The Oakland Raiders are actually making some decent decisions recently. The signing of Jason Campbell may be the surest sign that Al Davis has passed into the next world. Campbell was coming on last year even with an awful offensive line. I’m not going to put a bow on a rubber turd and say happy birthday, but compared to the next guy in this roundup that rubber turd is looking like Godiva. Campbell will upgrade every offensive position in Oakland. He knows how to get the ball to a good tight end so Zack Miller should finally have a shot at getting into the end zone more than once or twice. The running back sitch is still hard to decipher, but whoever gets the starting nod should have a better shot at success.

For fantasy players the draft is a scary time where we sit in front of our TVs hoping our players aren’t going to be pushed out by the recently drafted and probably overpaid rookies. But there are also NFL ready payers that, if they get picked by the right team, have a great chance of being fantasy studs quickly. Let’s take a look at some of the most fantasy relevant rookies:
Ryan Mathews – Though he sounds like a character from Boy Meets World he has landed in the best situation for a rookie, at least fantasy-wise and that’s the only wise we care about. The San Diego Chargers found themselves without a running back who could handle 20 carries a game and short yardage, and Mathews fit that bill. He has good vision and fits the run blocking scheme in SD and will have less decrepit body parts than LT who still had a decent year in their potent offense. Darren Sproles was never going to be the main back in SD so his fantasy value won’t change much. Mathews becomes fantasy relevant as of right now.

It will be difficult for the Steelers to get anywhere close to Roethlisberger’s long term value since teams will be thinking of next season when they won’t have their starting douche-bag quarterback for the first 4-6 weeks of the season. Roethlisberger is a two time SB winner and in the prime of his career all while being a douche bag, which is a multi-tasking nightmare!
Please, blog, may I have some more?National Football Post columnist Matt Bowen was gracious enough to answer a few questions for our crazy little blog. He played strong safety in the NFL from 2000-06 with the St. Louis Rams, Green Bay Packers, Washington Redskins and Buffalo Bills. You should follow him on Twitter because he’s a good guy and has great insight.
Please, blog, may I have some more? The NFL seems to want us to stay interested all off season and since I already was, I appreciate the effort. Next we have a three hour show Tuesday on NFLN that gives us the schedule for next season and then there’s the NFL Draft which will be dragged out for 3-4 months. So, stay tuned, the party never ends.

His attitude will scare off some teams, but his huge reception totals will give a lot of coaches and GM’s selective amnesia. There are plenty of teams who could use him, 32 to be exact, but a few pop out to me.

I’m just listing them so you don’t have to really think about it too much when you are drafting your dynasty team. Kickers can play until they’re Morten Anderson old, so age isn’t a huge concern, but it is a bit of one. Also, the year to year leader board changes so much for kickers that it’s almost impossible to think dynasty type long term. I can’t bring myself to write blurbs about kickers, but I might sprinkle a few in there for seasoning.
Please, blog, may I have some more?Santonio Holmes is now a New York Jet. He was traded for some used sweat pants and a fifth round pick. Rex Ryan seems to be assembling an All Pro team for next season with Cromartie, L.T., possibly Jason Taylor and now Holmes supplementing the already stacked team that made it to the AFC Championship. This hurts Holmes’ value somewhat since Cotchery and Edwards will also need their targets and the Jets are a run first team with Shonn Greene and L.T., but he is absolutely the best receiver on the Jets right now.
Please, blog, may I have some more? The McNabb trade is still all the buzz, which made buzz-kill Bud Selig unhappy when he turned to ESPN and saw that they weren’t incessantly talking about the Red Sox/Yankees game. So I think the NFL should stage some sort of big trade to coincide with every “big” MLB game just to make Bud Selig’s nether regions pucker up.
Please, blog, may I have some more?Donovan McNabb has been traded to the Washington Redskins for the 37th pick in this year’s draft along with a 3rd or 4th round pick in next year’s draft depending on his performance or lack there of. And with that, we have a big shift in the fantasy football tectonic plates and no, it’s not Jamarcus Russell falling into the Pacific, he is somehow still the Raiders’ “QB.” The aftershocks of this trade will be felt for a long while, so let’s see if we can foretell just how they will be felt, shall we?
