There’s a lot of conjecture on the how and why America’s most popular sport is losing popularity. Some might point to it being an election season, which doesn’t make much sense as I’m sure most people are struggling to put themselves as far away from stated election season as much as possible. I mean, talk about bad timing for cut backs at NASA. Could it be the lack of quality matchups on Monday Night and Thursday Night Football? I guess that could be part of it, seeing as how I’ve seen enough of the Bears, Titans, and Jaguars in prime time to think that it’s a deliberate attempt by the league to test the limits of profitability. There was also a compelling World Series, with a ratings-heavy postseason for baseball. And of course, lastly, there is a structural mechanism here that’s in play, the fact that America is moving away from cable viewership, mostly because we as a nation love cat GIFs. And I sort of agree here, all of these aspects do seem to be well-reasoned arguments of why the sport is in decline. But in all this thought-exercise, you’d have to admit that the biggest factor here is perhaps the quality of the sport is in decline… right? Call me crazy, but I’ve been pointing out every week it seems now that the quality that the NFL is providing is not on par with what I think our expectations are. The outlandish reactions to a black quarterback utilizing his first amendment rights, the continued nepotistic boys club of announcers who are just completely awful at what they do. I mean, has anyone understood north of 25% of the words that even come out of Shannon Sharpe’s mouth? Berman, you’ve been yelling RRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAIDERS! for fifty years man. You got anything else? I mean, the fact that Ray Lewis held a job with ESPN was the biggest gaslighting I’ve seen from that network. And then you add in all the penalties for jumping two inches off the ground, yet Vontaze Burfict is in the league. Are we the viewers starting to notice? Maybe. All I know is, I love football, but hate the NFL at this point, and I can certainly see that maybe I’m not the only one…

On a lighter note, maybe this is why we have fantasy football! Be sure to check out our Start and Sits for today’s games here, along with Rudy’s updated projections for Week 9 by clicking here. And as always, our updated rankings are available after the jump!

Select the “Flex” tab if you need a more complete picture to decide your starts and sits. Use the “OP” tab for 2QB Leagues. And you can access our Half PPR and PPR rankings using the drop down box in the top left of our rankings when you select the RB, WR, TE, or Flex positions. Any and all questions will be answered below…

  1. TOGMAN says:
    (link)

    12 team half-PPR

I need a kicker for this week so I have to drop someone..

    QB: Winston
    RB: Bell, McCoy
    WR: Crabtree, Sanders
    TE: Fleener
    W/R/T: M. Jones

Bench: Rivers, Gronkowski, [Bernard, McKinnon, Sproles, Wallace, Coleman]

Which of those 5 ^ should I drop?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@TOGMAN: Hmm, I think McKinnon is probably your least inspiring option, but I think I’d rather drop Sproles here.

  2. Steve Stevenson says:
    (link)

0.5 ppr ROS, Prosise or Mathews? See you have them right next to each other today. Just a stash as I likely won’t ever need to start either.

  3. Nightpandas says:
    (link)

    .5 ppr,
    Perkins or Asiata ROS?

  4. He Hate Me says:
    (link)

You hit the nail on the head. If it wasn’t for fantasy I wouldn’t be watching the NFL. Too many ticky tack penalties called that end up completely changing the outcome of the game is what did it in for me.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@He Hate Me: Thanks man. And yeah, it gets frustrating watching the NFL gut itself… in the name of what? What exactly? I’m not sure what the end game is here. Prepare us for robots in the future?

  5. Fghf says:
    (link)

derek carr or ryan tannehill this week?

btw to add ryan tannehill i’d have to drop kadeem carey… my rbs are freeman, elliot, forte, kelley, morris, powell

    thanks

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Fghf: They are right next to each other, but I’d rather choose Tannehill here for upside, simply because the Broncos defense. I do think that Carr is the floor choice here.

