Week 8 Positional Rankings

DocOctober 28, 2010 Category: 2010 Fantasy Football, 2010 Weekly Rankings, Chet Gresham

I’ve got a new fancy-pantsed gadget here that I’m trying out. Tell me whatcha think?

(Doc’s note: I’ve added all positions. You should be able to choose the position you want to see in the upper left)

    Looks damn good.

  2. # 2 Wilsonian Says:

    Ok, so yesterday I made an offer of Big Ben and Moreno for Foster. He comes back at me with Big Ben and Best for Mendy. While I’m very happy to take Mendy in place of Best, I feel like I should possibly get someone else from him or offer Moreno instead of Best. What do you think? This is my current team (leaving out Defense and Kicker):

    Rivers, Ben, White, Wayne, Marshall, Boldin, Colston, CJ, DMC, Best, Hillis, Moreno, Keller

    We play 1 QB, 3 WRs, 2 RBs, 1 TE, 1 W/R, 1 K, 1 D, 2 IDP and we’re 0.5 PPR

    These are the available QBs: Stafford, McNabb, Henne, Fitz, Cassell, Young, etc.

    In his offer, he was dropping Cutler (he also has Flacco)…so would it be worth it to counter with Ben/Best for Mendy/Cutler or Flacco? Or should I offer Ben and Moreno for Mendy? I have Rivers, so the only week I would need Cutler or Flacco would be 10. Is Mendy enough of an upgrade over Best to make this worthwhile? Obviously I like Ben over Flacco and Cutler.

    Thanks Doc.

    Mmmmmm….scroll bar

  4. # 4 Dominic Says:
    October 28th, 2010 at 9:03 pm

    @Wilsonian That team is redic, you should dominate the way it is.

  5. # 5 Wilsonian Says:
    October 28th, 2010 at 9:12 pm

    @Dominic: funny thing is, I’m in 2nd place. I have the most points scored, and the most points against. I swear even fantasy teams get up for big games. Last week I lost to the guy in last…he had his best total of the year. He’s also the only team that coulda beat me.

  6. # 6 Doc Says:
    Doc October 28th, 2010 at 9:23 pm

    @Black Beard: Thanks, we’ll see if it sticks.

    @Wilsonian: I’d go for Best/Ben for Mendy/Flacco.

    @Dentist: Hah

    @Wilsonian: That’s why I’m doing some cumulative scoring leagues next season.

  7. # 7 Doc Says:
    Doc October 28th, 2010 at 9:23 pm

    I’ve put all of the rankings in this one post. What do you think of this format?

  8. # 8 Jonesy Says:
    October 28th, 2010 at 9:32 pm

    What? This thing isnt working! Ryan Fitzpatrick only 14!!???
    Oh… you meant the new widget? …Uh yea dude, that’s working great :)

  9. # 9 Lou Says:
    October 28th, 2010 at 10:01 pm

    not a fan of the new format. can’t use my “pickemfirst” gadget

  10. # 10 Shippity Says:
    October 28th, 2010 at 11:47 pm

    I honestly prefer the simplicity of the old format but I’m a minimalist. It’s sexier, but it makes iphone browsing a little more tricky – although not impossible by any means. If it’s easier on you or improves aesthetics to the point that it gets you more readers I’m all for it – if it’s more difficult and/or the effect on viewership is ambiguous I’d vote for the old.

    Where would Woodhead fall in your WR rankings for nonppr leagues where he has that eligibility?

  11. # 11 Shippity Says:
    October 28th, 2010 at 11:49 pm

    I do like all rankings in one post for sure though.

  12. # 12 emceeperiod Says:
    October 29th, 2010 at 12:08 am

    It must be broke. It says you have TO ranked 8. Ha ha. But seriously, it’s not bad, but I can’t scroll when I use the internet on my Droid, so the furthest down I can see is to rank 28. On the regular old computer though, pretty cool. Don’t have to look through 4 or 5 different posts.

  13. # 13 RonWashington'sStache Says:
    October 29th, 2010 at 4:39 am

    First of, I like the new rankings setup.
    With the news that Jacoby Jones is going to be returning kickoffs, in addition to his usual punt return duties, would you start him over Roy Williams in league that rewards return yards?

  14. # 14 frolfer Says:
    October 29th, 2010 at 5:39 am

    I like the new format! Much less clicking involved.

