In a “low-energy cast”, Tehol and I return to the old school style of doing things. In that, I mean we do it Double Dragon style. For those of you who remember Nintendo, you know what’s up. For those of you who don’t, well then, just assume it’s sexual innuendo and move on. Regardless, because it was a small news week and the big “draft” Podcasts (a two-part series hopefully) won’t be created (in all it’s majesty) and all it’s parentheses until next week, we stuck to some NFL topics that are somewhat fantasy relevant… like RG-III and Ryan Fitzpatrick. Haha, fantasy relevant…

I am in a 12 team league .5 PPR with 2 keepers. Going to keep David Johnson and Gronk. Would you trade Gronk for the first overall pick to draft Elliot? I would therefore keep Lacy since I am trading Gronk.

@DiRo: Oh, just saw this in the forums. Yeah, I’d totally do that.

Superchargers! OK, question. 10 teams keeper with 3 WR and flex. My keepers. Ive got David Johnson 10th round, DeAndre Hopkins 7th round, Cam Newton5th round pick this year. And I drew first pick in the draft. Gurley and Brown both available. Who do I take?

    Thanks!

@Patrick Leon: Maybe! Wow, tough one. I think you have to still go Brown here though. Just too much production.

16 team dynasty just starting up.with this roster
1 QB (active max 3, you can have as many as you want from the team of your name and up to 1 from another team not your name, OR up to 2 if none are from team of your name)
    2 RB (active max 4)
    3 WR (active max 6)
    1 TE (max 2)
    1 regular flex TE/RB/WR
    1 K (2 max)
    2 DB (3 max)
    2 DE (3 max)
    2 LB (3 max)
    1 Team D (2 max).
scoring is basic PPR for offensive players, for IDP’s NOT big play (so tackles half of TO’s). for Team D/ST the KR and PR TD’s goes to them, not individual players, decent sized bonuses for pts and yds against (20 pts for shutout, 15 for 1-6 allowed, 10 for 7-13 allowed, -10 for over 34 allowed, for yds 20 pts for under 101 allowed, 15 for 101-200 allowed, -10 for over 500 allowed). sacks go only to IDP’s, not team D’s. but in that structure good team D’s still have more value than standard.
what’s really different about this league is that each of the 16 teams is named after real life team (sort of like JB’s baseball dynasties of similar nature, here we HAVE to have at least 7 team named guys at all times, short time leeway given in events of real life trades), and now, in the first year, each team can keep as many of it’s own team players predraft as it wants, but it has to pay for them at ADP cost, and since fantasy pros doesn’t have IDP ADP’s, nor dynasty ADP’s i found this site for that: www03.myfantasyleague.com/2016/adp . it bumps the values of big name rookies a LOT, but hey, you get to keep the players forever (in future years it’s just backloaded keepers at no cost), so you should have to pay a 3rd rounder for doctson as WAS now. we’re at fantrax and it’s been set up to have INFINITE RES/IR slots, and ANY reason a player can’t play he can be slotted into them (byes, suspensions, PUP, IR, but players HAVE to be taken off RES/IR after byes right away, also to make sure nobody can hoard you can’t add IR/PUP guys off FA). i’m ARI and have these options
    1. D.Johnson 1st
2-5. Floyd/J.Brown/Palmer/Fitzy all from rounds 5-6th, but the rule being you have to move a guy up if you want to keep (so one goes to 4th round), and if you have 3 guys in same round and have already moved one up, you get to move one down (so one goes to 7th). 4-7th taken up with them (if it’s smart, and seems to be)
    6.ARI D 8th
    7. Mathieu DB 9th
    8. Bucannon LB/DB 12th (did VERY well last year as a LB/S hybrid in IDP leagues)
    9. C.Jones LB 20th (he’s being ranked as the 31st or so LB at FP, which is right near the floor for staring LB’s here (32nd would be the “replacement level”)
    10. Catanzaro K 21st
    11. C.Campbell DL 24th (last rounder, and he’s ranked way higher by FP for DL)

if i do that i really only will get good offensive players in rounds 2 and 3 (2.12 and 3.05), however, these picks aren’t as late as they seem, it’s very likely my pick at 2.12 is actually the 9th overall non-keeper pick. Only picks before me are DEN (1.07 and 2.10), KC (1.09 and 2.08), BUF (1.10), WAS (1.11), MIA (1.12) and NYG (2.11), the rest being taken up with keepers. i gotta think DEN or KC takes cam newton (pretty weak QB situations in both of them), so that leaves at least one of these for me at pick 2.12: hopkins, gurley, evans, jeffrey, cooks, k.allen, miller, hyde (man you are higher on hyde than anybody),
and at least one of these at my pick 3.05, k.white, treadwell, eifert (i do need a TE), ingram, martin, coleman (CLE), b.marshall or another TE: olsen/ebron/ASJ/fleener/ertz or another QB: mariota/winston/rivers/brees/dalton/bridgewater

