2025 Fantasy Football Winners & Losers: Quarterbacks
Each year we dissect the season that was. The ups and downs. The injuries. The new hotness. The free agent super signing. The big trade that did or didn’t pan out. The studs and duds of our fantasy football frenzy. This look back is essential before starting to dive into 2026. Who would you put in each of these categories and why? Comment below.
SEASON MVP
Josh Allen (Bills) – Sometimes we keep it simple. You drafted Allen to be your rockstar QB and he once again was. 10 Top10 finishes, three weeks as the QB1 and just four weeks outside the Top13. You expect excellence from your top picks. Allen gave you that.
1ST HALF MVP (Weeks 1-7)
Patrick Mahomes (Chiefs) – 25 fantasy points per game over Weeks 1-7 with five weeks of 25+ fantasy points. Josh Allen was at 23.7 points per game, but cost you a bye week in Week 7. Dak Prescott, Jalen Hurts and Drake Maye all averaged 21+ points per game during that stretch.
2ND HALF MVP (Weeks 8-14)
Josh Allen (Bills) – 26 fantasy points per game was five points per game better than Jacoby Brissett and Matthew Stafford (21 points respectively) in second over Weeks 8-14. Allen paced that timeframe with 183 fantasy points; or, 50(!) more than next best Caleb Williams
FANTASY PLAYOFF MVP (Weeks 15-17)
Trevor Lawrence (Jaguars) – The most important three weeks of the fantasy season (Weeks 15-17); PLAYOFFS!, belonged to T-Law with 33 points per game. Brock Purdy was just behind with 32 points per game, but did win championships with a week best 37 points in Week 17. I guess I’ll also mention that Mitch “Pretty Much Josh Allen” Trubisky led Week 18 with 29 fantasy points while Mr. Steinfeld sat in prep for the NFL Postseason
BREAKOUT
Drake Maye (Patriots) – Drafted as QB16. QB3 overall in points per game, QB2 in fantasy playoff points per game. 12 weekly finishes as a QB1. Four finishes as a Top 5 QB. Doubled his passing yards, passing touchdowns and rushing touchdowns in year two.
BUST (DRAFTED AS A QB1)
Lamar Jackson (Ravens) – This was brutal. Drafted as either the QB1 or QB2 in nearly all formats and leagues, Lamar just wasn’t “Lamar” after Week 3. Quick, guess how many Top12 finishes Lamar had after Week 3… three… Three Top12 finishes – QB9 against the Dolphins who he annually crushes. QB7 twice against the Steelers. Outside of that, he was a QB2 or worse and destroyed your team in the fantasy playoffs. Biggest concern moving forward is that he rushed for a career low 349 yards; 340 less than his previous career low.
SLEEPER (DRAFTED ROUND 12+)
Daniel Jones (Colts) – outside of Super Flex leagues, I’d be surprised if Jones was even drafted. For managers that took a dart throw on his “rushing upside” were pleasantly surprised with three Top12 finishes to start the season. He wasn’t necessarily dominant, but considering what the rest of your roster looked like punting QB to the 12+ Round, he was a great stable option until his injury in Week 15.
BEST DRAFT PICK VALUE (BASED ON ADP)
Matthew Stafford (Rams) – Drafted as a “late round QB” once again, Stafford broke the model this season. After three pedestrian weeks to start the year, he went off. From Week 4 through the rest of the season, Stafford was the QB1 overall. Eight times he had 25+ fantasy points. A career high 46 passing touchdowns and two of the best WRs in the NFL with Puka Nacua and Davante Adams. If Stafford returns in 2026, draft him!
ROOKIE STANDOUT
Jaxson Dart (Giants) – QB14 in points per game, but what if I told you he was basically Josh Allen… seriously. Dart missed three games and had one fantasy point or less and three others. Wild, I know. So, if you take the 11 games he produced and average that over 17 games, it’s 22 fantasy points per game, or… “Josh Allen” who sat out Week 18. I drafted Drake Maye as my “late round QB” everywhere last year. Dart will be that guy for me this season.
WHAT IF…
*takes a deep breath* Lamar Jackson, Jayden Daniels, Joe Burrow, Patrick Mahomes, Kyler Murray(?), Brock Purdy, Justin Fields, Michael Penix Jr. and Daniel Jones stayed healthy?
Lamar Jackson (BAL), Jayden Daniels (WAS), Joe Burrow (CIN), Kyler Murray(ARI) – all of these QBs finished between 16-17 fantasy points per game. Jackson missed four games and collapsed down the stretch. Daniels missed nine games and after Week 2 never really got going again. Burrow missed nine games as well, but made a valiant effort as the only one of this bunch to benefit you in the fantasy playoffs. Murray Was done for the season after Week 5. Jacoby Brissett stepped up in a mighty way in his absence however as the QB7 from Week 6 on.
Patrick Mahomes (Chiefs) – QB2 behind only Josh Allen at the time of his injury in Week 15. Rashee Rice was WR2 upon return from suspension from Weeks 7-14 behind only Jaxon Smith-Njigba. These two could be unbelievable next season if Mahomes recovers from his torn ACL.
Brock Purdy (49ers) – QB24 overall due to missing eight games. However, he was QB2(!!!) in points per game with 23 behind only Josh Allen.
Justin Fields (Jets) – QB22 in points per game and the definition of boom-or-bust in 2025. Fields had five games with 20-30 fantasy points, but fourth four with less than nine points (three of those are just four… four fantasy points. He did not play after Week 11.
Michael Penix Jr. (Falcons) – I had really high hopes for Penix and the Falcons this season. I picked them to win the NFC South. That almost actually happened, but not with help from Penix. He was QB31 in points per game and had just two games with 20+ fantasy points over the nine he played.
Daniel Jones (Giants) – QB7 at the time of his injury in Week 13. The Colts were the hottest team in the NFL to start the season with Jones and Jonathan Taylor absolutely ballin’. After Jones’ injury, the run game faded, the Colts called in Philip Rivers (retired five years ago) and they somehow missed the playoffs completely. Oof.
KEEP YOUR EYE ON ________ FOR 2026
Justin Herbert (Chargers) – Five Top5 finishes with his top two tackles out majority of the season. His top RB in Najee Harris out for the season. His new hope, rookie RB Omarion Hampton, missed seven games. His third RB Kimani Vidal missed five games and a promising receiving corps under performing all season. A healthy o-line, revamped passing catching unit, fresh running back stable and a new Offensive Coordinator coming in with archaic Greg Roman being fired sets up Herbert for a massive bounce back in 2026. I’m in.