    PPR and carries get points as well.
    The problem I have is too many RB’s. I don’t have the roster flexibility that I need for upcoming byes, but I can’t decide who to dump.

    Keeping Rice, Moreno, Best, Lynch, Torain. Should I dump Ivory, Greene, or Ricky Williams (or even keep any of them? Blount is on the wire still)

    Also, is Crabtree worth holding onto? Thanks for the help!

  15. # 15 Wilsonian Says:
    October 29th, 2010 at 5:41 am

    @Doc: thanks…I think I’ll try that. Honestly, I’m not going to be too upset about my team without Mendy, as Dominic said “I should dominate with that team as is”. I would like him, however.

    Also, I’ve considered talking to the league about some changes. Right now, first place in the regular season gets their money back, but we might change it to the team with the most points in the regular season gets their money back.

  16. # 16 sos Says:
    October 29th, 2010 at 5:47 am

    New format good for computer, bad for Crackberry. Holmes, Woodhead, Branch, or Blount in my flex spot in a PPR?

  17. # 17 JTin Says:
    October 29th, 2010 at 6:00 am

    Good for a reference point…bad for commenting. It’s nice to be able to target a question/discussion around the rankings of the QBs, as opposed to all comments for all positions being lumped in one post.

  18. # 18 24hourjack Says:
    October 29th, 2010 at 6:25 am

    non PPR flexplay….

    Mike Williams(TB) @ ARI

    Dez Bryant vs JAX….

    Williams is more consistent,but Bryant is more likely to go off and have a huge day….

  19. # 19 Calogero Says:
    October 29th, 2010 at 7:37 am

    If Donald Brown is going to be out, how far up does Mike Hart move?

    If Brown’s a dreaded Monday Night GTD, would you still risk it and start Hart at Flex or roll with someone safer like Shonn Greene or Welker?

  20. # 20 MikeAdamson Says:
    October 29th, 2010 at 7:58 am

    like it.

  21. # 21 Doc Says:
    Doc October 29th, 2010 at 8:07 am

    For some reason when you click on the comment link it’s going to the weekly contest post! Gremlin infestation.

    @Calogero: If we know for sure Brown is out that moves Hart up quite a bit, but if it’s a GTD it’s much harder to play either with confidence. Let’s see what the news gives us first.

    @24hourjack: I’m leaning Williams

    @JTin: Thanks for the input.

    @sos: I can make it longer so it shows more players without scrolling.

    @Lou: What’s that?

    @Shippity: It does make it a bit easier for me to update rankings. Woodhead is a bit like welker in non ppr, but less so.

    @emceeperiod: Thanks for the input. Yes, it pains me to have him that high too!

    @RonWashington’sStache: Thanks and yes.

    @frolfer: Thanks, I’d drop Williams. I’d hold onto Crabtree. Let’s see what Troy does.

    @sos: I’m leaning Holmes. I like Blount, but we just don’t know what kind of workload he is going to get.

    I’m digging the new matchup widget. It’s a nice touch to the site.

    That’s all, just wanted to give some props (do people even say props anymore?)

    The new fancy positional gadget thingy is sick! Good job, it makes things so much easier than having to scroll through all the posts to find the different positional rankings.

    Thanks!

    the tool is sweet but it sucks not being able to read the rankings on my iphone :(

  25. # 25 dja Says:
    October 29th, 2010 at 10:50 am

    in a 14 team league (2 wr, 2 rb, 1 flex) i’m stuck with cutler as my sole qb. i picked up bradford for his bye but neither are a viable option for the rest of the season really.

    another team has offered orton up for trade.

    my wr: jennings, colston, britt
    my rb: arian, mcfadden, beanie, deangelo, marshawn (plus fred jackson and spiller)

    who would you prefer to get rid of for orton (if anyone)?

    i’ve offered marshawn but it was denied. i’m really sick of colston and deangelo but i feel they might still be too high of a price for orton. should i sell high on britt?

    need your advice, oh wise ones.

  26. # 26 Wilsonian Says:
    October 29th, 2010 at 11:00 am

    Santonio Holmes was just dropped in my 12 team league, would you make a waiver claim on him, and who would you drop out of this bunch?

    Cutler, Fitzpatrick, Wayne, Austin, Ward, Williams (TB), Dez, Torain, Morneo, Beanie, Blount, Bradshaw, Keller

    We play 1 QB, 3 WRs, 2 RBs, 1 TE, 1 W/R flex

    Thanks.

