Before we get this shindig going, I want to let the readers know this week we may or may not get a Hard Targets article. Our good man Tehol Beddict has some personal things going on – no jokes please – so please think good thoughts for him and fingers crossed we get to see his bright and shining articles later this afternoon and if not, well we’re all good with that too. Now that we’ve covered that base, lets get down to basics: the Patriots give up a lot of points. In particular, they give up a lot of fantasy points to opposing Tight Ends. They just happen to be facing off against Scott Chandler, a man who has already lit them up this year to the tune of 62 yards on 4 receptions to go with 2 touchdowns. I know, I know, it’s only one game. So let’s go back to 2011 when he had 5 receptions for 39 yards and a TD. Yeah, you like it now I can see. The best part about it? He’s under 50% owned in both ESPN and yahoo leagues currently so he might just be out there on waivers. Struggling with Kyle Rudolph? On the fence about Martellus Bennett? Well here’s your chance to enjoy the end line from your TE, if only for a week. Outside of Chandler, I even have another TE worthy of spot starting if you’re struggling in Anthony Fasano. Ok, I know, enough TE talk, let’s get to some other variances. Well I can say I love the match-up but hate how Miami is using Reggie Bush so he slipped this week for me. Meanwhile, I’m respecting the Texans defense a little more than others with Brandon Marshall becoming a low end WR1 this week while I’m giving Joe Flacco a chance to shine as a QB1 against a bad Raiders defense. Heck, I even have a Blaine Gabbert sighting in my top 20 QBs. Yeah, I’m probably gonna regret that one. But neverthewho, without further ado I give to you the weekly rankings for week 5 times 2…or 10 as it were. Sorry, got carried away with the rhyme there.
Fantasy Football Rankings powered by FantasyPros

Because of injuries (McFadden and Harvin) I am now facing the possibility of having to start T. Young, C. Johnson, and J. Bell (all Lions) in a PPR league.
I could sub out Ronnie Brown for J. Bell, but I like J. Bell better, especially with Brown facing the TB run defense. You have an issue with starting 3 Lions?
I’ve never been a big ‘I have 2 or 3 guys from the same team, I have to bench 1′ kind of guy if the offense is good. I’d play all three.
Why is Spiller so high on your list? Lemme break down my issue. I have D. Thomas in my flex (Welker and Marshall start) and Bush and J. Charles in RB start. Spiller is odd man out. Who would you bench?
New England’s defense isn’t that good, CJ can get involved in the passing game and he just gained over 100 yards total to one of the stingiest defenses when it comes to fantasy points for RBs in the Texans. I’d bench DT
10 Team league with shallow benches so lots of FA options. I picked up Rashard Jennings when DMC got hurt and planned to roll with him as a Flex this week. However, I could drop him for Jimmy Graham, Heath Miller or Owen Daniels. We can Flex TEs but don’t need to start one so most are ignored. What do you think? Here is the rest of my team:
QB Ryan
RB McCoy
RB Martin
WR Julio jones
WR Welker
Flex Jennings
K Sea Bass
DST Miami
BN Harvin
BN DMC
BN Morris
Jimmy Graham is in your FA pool? That’s unreal…yeah, grab Graham.
Good morning! (And advance thanks for your patience in following this…)
I have a dilemma that involves tonight’s TNF game. Due to injuries and BYEs, I have the following roster set to deploy this week:
QB – Tom Brady
RB – Doug Martin
RB – Rashad Jennings
Flex – Fred Jackson
WR – Malcom Floyd
WR – Percy Harvin
TE – Aaron Hernandez
D/ST – Steelers
K – Gostkowski
Bench – DeMarco Murray [Inj]
Bench – Pierre Garcon [Inj]
Bench – Randall Cobb [Bye]
Bench – LeGarrette Blount [Handcuff]
Bench – T.Y. Hilton [????]
