Football is back, so naturally, that’s what we talked about in Episode 5 of the Razzball Football Podcast. Tehol and Zach joined me with special guest Ramona from SportsGalPal. And, as the title denotes, we did that with PRODUCTION VALUE. That was the theme of the night, because we had Tehol talking on the phone while driving, which is totally something we don’t condone. Zach eating his mic was a nice issue to have. And I left music on here and there because what do I know about closing windows and pressing buttons on my mouse? Hint? I. Don’t. Know. Much. Despite all this, we do get to every Week 1 matchup with some thoughts, pontifications some would say (probably just me), and predictions for you to consume. Hopefully with an alcoholic beverage. Or some tacos. I don’t know, spice up your experience man. SPICE IT UP. (Is that a saying?) Whatever, Episode 5 is after the jump!

Our Week 1 Rankings can be found here!

Have to cut either Tajae Sharpe or Michael Thomas. Who would you lose?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@ashtray: tough one, I like Sharp, but I gootta say hold Thomas there.

  2. Tony says:
    (link)

A guy just offered me Eli, CJ, and Gostkowski for Tyrod, Stewart and Hill. I also have Lamar, Mathews and Gore at RB. Standard 12 team

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Tony: I like the CJ upgrade but not much else… I’d probably hold here.

      • Tony says:
        (link)

@Jay: Would you consider Stewart and HIll for CJ a good deal for me? Because Eli is an upgrade over Tyrod, IMO, and Gostkowski just replaces my current kicker and gives me a waiver spot for a week 1 breakout

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@Tony: I think it’s okay, but I think you’re still paying too much there. Sure, Eli is now, but I think they are close enough to where it’s a nonstarter for me at least. I think it comes down to how much you believe in CJ. I believe in him, but I think Hill is what’s pushing this away for me.

  3. William Hung says:
    (link)

@Jay: I know you mentioned that I should start Matt Jones over Gio Bernard if Jones is healthy, but you have Bernard ranked ahead of Jones in your 1/2 PPR rankings for Week 1. Also, I thought Matt Jones had decent hands for a RB to be in on 3rd downs – what’s this I’m hearing Chris Thompson as the 3rd down back / 2 min drill guy?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@William Hung: I might have been coming in from the standard rankings. If that’s what the rankings say, go with that. Jones is okay with pass-catching, but they prefer their primary guy to be a more traditional runner, ala Morris.

      • William Hung says:
        (link)

@Jay: Just checked it again – You have Woodhead, Jones, Bernard (25-27) with Arian Foster #30. Should I roll with those top 3 or start Foster ahead of Bernard on the upside?

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@William Hung: Double check Saturday, as I update Friday night or with any major news, but yeah, I’d go with the top-3 there. For sure.

  4. Joe says:
    (link)

Three (not so) easy questions for which I appreciate your patience and indulgence. One word answers – or any answer, really – would be super sweet!

    1. I have Brady as my QB. Do I start my streamfest this week with Smith, Prescott, or Osweiler?

    2. Do I stream the Pats defense or the Eagles?

    3. Should I drop Tajae Sharp to carry a Gronk backup like Bennett or Ebron?

Team: QB – ?, RB – Ingram, Lacy, WR – Julio, Landry, Flex – Decker, K – Crosby, DST – Pats
Bench – Brady, Woodhead, DeAngelo, Christine, Tate, Sharpe

    • Tony says:
      (link)

@Joe: My 2 cents: Prescott, easiest matchup. Philly, ballhawk defense vs Cleveland. No, if Gronk goes down, there will be waiver options available unless you have 14+ managers

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

      @Joe: Of course!

Going with the Dakattack. We should hashtag that. I would say Patriots there. Eh, hold onto Sharp for now.

  5. A bag of sand says:
    (link)

How would you rank for non ppr:
    Lockett
    Benjamin
    Coleman
    Aiken
    Sharpe

    Thx

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@A bag of sand: I’d go Coleman, Lockett, Travis Benjamin, Aiken, Sharpe, and then Kelvin if you meant him.

  6. Tony says:
    (link)

    Coleman, Lockett, Benjy, Aiken, Sharpe

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

      @Tony: I agree!

  7. Cram It says:
    (link)

Hi Jay. Thoughts on this team? 14 team auction:
    QB – Stafford
    WR – Julio Jones
    WR – Eric Decker
    RB – Jonathan Stewart
    RB – Melvin Gordon
    TE – Clive Walford
    W/T – Golden Tate
    W/R – Giovanni Bernard
    BN – Jeremy Hill
    BN – Markus Wheaton
    BN – Mike Gillislee
    BN – Eli Rogers
    BN – Orleans Darkwa
    BN – Jay Cutler

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Cram It: Looks pretty good. Love your WRs, including Decker. Is this PPR? Even if it isn’t still digging it. Some risk with the RBs though, having Hill helps, but this might be holding you back if something happens. Otherwise though, pretty solid.

      • Cram It says:
        (link)

@Jay: Not PPR. I corned the Cincy backfield one of them should produce. Figured the bench was deep enough that it shouldn’t hold me back elsewhere if something happens. Hell if I know what to make of Mel-Gord. Thanks for the feedback.

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@Cram It: Of course! I’m very high on Gordon this year… but I’m nervous about it.

  8. Drew says:
    (link)

I have the Broncos and Chiefs D/ST but I’m not 100% on starting the Broncos….your thoughts?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Drew: I think they’re close enough to where it doesn’t matter… but I’m sticking with the Broncos at home. Carolina still doesn’t have anyone to stop Miller.