  27. # 27 Dan Says:
    October 29th, 2010 at 11:07 am

    Where do you rank Tarvaris Jackson if Favre is ruled out?

  28. # 28 Lou Says:
    October 29th, 2010 at 11:15 am

    pickemfirst is actually a great gadget for fantasy leagues. im not affiliated with it so im not plugging myself. its puts icons next to every players name. colors of the icon indicated if theyre owned or not. but either way it doesnt work with your new format.

  29. # 29 Doc Says:
    Doc October 29th, 2010 at 11:16 am

    @Dan: Favre is going to play it looks like. I’d put TJax in the top 20.

    @Wilsonian: I’d like to grab him, but i don’t see who you can drop there.

    @dja: Do you think you could get him straight up for Britt? I would do that for sure.

    @dja: It’s messing up the comments link so I may have to scrap it for now anyway.

    @B.J.: @TheJVP: I like it too, but it’s messing with that comments link for some reason.

  30. # 30 nostrathomas Says:
    October 29th, 2010 at 11:16 am

    Latest news is now that D. Brown is going to practice today, and should be available Monday night. If he’s able to go, would you start him or Hart? I’ve got both, but I’m worried Brown will start and then come out with a pulled hamstring later on. Your thoughts? Or would you avoid this all together and start R. Mathews over them?

  31. # 31 Wilsonian Says:
    October 29th, 2010 at 11:32 am

    @Doc: yeah, that’s kind of what I was thinking too. I couldn’t find one. Blount was the ONLY possibility, but I’d kinda like to see if he takes over the majority of the carries and ends up being a solid, bruising back. And not that Holmes has shown the same repoire with Snatches as he had with Ben.

  32. # 32 dja Says:
    October 29th, 2010 at 11:50 am

    i’m not sure i can get orton straight up for britt. would you do run dmc for orton? or deangelo?

  33. # 33 Cullen Says:
    October 29th, 2010 at 1:41 pm

    In a PPR league (a point per) I’m really stuck this week with who to start. I can play 2 RB’s, 2 WR’s, and 1 flex

    My options are:
    RB Jahvid Best
    RB LaDanian Tomilson
    RB Jamaal Charles

    WR Percy Harvin
    WR Hines Ward
    WR Steve Smith (Car)
    WR Mike Williams (TB)

    I think I should use a WR for the flex since they can get more points but I don’t know which two RB’s to play and which three WR’s. Thanks!

  34. # 34 hacienda Says:
    October 29th, 2010 at 1:54 pm

    Agree with the comments above on the new format: awesome on the computer, not as awesome on the iphone.

    Anyhow, given Floyd’s injury (and the impending return of VJax) would you drop him for Steve Johnson?

  35. # 35 trick dad Says:

    Cutler, Stafford or Eli for the rest of the season?

  36. # 36 Fathomer Says:

    Seconding what @Lou mentioned. New format looks nice, but no longer works with Pickemfirst.

    Moeaki against the Bills or Cooley against Detroit?
    And should I keep Green Bay D/ST or pick up Seattle, NYG, or Detroit Defense instead?

  39. # 39 Doc Says:
    Doc October 29th, 2010 at 2:55 pm

    @nostrathomas: I’m a little worried about picking the right guy there. I am leaning Brown, but I could see going with Mathews.

    @dja: I would Deangelo, but not DMC

    @Cullen: I like all of those RBs for PPR this week, so I would start them all. Then I would lean Harvin/Ward

    @hacienda: I wouldn’t. Floyd has some nice matchups coming up.

    @trick dad: Eli

    @LMack: Thanks

    @Fathomer: I’ll have to check it out

  40. # 40 Doc Says:

    I like the new format, but your list is killing me…

    I have to choose between Schaub and Big Ben in one league, and Stafford and Kitna in another.

    You’ve got them so close together…help a brotha out. Thanks.

  47. # 47 Lou Says:
    October 29th, 2010 at 7:54 pm

    Miles Austin, Percy Harvin, Larry Fitz, Mike Wallace. I have to reluctantly bench 1 of these guys. Narrowed it down to the latter 2 but the PPR format is nudging me to sit Wallace. Whats your take?

  48. # 48 Doc Says:
    Doc October 29th, 2010 at 8:44 pm

    @Lou: Agreed.

    @Commish Cauda (formerly Mike): I’m leaning Schaub and Stafford.

