That’s right my friends, we made it. Another football season is about to begin, and to make sure the beginning is as miserable as possible for nearly 95% of the nation, tonight’s opening game features the same team that ended last season: The Patriots. Oh, and the Chiefs are there too, but I can’t take anyone seriously if it involves Alex Smith. But it matters not! For now, we have real football spanning over the next five months (or around a month-and-a-half if you live in Los Angeles), and this real football will, in turn, produce that which will fill our Fantasy Football holes. That makes it sound so crude and coarse, much like my love making. Regardless, with the new season budding with excitement and hope for all fans across the United States (unless you live in Los Angeles), it is now time to release the first iteration of our Weekly Rankings, because if there’s anything I’ve learned during my time here, it’s the world needs rankings. Nay… the world demands them. Honestly, what else is the point of having a Fantasy Football site if not to start knife fights over subjective numerical values? So get your best Ray Lewis going and make the jump for our Week 1 Rankings!

Hi Jay thanks for your football insights. In a standard league I am looking for an upside stash at RB or just WR depth. My team:
    QB Wilson
RB D Johnson, Crowell, Mixon, J Hill, J White, Perine, Jamal Williams
WR Jordy, Watkins, G Tate, Diggs
    TE Rudolph

Available are Smallwood, Kamara, Brenda, Dion, Dwayne Washington, Richard, D. Henderson and Vereeniging at RB, Lockett, Richardson, Britt, K White, Gabriel, Marquise, Funchess and Ross at WR. Thanks!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Tony C: I think you have a guy like that in Williams… but I wouldn’t mind Smallwood over Perine.

  2. MJP says:
    (link)

    Hi Jay!

My Roster is pretty weak after my draft – especially at WR. Wondering which (if any) of my RB should be dropped in favor of Zay Jones, C Davis, Doctson, Beasley, Funchess, Wright, or Amendola.

    Half PPR, Current Roster

    QB Rivers, Dalton
RB DJohnson, Bell, Gillese, Gore, Quizz, Hill
    WR Cooks, Robinson, Maclin, Matthews
    TE Eifert
    DEF Pit
    K Tucker

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@MJP: I disagree slightly here, I think your WRs are okay. I’d probably add Beasley over Quizz because of the half-PPR, but staying pat here is fine too.

  3. tranterkw says:
    (link)

Demaryius Thomas and CJ Anderson are both available in the free agent pool of my league. (we had an auction draft “malfunction” in which two lucky owners were awarded them for $1 each- so we agreed to remove them from their respective teams)

Both are clearly worth more than those who normally reside on the waiver wire. How much of the a $100 FAAB budget should I use on either of them?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@tranterkw: I’d go nuts… the problem is, there will be a few that will do the same.

  4. Need to start 1RB and 1 WR and 1 Flex 12 team standard format
    Cj Anderson
    Abdullah
    Kareem hunt
    Thielen
    Davante Adams
    Thanks

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

      @Andrewm: CJA, Hunt, and Ameer.

  5. Lubey says:
    (link)

(I left this same comment in a post for Zack. Not trying to be that guy, but was hoping to get insight from both of you guys because I’m seriously considering this trade)

    14 team 0.5 ppr
    Start qb 2rb 2wr 1te 2flex(rbwrte)
    5 bench

    Qb-Wilson
Rb-Mccoy, elliot, cook, cj anderson, proise, JWilliams
    Wr-hill, cdavis, jbrown, Mlee, kwright
    Te-graham

I valued rb because I thought with having to start 2 they’d be hard to come by.
This left me weak at wr

I was offered cooper and Hyde for Mccoy and jbrown. He also has Mike Evans. Would you make the trade or try and get evans? Or does rb hold more value in which case keep mccoy?

    Thank you

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Lubey: Being that guy is fine! I’d try to get Evans, but honestly, I’m actually holding here. McCoy might be a pretty good receiver himself this year, haha.

