Add Men

DocSeptember 15, 2009 Category: 2009 Fantasy Football

Don’t drop a guy just because he contributed to your 145 – 35 shellacking to the Brees/Purple Jesus team. But there are a few players out there to keep an eye on and possibly pick up if you just noticed that some of your bench players were inactive.  Take a look:

Mike Bell: There isn’t much chance he hasn’t been picked up, but it’s worth a look.  With Bush mainly a receiver, Thomas not 100%, and Bell playing well, there is a good chance he will have long term value.

Todd Heap: If he’s available and you punted on TE pick him up now.  He made a heap of good plays and should have praise heaped upon him.

Patrick Crayton: He’ll fly off the wire like a flock of starlings after Army scores a touchdown.  134 yards and a TD isn’t found on the wire that often.  I liked him enough to draft him in a few leagues and if you need someone to fill in for Anthony Gonzalez he might do the trick, just don’t expect these kind of numbers too often!

Joshua Cribbs: Even in non-return yardage leagues he is worth a look.  The Browns don’t have all that much going on offense and they need his big play ability in there as often as possible.  He’s still a flier at this point, but worth a stash.

Robert Meachem: He still has too many guys in front of him to do too much, but if you are in a return yardage league I’d grab him if he’s around.

Mark Sanchez: He looked like a starting QB.  He will have his ups and downs.  He gets the Patriots at home next week.  I wouldn’t start him against Belichick, but if the waiver wire is LenDale White thin and you need a backup QB I’d take a chance on him.

Edit: It looks like Pierre Garcon will take over as the #2. I like Collies, but it looks like he’ll be #3. Austin Collie: He has Manning throwing him the ball and he’s actually pretty good.  The Colts will grab some old WR who watched week one from his golf cart TV this week, but I still look for Collie to keep the #2 position.  And yes his name could be in the Fantasy Football Name Generator — Austin Collies!

Mark Bradley: He is clearly the Chiefs #2 receiver and should get a lot of garbage time receptions as the Chiefs’ D will continue to give up whole swaths of territory and probably be forcibly removed to Oklahoma.

Mario Manningham: I’m not exactly high on any Giant’s receivers, but Eli likes any player with Manning in his name and now maybe he’ll do a commercial endorsing Hormel with him.  Pick him up in deep leagues.

Laurent Robinson: He looks more like a true #1 receiver than Avery.  If he had a real QB throwing to him I’d be picking him up all over the place, but as is I’d add him in deeper leagues.  He could easily surpass Avery as the #1.

Antwaan Randle El: He was Campbell’s favorite receiver week 1 and there is no reason to think he won’t keep getting looks.  He’s probably not worth starting unless you need a fill in, but you just might.

My league gives return yardage for individual players as 20 yards per point; 5 points at 100 yards. Drop Josh Morgan for Meachem?

    Doc September 15th, 2009 at 10:42 am

    @mgeoffriau: I think it’s worth the switch.

    Hey Doc,

You know off hand if there is going to be a link to check out how the Razzball Football leagues are shaping up? I know I jumped out to the early week 1 pts lead and was kind of curious to see how I fared vs. others. (yourself included)

    10-team PPR league w/ 2RB 3WR +1flex

Current bottom bench guys: WR Breaston, WR Hixon, WR L Moore
Available FA pool: RB: M Bell, WR: D Henderson, D Bess, M Bradley, A Collie, M Manningham, L Robinson

Make any moves and use that #1 waiver priority this week (was at #2 and guy ahead of me got Cadillac…)?

  5. # 5 Doc Says:
    Doc September 15th, 2009 at 11:26 am

@Nate M: Yeah, trying to get that up and running.

    @Matt B: I’d drop Hixon for Bell

@Doc: Hi, waiver time for a 10 team .5ppr league (start 3WR no flex) and was hoping for some input.

Louis Murphy looked sick last night, is he worth an add based on that? Per my leagues format how’d you rank him, Laurent Robinson, Austin Collie, Bradley, and both Claytons. (Josh Morgan and nate wash are last on WR depth chart)

Also, I’m currently starting NO Def if McNabb is DL…..other Def options are OAK, SEA, SF….whod you go with?

Lastly, Im starting Rivers, was unimpressed yday, and he has a tough matchup vs BAL, guys on the wire are Flacco, Collins (sanchez can light up HOU why not him), and Campbell vs STL (I also own roethlisberger vs CHI)

Guys I’d be dropping are Josh Morgan, Norwood (own turner), NO Def

What are your thoughts on the potential moves , which would you do/consider and why….

    Thanks

  7. # 7 Doc Says:
    Doc September 15th, 2009 at 11:48 am

@matthole: I’d hold off on Murphy in a 10 teamer. I like Collie’s situation the best out of those. I’d drop Nate for Collie.

Hmm, let me check the defensive matchups and get back to you.

I’d start Rivers. Look at Croyle’s numbers against the Ravens.

  10. # 10 Doc Says:
    Doc September 15th, 2009 at 12:35 pm

I’m trying to gauge where people are as far as their waiver wire. I didn’t add Caddy and Justin Gage to this list because I thought they would be gone, but that’s probably not always true. I hate looking at those Yahoo percentages, but they are probably fairly accurate early on.

  11. # 11 Doc Says:
    Doc September 15th, 2009 at 12:59 pm

@Doc: Add Bennett to that list.

Waivers going through tomorrow morning, would you put a claim on Flacco, Crayton and/or Cadillac?

My bench players are Anthony Gonzalez, Earnest Graham, Matt Cassel, Devin Hester, James Davis… Which one(s) would you drop for the one or all of the 3 waiver guys I mentioned above? Cutler is my starting QB, should I take a flier on Flacco?

