oklahoma? That’s the hope. With Hopkins suspended, Moore out, and Kirk going to a different team, this will be Murray’s #1 target. Fenton is only the starter because Ward left, he averages almost 9 yards a reception. There will be plenty of targets for Brown with the Chiefs’ secondary not as it once was. Last season Brown had 113 yards and 1 touchdown in their meeting. This is an easy clear-cut choice. Brown should be in your lineup this Sunday with no hesitation.
In Seattle, Russell Wilson and the Broncos will battle it out in our first Monday night game. Obviously, there is tension between Wilson and Seattle, and he definitely has something to prove. Wilson has made it clear he wants to throw the ball more, and Denver is going to let him. Mike Jackson, Coby Bryant, and Tariq Wooley will have the task of covering Sutton and Jeudy. It’s safe to say the cornerback situation in Seattle is not good. Jackson has taken a total of 29 snaps in 3 years, Bryant and Wooley are rookies. Sutton has been a good receiver with not-so-good quarterbacks, Wilson could be the missing piece to take Sutton to that next level. Sutton and Jeudy combined for 2! touchdowns last season, they could put up more than that Monday night. The upside on these 2 receivers could be a game changer for your fantasy team. This game has been hyped up like mad, let’s hope it lives up to it.