    1. you agree i should keep floyd/j.brown/palmer/fitzy in rounds 4-7?
    2. do to that you agree i should take either cam newton or best RB at 2.12? (or eifert? DEN, MIA or BUF might do that first, and i’m pretty sure one of OAK or ATL behind me does if i don’t at 2.12). best RB would be one of miller/hyde/ingram/martin. it’s also possible assuming newton is gone to gamble on best of that group for pick 3.05 and grab 4th WR here.
    3. this pick at 3.05 seems harder than 2.12, as i won’t pick again till the 10th round (156th overall).
    – clearly if i got newton or eifert at 2.12 this is best RB. palmer is old and newton seems too good to pass up at 2.12, but i doubt it’s a choice. clearly if i get cam and best RB i just wait till late for a TE.
but if i got RB at 2.12 go TE here or just best player? this would move my least ARI WR to being my flex guy if WR, or i’d have pretty sick 3 RBs.

    4. also, why so high on hyde (compared to ingram/martin) for dynasty? would PPR change that (dynasty ranks don’t appear to be in PPR)?

I read this, but give me a bit to answer this on my computer. I don’t think I can handle doing it on mobile. Thanks!

      • And Now the Jon Lovitz Dancers! says:
        (link)

@Jay: no problem, thanks. also, after you answer i’ll show ya what i found out using 2/3 of your dynasty ranking (per position), 1/3 of this year’s PPR ranking (per position again) and then using the number (not by name, but by number of the expected total of fantasy pts per each slot, so if you have gurley as the 4th RB in PPR this year i just took the expected fantasy pts out of fantrax for their 4th RB, no matter his name X 1/3, and the 1st for this year X 2/3) of expected overall value , then subtracted the “replacement level” i.e. worst player (not worst starter) ownable per position, so in our league that’s 97th WR, 65th RB etc. hopkins/newton were the top 2 guys. eifert came in at 19th. basically setting up a VBD without the bots doing the calculations for our exact market (although i do buy one of these each year, since during a draft things change, esp after the 4th-5th round), and particularly for finding just where to even have any idea to slot the IDP guys. the amount of IDP guys you own in a league like this VERY much effects what rounds they should slot into. basically if you think l.david is the best LB his value is about the same as say forte or woodhead (obviously forte and woodhead are lowered by the 2/3 dynasty values, as you have them 35th and 43rd rest of career for RB’s), but if you need RB clearly you take woodhead or forte now.

@And Now the Jon Lovitz Dancers!: 1 – Yeah, I agree. 2 – I’d do either Newton or best RB. I’d probably stay away from Eifert there. Hyde has good upside, but I think Miller is just as good there. 3 – Yeah, wait late for a TE I think. 4 – I still believe in Hyde, especially in dynasty formats. 4 – PPR changes it a little, but I don’t think enough.

Which team would you rather field?

    Qb cousin. 1$
    Rb David johnson. 24
    Rb AP. 25
    Flex Devante Parker 1
    Wr Antonio brown. 28
    Wr. Keenan Allen. 14
    TE. Ertz. 1

    Qb Cousins

    Rb. Lacy. 15
    Flex. Ezekiel elliott 21
    Wr Aj Green. 21
    Wr Keenan Allen. 15

Todd Gurley, Demaryius Thomas, Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, Alshon Jeffrey

@Brandon: Gurley and eeesh. This is hard. I’m leaning Nelson, but Jeffrey is right there. Flip a coin, in my heart and head, going Jeffrey.

Good job Jay! Man..do I need help from embarrassing 2015 ten team keeper forever. I will get third pick this year tho and I get to keep 8. Which 8 would you keep please. Also what would your strategy be for first and second picks. I’m willing to build for next year too if this year looks too hopeless. Any advice appreciated. Thanks!!
    Eifert
    Barnidge
    A Cooper
    Cobb
    Kev White
    D G-Beckham
    Martavis Bryant
    Josh Gordon
    Lacy
    Matt Jones
    Forte
    Charc West
    Khiry Robinson
    Rivers

    • Jay

      Jay says:

@Sasquatch sluggers: I’d go Cooper, Cobb, Gordon, Lacy, Jones, Forte, White, Eifert. West is also interesting… but right on the cusp. I’d say your strat should be best player no matter what that high up.

  9. Jensen says:
    (link)

Jay, in a dynasty league who do you think is a safer option, Hyde or Rawls?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

Rawls for safety, Hyde for ceiling.

      • Jensen says:
        (link)

@Jay: Yeah? Having a real tough time figuring out my RB 2 spot. How badly do i need to get Prosise if I have rawls?

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@Jensen: I’d say it’s important, but not life-threatening. I think Rawls’ floor is pretty high considering their propensity to run. One other thing, Hyde does provide a little more value seeing as how he’s been a let down thus far. And he fumbled in like his first possession… ugh.
