There are certain players that make me wish that Fantasy Football Roto were more common.  I think I’ve heard them called ‘total points leagues’ before which is probably more apropos but since I love fantasy baseball and fantasy football, I always try to find a way to amalgamate the two into my understanding of the world.  I actually thought it would be a great beginners league to do H2H football but with categories.  You know: Passing Yards you either win or lose like baseball head to head…*Crickets*.  Ok, clearly I’m talking to myself.  You like the traditional tried and true.  The head to head format that pits mano-a-mano, mano-a-womano and sometimes even womano-a-womano.  Hrm, now I’m thinking of mud wrestling…sorry lady readers, my reptilian brain has clearly only progressed so far.  But I digress, I bring up this topic of points leagues because Cam Newton is the epitome of a QB you’d want to draft in a total points league.  Cam has spent the last two years floating between mediocre to living up to his moniker of Superman and this year his schism hasn’t balanced out any better.  Coming into tonight, Cam had 2 games of scoring 25 or more twice on the year, and three where he scored between 12 and 16 and topped off with a 6 point performance against the Cards after scoring a season high 30.  But after a 27 point night against the Bucs, Cam is back in his owner’s good graces and honestly that’s where he should stay.  You drafted him to be a top 5 QB and so far, the stats say he’s well on his way.  If you didn’t want the roller coaster ride, you shouldn’t have bought the ticket.  To give you a different analogy, you liked it and you decidedly put a ring on it.  Sometimes you get this Beyonce and sometimes you get the other Beyonce.  You got 99 problems and the B!@#$ ain’t one and other times…well, yikes.  It’s the life of being a Cam owner.  You either hate it or embrace it but either way you lack discipline if his imbalance throws you off.  In other news from TNF for 2013 Fantasy Football…

Vincent Jackson – Sure the night wasn’t amazing as he only had 5/79 with no scores but he had 13 targets.  That’s now 35 targets in the last two weeks and 24/331/4 on 49 targets over the last 3 weeks.  At this point, VJax has had Rivers, Freeman and now Glennon throw to him and he’s been a stud.  Pretty sure Tim Tebow could look like a star around this guy.  Quick, TB, sign him before anyone else does!

Tedd Ginn, Jr. – The good is the 5/80.  The bad is that he nearly fumbled a punt return and dropped what would’ve been a TD bomb earlier in the game.  The third muy mal thing about this whole bad trilogy is that next week, LaFell is gonna replace him on the WR2 podium no doubt.

Mike Tolbert – Very surprised by his role this week with 11 total touches – 4 via reception – to go with a 64/1 night.  His increased role of late makes me think that J-Stew might not be long for this team or may even have issues with his current injury.  If you are desperate at RB, the kool-aid man looks primed to help you out, at least in the long term.  OH YEAH.

DeAngelo Williams – Not a huge night – 8/43/1 on the ground and 1/8 through the air – as the Panthers seem content on being discontent with whatever RB is their starting.  I still contend that he has a huge December based on 2 years of December stats that really mean nothing to anyone but me.  But hey, I sat him in the Writer’s League so what the heck do I know.

Tim Wright – Granted, most of his stats came in garbage time but given his team is garbage, times like these could last forever.  Not bad getting 5/48/1 at TE from the FA pool.  Here’s to Bostick seeing this line and saying ‘I can do that’ on Sunday.

Greg Olsen – He-man came up big early and then disappeared.  After scoring an early TD, you’re not wrong in expecting a big game but Olsen finished with 3/21/1 line.  Maybe his furry, He-Man underwear started bunching up on him.

Mike Glennon – Still has long ball issues but after a 30/51 night for 275/1/0, I’m putting Glennon down in the guilty pleasures book which sits on my night stand.  The previous page contains Lindsay Lohan pics.  I really hope I don’t confuse those two pale skins in a moment of passion…