  6. Nick says:
    (link)

hate seeing 2 players I own next to each other in rankings…T West or Ingram in a flex this week? I have had West in that spot all week but still contemplating Ingram against that terrible SF line but know he could be sharing carries (or he runs away with it from the start)

    • the imp says:
      (link)

@Nick: Jay will chime I’m sure, but it seems to me Ingram for ceiling and West for floor, depending on how the rest of the lineup seems to be matching up with your opponent.

      • Jay

        Jay says:
        (link)

@the imp: Yeah, completely agree here.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Nick: Yeah, if it’s me, I’m hoping that Ingram takes the game over… risky, but that’s my gut.

      • Nick says:
        (link)

@Jay: fair enough, thanks! Going to make the switch & roll with Ingram..

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

          @Nick: Good luck man!

  7. Cram It says:
    (link)

I’m trying to hedge my bets so I don’t get a dud. Stafford/Tate seems safe buty gut is making me really worried about that Vikes D at home. So which QB/WR combo would you deploy using Stafford or Tannehill with Tate or Coates?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Cram It: I think Tannehill is the answer, since the Jets defense has been stable, they have, at the very least, an offense that doesn’t do itself any favors. And I think Tate has the highest ceiling here… so I think I might do a combo of Tannehill and Tate. Tough one though, all very close.

  8. the imp says:
    (link)

Is the Pitta ranking dependent on Smith Sr. not playing?
In PPR I’m thinking Pitta if Smith sits and Ebron if he doesn’t. I’m not sure if I need floor or ceiling…it will depend on Hilton and McCoy’s health.
    Thoughts?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@the imp: It was, and I’ve readjusted now that it looks Smith is going to play. Ebron is fine here, they are pretty close after I changed them.

  9. Andrewm says:
    (link)

Yo jay who do you like this weekend?
Hightower or Ingram? 12 team standard
    Also need to pick 2
    Jones jr
    Enunwa
    Macklin
    Adams
Would you consider starting both saints RBs and benching McCoy for 1 of them?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Andrewm: Tough one, but I still like Ingram, just the better player. I want to have faith in that, even though it’s risky. And I’d go with Adams and Jones. But I’d stick with McCoy if that’s your third roster spot.

      • Andrewm says:
        (link)

@Jay: right on jay thanks man. What do you think about QB this week? My options are
        Flacco
        Wentz
        Keenum
        Fitz
        Kessler
        Foles?

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@Andrewm: Feeling Keenum, but these are pretty scary options.

          • andrewm says:
            (link)

            @Jay: haha.
And Halloween was last weekend right!!!!!!
Might roll the dice with flacco. Could see Baltimore behind and after the bye week maybe he can connect on some deep ones

  10. Allan says:
    (link)

    Jay,
12 team ppr. I’ve got johnson on bye. My other backs are ingram, Hightower, asiata, mathews. Got asiata and ingram in right now but I’m tempted to roll out ingram and Hightower because someone is going to take advantage of that putrid niners run d. Thoughts?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Allan: Yeah, it’s a way to cover yourself, and is fine with your other options being what they are.

  11. Ted says:
    (link)

Hey Jay! Crazy week 9 is already here!

.5 ppr league I need a RB2 to start this week. DJ has a bye and so does my Jeremy hill. My RB1 will be Melvin Gordon. Options on my team to play at RB2 this week are Derrick Henry at SD, also have Bibbs who’s at OAK.

If I drop Bibbs here are available options:

    – Mike Davis (vs saints, hyde is out)

    – Alf Morris (at Cleveland)

    – don Jackson (vs colts)

    – paul Perkins (vs Eagles)

    – Aaron ripkowski (vs colts)

    – or roll with Derrick Henry as RB2. Then drop Bibbs to add either Perkins or joique bell (packers expect to sign bell)

    Thanks man!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Ted: I like Henry here. San Diego’s rush defense has been lacking a bit.

      • Ted says:
        (link)

        @Jay:

        Thanks!

.5 ppr for depth/are you dropping Bibbs for Paul Perkins?

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@Ted: Eh, probably holding one more week to see what we have out of that tandem.

