So we’ve gone through picks 1-4 and 5-8 and now we tackle 9-12. I’ve always liked being able to grab two players close to back to back in the first and second rounds and we’ll see how that turns out here. Sadly our ADP is going all bat poo crazy so our guide is a little askew from the last two (yeah, I should have taken a screen shot). Anyway, we are using FFC again. Let’s see what we have.

I have gone back and forth on how I feel about PPR leagues, but I believe I am finally on board completely. My aversion to them was mainly because I was just so used to playing in non-PPR. But this season I am really moving toward league set ups that allow for a more balanced playing field and a somewhat truer to “life” fake football game. Auctions and 2 QB leagues are also high on my list this season. And I plan on campaigning for 2 TE leagues when my schedule allows. To me the closest to a perfect league is Auction draft, 12-14 teams, 2 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 2 TE, 1 R/W/T, K, D/ST (Yes, I know, IDP, Hey, I only have so much time in my day!), and then a somewhat basic scoring with 1 PPR.
Please, blog, may I have some more? There are many fantasy nuggets you can get out of preseason football, but you have to be selective and even then you can’t be 100% sure what you see will translate into the regular season. Take for instance Victor Cruz. The man has shown he can compete in the NFL.
Please, blog, may I have some more?Week three of preseason wasn’t as enlightening as I would like it to be and week 4 will probably be just as snooze worthy, which makes me want to point out something. And here it is. No here –> Don’t read too much into preseason. I’ve gone back and forth on this. I always hear people make the brilliant argument against preseason by saying that the Lions went 4-0 in preseason and then went 0-16 in the regular season. Yeah, that just means that wins and losses mean absolutely nothing. And nobody in their right mind thought they did. But what about the stats? If Joe Blow is targeted more than Joe Schmoe does that mean he might be targeted more often during the season? Well, yes and no. It all has to be looked at in context and according to sample size. If an offensive lineman tweaked his ankle, he’s out of that game even if he would gut it out in the regular season. What does that do to the QB play? There are just too many variables, with the biggest one being that the coaches do not want to give away their game plans. They want to evaluate players in game settings, but they don’t want to give opponents any advantage whatsoever. So I try to take what I can out of these games, but always try to take a step back and realize there is more to it than what meets the eye.
Please, blog, may I have some more? When facing a league with a roster or scoring you aren’t used to, you’ve got to reprogram your fantasy brain. The good thing is that your league mates are usually in the same boat or at least the majority of them are. Take our subject today, how many of your run of the mill leagues have 2 QBs? Not many. Yes, you could be getting into a league that has been playing with 2 QBs for the last 20 years, but that isn’t usually the case, but even if it is, don’t worry too much.
Please, blog, may I have some more?We are now moving onto the middle of the first round. I have gone back and forth on this area of the draft. I can’t say I love it, but let’s see what we are in store for. Unlike the top 4 picks there is more variety here. You can check out drafting from 1-4 here.
Please, blog, may I have some more? This is not going to be a column where I talk about how wonderful Brett Favre is. In fact I really have nothing positive to say about him nor do I want him or the Vikings to be successful this season.
Please, blog, may I have some more? It’s looking more and more likely that Matt Leinart get some more quality co-ed hot tub time now that he’s lost his grip on the #1 QB position. Derek Anderson will start Saturday night for the Cardinals and unless he sacrifices small woodland creatures on the field, I think he’ll retain the job. Leinart has looked like Trent Edward’s illiterate cousin and even though Anderson hasn’t looked much better, he does have some confidence in his ability and will at least try!
Please, blog, may I have some more?Let’s take a look at drafting with a top 1-4 pick in a 12 team QB, RB,RB,WR,WR, FLEX, TE, D, K, 16 round league using ADP from Fantasy Football Calculator:
If you have picks 1 through 4 you can out think yourself and go for someone other than CJ, AP, MJD or Rice, but I wouldn’t do it. Yes, they could get hurt, have a mental breakdown, retire to join Krishna, but their upside in just about any normalish format is too good to go for a surprise pick. So, after grabbing an elite running back, what do you do?
Please, blog, may I have some more?I’ve always been a big proponent of drafting for yards and hoping/assuming the touchdowns will follow if a knock on a player was that he didn’t score enough. My reasoning was that it would seem to make the most sense that the best players rack up the most yards.
