It’s not easy finishing ahead of 54 others, especially in Fantasy Football. But like Jeremy Langford against a suspect Chargers defense, you emerged. Let’s see if you can do it again in Week 10, because I’m not hedging my bets on a repeat for Langford vs. the Rams. Quarterbacks
Tom Brady, NE – $9,100: Yep, I’m paying up for Gisele’s husband this week. The ‘Eff You’ tour won’t be taking any stops this week as he faces the one team that’s caused Brady the biggest tarnish to his legacy: the Giants. Their linebacking corps is weaker than a 6th grader’s game at a middle school dance. No clue. While his price tag is the second-most expensive, in a 55-team league you need a high ceiling. Don’t fall for the cheaper fliers, take the sure thing, and in Week 10 he’s as sure as it gets.
Honorable Mention: Blake Bortles, JAX – $7,800.
Running Backs
DeAngelo Williams, PIT – $7,600: Everyone and their mom may be targeting Williams in Week 10 vs. the porous Browns, but at his price tag he’s a must-own. Check out his stas in the three games he’s started at RB for Pittsburgh (Week 1, 2, and 9): 68 carries for 374 yards and 5 TDs (68/374/5). The pure, top-tier RB1 status. He carries the dreaded ‘Q’ tag through practice this week, but health pending, he’s the best value on the board.
Lamar Miller, MIA – $7,200: As mentioned above, the key to a league this size is mixing a high floor with a great ceiling. Miller represents that at a reasonable price this week. Against an Eagles rush D that has held it’s own, Miller will look to continue his pace from the past four games. Even with the Dolphins sputtering the past two weeks, Miller’s made it four straight with a TD, totaling 6 scores in that span. His stat line since the coaching change and BYE week? Even more impressive: 54/347/5. Add in the 17/182/1 in the receiving game and you have a player that’s accounted for 77 points in four weeks, an average of 19.25 per week, the highest of any RB.
Honorable Mention: Ryan Mathews, PHI – $5,600.
Wide Recievers
Allen Robinson, JAX – $7,500: The WR are really where you can save some money in Week 10. With some bad matchups (DeAndre Hopkins), bye weeks (Julio Jones) and QB injuries (Antonio Brown), many of the more expensive options are a little les attractive. No fear, though, because the next tier down has the best values, starting with ARob. Robinson has more than emerged this year in fantasy and for the much-improved Jaguars. Facing a weak Baltimore secondary, look for Robinson to continue his pace of 6 rec. and 97 ypg, while hauling in just under a TD. Great buy here.
Stefon Diggs, MIN – $6,500: Aside from Diggs ability to be the Todd Gurley of WR (former 5-star prospect, rookie, missed first few weeks, dominated first four professional starts), the reasoning behind his selection rests in two things: price tag and matchup. The combo of these two elements are the best tools for finding a smart play in DFS. Diggs is the 22nd highest-priced WR, but could easily bring back top 10 production against a Raiders defense that is suspect at best. Add to the equation how strong Oakland’s offense has looked and Minnesota will need to throw it around to keep up. It’s a perfect storm for Diggs in Week 10.
Jarvis Landry, MIA – $7,000: ‘The Target Monster of Miami’ (just came up with that) gets a favorable matchup and holds a relatively cheap tag for his return. Don’t sleep on the .5PPR scoring of FanDuel, as the receptions add up. In Week 9 Landry hauled in 11 of his 13 targets, good enough to essentially add another TD to his total. While the offense may have shifted to a more balanced attack with Lamar Miller, he does the most with what he gets (83% catch-rate past four weeks).
Honorable Mention: Brandon LaFell, NE – $6,200.
Tight End
Rob Gronkowski, NE – $8,000: While many will get cute and hope for a repeat effort from Tyler Eifert, I’ll take, once again, the sure thing in Gronk. He’s eclipsed 100 yards in half his games and scored in 5 of 8. Like I mentioned with Brady, the Giants defense is super suspect to the pass, and Brady should have a field day Sunday afternoon in New York. The past few weeks Julian Edelman and the return of Brandon LaFell increased the attention on the WRs. That changes in Week 10. That football’s gonna hurt after getting a Gronk-spike twice.
Honorable Mention: Jordan Reed, WAS – $5,800.
Kickers
Greg Zuerlein, STL – $4,500: Ugh…what I want to say here is who the eff cares? But, I’ll refrain. From saying it again. You gotta pick one, so who do you go with? Give me the cheapest option every time. Use your money elsewhere, and select the minimal Zuerlein as the Rams, at home, could run all over the Bears, giving you a decent floor from the boot.
Honorable Mention: Sebastian Janikowski, OAK – $4,600.
Defense & Special Teams
Tampa Bay – $4,000: Similar to K, I like to attempt saving some cash with the defenses. Tampa is the cheapest option, but actually has a decent matchup in the Matt Cassel-led Cowboys. I expect a turnover or two, while limiting Darren McFadden to under 100 yards. Save the cash here and look for a small drop in potential production from the bigger boys.
Honorable Mention: Denver Broncos – $5,200.
Now in case you’re not a math major, the values here don’t fully line up under the $60K budget given by FanDuel. That’s alright. Use some of the honorable mentions. Don’t like Gronk? Put in Jordan Reed to get back under the cap. If you’re cutting money somewhere I wouldn’t lose it further in the WR; it’s hard to find a good floor when you get cheaper with them.