  12. Jake Snakebit says:
    (link)

Ppr league. Start Carr or kaep?
    Start Jennings or Harris?

Also in a standard league, I’m sitting McCoy this week out of injury fear. 3 out of 4 needed: Adams, Monty, lat Murray, Hightower?
    Big Ben or dak?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Jake Snakebit: I’d go Jennings there, and then Adams, and then the Dak attack.

  13. Stuatt says:
    (link)

I need help on a couple fronts. Forrest to I go with Jeremy Maclin or Ruan Mathews at flex? And then do I plug in big Ben or roll with Wilson?

    • Stuatt says:
      (link)

@Stuatt: I know Harris is still on our waiver wire…would he be preferable to Maclin or Mathews now that Hyde is out?

      • Jay

        Jay says:
        (link)

@Stuatt: Eh, it’s probably the same thing. I’m fine rolling with the other guys here.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Stuatt: I think you go Maclin and Wilson here.

  14. William Hung says:
    (link)

Looks like Rudy’s “skynet of football” likes Coates and Tannehill slightly more than Parker and Kaep, respectively, but the most interesting ranking is how much higher Hightower is over Ingram.

I was actually leaning Parker and Kaep until I saw his ranking, but now I’m thinking of going full Rudy

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@William Hung: Yeah, pretty interesting stuff. Try him out, he’s had some big hits this year so far.

      • William Hung says:
        (link)

@Jay: Yeah I looked at his latest rankings and saw that Rudy has Harris at around 60 something now. Rolling with 3 RBs this week in Jennings, Harris, and Hightower. I think Pigskin is also debating between Tanny and Kaep since it now has them back to back after earlier having Tanny a handful of spots ahead. So I decided to roll Kaep for the fun factor.

I thought Pigskinator was behind a paywall at this point. I was surprised I was able to see the rankings.

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@William Hung: Rudy maybe giving the sub thing a wider birth right now. Not sure though.

  15. William Hung says:
    (link)

Make sure DuJuan Harris is upgraded appropriately – Hyde has been ruled out.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@William Hung: Ah, will do in a second, thanks for the heads up!

  16. sgamby says:
    (link)

PPR League 4-4 and would like a win this week , Would you take a shot and trade Crowell for Ingram or just hold on to Crowell ROS? My other backs are J Stew and D Martin.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@sgamby: Yeah, I think that’s a strong buy low. Risk is there, sure, but I like the boldness.

  17. PaulZone says:
    (link)

    Steve smith or corey coleman?

    0.5 ppr

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

      @PaulZone: Smith. Close though.

      • William Hung says:
        (link)

        @Jay: Smith is playing?

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@William Hung: Yeah, late activation from what I’ve read.

  18. Pugs & Slugs says:
    (link)

    Hi Jay,
I need some last minute advice for this week. I’ve already won my division, but am trying to keep finish top 2 for a 1st round bye. The guy I’m playing is projected for 133 with a strong (full) roster.

    12 Team PPR
I have Brady, D. Johnson, Gostkowski, and AZ D/ST on byes and Cobb out most likely. Unfortunately the only guy I want to drop (Sterling Shepard) has a 10am game and I won’t be able to see how I’m doing before making a move for the later games.

Should I Drop Shepard for a K? Lutz, Walsh, and Gano available.

    Here’s my roster:
    QB. Kap
    RB. TyMont
    RB. McKinnon
    WR. Evans
    WR. M. Jones
    TE. Barnidge
    FL. Duke J
    D/ST. AZ
    K. Gostkowski
    B. Brady
    B. Cobb
    B. Shepard
    IR. D. Lewis

    Thanks!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Pugs & Slugs: Yeah, I think it’s okay so you don’t punt a position. Go for the points.

      • Pugs & Slugs says:
        (link)

        @Jay: Thanks!

1v1 league and deciding on 2 of the following four: Gordon, McCoy, Ajayi, or Gurley?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Cheeeeeeze: I’d say go full ceiling here with Ajayi and Gordon

  20. Split decision says:
    (link)

Moron if I started tyreek hill over Maclin? Ppr

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Split decision: Naw, I think you could make the argument. That being said, still probably going Maclin here.