    @Christopher: @Randy: @bfeels: Thanks!

    @Sunny: I’d lean Seattle

    @Christopher: Agreed

    Pick 2 RB : Torrain, J.Charles, Best?

    Pick 2 WR: Larry Fitz, Jennings, Moss?

    Thanks

  52. # 52 Doc Says:
    Doc October 29th, 2010 at 9:46 pm

    @Kibbles and Vicks: Torain/Charles/Fitz/Moss It’s tough because Best could blow up, but I like the other 2 just a little more.

  53. # 53 Manamongst Says:
    October 29th, 2010 at 11:47 pm

    I think St Louis will put up more points than Tampa, they won’t have the problems moving the ball in Arizona, and additionally I think they will commit to Beanie this weekend. So I would swap the two teams, Matt Moore will have problems indoors. Steve Smith has gotten worse on turf…lets hope he stays healthy.

  54. # 54 Manamongst Says:

    Stafford or Fitz?

  56. # 56 Anon. Says:

    What are your thoughts Owen Daniels this week? Reports show he was limited in practice and the matchup not that great. I’ve got him starting right now, but am rethinking that right now. There are some decent, but not great options on the waiver wire like Pettigrew, Shiancoe, Gresham, Quarless, and Tamme. Picking up one of these guys also means dropping Owen Daniels.

    What are your thoughts?
    Thanks.

  57. # 57 Doc Says:

    @Anon.: I am feeling risky with Tamme.

  58. # 58 Mo Says:
    October 30th, 2010 at 3:57 pm

    Hey Doc. Still owe you that whiskey.

    Boldin (and five other guys on my team) is on a bye, so my one fairly reliable WR is out.
    Austin fits the “don’t bench your studs” mantra for at least one more week, although he’s KILLING me.

    So, I need one WR and one flex from this group…
    Mike Williams (Sea.), Nate Burleson, Lee Evans, Fred Jackson

    Could also pick up Blount, Anthony Gonzalez, or Mike Thomas

    Thank you, you’re the only person I trust for advice!

  59. # 59 Andrew Says:
    October 30th, 2010 at 5:33 pm

    Which two to start?

    James jones, jacoby jones, or eddie royal?

  60. # 60 Doc Says:
    Doc October 30th, 2010 at 6:33 pm

    @Mo: Hah, thanks. I’m a little worried about Asomugha on Williams so I am leaning Evans and FJax. It’s not optimal, but I like the odds for them a little better.

    @Andrew: Jones squared

  61. # 61 Commish Cauda (formerly Mike) Says:
    October 30th, 2010 at 7:07 pm

    Mike Williams (Sea) or James Jones? 0.5ppr

  62. # 62 Manamongst Says:
    October 30th, 2010 at 11:38 pm

    So is Blair White a smarter play than Roy Williams at this point?

    And if Blair White, will he be subbing for Gonzo or Garcon?

  63. # 63 Mo Says:
    October 31st, 2010 at 6:19 am

    Thank you Doc. I know – it’s an ugly week for my team. Luckily I play the worst team in the league (the guy drafted 3 QBs and is carrying two defenses).

    Manamongst – I live near Indy and word is Gonzo is good to go and looks ready to roll. This from the tight-lipped Colts, who don’t send out false information but normally don’t let out anything at all unless they have to. I am NOT a Colts fan, by the way, so this isn’t wishful thinking, either!

  64. # 64 Manamongst Says:
    October 31st, 2010 at 6:32 am

    @Mo & Doc:

    “I’m a little worried about Asomugha on Williams so I am leaning Evans and FJax. ”

    You know Doc, I worried the same thing when they played the 49er’s w/ Crabtree, but apparently he didn’t seem to be a factor as he doesn’t lock on to one receiver as much as he used to and they seem to play way more zone as well. I say play him, then again Evans seems just as good an option, especially with the Raiders coming off such a monster.

  65. # 65 Doc Says:
    Doc October 31st, 2010 at 8:15 am

    @Manamongst: Last week he was on Lloyd and pretty much shut him down. He’s not like Revis and shadows the #1 every time, but sometimes. And he should be lined up across Williams.

    @Manamongst: I’d go with Williams

    @Commish Cauda (formerly Mike): Williams

  66. # 66 Manamongst Says:
    October 31st, 2010 at 8:22 am

    Thanks Doc.