  6. John H says:
    (link)

    Hi Jay,
I’m somewhat new to fantasy football. I think I had a decent draft:
    QB: Russell, Stafford
WR: Dez, Hilton, Devante Adams, Devante Parker, Landry
RB: David Johnson, Hyde, Paul Perkins, Rawls
    TE: Clay
    It’s a .5 PPR. We start 2 RBs, 2 WRs, 1 QB, and 1 flex.

I was offered Gronk and Ingram for Hilton and Hyde. I like the offer but am thinking it’ll weaken me a bit too much at RB. What do you think? If I find do that trade, I’ll probably stream at TE for the year.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@John H: I agree that it weakens you there, but I feel like this is something you should still take and try to triage from your bench. The upgrade from Clay to Gronk is huge.

  7. Richie says:
    (link)

    No love for Younghoe?!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Richie: I have him +2 against the consensus, and I added +10 because of the Korean. So raycess…

  8. Bryce Krispie Treats says:
    (link)

    Hi Jay,

I made the mistake of drafting only 2 QB’s in my 2QB, 12 team league. Right now my starters are Carr and Rodgers. All starting QBs have been drafted. I have Mahomes and Henne on the bench as speculative guys for future starts.

Who do you see as the next guy to get a start? These guys have been drafted – Watson, Trubisky, Tolzien, and Kizer. I just dont want to go into my bye weeks without a starting QB!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Bryce Krispie Treats: Hmm, I’d take Trubisky and keep an eye on things as the byes approach.

  9. Steve Stevenson says:
    (link)

1/2 ppr redraft, start 2RB, 2WR, 1 WRT, 1 QWRT. Have A Brown, T Hill & C Coleman at WR. Give Mixon (who’ll probably be my WRT most weeks) for Watkins? Would leave AP, Quizz and Charles as bench RBs.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Steve Stevenson: Yeah, I’m okay with that trade. Leaves you weak at the bench, but I love that upgrade.

      • Steve Stevenson says:
        (link)

@Jay: Thx. If it goes through would you then drop Coleman, Quizz or Charles for Smallwood?

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@Steve Stevenson: Probably Charles right now, but lets see what happens.

  10. Matt Pavao says:
    (link)

    Hi Jay,

I tried not drafting a kicker and defense, so I’d have extra depth to try a pre-season trade that did not work at all. Now I need to drop two guys from the following group:

    Jeremy Maclin
    Thomas Rawls
    Pierre Garcon
    Frank Gore
    Jonathan Stewart
    Jordan Matthews

    Any ideas?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Matt Pavao: That’s fine, it’s a good strat, and at the very least, you prevent these guys from helping out your week 1 opponants. I’d probably drop Maclin and Rawls

  11. Hamburger Hector says:
    (link)

Howdy Jay, it’s here the week 1 kickoff game is tonight man am I glad for the regular season to start!

.5 PPR league would you make any waiver adds?

First off thoughts on cuffing either my David Johnson, Melvin Gordon or Kareem hunt with kerwyn Williams, Oliver, and C. west respectfully.?

My RBs are DJ, Gordon, mcaffery, hunt, Smallwood, Jamaal Williams, Abdullah

My WRs Alshon Jeffery, Martavis Bryant, Brandon Marshall, Devante Parker, Snead & Chris hogan
    – we start 3 WRs, could be 4 there’s a flex that can be used for either RB/WR or a TE.

I have 2 QBs on the roster we start just 1, due to ding bat hurricane I had to bench Winston and add Palmer. Would you rather just have Palmer & then drop Winston. Or keep both & play matchups? if I did drop Winston I’d use that to cuff one of my RBs.

    – or is Jamaal Williams the drop to add a cuff although I’d prefer to hang onto him.

    — next, the snead dilemma, he’s currently suspended would you hold based on my roster or drop for the RB cuff that I mentioned, or any of these WRs: Kendall wright, funchess, Brandon Coleman, Paul Richardson, jermaine Kearse, galloday I believe he’s dealing with an ankle injury, Cooper Kupp, Terrence Williams, Travis Benjamin, Robert woods, woodwin, lafell, JJ Nelson, Andre Holmes, Braxton Miller

    — now if I don’t cuff any of my RBs here’s some best available RBs: Turbin, breida, foreman, Tolbert, Tarik cohen.

