What a crazy Monday in the world of football.  So many names on the move once the league allows the formal, contractual signings.  I was dialed in all day, especially with the Wide Receiver position since that is the zone I have been working this off season.  Right out of the gate, I see the Michael Pittman, Jr. long-term extension and figure we are off and running.  Then some quiet until BOOM, Tee Higgins wants out of Cincinnati after rumors of being tagged and the inability of the two parties on an extension.  It was at this point I just knew I would be taking copious notes for this article.  Boy was I wrong.  The Wide Receiver market was not stacked with headliners to start with and the first day of the tampering period bore that out with only one big name moving zip codes (and temperatures).

Top Free Agent Wide Receivers

  • Player: Tee Higgins
  • Predicted Landing Spot: Cincinnati Bengals
  • My Rank (2024 ECR): WR19 (WR17)

I am leaving Higgins right here until I see a trade or some news to make me think he sticks with the Bengals.  Is there a team out there looking to overpay for a WR1?  Normally, I would place a team like the Carolina Panthers in the running for Higgins’ services, but that front office has proven incapable of making good NFL moves.  Think about the Brian Burns debacle that played out yesterday.  Last year the Panthers brass could have moved Burns for two first-rounders and passed on the offer.  On Monday they sent Burns to New York for a second.  #dumb

  • Player: Michael Pittman Jr.
  • Predicted Landing Spot: SIGNED – Indianapolis Colts
  • My Rank (2024 ECR): WR15 (WRB21)

Other than Pittman grabbing the bag, nothing too surprising to report here.  I am swapping Pittman for Higgins my overall WR rankings based on him being locked in with the Colts while Higgins’ status for 2024 is still up in the air.

  • Player: Gabe Davis
  • Predicted Landing Spot: SIGNED – Jacksonville Jaguars
  • My Rank (2024 ECR): WR46 (WR41)

Does this contract make Davis WR1 for the Jags?  Time will tell especially as it relates to the Calvin Ridley situation.  An interesting wrinkle from Ridley with the Jags is the Falcons will receive a second-round pick if the Jags resign Ridley before he becomes a free agent.  If Ridley signs after becoming a free agent the Falcons receive a third-round pick as compensation.  I would not be surprised to see Ridley officially hit free agency only to be brought back to Jacksonville as the WR1 with Davis slotting in as the WR2.  If that occurs, Davis might ascend my rankings, but for now, I am comfortable with where I have him.