  9. Timmah R says:
    (link)

FOOSBALL is the devil Bobby Boucher! I can only play 2 of these 4 in H2H standard league, who would you pick? 2 of Moncrief, Maclin, Floyd, Langford (1 WR + 1 FLEX)

This is my first year doing football for in like 7 or 8 years but love you guys for baseball so I’ll be tuning in all year! What do you think of my team? (10 team H2H standard, was 6th pick)
    QB- Brees, RB-Gurley, Latavius, WR-Jordy, Moncrief, TE-Gronk, FLEX-Maclin, DST-Hou, K-Tucker
Bench- Langford, Abdullah, Floyd, Snead, Shepard, M.Ryan, J.Thomas

    Thanks!!!!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Timmah R: Haha. Yeah, okay, so I’d go Moncrief there and Maclin. Thanks for joining us!

I like the team, great RBs there, and love the buy on Jordy. Bench is dynamic as well, solid team.

      • Timmah R says:
        (link)

        @Jay: thanks for the feedback!

  10. Herbie says:
    (link)

    PPR
Trying to maximize spencer ware value to Charles owner. What can I grab? I don’t see anyway to get bell unless I include d Johnson. I’d put Hyde in a deal to get him though. Or should I just stop tinkering and roll with ware in case Charles is out for longer? I know a bell, woodhead, sanu/Matthews for Hyde, ware, John brown trade isn’t going to be sexy enough.
    His roster:
    Dalton
    Woodhead, d williams
    Sanders, Landry, j Matthews,
    Reed
With bell, Charles, Dion Lewis, sanu, j cook, Steve smith

    Me:
    Taylor
    D Johnson, Hyde, ware
    TY, b Marshall
    V green
With John brown, Parker, Coleman, Dorset, Jennings, Carr, duke Johnson

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Herbie: I’d do Ware and Hyde for Bell, but I don’t see why they’d do that… I’m fine holding here, he has Williams too, so they might feel like they are set anyhow when Bell comes back.

  11. a bag of sand says:
    (link)

pls rank these rb to stash/bench in smaller non ppr leagues:
    sims
    c west
    mckinnon
    j white
    vereen

    thx

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@a bag of sand: I’d go Sims, White, West, McKinnon, Vereen in non PPR.

  12. Frank White says:
    (link)

Sup Jay.. Jason Witten is available in my 12 team PPR league. Should i grab him? I already have Reed but my bench is
    Crowell
    tevin Coleman To backup Freeman
    treadwell
    michael thomas
    phillip dorset
    jesse james

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Frank White: Sup Frank! I wouldn’t mind doing that over James there.

      • Frank White says:
        (link)

        Thnx buddy

  13. William Hung says:
    (link)

@Jay – where can I find the page with all the divisional previews?

      • William Hung says:
        (link)

@Jay: oh ok yeah that’s why I was looking to see all of them, but that explains why i couldn’t see them all. I didn’t realize writers could leave this site. I thought if you were in, you were in for life like a cult – the only way out is death

  14. Big league choo says:
    (link)

12 team ppr league 2rbs no flex

My rb Gurley ,Ingram, ware, James white

Losing Virgil green , Who’s my add?

Vereen, Powell, Hightower, Chris Thompson, Alfred morris/McFadden we do have an ir spot available but rb limit is 5

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Big league choo: I think Powell here. Thompson is intriguing in this format, but I like Bilal here more.

  15. Fizz says:
    (link)

PPR. Which WR do I start this week? K. Benjamin, E. Sanders or S. Smith Sr

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Fizz: Sanders here, I think Benjamin is about five spots back.

    • Fizz says:
      (link)

@Fizz: I also have Sanu if that matters..

      • Jay

        Jay says:
        (link)

@Fizz: For this week, probably not, but I like Sanu for sure. I just want to see how they use him.

  16. Slotty Seconds says:
    (link)

12 team ppr…trade spencer ware and manning for Russell Wilson?

James white and manning for Wilson?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Slotty Seconds: Hmm, any other bonus points for QBs? And what’s your RB situation right now? If these are spare parts, I’m fine with both, probably would want to get rid of White first.

      • Slotty Seconds says:
        (link)

@Jay: have Gurley and Miller as starters…no bonuses,Eli just tends to be boom or bust every game. Looked at his games vs division last year only 7tds in 6 games…so the theory that they have a weak schedule not really true.

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@Slotty Seconds: sounds good, yeah, I’d try to keep Ware for now.

  17. Zandy says:
    (link)

    hey Jay!’
ready for a new year and new season
    12 Team Std League

    QB: Bortles
    RB: Ingram Forte
    WR: Hopkins Maclin
    TE: Kelce
    Flex: JCharles
BN: JGordon, SWare, Blount, Tevin C, JGraham, Hogan, Sproles, Devontae Booker
    1. Do I need to worry about Bortles?
    2. Worth carrying a bench QB? FA’s: Mariotta, Flacco, RG3, Prescott. Osweiler
    3. What do you think of the squad?
    Thanks man!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Zandy: Me too! Good to see you again Zandy… 1. Naw, I think he’ll be okay. 2. I might grab Dax just to see what happens. I’m feeling like he’s the new Tyrod. 3. I’m digging your WRs, that’s for sure. I like Charles and Gordon, but the delay is going to hurt a bit. But solid team!