  21. Oppo Taco says:
    (link)

Cobb is killing me. Duke Johnson vsDALLAS or DuJuan Harris Vs Saints. .5 ppr.
    thanks!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Oppo Taco: Cobb has been killing us all. I’d go Duke Johnson there.

  22. PaulZone says:
    (link)

Ingram or Harris i a PPR?

    THANKS!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

      @PaulZone: Ingram, no probs!

  23. Old Dirty says:
    (link)

I asked a similar question earlier in the week and wanted to see if you had the same opinion.
    1/2 point ppr keeper
I can trade a 8th round pick for C. West. If he doesnt start West, he has to start DeAndre Washington. (I’m the Ware owner) So basically, its a defensive move.

I am in need of a win, sitting at 3-4-1 and trying to grab the last wildcard. Do I trade the 8th rounder or do you think I’m good with the lineup that I putting out? Line-ups are below.
    Qb – ryan (28)
    rb – crowell
    rb – freeman (12)
    wr – evans (32)
    wr – AB
    TE – gates
    K Hauschka
    D – Carolina
    Projected 130

I am playing an owner who has:
    Newton
    T. West
    C. West
    Diggs
    Allen Robinson
    Pitta
    Matt Bryant
    Seattle D
    Projected 93.2

    Thanks!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Old Dirty: I’m comfortable here. I think I downgraded Pitta today too with Smith back.

  24. Quick Sycamore says:
    (link)

I am in Bye week hell right now, but I’ve managed to plug almost all my holes. Right now I’m still down a Wr, so here are my options as I see it:
1.Drop the jets Defence for a WR and play without a def. The WRs available are in the 30-40 range in your rankings.
2.Drop the Jets Defence for Miami based off rankings
    3.Stand Pat
    Any advice would be helpful!

    • Quick Sycamore says:
      (link)

@Quick Sycamore: ps not in a PPR league, we do get extra points for touchdowns but more negatives for fumbles. It’s a FAAB league and I keep getting outbid for players constantly, but everyone on Sundays are free agents.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Quick Sycamore: If you have to punt a spot, punt DST for sure. Get the WR with the highest ranking I believe.

      • Quick Sycamore says:
        (link)

@Jay: Yeah that’s what I did, I took Cole Beasly.

  25. Pete says:
    (link)

    a) Given he’s starting, ok to do DuJuan Harris over Jennings in PPR?
    b) Flex McCoy over Gore in PPR? I grabbed Prosise to plug JIC no McCoy on Monday.
    c) On another PPR team, I’m planning to play Gore and McCoy and sitting Maclin. Do you agree? I have Gilislie on this one to plug if no McCoy.
    d) Play Coleman over Marvin Jones in PPR? I have Pryor too so I like the target hedge factor.

    Thanks!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Pete: In PPR, yeah, that’s fine. No, I’d still go Gore there. And on C, that’s cool, yeah. And sure, I think they’re close enough to do that.

  26. Ryan says:
    (link)

    A. Cooper or t. Pryor? half ppr

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Ryan: Pryor is the floor, Cooper is the ceiling. I’d go Coops here.

  27. Clyde Prompto says:
    (link)

I’m in total agreement with what you wrote above. I used look forward to Sundays, and planned my week around sitting somewhere with friends, food, and booze, and letting the wave of football wash over me for a few hours. These days, the games are basically a fallback option if I can’t find something better to do. If it weren’t for fantasy, I’d be an extremely casual fan at best.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Clyde Prompto: Yeah, totally a strange thing that’s happening. Makes you wonder why they can’t figure it out…

  28. PaulZone says:
    (link)

    So Britt or Steve Smith?

    0.5 ppr

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

      @PaulZone: Smith here I think.

  29. Hometown Heroes says:
    (link)

    Coates or enunwa standard scoring?