Bench – Packers D/ST [Bye]
————————————–
The dilemma: Percy Harvin’s status. It’s looking like he might play Sunday, but I need to make the roster decision by tonight due to T.Y. Hilton being my only other rostered fill-in at WR this week. Hilton plays tonight, so if I roll the dice on Harvin and he’s ruled out on Sunday, I won’t be able to drop Hilton for, say, a fill-in guy like Davone Bess. Going the other way, I’ll be pretty annoyed if I use Hilton tonight (a dice-roll of its own) and come to find Percy active on Sunday. Soooo, what’s a conflicted guy to do?
Thanks!
@Chillmodious,
Due to Avery being active for tonight Hilton is not worth the gamble. Drop Garcon for a fill in that plays Sunday just in case Harvin does not play. Not sure what the free agent pool is like in your league but Garcon is wasting a spot on your bench as he is most likey not returning this season and even if he does will be very ineffective.
I strongly agree with Murph. Pierre has been listed out long term for quite awhile. He shouldn’t be taking up a spot on your bench.
@Sky, Gentlemen, thank you both! I made the move and grabbed Davone Bess. Other options were Golden Tate, Ogletree, and Ryan Broyles…but I think Bess is probably the safest for this week.
Agreed
I’ve got both Rice and Ridley going as my 2 starting RBs (also have P Thomas for FLEX) in a 14 team league….feelin good about it, given your #1-2 ranking!
This league is pretty standard, besides +.5 PPR. Chandler is a FA, and Pettigrew is my only current in-house option at TE. Would you drop any 1 of Pierce (handcuff), Vereen (handcuff), or Hunter (Gore is a bit injury prone) to make this potential 1 week upgrade at TE?
Yeah, no reason to sit on handcuffs. I’d drop Vereen for Chandler.
Sky has Turner in his top 10 this week…classic moment in Fantasty Football History.
@Murph, haha, the matchup made me do it!
Who would you rather roster, D’Angelo Williams or T.Y. Hilton?
@Chillmodious,
I wouldn’t unless you are desperate at RB. If you are looking at his 30 yrd TD last week as reason to add don’t. The play was blown dead because the sideline judge mistakenly called him out of bounds. Take that away and he is back to his old self with 5 carries for 7 yards. Only RB in Carolina to own is J Stewart and he is a weekly flex play at best. If Avery has trouble staying healthy over the next few weeks Hilton’s stock could rise.
@Chillmodious, Agree w/Murph
You told me earlier in the week to roll the dice on Britt in my flex spot, but now I’m running into a couple of issues with the possibility that Nicks may be out. How would you set this lineup? This is how it is currently set up with the available FAs in the pool:
QB: Ryan
WR: Dez
WR: Nicks
WR: Britt
RB: Forte
RB: LeShoure
TE: Witten
W/R: Felix
W/R/T: Graham
BN: DJax
BN: Titus
BN: Cobb
BN: Morris
BN: Newton
FA: J. Bell
FA: Reece
I’m tied for 3rd, but technically in 5th by 8 total points. I’m playing the guy in 3rd, so this is a big week for me and need to pull it off. How would you play it?
Looks fine to me. Don’t see you starting those FA over what you have. Put in Titus if Nicks is a no go
@Wilsonian, same league with 3 point bonuses at 85 yards receiving and 100 yards rushing; 6 point bonus at 135 yards receiving and 150 yards rushing.
Sup Sky?
1) Would you drop Vick for Freeman this week? I’ve got RG3 sitting pretty on bye.. kind of worried about RG ROS too.
2) Tough week for me, also got Fitz on bye, Harvin prob out, J. Gordon on bye (bench), and injuries to DMC and MJD. Who would you drop for LaFell – J. Gordon or the Pats D/ST (I’ve also got the Seahawks).
3) Last one – Bell over Jennings for FLEX?
Thanks!
