Week 3′s rankings contain some unprecedented highs and lows. Forging through the IDP frontier takes fortitude, moxie, and hopefully a solid smartphone/laptop to add and drop players periodically. So, let’s briefly blast into an index of guys that tenaciously defend television’s superimposed yellow first down marker while scoring fantasy points in the process:

Backers in the front let your feet stomp:
James Anderson/Dan Connor (CAR) – With Beason and Davis unthinkably gone for the year after 2 weeks Anderson and Connor move into the top 30.
Nick Barnett (BUF) – Racking up tackles like Jack Bauer racks up “Damnits” in high-scoring Bills shootouts.
Sean Lee (DAL) – The “Linebacker U” product looks like a top 10 tackler out there on Sunday, Monday and the occasional Thursday/Saturday.
Captains of Morgan:
Morgan Burnett (GB – DB) – Nick Collins is now on IR and I’m putting a boat load of chips on Mr.Burnett’s IDP number the rest of the way.
Derrick Morgan (TEN – DL) – Only one game back and I’m already throwing him in the top 20? Indeed, his upside and price are worth the risk, so take off your glasses and get in the pool!

Man, you gotta get The king of POP! Michael Johnson DL CIN in there somewhere. Dude is a freak and is legit. Otherwise. I dig.

Haha Yea, Jackson would be the technical name match but nice reference. Johnson did have a big game last time out and I see him bang/bust from here out. Also, I think Y! only logs him as a ‘backer, so keep that in mind. Thanks for the comment!

What about Jamar Chaney (PHI)? He’s moving to MLB this Sunday.

Picked Butler over Chaney this week, but still really like Chaney’s upside. Thanks for the feedback!

What is the deal with David Hawthorne? Ive been reading a lot of hype but he hasnt produced. He is on my bench right now but there are good players available. Would you drop him or wait?

Bench/Hold Hawthrone in deep leagues, but might want to look elsewhere in shallow leagues. Denver’s Woodyard might be a good gap filler.

I have Willis and Mayo. I’d like to fill the 3rd spot and hopefully set it and forget it for the season.
    Tackle Solo=1, Assist=0.5, Sack=2, Int=2, Fumble Force=1, Fumble Recovery=1, Def TD=6, Safety=2, Pass Defended=1, Blocked Kick=3, Return Yards 30yds/1pt, Return TD=6

    Mason Foster
    Patrick Peterson
    Navorro Bowman
    Rolando McClain
    Wesley Woodyard
    Nick Barnett
    Patrick Chung
    Laron Landry
    Jamar Chaney

I have Peterson, who’s gotten decent numbers, thanks to returns. I’m worried about consistency every week. I know that some of these guys are in there thanks to other injuries. Who do I pick for the rest of the season?
    Thanks!

Lots of interesting names here. Landry long-term, and the lower upside short-term high tackle contributor is Barnett.

Bowman is a great upside grab. He could outscore the pack, health permitting, at his current pace.

hey brodes, love the site! ive got these settings:
    Tackle Solo=2, Sack=2, Int=2, Fumble Force=2, Fumble Recovery=2, Def TD=6, Safety=2, Pass Defended=2, Blocked Kick=3, Return Yards 10yds/1pt, Return TD=6
ive got Willis at LB this week, along with Burnett at DB but my dilemma is my D position. ive got Tyvon Branch ( who has been a disappointment so far) but should be solid against a run heavy jets team. And i also have Desmond Bishop who is a tackling machine… Who would you choose? Bishop or Branch? Thanx for the help! Your site is right up there with IDP Gurus!

Thank you sir! I like Bishop at 2 points a tackle as the more reliable start. As you mention, Branch is due to log a top 5 game but the more predictable points reside with Bishop.