    — should i be worried with alshon this week looks like Norman will shadow alshon all game , I was going to bench alshon for martavis Bryant then that SNF game looks juicy thinking of starting Marshall there now the wildcard move not sure if it’s too crazy but thinking of Chris hogan tonight at WR3.

Flex I’m thinking of mcaffery or hunt but lean mcaffery

    Thanks jay!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Hamburger Hector: I’d hold off on those specific handcuffs for now, the talent just isn’t there. And on the QBs, play matchups now until you have a roster crunch and drop the worst one. Probably will be Palmer in a few weeks. And hold on your RBs, I like all of them generally.

I think Alshon will be okay.

  12. Terry says:
    (link)

    Quick help from anybody.

I have the Chiefs defense and special teams who of course have New England tonight. I can pick up Cincinatti (who can spell that?) for my streamer this week. My problem is my drop.

Marlon Mack (who I own everywhere b/c I’m fairly certain he will have that job at some point)
    Tylrell Williams

I’m thin at RB but have M. Thomas, Fitz, Crabtree, Garcon, Snead and Crowder but is williams to good to drop?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Terry: Yeah, I think you can drop Williams if it’s a 10 team. If it’s a 12-teamer, I’d just roll with the Chiefs and hope for a good outcome.

  13. RicoSuave says:
    (link)

    Hi Jay,

I’m in a 14 team PPR IDP league… who do you recommend I start now that TB-MIA is postponed…

    Here’s my team…

    QB Cousins
    RB Gurley
    RB Rodgers
    WR Hopkins
    WR Evans
    WR Bryant
    TE Bennett
    R/WR/TE RB Perkins
    K Santos
    DL Lawson
    LB Bowman
    DB Neal

    Bench
    QB Manning
    QB Rivers
    RB Carson
    RB Prosise
    RB J. Williams
    WR Perriman

I’m trying to trade one of my bench QBs for either a WR or a RB

    Thanks

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@RicoSuave: I think I’m fine with that lineup.

      • RicoSuave says:
        (link)

@Jay: yeah, but Mike Evans and Rodgers won’t be playing this week… (Hurricane Irma)

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@RicoSuave: That’s right, I keep forgetting… I think you go Prosise and Perriman, not much room to manage here though.

  14. Jay!! Good morning man. How does this look? Anything need changing for this week? Playing around with the idea of switching out Hill against a tough NE def at home tonight. Thoughts?

    QB – Cousins vs Phi
    WR1 – Cooks vs KC
    WR2 – K.Allen @ Den
    RB1 – D.Cook vs NO
    RB2 – Powell @ Buf
    TE – Reed vs Phi
    Flex – T.Hill @ NE
    K – Bryant @ Chi
    Def – Pittsburgh @ Cle

    Bench:
    Ajayi PPD vs TB
    Decker vs Oak
    Wallace @ Cin
    J.Charles vs LAC
    Sproles @ Was

@Synyster: Sup Syn! Looks good to me!

  15. William Hung says:
    (link)

@Jay – so this post is for real from you? Haha…

Anyway, I have a front row seat on the Younghoe hype train and I’m expecting no less than a Bironas-like 6/6 FGs in Week 1…

I also have Gates at TE so I might be screwed there after Week 1 when Rivers force feeds him the record TD. Would you recommend George Kittle as a flier?

    • @William Hung:

Thought I was going crazy, glad it wasn’t just me. Could of sworn he posted a few things yesterday then when I went to look it said someone else’s name!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@William Hung: Haha, yeah, totally me! I think!

Yeah, I think I have my Korean bro at +2 to the consensus. Kittle as a flier, sure, but I’m okay with Gates if your expectations are in check, which they seem to be.

      • William Hung says:
        (link)

@Jay: 14 teamer problems – some people jumped early and reached on some TEs and I waited too long for guys like Hooper when I went with Jacquizz Rodgers instead.

If I don’t go needs based for this roster spot, I could pick up Paul Richardson, Brandon Coleman and any Jets WR (Kearse and Kerley)… too many crappy options to sort through…

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@William Hung: Yeah, I think in a 14 teamer, Gates is just fine.