Hey, FillyP, not much. Just livin the dream, as they say
1) Can’t believe I’m saying this but unless someone wants to get Vick from you via trade, I’d do that
2) Pats
3) I’d go Jennings
Injuries killing me. Im 4-5 and in 7th place…6 make playoffs.
Should I deal my DMC & Harvin for Matthews & Steve Smith?
In other words, do you think I get much out of Harvin & DMC over the next 3-4 weeks? I dont…could see DMC out for a while
Matthews would start at RB2 and Smith would be a matchups play at WR2 atlernating with LLoyd…
Think I gotta do it….
I don’t know what DMC is gonna do ROS if he has a high ankle sprain. For that reason I’d take the deal, though I’d loathe doing it.
Any thoughts on Maclin ROS?
Maybe a WR3. I wasn’t huge on him coming into the season but didn’t expect this. Think it has more to do with how bad the Eagles are performing than how bad he is but I wouldn’t be starting him until something drastic happens in Philly.
@Sky,
Yea I am disapointed as well I figured that Philadelphia would really get things going this year (a lot of people based their draft off the Eagles offense) looks like I picked the wrong bird as it was the Falcons who finally it got going offensively.
Yeah, it’s funny how everyone wants to blame Vick for the woes but it really has been a team effort at futility. I think some guys have given up. Did you see how many fights there were on the sideline Monday night? Lots of fingerpointing. I think Reid has to take a large brunt of the blame. If your team gets into the redzone 4 times and only comes away with 2 FGs and a pick 6 and barely any rushing attempts, that’s poor gameplanning.
@Sky,
Yes the team is a mess and completely lacks an identity. Reid is to blame mostly because of poor play calling but also in the way he structured the team. They spent the bulk of their cap on Skill offensive and Defensive players but left a depleted offensive line stranded and it has shown in the reduced rushing yards per game and the amount of hits Vick is taking. I mean when the Saints can get that much pressure on the QB you have a big problem. Reid might not be a bad coach but I don’t think he is a good fit in an offense that needs to be a little more conservative than he wants to be. Managment and coaching can have a devestating effect on a team no matter how talented as seen in Kansas City, Carolina, Dallas, and Philadelphia.
Bottom line signing big name players does not equal success in the NFL.
Need flex
Have Titus young and Maclin on bench..
But on waivers are Britt,Em sanders, Hilton…
Who do u like this week best?
Young missing practice….britt has been brutal…tough choice
Standard league
I’d give Britt a go, personally.
Good day keepers of the fantasy flame. I’m in need of advice. Do I start Luck against the lowly Jags or Brees against the mighty Falcons?. NFL.COM (who I don’t trust) projects Luck by 9 points over Brees in my standard league.
@TheMizer,
No way I could sit Brees for Luck. When it comes to Brees he is an every week starter regardless of matchup. I know the ATL denfense is playing well but this is a defense that Drew Brees knows better than any other QB not to mention the Saints D is so bad that they will be playing catchup the whole game against the high powered ATL offense. If you want to gamble on Luck with a low floor and high ceiling go for it but at least with Brees you know what you are getting every week. I would hate to be going into Sunday with only 10-12 points from my QB on a Thursday night game; it is truly a Risk/Reward situation.
Brees career tells me he’s the starter over Luck.
Would u drop maclin for britt ?
Ugh, toughie…what other WRs do you have on your team? I don’t like the idea but I do like Britt’s upside…in a vaccuum, I’d do it.
Yo Fellas, what’s going on??? When does baseball start?? Man, I can’t wait!!! I need some advice. I picked up both Dwyer and Redman over the last few weeks as bye replacements (with Mendenhall out) they have both been good plays when they started and it has worked out. This week I have Alf Morris on a bye and both Redman and Dwyer are both considered healthy and active. Which one should I start?? I have Rice as my numero uno and I have to decide which of these two Pitt RB’s will start and have a better game. What do you think? What would you do?? Thanks a million as always!!!
Ha, it ain’t even December! But I hear ya, long live fantasy baseball.