  30. William Hung says:
    (link)

Rolling 3 deep in the SF / NO game with Kaep, Harris, and Hightower – as long as each team scores a ton, I think I’ll be in good shape. Long live Pigskinator!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@William Hung: Haha, good luck. That looks scary though.

      • William Hung says:
        (link)

@Jay: Good thing I did not pick up Tannehill, at least at this very moment, Kaep gives me a glimmer of hope.

Too bad the guy I’m facing has Ajayi, OBJ, Forte, and Manning so I’m in a huge hole since I got nothing out of Jennings and Landry

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@William Hung: Yeah, tough matchup, but lets see how Kaep does.

          • William Hung says:
            (link)

@Jay: Looks like my 3 headed monster of Harris, Kaep, and Hightower delivered… unfortunately he had an obscene # of TDs so that’s another loss for this bad luck crew.

            • Jay

              Jay says:
              (link)

@William Hung: Tough luck year overall yo. Can be frustrating to do it this way as well, having a pretty strong team.

  31. Zandy says:
    (link)

I’m an idiot and put my questions in the wrong post haha.
I’m rolling with Wright BC of Cobb uncertainty. Had to drop Barber. Oh well

What drove inmans higher ranking than wright ultimately?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Zandy: Yeah, that’s fine. And I think we’re hoping that Ingram gets the snaps. I’m nervous, no doubt.

      • Zandy says:
        (link)

@Jay: in it to win it baby

        • Jay

          Jay says:

Sup Mayn… Someone wants to trade Odell.. My receivers are
    A Robinson
    E Sanders
    Michael Thomas
    Moncrief
Which one would you bunch in with Crowell for him?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Frank White: I think you’d have to include ARob or Sanders, and I think either is fine.

      • Frank White says:
        (link)

        thnx

  33. Zandy says:
    (link)

Cobb is active. Go Cobb or Wright? I assume Wright

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Zandy: Yeah, I’m buying Rudy on Wright this week, just to see what happens.

  34. porzingod says:

      I’m fine hoping for Cobb.

  35. Pete says:
    (link)

i’m lagging and may need some upside. you still think gore is a better play over mccoy?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Pete: I’d call him the floor and McCoy the ceiling here if you want to buy that risk. I’m probably still sticking with Gore, but if you feel like you’re against the wall, I think it’s okay to switch them up.

  36. Pete says:
    (link)

thanks. i think I’ll take your advice on Gore. I still have Rivers and Booker who could give upside as it is.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

      @Pete: That’s true, I like both today.

  37. Frank says:
    (link)

Yo! Need some good fantasy vibes on my side I don’t have a good feeling about this matchup so far, Derrick Henry’s goose egg is killing me . However right now I have gordon, Hilton, moncrief, Chargers D, mason crosby &a Derrick Henry going now. Then Emmanuel sanders tonight. Tomorrow i have doug Baldwin.

My opponent has left Mariota now, LAT Murray tonight then Seattle D tomorrow.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

Sorry! Just saw this, but vibes away! I like Lat a bit today, underrated maybe. Or crazy.

      • Frank says:
        (link)

That’s what I’m worried about lol Denver has given up yards to RBs

          (link)

          @Frank

Before the 8:30 SNF game locks up, hang onto Bibbs or drop for someone who had a bye; thinking JJ Nelson or zach Miller (I have Rudolph) thinking of dropping Rudolph

          • Jay

            Jay says:
            (link)

              @Jay:

I don’t have miller I would be adding Jj Nelson or zach Miller by dropping Bibbs

Hey, Jay. Thoughts on Landry for ros? Upside is limited due to lack of Tds and qb, right? Should I try to move him for someone like Demaryius, Moncrief or even a Tyrell Willams? Thanks!

@Jerry: Yeah, I think I’d move him now for either of those three. But in that order.

is jennings a drop or a hold? I’m thinking of straight up dropping him for Perkins and rolling with the upside

@William Hung: Yeah, I think that’s fine at this point. One of my misses this year I think.