          • William Hung says:
            (link)

            @Jay: Paul Richardson it is!

  16. Anthony Patullo says:
    (link)

    Hey Jay,

I have a tough Week 1 matchup as I’m playing the guy who went full out Stars n’ Scrubs, but his lower end guys all have great matchups to start (Fitzgerald/Diggs). So rather than going by straight rankings, I’ll probably need to take the upside guys if it’s a anywhere near a close call. Standard scoring.

Taking upside into account who do you recommend?

For RB, need to start 1 of the following as my RB2 (have Gurley as RB1):

    Joe Mixon
    Mike Gillislee
    Matt Forte
    Jeremy Hill

For WR, need to start 3 of the following:

    Demaryius Thomas
    DeAndre Hopkins
    Michael Crabtree
    Martavis Bryant
    Sammy Watkins

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Anthony Patullo: I’d go DT, Hopkins, and Crabtree here.

And then Gillislee, but it’s close with Mixon.

  17. Needs More Crowell says:
    (link)

    12-Team 0.5 PPR League;

    QB – Wilson @ GB
    RB – Crowell vs PIT
    RB – Cook vs NO
    WR – Beckham @ DAL
    WR – Green vs BAL
    FLEX – Crowder vs PHI
    TE – Eifert vs BAL

BE – Parker (BYE), Moncreif @ LAR, Abdullah vs ARI, Blount @ WAS, Ebron vs ARI

I currently have no fallback plan if Beckham sits due it being the night game. Would you drop anyone for Shepard or just roll the dice that OBJ starts?

I feel like Ebron is the weakest link but the top 20 TEs are owned in our league and Eifert is far from safe. My week 1 opponent isn’t very threatening, he’s an Eagles homer starting Wentz and Eagles D, so I may just take the risk.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

I’d just roll the dice. I think Ebron is also okay there based on what the league is.

  18. bobbyboom says:
    (link)

    Yo Jay

    Standard PPR…

    Got offered

    KB13 & CJAnderson for DeMarco..

RBs left would be Abdullah, Woodhead..im cool with rotating 2 of those 3

WRS are Julio, Alshon and Fitz and I could flip any one of these if need-

I like the depth and balance from this trade. Thoughts?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@bobbyboom: Yeah, I agree. It’s a fair deal and helps you out.

  19. ryanoger says:
    (link)

You think I should lose Jamaal Williams or Prosise to pick up Carolina’s DEF this week?

Or should hold and just roll with my current Chiefs DEF?

    thanks jay

    • ryanoger says:
      (link)

      @ryanoger:

      10 team btw

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@ryanoger: I’d rather have Jamaal over Prosise long term, and in the 10-teamer case, I’m okay switching out D’s if it means losing him.

  20. Slappy Jack says:
    (link)

Wait, why do the Patriots make 95% of everyone miserable?
Seems like they have a solid and potentially entertaining team.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Slappy Jack: Science has shown that 95% of the country is miserable when they win, and then seem to win a lot. Ergo…

  21. RICE says:
    (link)

10 team / $100 budget…. someone dropped Gore (no idea why). What would you bid?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@RICE: Probably over 30 is reasonable. I think someone goes 50 to be honest.

  22. TriggaMike says:
    (link)

    What’s up Jay!?
Just wanna say thanks for all that you do man!

Deeper league (PPR) with 2 flex spots for starting roster.
I have Snead suspended and Moncreif without luck.
Who do you recommend I start in those flex spots?
    Options:
Moncreif , riddick, T West, Zay Jones, or John Brown

Also, should I hold on the rookie J Williams (GB) or should I take a flier on Rex considering it’s a ppr league

    Thank you brotha !

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

      @TriggaMike: thanks Mike!

I’d say West for now. And while I love Jamaal Williams, I love Rex in PPR. I’d go him.

  23. Mak says:
    (link)

0.5 PPR league. which 2 guys should I start:

pierre Garcon, mark Ingram, Sammy Watkins, Terrence west.

    • Jay

@Mak: I think Ingram and Watkins, but double check my rankings tomorrow.