I’d start Redman still. Think he’s done enough the last two games to get the nod and make Dwyer the role player, at least for this game.
I was offered Cam Newton for Jason Witten.
My QBs are Phillip Rivers and Ryan Fitzpatrick, and my TEs are Witten and Jermaine Gresham.
What are your thoughts?
Thanks!
Given Newton’s upside, I’d take that trade
@Sky, Thank you for your input.
No prob, good luck this week!
Scam or Stafford ROS?
Stafford
I dropped Titus young for Britt…kept Maclin ..u agree?
Would’ve preferred Young there but I’m not a big Maclin fan. Not terrible.
Amendola seems really low this week, is it just the injury scare or just worried about the matchup with SF? Would you still have him behind Crabtree and E. Sanders in a .5 ppr even if he is definitely starting? Thanks!
Combo of injury and and a really bad matchup has him down the charts for me. Curious if he’s actually gonna be out there the full game if it turns into a blowout given he’s just getting back and I could easily see one. I could see Amendola above Crabtree above him in a PPR but really like Sanders if Brown is out. Great matchup vs KC.
Random question… I got paloszky(watever), the LB, goin against indy tonight. I said i wanted to switch him out but forgot.. roll with him or go get….
Mason foster vs SD, L timmons vs KC, tulloch vs MIN, lavonte david vs SD(16 tackles last week), J. Houston vs PIT, Hali vs PIT, Spencer vs PHI?
Any of those guys you like over polunzkyzkzxyzcky tonight? Thank you, and sorry for the lame IDP question!! Haha
Ha, not lame! Just typically not my thing. I’d stay with watcha got.
@Sky, i usually ask the cameleon guy but i gave up tryng to find his post.. something ur a little more familiar with here.
Pick three for my WR#1, #2 and FLEX… Miles austin, megatron, steve smith, leshoure, felix. I have all the wideouts in there now. Kinda wanna play leshoure in my flex tho.. but that means austin or SS gets the bench.. wat ya thinkin??
Hey Prezii, if you’re looking for his posts, I don’t know how you’re accessing the site but if you’re on a desktop browser, you can always find his most recent work here:
http://football.razzball.com/category/Fantasy-Football-Chameleon
Its under the 2012 Fantasy Football Features on the left hand side of the site. Hope that helps!
Oh and I could see sitting Smith for LeShoure…Denver not the easiest opponent for opposing WRs.
@Sky, im always on my phone man.. my computer is a piece so i dont even use that thing.. thats why its hard to go thru everthing and search. But yes that helps goin to the features! Thank you!!
And cool im gonna bench smith.. go leshoure! Member when i said last week “would be the week to play him”? Yeah i didnt.. smith and austin still did pretty good though, so no complaints! Still got the win! Good luck this week sky and as always….. Have nice day. (Russian accent)
Yeah, I was kinda thinking that was gonna be your answer. Assuming you just read directly off the twitter feed? Good things to know for us, actually. Wanna make sure content is easy to access.
In Russia, nice day has you? Yeah, LeShoure…man he bores me but can’t argue the matchups!
Should I start Rashad Jennings vs the Colts tonight over Ryan Mathews @ Tampa on Sunday in my PPR/PPRush league? I’m leaning towards Jennings because the matchup is good. But It’s hard to turn my back on my proven studs.
I’d do that.
@Principle Blackman, I also have JC Superstar, but the Monday night/Pittsburgh run D/concussion factors have me wanting to keep him planted firmly on my bench since I have other options.
Thanks, Sky.
@Principle Blackman, No problem; think you’re right to sit JC in this scenario.
Taiwan Jones taking reps in practice for the Raiders…worth an add or is this the David Wilson of the west coast?
@Murph, Yeah, I’ve added him in a couple where I have roster room. Don’t think his PT opportunity is as dicey as Wilson’s but the question is will the Raiders play from ahead enough for him to be worthy of playing most weeks.
