“We did it guys!”

I’m looking at this as less of a victory for Tom Brady and more of a defeat for Roger Goodell. And, of course, the aforementioned mother of Jimmy Garoppolo. My heart goes out to her. If you didn’t hear, Tom Brady’s four-game suspension was overturned by U.S. District Judge Richard M. Berman yesterday. The suspension was handed down by my personal lord and savior Roger Goodell because of Deflategate, a minor issue that didn’t get much coverage at all, taking a backseat to that “Falcons funneling noise into their stadium” ordeal. Here was Berman’s official ruling:

“Because there was no notice of a four-game suspension in the circumstances presented here, Commissioner Goodell may be said to have ‘dispensed his own brand of industrial justice’… The court finds that Brady had no notice that he could receive a four-game suspension for general awareness of ball deflation by others.”

The NFL will appeal the decision, because I guess Goodell’s incompetance in the matter needs to compound further, but the most important aspect, fantasy-wise, is that the epoch of Jimmy Garoppolo has ended before it even began. And that my friends, is a travesty…

Tom Brady’s status as a draftable quarterback has returned, and I have re-ranked him right behind Drew Brees as sixth highest at the position. (I have also updated projections and auction values which can be found here.) This also solidifies production for all offensive principles like Rob Gronkowski, and whatever white receiver and full back they throw out there when in the red zone.

As I mentioned earlier, this seems like a bigger loss for Goodell than a win for Brady, but an unnoticed aspect might be the huge win this is for the NFLPA. Long heralded by myself (and many others) as one of the weakest player unions in pro sports, this is now four straight highly visible defeats for Goodell. The others being double-suspending Ray Rice and being overturned, sweeping penalties against the Saints being overturned, and retroactively penalizing Adrian Peterson under the NFL’s new domestic violence policy. True, these were all actions against either sh*tty human beings or sh*tty team ethics, but in the case of Deflategate, I’m not sure who could bring themselves to really care about this issue. I only cared at first because of all the ball jokes I could make, but even that gets tiring after a while. From a fantasy perspective (because I guess I have to), I would say this might have far-reaching implications in the way suspensions are appealed by players. We are already seeing this with another sh*tty human being, Greg Hardy. This is what happens when you are your own arbiter and have zero effort to create a standardized policy to handle such cases. So I guess thanks for being incompetent Roger Goodell?

Oh god. And seriously, why a hyphen and not a period? Even Trump with a 140-character limit is mind-altering stupid…