  13. # 13 Doc Says:
    Doc September 15th, 2009 at 1:19 pm

@Vince: Graham needs to go. I’m tempted to say drop Cassell for Flacco, but I think you have to wait that one out for now. It’s worth making the claim on Caddy for Graham.

Just wondering if anyone knows why Higggins and Norwood didn’t KR this weekend. They’re both listed as the KR’s on the depth charts. I played Higgins thinking San Diego would score a lot and he’d get a lot of returns. Hosed!

trade offer today: LT for Pierre Thomas. i get LT. conflicted. advice?

  16. # 16 Doc Says:
    Doc September 15th, 2009 at 3:15 pm

@somewhereoverthedwaynebowe: Wow, that’s crazy. I say you have to roll the dice on that one. Lt was hurt and should still get goalline carries even if he is in a timeshare and PT looks to be in a timeshare no matter what. Just know that LT may be out for next week. He looks questionable right now.

  17. # 17 Vince Says:
    September 15th, 2009 at 3:27 pm

@Doc: Thanks! So you’d keep James Davis over Flacco and Crayton?

  18. # 18 Doc Says:
    Doc September 15th, 2009 at 3:31 pm

@Vince: I’d just hate to carry 3 QB’s and I’m not ready to jump ship on Davis yet.

Please rate for the rest of the year, Breaston, Walter, Gage, Burleson and L. Robinson. The last three are on waivers, pick up any of them or hold.

  20. # 20 Kristina Says:

Should I drop Bruce for D. Henderson? I have A. Gonzalez and my best receiver is Santonio Holmes but I need three. I have Hester and Bruce and really don’t want to take a hit. So, do I give up Bruce for a guy like Henderson (or someone different)?

Also, if I drop McClain (my bench behind Westbrook, Rice, and Thomas) should I pick up Cadillac or Bell?

  21. # 21 paulzone Says:
    September 15th, 2009 at 6:22 pm

    i have anthony gonzalez, so:

current wr’s to fill in: hester, s.smith (nyg)
    fa’s: gage, burleson, morgan

would you drop hester or smith for any of those fa’s.

also, i have shiancoe for TE. Celek and Zach Miller are available. would you swap either?

i’m going with either was or atl this week for d/st…bye bye patriots…

    thanks

  22. # 22 Doc Says:
    Doc September 15th, 2009 at 6:35 pm

@salipp: Breaston, Walter, Gage, Burleson and L. Robinson.

@Kristina: I think there might be someone else out there. Throw some more names out there.

    I’d drop McClain for Bell.

@paulzone: I would drop Smith for Gage and Shiancoe for Miller.

  23. # 23 paulzone Says:
    September 15th, 2009 at 6:44 pm

@Doc: in that case, zach miller or ben watson?

  24. # 24 Doc Says:

    @paulzone: Miller

  25. # 25 flynn Says:

Which QB would you recommend picking up off the waiver. Leftwich, Sanchez, Hill, Collins, Quinn, Stafford, Russell.

  26. # 26 Doc Says:
    Doc September 15th, 2009 at 7:47 pm

@flynn: Hill, great matchup next week, but I also like him long term.

  27. # 27 flynn Says:
    September 15th, 2009 at 8:38 pm

@Doc: thank you. Any thoughts on Cutler and Olsen? I was hoping for a lot of hook ups, but now I’m not sure what to think

  28. # 28 Doc Says:
    Doc September 15th, 2009 at 8:42 pm

@flynn: I think they’ll figure things out. He’s too good not to. But I agree it’s a little disconcerting.

  29. # 29 sam Says:

    Sit/start question:

    2 WR (I know, weird)
    2 RB
    1 flex

    out of:
    Steve Slaton @Ten
    Ronnie Brown vs Indy
    Ricky Williams vs Indy
    Willis McGahee @SD

    Andre Johnson @Ten
    Hines Ward @Chi
    Eddie Royal vs Cle

    Thanks!

  30. # 30 Nick Says:
    September 15th, 2009 at 9:15 pm

Drop Mendenhall or Branch for Bell? Crayton is on waivers as well. Maybe pickup both? I also have Heath Miller, Eli & Ted Ginn Jr on bench. To be honest most of the guys you mentioned are on the wire and I’m looking to make some changes on my bench. What should I do?

  31. # 31 Doc Says:
    Doc September 15th, 2009 at 9:27 pm

@sam: Slaton/Brown, AJ/Royal, McGahee. The matchup isn’t great, but I’d stick with Slaton.

@Nick: I’d drop Mendenhall for Bell and Branch for Crayton.

  32. # 32 Kristina Says:
    September 15th, 2009 at 9:45 pm

Some others still on waivers are: Gage, Stuckey, Clayton, Miles Austin, Louis Murphy, and Manningham.

The other receivers on my team right now are Santonio Holmes, Devin Hester, Anthony Gonzalez, and Bruce. So, if I drop Bruce, which one would you recommend picking up? Thanks!

  33. # 33 Doc Says:

    my plan is to start
    t. brady
    r. moss
    ochocinco
    j. cribbs(ret. yds count 1pt per 35 yds)
    l. johnson
    d. keller
    p. harvin

    benching m. bell, k. smith,e. bennett & r. meacham
reasoning: do or die situation with larry johnson against the raiders plus the return of p. thomas and smith vs. purple people eaters…your thoughts

Do you think Glen Coffee is worth holding onto? I know Gore is a injury away from Coffee having his time, but I need a kicker for Sunday (currently no kicker and bench is full).

But this is what my bench looks like:

    Coffee
    Donald Brown
    Beanie
    Laurent Robinson
    Antonio Bryant
    Patrick Crayton
    James Davis

    So what do you think?

  37. # 37 Doc Says:

    @fLAV: Sound reasoning.