Rank these 3 for this week please, quickly, and thank you :)
Shorts
Rudolph
Blackmon
@WhineSpritzer, Nevermind about Shorts, he’s clearly ahead of the other two. So who would you start Rudolph or Blackmon? I’m leaning Rudolph because I think he’s due against a bad D, plus, starting two WR’s from the worst offense in the league doesn’t seem like a healthy prospect.
Yeah, I’d give Rudolph a shot there. Just Ponder who’s been terrible, not him. Hopefully that ship rights this week.
Luck or Newton? fyi, league gives .15 points per completion
any new news on harvin?
ROS Luck or Newton? same league as above
You’re at a party and they have no IPA but only Miller High Life or PBR, what do you drink?
Luck this week but I’d still want Cam ROS. Completion percentages are about the same.
Harvin, I haven’t heard anything more than the usual coaching schlock of ‘he’s progressing’…all while not practicing. Honestly, they have a bye week following so he’ll have time to heal then. I think he plays.
Easy…toilet water!
@Sky, you dog
And I’m currently sipping a Boneyard IPA at a local bar, watching Luck get a little lucky…thinking I’m gonna need to suggest a sell after tonight’s game excluding dynasty leagues. Should have 2 INT and maybe 1 TD at this point.
@Sky, you are such a fancy beer snob…I got a date with some PBR later
Beer as an analogy to women: Sure, any woman is fine but I prefer mine not to have missing teeth and an eye patch. Plus you’re gonna spend money on them regardless. Might as well spend a bit more to enjoy yourself
@Sky, Beer as an analogy: Knowing I can get cheep beer anytime, like women that are easy to come by, but loyal for the little attention and effort I need to put out are damn fine by me. I’ll take my low maintenance dependable pickup truck over your high maintenance sports car any day.
here are some lyrics fancy boy:
If you wanna be happy
For the rest of your life,
Never make a pretty woman your wife,
So from my personal point of view,
Get an ugly girl to marry you.
A pretty woman makes her husband look small
And very often causes his downfall.
As soon as he marries her, then she starts
To do the things that will break his heart,
But if you make an ugly woman your wife,
You’ll be happy for the rest of your life,
An ugly woman cooks her meals on time,
She’ll always give you peace of mind.
Don’t let your friends say
You have no taste,
Go ahead and marry anyway,
Though her face is ugly,
Her eyes don’t match,
Take it from me she’s a better catch.
Did you just call me fancy boy? I don’t think I’ve ever been called that in my life. Don’t know if I should be insulted or just stay stunned and drunk from my Boneyard…
Of course, you got that from watching Mermaids all the way to the end so I think we can both take the advice of the other with a grain of salt.
@Sky, whats Mermaids?
just having fun, I am the hateful one you know.
stay drunk
Ha was just rolling with it. You see Mermaids is this Cher movie from the 90s that…wait, I’m on to you
@Sky, gotch ya!
In watching the youtube clip of that, it seems that Christina Ricci’s forehead has always been too big for her body. You’d think she would’ve grown into it eventually…
I have an opportunity to buy low on Sproles since his owner is in jam. Most of his value in my league is due to his return yardage – do you think I should still go after him, or do you think he won’t be returning kicks with a broken bone in his hand?
I think he regains his return role
Hey Sky,
For RB2 in a PPR I have the option of Felix Jones or Daniel Thomas. Jones obviously has some PPR appeal, but Thomas does have a good matchup and may get a TD.
For my Flex spot I have to decide between Nicks and Owen Daniels (battle of the injuries) or one of the RBs listed above. I was leaning on Daniels until this hip issue surfaced and Nicks has been severely underwhelming.
I’d go with both your backs personally
Hey Sky,
Would you mind explaining why you are so down on DMoore this week? I was seeing him as the only no brainer 3WR starter of my crew (Nicks, Bowe, LMoore, Amendola).
