So can the Chiefs cut child arm-breaker Tyreek Hill now? The irony of seeing Tyreek in a sling on the sidelines should not have been lost on any of us. Though I’m not as all in on DeMarcus Robinson as I was last week on Marquise Brown and Terry McLaughlin. Kelce is still the #1 receiver in KC, and with Mecole Hardman and Sammy Watkins also splitting targets I feel like this is a situation where week to week some WR is going to get big numbers, but it’s near impossible to decide who, and that only gets murkier when Tyreek returns (and if you have an impatient Hill owner in your league who needs help now, see if you can pry Hill from them). Feels like the Rams; must be nice for those two teams, must be nice.

We have $100 crisp FAAB dollars to spend, who to spend it on? Let’s dive in the deep end and doggie paddle our way to the shallow end. It already looks to me like 25% of ESPN and Yahoo! Leagues are abandoned, so cut-offs are 50% owned (except for a couple)

*All ownership as of Monday 9/16

Wide Receivers:

$41 – Terry McLaughlin, WAS (51% Y!, 41% ESPN) He was the lede in this column last week so if you missed out you’re going to pay more now. The best WR in Washington and they know it. A crystal clear #2 until further notice. Add him up! (Same price for Marquise Brown, but he was way more owned so he doesn’t get his own specific mention, standards and all).

$19 – DeMarcus Robinson, KC (6% Y!, 1% ESPN) Big week; Mahomes likes him, so why don’t you? He’s a bye week fill-in for now but if you have the bench room he’s the perfect guy to stash (also if you didn’t spend any money week one).

$17 – Mecole Hardman, KC (40% Y!, 38% ESPN) Another big play guy mentioned in the lede. Same deal as Robinson.

$12 – DK Metcalf, SEA (49% Y!, 66% ESPN ) Looks like a solid replacement for Doug Baldwin, and Russ has targeted him 13 times over the first two weeks, with the potential for more. Yes, please.

$7 – Deebo Samuel, SF (14% Y!, 13% ESPN) Another guy who did well week two, and I like his upside much better than Marquise Goodwin (I hope you’ve noticed a theme about your bench. Better upside than floor guys. You shouldn’t be starting them until bye weeks, so why not take chances on upside, you know what I’m saying?).

$3 -DJ Chark, JAX (13% Y!, 22$ ESPN) and Chris Conley, JAX (4% Y!, 20% ESPN) – Solid week two for both, though too many decent WRs in Jacksonville and that’s before Marquise Lee returns.

$2 – Nelson Agholor, PHI (15% Y!, 4% ESPN) Depends on if/how long Jeffrey and DJax are out. He is always who we thought he is now its the version of playing time = fill-in WR3.

Running Backs: Injuries are already ruining some teams, but don’t fret, there are guys to go get.

$47 – Carlos Hyde, HOU (43% Y!, 45% ESPN) Hyde should be owned already in competitive leagues (and if you read last week I was not shy on him) but if not he needs to be on your team. Houston looks good this year so having leads and salting away the game is what Hyde does best.

$16 – Peyton Barber, TB (47% Y!, 64% ESPN)  Barber had a week two like those who drafted him expected. Jones II did not (though that was swapped week 1). Still, Barber is the RB to own in Tampa. Would rather have him than the next two guys (which is apparent as Barber costs more, duh).

$14 – Raheem Mostert, SF (16% Y!, 11% ESPN): I just can’t get excited about the 49ers. They are a really, really poor man’s Chiefs or Rams. The man is just too poor! I’d pay for him if you have shares of Brieda or Coleman just don’t expect 20+ points consistently.

$11 – Frank Gore, BUF (8% Y!, 16% ESPN) If Singletary’s hammy injury is serious, then go in on Gore. The only reason he did well is because of Singletary’s injury as the Bills were chewing clock, but Singletary’s removal seemed precautionary. I’m passing on Gore because he wouldn’t start for my teams anyway.

$8 – Jaylen Samuels, PIT (35% Y!, 25% ESPN) If you’re in a PPR league Samuels should already be owned. Damper alert! Conner says he’s healthy and should go this weekend. He’s a bye week FLEX fill-in even with Connor starting there so if you have a Mike Davis or similar on your bench, go get Samuels instead.

