We’re in the final countdown. The NFL free agent negotiating window opens Monday, March 9, at 12 p.m. ET, with the new league year and the official start of free agency kicking off Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at 4 p.m. ET. The road to the new season has already been chaotic, featuring 10 head coaching changes, a wave of front-office shakeups that have pushed several players toward new homes, and our first real look at the 2026 rookie class during the NFL Combine.

The 2026 NFL salary cap is projected to land at $301.2 million, a $22 million jump from last season. Plenty of teams are entering free agency with money to spend, led by the Raiders with roughly $100 million in cap space. The Titans, Chargers, Commanders, Jets, Seahawks, Cardinals, Bengals, Steelers, and Patriots also sit near the top of the cap-space leaderboard.

So the big question for fantasy managers: which players are about to get the bag—and will their new landing spots boost or tank their fantasy value in 2026? Let’s see if my Razzball Sorting Hat can predict where this year’s top free agents will land.

Free Agents

  • Player: Kyler Murray
  • 2026 Team: Minnesota Vikings

Fantasy Impact — J.J. McCarthy might be the future in Minnesota, but the Vikings could decide the future can wait. After watching Sam Darnold win a Super Bowl elsewhere, Kevin O’Connell and the Vikings’ brain trust may pivot toward a proven veteran to keep this offense humming. Enter Kyler Murray.

Murray could sign for the veteran minimum while the Cardinals remain responsible for the bulk of his $35.5 million salary. That’s the kind of accounting trick that would make Minnesota’s cap situation a lot easier to swallow.

From a fantasy perspective, this pairing makes a ton of sense. O’Connell has consistently produced top-10 fantasy quarterbacks, and Murray has already proven he can live in that tier when healthy. With Justin Jefferson and company at his disposal, a 2026 top-10 QB finish isn’t just possible — it might be expected.

Bonus: The entire Vikings offense would get a fantasy boost with Murray under center.

  • Player: Rico Dowdle
  • 2026 Team: Seattle Seahawks

Fantasy Impact – Kenneth Walker III riding off into free agency after a Super Bowl MVP run would leave a massive hole in Seattle’s backfield. If that happens, Rico Dowdle could be the next man up in the Pacific Northwest.

Dowdle quietly put together back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing seasons and proved he can carry the load when given the opportunity. And fantasy managers certainly remember his midseason eruption — rushing for 206 yards in Week 5 and 183 yards in Week 6, finishing as the RB1 in back-to-back weeks.

If Seattle hands him the keys to the backfield, Dowdle could quickly become one of fantasy football’s biggest value picks. Expect him to take control of the Seahawks’ rushing attack and finish the year as a high-end RB2.

  • Player: Alec Pierce
  • 2026 Team: San Francisco 49ers

Fantasy Impact – Alec Pierce finally broke out in 2025, posting his first 1,000-yard season while leading the league with a staggering 21.3 yards per reception. The former Colt should have no shortage of suitors, with teams like the Patriots, Commanders, Raiders, and Titans likely to show interest. San Francisco might be the most intriguing fit.

If the 49ers lose Jauan Jennings in free agency and ultimately move on from Brandon Aiyuk, they’ll need another playmaker after locking in Brock Purdy long-term. Pierce would add a vertical dimension to the offense alongside Ricky Pearsall and George Kittle.

The biggest key for Pierce’s fantasy outlook? Targets. He has yet to eclipse 100 in a season. If that finally happens in Kyle Shanahan’s offense, Pierce could realistically push for low-end WR1 or high-end WR2 numbers in the Bay Area.

  • Player: Isaiah Likely
  • 2026 Team: New York Giants

Fantasy Impact – This might be my favorite free-agent fit on the board. Isaiah Likely has flashed upside in Baltimore, but was always stuck behind Mark Andrews. A move to New York could finally allow him to prove he’s a true TE1.

There’s also a potential reunion angle here. If former Ravens head coach John Harbaugh lands with the Giants, Likely following him to the Big Apple makes plenty of sense. Harbaugh even said last season that Likely has All-Pro potential — high praise for a player who has mostly played a secondary role.

With Jaxson Dart under center, Likely could become a go-to security blanket in a passing game that currently relies heavily on Malik Nabers. At just 25 years old, Likely might have the highest ceiling among this year’s free-agent tight ends.

And if things break right, he could crash the top-five TE conversation in fantasy.

Two-Point Conversion

  • Player: Tyler Allgeier
  • 2026 Team: Minnesota Vikings

Fantasy Impact – Minnesota’s running back room currently features Jordan Mason and Ty Chandler after the team moved on from Aaron Jones. That leaves a clear opportunity for a power runner to step in and take over early-down work. Tyler Allgeier fits that role perfectly.

The Vikings leaned heavily on zone rushing concepts last season, with both Jones and Mason logging more than 50% of their carries in those schemes. That’s right in Allgeier’s wheelhouse.

After spending the past few seasons spelling Bijan Robinson in Atlanta, Allgeier still has plenty of tread on the tires. If he lands in Minnesota and wins the starting job alongside Kyler Murray, a 1,000-yard, double-digit touchdown season is well within reach.

  • Player: Mike Evans
  • 2026 Team: New England Patriots

Fantasy Impact – With Stefon Diggs released, the Patriots suddenly need a new No. 1 pass catcher. Mike Evans could be the perfect fit if he’s looking to join a contender with a great quarterback. New England and Drake Maye check those boxes. Originally, Buffalo looked like the ideal landing spot — but the Bills’ trading for DJ Moore takes them out of the market. That leaves New England as one of the most logical destinations.

Evans may be entering his age-33 season, but betting against him has been a losing strategy for a decade. The future Hall of Famer has recorded 1,000+ receiving yards in every season of his career, and he could become the perfect veteran weapon for Drake Maye.

And if Diggs could post 85 receptions and 1,000 yards as a 32-year-old WR2, Evans absolutely has a path to similar production. Pencil him in as a solid fantasy WR2 with weekly touchdown upside if he ends up catching passes from Maye.
