BOLD takes are BOLD takes for a reason. Someone has to get crazy every once in a while. Reflecting on my boldness, I was one for three, which isn’t too terrible. My two misses would fall under the hot to extra category on the Scoville Scale. The lone correct call is more in the medium range but was bold at the time. Regardless of my accuracy,  it’s always fun to get creative and make future predictions based on data and gut feelings. Next season’s bold takes will be just as entertaining!

Hits

  • Prediction: Josh Jacobs will finish higher than De’Von Achane
  • Scoville Scale: 30,000 SHU

This prediction is correct depending on your format. In half PPR and standard leagues, Jacobs was RB5 while Achane finished as the RB6 and RB9, respectfully. In PPR Achane was RB5 and Jacobs RB6. What made this take spicy was given their respective ADPs at 24 for Achane and 37 for Jacobs.

The fantasy industry was gushing about Achane and saw him going as high as the first round and early second. I trusted Jacobs in Green Bay with Matt LaFleur’s track record with RBs over Achane ceiling. I had legitimate concerns about Achane’s usage, his health and his QBs health. Despite Tua Tagovalioa missing time, Achance was a fantasy menace. This prediction hit 2/3 of formats, so I’ll take the W on this one.

Misses

  • Prediction: Travis Eteinne Jr. will finish as RB1
  • Scoville Scale: 100,000 SHU

This one hurts me deeply as the Jaguars fan on the Razzball panel. The potential was there for Etienne entering this season as the RB3 in 2023. The potential you ask? Dating back to 2015, RB1’s average age is 25 and drafted in the first or second round. Check for Etienne. More recently, over the last nine years, RB1’s workload needs to have a minimum of 250+ carries, 50+ receptions, and double-digit TDs. Check for Etienne.

Unfortunately, the breakout season for the Jaguars never materialized. In half PPR formats, Eteinne Jr. finished the 2024 season as the RB39. He didn’t finish as the best RB on his team. His teammate, Tank Bigsby, was RB33. YIKES. One could say my judgment was clouded, but I thought Etienne was primed to carry the torch in Jacksonville.

  • Prediction: Josh Allen will NOT finish as a top five QB
  • Scoville Scale: 300,000 SHU

This is as spicy as it gets in our world and I was WRONG! I tried to get cute with an asinine take that held a sliver of merit. My thought was without a true WR1 on the roster, the Bills offense would regress and his 15 rushing TDs in ’23 would be an outlier. Allen never finished higher than QB11 without Diggs. His situation reminded me of Patrick Mahomes’ 2023 season where he did not have a true WR1, finishing as the QB8.

As we all know, Allen finished this season as the QB2, while rushing for 12 TDs with 28 passing TDs and 3,731 yards.  I will note, he has yet to throw 30+ TDs along with 4,000 passing yards without Diggs. Allen rushing prowess looks to be real and here to stay entering the 2025 campaign. I’ve learned my lesson not to doubt this Wyoming Cowboy again.
