Ryan Mallett always seemed like a jerk.  No, not Greg Hardy-level jerk.  He’s just plain scum.  But Mallett didn’t seem to care or get it at all, even dating back to college.  Watching Hard Knocks showed his personality even more, making it easy to root against him.  When he showed up late during the show, you gave him the benefit of the doubt.  But when he missed the team flight last weekend, he deserved to get canned, and canned he got.

The quarterback rotation that overrated Bill O’Brien implemented early on is no more, as it’s Brian Hoyer’s job going forward.  He’s not a real life good quarterback, but we only care about the results here in fantasy world.  Consider him a bye-week replacement or one of your streamers going forward.

Quarterbacks

Brian Hoyer (15 percent) vs. Tennessee — 17.28, 20.88, 24.22 and 21.92.  Those are the fantasy points that Hoyer has racked up over the past four weeks.   Without Arian Foster in the mix for touches, expect Hoyer’s production to continue as Houston is going to have to throw the ball.  DeAndre Hopkins and Nate Washington will continue to make life easy for Hoyer.

I’d start him over: Ryan Fitzpatrick, Russell Wilson, Drew Brees.

I’d sit him for: Matthew Stafford, Eli Manning, Andrew Luck.

Ryan Fitzpatrick (34 percent) at Oakland — If interceptions count against you in your league, Fitzpatrick probably hurts you more than he helps you.  Even if they do count, I’m rolling him out in a pinch this week against Oakland, who allows the eight-most fantasy points to quarterbacks this year.  Count on multiple touchdowns and a third straight 20-point performance.

I’d start him over: Russell Wilson, Jay Cutler, Joe Flacco.

I’d sit him for: Brian Hoyer, Matthew Stafford, Matt Ryan.

How did I do last week?

Teddy Bridgwater — 18.74 fantasy points.

Blake Bortles — 13.98 fantasy points

Tight Ends

Austin Seferian-Jenkins (36 percent) vs. Atlanta — As of print (upload?) it looks like ASJ is going to give it a go against the Falcons, who give up the sixth-most fantasy points to tight ends.  He hasn’t played a full game since Week 1, when he racked up 25.50 points against Tennessee.  Mike Evans was out in that game, and Vincent Jackson will be out this week.  Look for ASJ to be the second option in the passing game this week for Tampa Bay.

I’d start him over: Delanie Walker, Benjamin Watson, Gary Barnidge.

I’d sit him for: Ladarius Green, Tyler Eifert, Martellus Bennett.

Jeff Cumberland (0 percent) at Oakland — It’s a desperation dart throw, sure, but who knew who Gary Barnidge was before he faced the Raiders?  I’m not advocating Cumberland, but if you’re extremely desperate, I’d play him against the worst defense against tight ends.

I’d start him over: Heath Miller, Clive Walford, Larry Donnell.

I’d sit him for: Eric Ebron, Gary Barnidge, Richard Rodgers.

How did I do last week?

Jordan Reed — 24.70 fantasy points.

Ladarius Green — 16.50 fantasy points.

Kicker and Defense & Special Teams

Blair Walsh (23 percent) at Chicago — You can get in trouble when you chase points in fantasy, don’t think that this is what I’m doing after his 20-point performance last week.  It’s more of his upcoming schedule over the next three weeks, which features three top-7 matchups (Chicago, St. Louis and Oakland) for field goal kickers.  It’s tough to predict for kickers, but use it as a tiebreaker if you’re stuck.

I’d start him over: Chris Boswell, Chandler Catanzaro, Josh Brown.

I’d sit him for: Brandon McManus, Connor Barth, Nick Folk.

Atlanta (58 percent) vs. Tampa Bay — They were a viable play last week, and they remain that this week against Jameis Winston and the Vincent Jackson-less Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

I’d start them over: Carolina, Denver, Minnesota.

I’d sit them for: St. Louis, Green Bay, New York Jets.

How did I do last week?

Josh Lambo — 9 fantasy points.

Miami defense — 12 fantasy points.
