2024 Must Have Fantasy Football Wide Receivers
A “Must Have”, for me, is a player that I do not want to leave my draft without rostering. Certainly, every draft will be different, but left up to me, I want all five of these WRs on my team. The names below are reflective of drafts I have completed and where I think I can truly acquire each player, so you will see names based on tiers, not just the top WRs.
- Player: A.J. Brown
- Team: Philadelphia Eagles
- Current ECR Rank (as of this writing): WR6
After the consensus Top 5 WR of CeeDee Lamb, Tyreek Hill, Ja’Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson, and Amon-Ra St. Brown, the next WR I think is most likely to ascend into the Top 5 is A.J. Brown. Even with Philadelphia struggling down the stretch in 2023, Brown still managed 106 receptions for 1,456 yards and 7 TDs. I think Brown has just scratched the surface, and he is in store for a monster season. He and Jalen Hurts have kissed and made up and defenses will need to respect the running game with the addition of Saquon Barkley. I like Brown at this ADP and drafting him means I can come back with a slightly higher ranked player in my next tier that I must roster.
- Player: Davante Adams
- Team: Las Vegas Raiders
- Current ECR Rank (as of this writing): WR16
I love this football player! He is overlooked almost every season, and all he does is put up WR1 numbers to show his haters he is still there. Sure, he is getting older and yes, he plays for a bad football team with two QBs (that means his has no QB), but dude is QB independent always ending up near the top of the leaderboard when the season is over. Let others sleep on him, and you can have him as your WR2 knowing you are going to collect on his 6-year average of 105 receptions for 1,328 yards and 11.5 TDs. Just look at those numbers again! Those are WR1 numbers you can obtain for WR2 pricing. Others available in this range: DK Metcalf, Jaylen Waddle, DJ Moore
- Player: Diontae Johnson
- Team: Carolina Panthers
- Current ECR Rank (as of this writing): WR35
Nearing the end of Tier 3 (ECR) for WRs, you can draft Johnson, the PPR machine. TDs could be an issue as Carolina continues to try to get figure it out and get better. I believe we will see a return to the 2020-2022 Johnson where he averaged 153 targets per season. He appears over the drops and the 2022 0 TD feels like an outlier. Assuming Bryce Young gets better (can he get worse), then that spells positive regression for Johnson across the board. Others available in this range: Christian Kirk, Jayden Reed, Zay Flowers
- Player: Chris Godwin
- Team: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- Current ECR Rank (as of this writing): WR36
A return to the slot with another year of Baker Mayfield says that Godwin is headed back to the Top 20 WR zone. Right now, you can get him at a discount, and you should absolutely target him at the top of your Tier 4. Give me 90 catches for 1,150 yards and 7 TDs and Godwin becomes a league winner where you drafted him. The 7 TDs are asking a lot with Mike Evans on the outside, but the number is attainable. This is not about drafting by ADP or being safe as much as this is about grabbing upside and playing to win. Others available in this range: Rashee Rice, Courtland Sutton, Christian Watson
- Player: Joshua Palmer
- Team: Los Angeles Chargers
- Current ECR Rank (as of this writing): WR56
You can thank me later. Later = when the Chargers realize Quentin Johnston is not the guy, they have no viable TEs, Austin Ekeler and his receiving out of the backfield is gone, and Ladd McConkey cannot handle all the receptions. Palmer is not an exciting pick, but you need guaranteed points at every position and Palmer, with a healthy 2024 will return significant value every week for a player being drafted in the late Toer 5 of WRs. I look for 75 receptions for 900+ yards and 5 + TDs. Others available in this range: Jakobi Meyers, Rashid Shaheed, Khalil Shakir
