It’s crazy, right?  The NFL season is here.  Your drafts and auctions are done, so it’s just time to set your lineups for Week 1 with one game in the bag already in Foxboro.  I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling 22.  OKAY, enough Taylor Swift.  I don’t know about you, but I’m sad that draft season is over.  It’s by far my favorite time in the fantasy football season.  The mocks, the snake drafts, the slow-play drafts, the auctions, the scouting reports and all of the news leading up to the season can’t be matched.  Now, it’s time for luck to kick in and play the big part that it does each football season. Each week, I’ll be highlighting different streamers that fantasy players should look at for the upcoming week at quarterback, tight end, defense and kicker.  Obviously, some of the guys I write about won’t be available in your league.  We do all play in different league sizes and rules, after all.  So, if I write about Andy Dalton one week, just shoot me a comment below with your question and I’ll be more than happy to help there.

Let’s get things going, shall we?

I had a scheduled laid out for the preseason where I would write four different streaming columns on quarterbacks, tight ends, defenses and kickers.  To be honest, though, if I were to write about just defense or kickers, it would be about 150 words total, which isn’t even enough to get the article picked up on Google News.  Kickers and defenses just don’t make good streamers.

So instead, let’s combine the two positions that mean nothing and put them into one article.  If you can’t tell by the headline, I hate playing in leagues that use team defenses and kickers.  It’s 2015, bro.  Get rid of them in your league.  It’s the old-school thought that we don’t want to venture into unknown territory.  That’s why you see resistance to auctions at first, or even two-QB leagues.  Team defenses and kickers have been a part of fantasy forever, and leagues continue to keep them around.

Why?

As fantasy football and fantasy baseball start to overlap, you can start to notice some similarities between the two.  You can wait on the quarterback position, just like you can wait on pitching.  Power is at a premium in baseball, as is a running back who has the job to himself.  But perhaps no comparison is as true as a tight end in football is just like a shortstop in baseball (well, kickers and catchers are pretty damn close). In fantasy baseball, shortstop is basically a fantasy wasteland.  You either have Troy Tulowitzki or Carlos Correa or you have nothing.  The same goes for tight end in football, too.  Last year, it was either Jimmy Graham (and his then-first-round tag), Julius Thomas, or Rob Gronkowski.  After that, there wasn’t much at all to get excited about.  Injuries plagued Graham and Thomas, leaving Gronkowski as the best option at the position, as he dominated the competition similar to the way that Tulo does when he’s healthy.

[Jay’s Note: The Official 2015 Razzball Fantasy Football Rankings will come out in several months, but Michael has been awesome enough to give you guys a taste of how things stand right now. Way too early? Sure. Way too hot? Yes! Early AND hot folks… just like my love life.]

2014 was an interesting fantasy football year, wasn’t it?  It was the year of the rookie receiver, as Odell Beckham, Jr., Kelvin Benjamin, Mike Evans, Sammy Watkins and more took the league by storm.  There were studs being studs, as well as studs being duds.  The zero-running back strategy was implemented, and well, didn’t work out that well for most people.

2015 is going to be even more of an interesting year, as draft strategies are sure to change for people.  While it’s way too early in the fantasy offseason to rank players, we figured what the heck, we may as well have some fun with it.

That being said, I did rank certain players whose futures are unsure (Adrian Peterson, Marshawn Lynch) just because as of now, there is no news about what will happen.

Don’t worry, that’ll change with updated rankings in the upcoming months…

Jay’s updated his Week 16 Rankings for tonight’s games: the Eagles vs. Washington, and Chargers vs. 49ers. Check them out here!

It’s fantasy championship week.  I hope that you have made it to your respective fantasy finals, and that you’re in line to win major candy bars with a victory this weekend.  With the holidays next week, there won’t be a start and sit article for Week 17.  However, as the offseason approaches, there will still be plenty to read on the site, and within the coming weeks, I’ll have a way-too-early top 100 for 2015 posted on the site and numerous other strategy, draft and other articles to hold you over.

Let’s get to it, shall we?

It only took until Week 15 of the NFL season, but it looks like Mike Pettine actually wants to win games in Cleveland.  After suffering through 13 games with Brian Hoyer as the quarterback, Pettine made the call to start Johnny Manziel this week against Cincinnati.  Look, I’m on record as saying that Manziel is going to be a bust in the league, and I stand by that.  However, Manziel can’t be as bad as Hoyer, and he’s the spark plug this offense needs.

Man, I didn’t have my best week last week.  I guess it kind of evened things out from a few weeks ago when I seemingly couldn’t miss.  Oh well, even LeBron James has his off nights, right?  You know, like the game in Portland where I bought tickets as soon as possible to see the “King” play.  I’m not bitter or anything, promise.  Anyway, sorry if the advice didn’t work out last week, but remember as always, I’m not the one who hits submit on your lineup.

Have the Saints finally figured it out?  No, not things in general, as their 4-5 record indicates, but do they finally realize the type of talent that Mark Ingram has when given the opportunity?  For years, the Saints went with a stable of backs, and the only ones who have fantasy dependable were Darren Sproles and Pierre Thomas (last year).  But as the injuries have mounted this year, Ingram finally got his chance to shine after teasing us for years.  Sucks for the Saints that he’s in a contract year, huh?

There’s no guarantee that Ingram will stay healthy — he already missed three games this year due to injury — but while he’s healthy and Thomas and Khiry Robinson are out, fantasy owners have to ride Ingram until the wheels fall off.

Ingram has carried the load for the Saints in recent weeks, and on the season, he has 551 yards on the ground (4.8 ypc) and six scores.  With another juicy matchup on the schedule this week against the Bengals at home, who just surrendered three rushing touchdowns last Thursday to the Cleveland Browns, Ingram is a no-brainer start of the week.

When a starting quarterback goes down for a team, it’s usually catastrophic.  Sure, you’ll have your Kurt Warner/Trent Green and Tom Brady/Drew Bledsoe stories, but more often than naught, it means a big blow to the team.  That’s not the case for the Philadelphia Eagles.  Sure, no one wants to see anyone get hurt, but this is fantasy, baby.  It happens, and you look for the new shiny toy to come in and lead you on a run to the championship.

This week, that new toy is Mark Sanchez.  Yes, that Mark Sanchez.  The butt-fumbling, hot dog eating, former quarterback of the New York Jets.  With a fractured collarbone, Eagles’ quarterback Nick Foles is expected to miss quite a bit of time.  For fantasy and real life purposes, that’s perfectly fine.

Writing the Start ‘Em and Sit ‘Em is usually pretty easy, if I’m being honest.  You never want to say to start DeMarco Murray and bench Geno Smith, because that’s too obvious.  Even still, there are enough options based on matchups that make for a pretty easy article.  Not this week, though.  No, it’s the return of Bye-Mageddon, Bye-Nado or whatever clever name you want to give it.  There are six, yes six, teams on bye this week.  The Bears, Titans, Packers, Lions, Falcons and Bills are off, and all of the aforementioned teams except the Titans are loaded with fantasy relevant players.

With so many viable options on bye, it’s hard to suggest that you bench anyone.  But alas, the show must go on.