$4 – Darwin Thompson, KC (18% Y!, 19% ESPN) An upside handcuff for now but I like KC’s WRs much more (if you couldn’t already tell). If you own Shady and/or DWilliams on KC, could go a few bucks more on him.

$2 – Chris Thompson (48% Y!, 52% ESPN) Don’t love him for non-PPR but if you need a fill-in, you could do worse. Can you feel my excitement?

Quarterbacks: Sucks for the Brees the Big Ben owners and now here are some guys to replace them with that won’t cost as much but remember that you are bidding directly against another team (unless you own both and in that case my condolences). Furthermore, these are prices if you need a starter; if it’s a backup then bid $2-3 less.

$8 – Matt Stafford, DET (35% Y!, 26% ESPN) He’s a backup on a lot of my teams but he now must be in the mix. The Lions are still airing it out. His ownership numbers are too low anyway.

$6 – Josh Allen, BUF (40% Y!, 30% ESPN) Liked him last week, like him this week too, don’t think that’s going to change next week either.

$5 – Jacoby Brisett, IND (12% Y!, 12% ESPN): He has juicy matchups the next three weeks taking on Atlanta, Oakland and Kansas City. His cost will rise each week, so why not get him now?

$3 – Andy Dalton, CIN (19% Y!, 10% ESPN): The constant tease, I am not a fan, but you do you.

$1 – Jimmy Garopolo (do not like his upcoming schedule), Marcus Mariota

Tight Ends: None for me this week, not even Will Dissly, who is a fine bye week fill in but not consistent week to week and I don’t carry Tight Ends on my bench.

$1 Defenses: Streaming defenses works well, and here are some to put in a waiver claim for a $1 this week:

DAL vs MIA

SEA vs Brees-less NO

TEN @ JAX

BUF vs CIN

SF vs Big Ben-less PIT

Exercise Time! Just for fun I am tracking how $100 could be spent over the season. Last week my bids were accepted on McLaurin ($26), Josh Allen ($3) and Golden Tate ($4). That leaves $67 to spend. This week I’m bidding on Demarcus Robinson, Deebo and TEN D. We’ll see how that goes.

As always, any guys I missed mention in the comments and they’ll get a value, and if I messed up, you can comment on that too, but I won’t like it as much. Good luck on your bids this week Razzballers & Razzballettes!

Word dawg, thanks for the column. Paris Campbell looked bigger, faster, and stronger than TY Hilton. I know one catch is nothing special, but I’m planning for the future. Is he worth a bid for the end of bench if I miss on others? How much should I spend? Also, is now the time to grab Golden Tate with a bid? Or should I leave him to pasture? He’s getting a new QB when he comes back.

Campbell, a 200 lb WR running a 4.31 40? Yes, please. A lot of what I read had him as the #2 WR in Indy at some point this season. Funchess on IR only helps his cause. You shouldn’t have to bid more than $1, but I’d go two just in case. Better to be a week early than a week late.

I’d go low on Tate, like $5 at most, assuming most of the league doesn’t want to take the chance, especially with a rookie QB. But Tate is the clear #1 when he returns, and rookie QBs tend to focus on their #1 and/or TE, so Engram should be ok too.

I own Roethlisberger in a Superflex/$100 FAAB league. With Darnold (my backup going into the year)in my IR spot and none of the listed QB’s available, what values would you be putting on guys like Rudolph/Bridgewater/Jones/Minshew?

    • Phil B.

      Phil B. says:
      (link)

$16 Rudolph (I should’ve ranked him above – he has a great chance to be a productive Fantasy QB this year) (Could also see $21 or even $26, depending on your league history and if you still have the full $100)

$11 – Minshew – There were positives about his start vs a good HOU team; he ran well too.

$5 Bridgewater – I hope he does well as a fan, but as a fantasy player he sucks; how he couldn’t utilize Kamara on Sunday at all was terrible

$3 Jones – do not have a ton of faith in him, let’s hope it’s at least a Bortles (early years) situation that he gets to air it out a lot cause the team stinks. Might effect Saquon adversely, but the WR & Engram should be happy.

        (link)

bortles in fantasy in 2nd halves of some of his years was actually fantasy elite from the volume in garbage time and he was just bad for skills. skills wise though i’d put DJ over everybody, but i’ll be fair and assume NYG are just stupid enough to put eli back in again if DJ struggles, which with that team are easy enough (so not over minshew with def job nor rudolph). i’d still bid more on DJ in leagues where you need QB that much more than bridgewater. my 2 QB leagues he’s already owned, i own DJ already as my backup to winston in a redraft 1 QB 20 teamer.

how many of these would you put over mariota though, and how much of a bid, in super flex leagues? (minshew clearly gone already)

Mecole Hardman? Demarcus Robinson? Frank gore? Trey Quinn? DJ chark?

My RBs are DJ, cook, David Montgomery, Tevin Coleman , Dion Lewis, Mostert, Chris Thompson, Justin Jackson

My WRs are obj, thielen, Josh Gordon, Dede Westbrook, aj green, MVS, John brown

I have both Waller & hockenson

    • Phil B.

If you need him to start, I’d go $31; he’s Allen’s go-to (at least thru first 2 weeks) and has the speed factor as well. I only pause for the Buffalo factor, but they are looking a lot better than I first expected.

    My Starting roster:
    Juju

    Bell
    Mixon
    M. Andrew at TE
    Michel (flex)
    Bench:
    Fuller
    M. Williams

    Bernard
    D. Harris

Pass in 12 team or fewer. 3 reasons. 1) see if a guy like Rudolph is available, or another fill-in, since hoping that most teams only roster 1 QB and you can fill in until brees is back. 2) Jackson, while good, has played the Dolphins and Cardinals. I love him this year, but he’s at his highest point. 3) Depth at RB is lacking, and I feel more good things from Michel.

  7. Rabbit says:
    (link)

I am in trouble as I have Cam as my only QB in a deep league (14 teams) where most teams roster two QBs, so the QB options on the waiver wire are _thin_. How would you rank these available QBs (6 points per passing TD):
    Keenum
    Minshew
    Rudolph
    Flacco
    Bridgewater

Like I said, _thin_. From one of your answers above, I anticipate you will rank Rudolph first? (Another potential option is to use one of the above guys for the next couple weeks and then grab Darnold, who was dropped by his owner.) Thanks!

    • Phil B.

      Phil B. says:
      (link)

That is rough. Rudolph (good call), Bridgewater, Keenum, Minshew, Flacco. If Darnold was healthy I’d have him in front of Keenum, so I like him when he returns.

  8. Bad Newz Kennels says:

      (link)

Have to go $40 on Rudolph. $15 on Teddy B(hope the Brees owner bids a bunch for him), and $11 on Jones(if you need him then you need him). Rudolph I’m liking more and more, esp with Ben out the year.

    • Phil B.

      Phil B. says:
      (link)

The NFL might suspend him, but I also feel they let the Patriots see if they can reign him in, maybe why they fed him the ball so much. But if you can get a 2nd tier RB, like say Carson, Kerryon, Michel, Montgomery come to mind, I’d do it.

  11. Phil B.

    Phil B. says:
    (link)

Nah, a bit too much for me. Can you wait and see if Singletary is a go, and swap him with Mack? Cause I’d offer that. Or get the other team to throw in a back-end RB that you could use in a pinch. I do like trying to sell Gurley for a top tier WR, and if the guy has both why not get one.

    • Paul Zone says:
      (link)

Agree it’s a lot and leaves me thin. He offered Cooks or Hilton for Gurley. Didnt feel they were a big enough upgrade over Godwin and my other WRs. Agree?

probably fine since you don’t need evans for a while, unless one of those have early byes. if you drafted in a redraft evans/k.allen/godwin/kirk though you probably have serious RB issues. maybe kirk really fell i guess is possible. or you made some trade and/or it’s some kind of keeper league.

super flex dynasty, have goff, j.allen.tannehill (14 teamer where to me the most likely to start guy was tannehill, all the rookie QB’s that might start went in the earlier 1st round), drop tannehill for k.allen (CAR), already got waivers on guys i simply won’t get rudolph and bridge

          Phil B. says:
          (link)

I was gonna say on Tannehill; Anyway you have to go Allen, Cam’s looking out for a few weeks, and will Tannehill every play? Allen also has some weapons, so maybe he doesn’t totally stink it up while Cam is gone. Allen listed as #2 on depth charts I’ve seen, it would suck if Grier goes instead, but worth the minor risk

          • Super Terrific Carpal Tunnel Virusy Box vs Mail Robot (who wins?) says:
            (link)

grier not owned, so it’s possible i could beat people to him (i almost went grier over tannehill at the draft, but figured as bad as mariota and as injured as mariota usually is….), i did get k.allen here. the other QB’s went to higher waiver guys. one guy is now hoarding 6 QB’s here. thinks he’ll be able to extort value, i flat out told him just after draft i know what QB’s should cost and i ain’t paying it. meanwhile he’s got only njoku at TE (injured) and little depth elsewhere. some of these he’ll either
            1. be able to extort trade value (while hurting himself for some amount of time elsewhere)
            2. hurt himself badly with no depth and keep all of them (as nobody has been willing to pay yet)

this kinda thing goes with his personality, he was caught tanking last year from weeks 9-14, got told not to by comish, then did it again week 15. comish is his neighbor and said he’d not do it again, one owner quit from seeing this (and it was a guy i brought in so it rubs off on me somewhat, it’s gross; i wouldn’t intentionally bring anybody into a league where i knew that kinda stuff was allowed.).

            • Phil B.

              Phil B. says:
              (link)

Hoarding QBs will bite him when we get to the middle weeks ad beyond, and majorly for #2 reason you mentioned.

Tanking in Football makes less sense, and it screws with the rest of the league, and is a dick move.

Allen may wind up being better then we think; his appearances last season look good on paper(I will admit to not seeing him play live)

              • Super Terrific Carpal Tunnel Virusy Box vs Mail Robot (who wins?) says:
                (link)

i’m not considering somebody in baseball who hoards prospects to be tanking, per se. as long as that owner tries to set a lineup anyway. this guy here, he’d do stuff like leave an injured player in with a healthy starter on bench, put his worst WR’s in over say edelman etc. PURE tanking. i went back and did all the math and we got lucky he gained nothing from it though. he lost a bunch of points he should’ve had, BUT would’ve still lost the same amount of games and he ended up with the worst record.

Agree, I have a 14 team dynasty that I had to gut year 1(for me, I came in a few years after league was formed) and finished 2nd to last this year, hoarding prospects as I could. But I always put in starters and tried to at least make it a fight every week.

To tank like that, what’s the point. If he goes 1-13, or 2-12, still probably in last.

Thank you! Darwin, as Gordon will come back if for no other reason than he is seeming more dispensable by the week, and that if he doesn’t play this season it doesn’t help him get to free agency sooner. Darwin also is a good bye week fill-in; could have some big weeks

Phil, this is our first year doing FAAB so trying to get the hang of it and thanks to many different websites including this one, getting varying but good advice on %’s to spend. But, here is one I am trying hard but having trouble understanding. What should be the bid on a guy like Emmanuel Sanders? We had a team cut him. No one knows why. We charge a hefty chunk of change for league entry so not sure why FNG cut this guy after a solid Week 1. Now, he’s parlayed that with a solid Week 2 vs. a solid defense. TIA to your response.

    • Phil B.

      Phil B. says:
      (link)

If you have the full $100, or at least $75, and need the WR help, I’d pay $41 at least. #1s aren’t usually available after the first couple weeks (and it can be argued he’s 1A and Sutton is 1B, but I like Sanders more). I am also a Sanders fan, and owner in multiple leagues.

It also depends, some leagues whatever you bid is the price you pay, others give you the guy at $1 higher than the next highest bid(which I prefer). So if its the second option, throw out a $65 bid.

Absolutely. Even if Ekeler doesn’t start all season, its hard to see the Chargers not sticking with playing him in tandem with Gordon. Also, why chance an AB suspension, or him just getting cut?

so far across multiple leagues i’ve shored up my biggest issues (able to nab olsen in ALL my henry redrafts, went back to ebron in my one henry dynasty team and was able to stash henry in IR slot), but now goff (who i have in a bunch of spots) hasn’t been living up to rudy’s bot’s love thusly. replaced ben with jimmer G in the one spot i had ben and already had j.allen. he’s up to like 8th this week from FP’s top guys, so that’s nice. in one spot where i have goff but nobody else (goff ranked a decent amount lower this week than j.allen, people are valuing him well finally) j.allen just got dropped.
    QB (1) goff
RB (2) AAron, fournette, lindsay, mal brown, gore (he’s a funny case, dropped/readded in numerous leagues so far from usage and singletary minorly hurt)
WR (2) adams, edelman, j.brown, sutton, mclaurin, green
    TE (1) olsen
    1 flex
IR (1) coleman (somebody dropped him even though we have an IR slot, possible the owner doesn’t know how to use them)

who’s my drop for j.allen if anybody here, coleman or green is in the IR slot. later i’ll have to figure out who to drop for green if i drop coleman now. goff seems too good to just turn into a streamer slot even with 2 not great games so far. but having goff + j.allen seems like a smart move (murray has been WW’d everywhere by those with better waiver than me)

    • Phil B.

      Phil B. says:
      (link)

I see owners in leagues miss the IR spot all the time. Green did not sound optimistic on returning, however Coleman is part of a committee so if I had to choose, I’d go Green on IR.

So you could cut Coleman or Gore. I feel like a lot out there didn’t take note that the Bills were up, Singletary was out, so Gore got fed a lot. Let’s say he got 5 carries for 10 yards in the 2nd half last week, would people still be as high on him?

And yes, totally agree on Allen & Goff being a great combo, and much better than just Goff, who I still think will come around

  20. Super Terrific Carpal Tunnel Virusy Box vs Mail Robot (who wins?) says:

above i’m seeing you tell 2 different ben owners in super flex leagues to bid 15 or 40 on rudolph. here trying to gauge my FAAB’ing.

super flex 12 team PPR (keep 4, brand new league this year):

    QB (1): wentz/trubisky/mariota
RB (2) AAron, mack, lindsay, burkhead, ballage, ogun
WR (3): adams, dede, fuller, a.wilson (this guy should if healthy get the targets, going back to last year he was awesome, this year he got thrown at 4/5 of the throws when healthy), p.williams (this guy gets better valued if/when a.wilson it out), c.davis
TE (1) kelce, hockenson (didn’t even plan to go backup TE here at all, then hock was in the 3rd or 2nd to last round still around)
    2 regular flexes
    1 super flex

trying to figure out how much to bid on these: rudolph (over mariota), d.thompson (over ogun and maybe ballage), d.robinson (over ogun only, can’t weaken by RB’s for any non big name WR), wilkins (over ogun only i’d think, in case drake gets moved, but handcuffing mack probably smart idea, plus the footballguys did a piece on wilkins, they like him a LOT)

    1. the FAAB guy i saw both advise 2 ben owners to bid 40 and 16 (out of 100). here i have 89 left and i’m thinking something like this what youse think:
rudolph 25 (minshew and keenum last week went for 11 and 3)
d.robinson 16-18 (dola last week went for 11)
    d.thompson 6-7 (a bit more since i’m RB weaker)
wilkins (he’ll be cheap probably, but handcuffing, 5)

    2. since i’ll be trying to drop ogun for robinson or thompson also drop ballage for wilkins here or no? other FA RB guys are: gallman, richard, gus the bus, j.wilson, snell, t.johnson, sproles

Yes! I will take being the FAAB guy.

In your case, Rudolph isn’t needed, but I def like him better than Mariota. Hard part with giving any pricing is not knowing: League type, team depth, and FAAB dollars left. If I was a programmer i would design an app that would let you put those things in and calc a price (I’ll have to talk to Rudy).

I’m not sure that everyone is about Rudolph as am I (though Ringer did a good piece on him), but based on what you’ve said $25 is a good bid (Go $26 just in case).

Robinson for $17 is a good bet too. Thompson I’d go $11 on. You have enough left that getting at least 3 of the 4 are worth it. Bouce Ogun and Ballage. Don’t like any of the other RBs out there.

So you get all 3 at those prices, still leaves $36, which isn’t bad for the RoS.

or the “OPS guy” or one of the “dynasty guys” in baseball (not the main deeper prospects one), thanks. you see what semien just did, like the 7th player to have that many runs/triples/HR’s/steals some other stuff, ever. semien i tend to have in OPS deep ass leagues, since nobody ever wants him, and he starts, and is cheap.

fAAB calc is a great idea for rudy. like those VBD calculators used during drafts.

Thanks for noticing! (I am going to get back to OPS next season and hopefully a few offseason posts after football)

Totally with you on Marcus. Now he is #7 in WAR; great stats, with only a 290 BABIP. I think he’s going to be underrated going into next year (he should be a 2nd rounder, but I bet he averages the 5th). Also, his major improvement in BB Rate and cutting his K%(2017 22%, 2018 19%, 2019 14%) makes me really like him next year.

i’m in one 20 team dynasty with keeper rules though, we can only keep 5 SP, 5 RP, 1 starting hitter at every position (NOT the IF nor 4th OF, but 1 util counts). but also up to 10 prospect eligible guys per year (lux can be in that)
C romine (streamer all year, kraken is gone this year)
              1B rhysus (LF)
              2B lux (SS)
              SS story
              3B mostsuckass (2B)
IF semien (so he can’t be kept if story is, will try to predraft trade for SP upgrade or RP for him, somebody dropped him earlier in year for some reason, i told you he’s viewed as boring)
              LF mcneil (2B/3B/RF)
              CF ketel one (2B/SS)
              RF harper (CF)
              OF laureano
              util (1) cruz
BN: otani (hitter only, and he’s easy keep over cruz, wasn’t ever able to trade cruz this year to anybody since he’s old, accidentally nabbed cruz in auction draft since he was far too cheap, realized later we only have 1 util slot and knew i was winning otani hitter here), kiermaier
so i have to drop cruz, kiermaier, and semien. laureano could be the CF, ketel one the 2B.
SP (5 max kept): happ, matz, ed-rod, clevinger, ryu, puk (could be one of the prospects), thornton (streamer), marquez
RP: giles, raisel, mcgill, ginkel, buttrey (holds and saves here together)
              prospects (10): d.garcia, vientos, kelenic, o.cruz, larnach, n.jones, brujan, y.diaz

i got rudolph (other bids were 15, 2, 1), thompson (5), wilkins (1), but did NOT get robinson (my 17 was 2nd to somebody’s 22, also 15, 15, 15, 12, 12, 7 bids). in future i’ll know going forward the QB bids aren’t very huge, albeit rudolph’s 15 was the 2nd highest bid for any QB this year so far.

It would suck to have to drop Semien; but thinking about it, why not try and trade Story? I like him a lot and he’s been a solid guy for 3 seasons now; and has improved every season, but he would bring back a lot. Being only 26 though, that’s a hard trade in a dynasty. I would want a top 10 SP and a top 15 prospect at minimum.
Happ has to go, and thornton too(could he be a RP tho?) and if Puk sent down that’s a solid 5 SPs.
Good prospect group too, but most are a bit away (tho with how MLB is going, some might be up next year)

Nice to get Rudolph, if any backup is worth it, its him, since his leash will be as long as it can be. Thats really interesting on Robinson, how close everyone was. I also like the guy going 22, outthinking himself a little. I always try to go $1 more than the round number, but maybe I should be going $2 more.

my guess is i wouldn’t get a fair offer on story, better off taking a lowish offer for semien (possible draft pick or SP upgrade) yeah happ’s gone, puk would count predraft as one of the max 10 prospects. thornton is just a streamer since i lost innings when i both had to call puk up to make moves and marquez got hurt. i went best prospects overall, i don’t want them to be up too early, my team is good already. lux/puk only ones called up so far and lux wasn’t intended to yet this year till a bunch of LAD injuries + he completely destroyed the minors.

Makes sense on the prospects, don’t know why I didn’t realize that. All you need is 1 guy to really like Semien, and that’s def possible.

Do you have to call them up once they get called up to MLB? Or can you leave them in the minors until you want them up?