Ravens secondary is still pretty strong. They don’t give up much in terms of fantasy to opposing WRs. With Nicks’ health looking more and more drastic, I wouldn’t say he’s a bad call for this week as a WR3. Is this a PPR?
@Sky, Yes it is PPR. I was thinking Bowe (PIT shut down NYG completely last week) and Amendola have worse matchups then Denarius. Also, Amendola needs to prove his health as I’m not sure he has been getting hit in his limited practices. So I guess if Nicks health holds up I was leaning to go DMoore/LMoore/Nicks. Looks like you’d go Nicks/Amendola/Bowe from your rankings.
To be fair, they all have pretty bad matchups. I think NYG’s game last week was not just great defense but bad execution by the Giants. Eli has been floundering of late. Plus it’s Bowe and no one else. Even when he shouldn’t get touches he does. Amendola in a PPR league is just hard to say no to in my mind, even when the matchup is unkind.
I wouldn’t fault you for going Denarius, I just don’t trust Oakland’s offense enough to execute against a tough passing defense.
@Sky, Thank you for the in depth analysis. I agree that I am 0/5 on good matchups this week (forgot that LMoore has drawn ATL). Last week I was set up for a 40 pt victory that didn’t materialize, so hopefully the chaos that is FF will remain in effect this week. LOL.
You are right about Bowe being the one and only and 4th quarter garbage time should be in effect. After work I’ll try to look up more Amendola news to see if his health is good enough to trust. Have you seen anything compelling?
FF Chaos…it’s a world we all must live in and few survive.
I haven’t heard any bad news concerning Amendola. I don’t think either he nor Denarius have great days, though. Like I said, if you roll with Denarius, I wouldn’t blame you. Don’t really like either matchup is all.
What do you think about trading away Witten for Harvin? I’d downgrade to Keller at TE, but would gain a true #1 WR (once healthy) to go with my current group of Austin, Cobb, S. Smith, Jennings, and Manningham (play 2, plus a flex if better than Ryan Mathews). I’m all but guaranteed to make the playoffs, so I’m really just trying to make my roster as strong as possible starting Week 14.
I suspect the price/dropoff is too high here, but I’d love a second opinion. Thanks!
If you only play two WRs, you don’t need Harvin. You don’t even need Manningham. It’s a fair trade but not one that would help your team
I have to play Kerley this weekend. Should I pick up Sanders since Brown seems destined to sit out? I have Antonio Brown so wouldn’t need Sanders down the road. Other free agents are A. Hawkins, D. Jones, G. Tate, Heyward-Bey, Givens, Gibson, Broyles, Stokely; are any of these better than Kerley long term and close enough to Sanders this week to make it worth thinking about?
I like Sanders shot at having a good game vs KC. I’d give him a shot.
need 1 wr. Nicks, Bryant or Torrey Smith?
I have them ranked Smith/Nicks/Bryant in a standard and Bryant/Nicks/Smith in PPR in the weekly rankings above…
10 man PPR (assume everything equal).
Offered Colston, Hernandez and Dwyer
FOR
Julio, Bradshaw, Brandon Myers
For what it’s worth, some of my other players are Dougy Martin, Cobb, Spiller, Demarco Murrary, Bowe, Steve Johnson, RG3, Vick, Mike Williams. Thx
Don’t like Dwyer’s cloudy role moving forward. Even if Ahmad loses touches, he’s still a part of the Giants offense. I’d hold.
I’m assuming you like Josh Freeman more than Carson Palmer this week. Hard to sit Palmer after last week, though. I realize he faces a tough Raven secondary. Any thoughts? Thx
I ranked Freeman 7th and Palmer 19th above in the weekly rankings so yes, I like Freeman more this week.
Pick one (ppr)
Stevie johnson, mike williams or bowe
Thx
I ranked them Williams/Johnson/Bowe in the rankings the rankings above so I would pick Williams…
E, Need your help to drop 3 from my bench ppr 0.5 with ROS:
