Ah, the fickle world of fantasy football.  Some would say it’s a man’s world but those some have now passed on and have also said this.  Instead, I’ll say it’s a world of ‘what have you done for me lately’.  You know that world quite well in fantasy sports.  It’s how a guy who has an injury plagued year is ignored for the draft the next year only to ‘surprise’ everyone and have them say, ‘who could’ve seen that coming?’  Well, I’m here to talk up a guy you might have heard of in Hakeem Nicks.  You remember him, don’t you?  He’s the one that put up 199 yards on 10 receptions with a touchdown back in week 3.  Heck, maybe he even helped a team beat your team.  I know, two weeks is a long time.  It’s also a long time for someone who owns him to sit and wait, hoping for better news.  Now of course any Nicks purchase could come with buyer’s remorse so you best not be spending more than you should, hence this being a buy low post.  I’ll put it to you this way: the 25th best WR according to a yahoo PPR league right now is Malcom Floyd while Hakeem is now just outside the top 50.  You tell me who you’d rather have rest of season there.  See how easy that was to agree with me?  Now on with some other buys and sells for 2012 fantasy football…wait, don’t go yet!  I have some crazy meetings going on right now at work Tuesday through Thursday of this week.  Those fun ‘all day’ work events that keep you away from the things you love, namely your bright and shining faces in the comments.  I’ll get to you as fast as possible but I’m not going to be as on it this week as I normally am.  Thank you all for understanding.  And now on with the article…

BUY

Donald Brown – Tucked underneath Andrew Luck‘s banner Sunday and scruffy beard was a healthy running back line from Donald as he went for 84 yards on 17 carries.  Hey, I heard that yawn in the back!  I know, it’s not a sexy call – and how could it be with a guy named Donald – but overall, he’s still ranked the 26th best back according to yahoo in a PPR format and he only has 3 receptions so far.  Look, in a day and age where RBBC is a more well known acronym than CCR, it’s nice to see consistent touches from your RB.  The end line may never be sexy, but you could be looking at a low end RB2 option for the rest of the season.  Not to mention, other than a game at Houston, his playoff schedule (vs TEN & @KC) isn’t looking too daunting either.  I promise Donald can make your blue eyes brown…or however that song it supposed to go.

Doug Martin – Something about bye weeks and a fairly boring start makes Martin look appealing for trade purposes right now.  I see him like I see Brown but with more upside, especially in a PPR setting.  He only has 8 receptions to date, putting him on pace for 32.  I think he’ll have closer to 50 by the time the year is up, perhaps more.  This is a team that will play from behind a lot as we all knew coming into the season.  Besides, who’s going to steal his touches?  LeGarrette Punch?  BTW, that video is NSFW.  And it’s also annoying and you have to forward to about 35 seconds in to get the reference.  Sorry, google was not kind today.

SELL

Domenik Hixon – Yes, another obvious sell.  But my sell suggestion isn’t necessarily for the obvious reason so perhaps it’s not an obvious sell.  Haha!  Sorry, enjoying my own logic a bit too much there.  I’m not suggesting sell because Nicks is coming back.  Sure, it’s a part of it but there are other parts.  Namely two of them: Ramses Barden and Rueben Randle.  Or as I like to call them ‘the guys who led NYG in targets for weeks 3 and 5, respectively’.  Simply put, normally you like to have the WR3 for NYG on your team but I just don’t know who it really is at this point and if I don’t have to hang around to find out, I don’t want to.  He’s obviously not a 1 for 1 guy but he could be used as a sweetener.

Tony Gonzalez – He’s on pace for 125 receptions, 1240 yards and 13 TDs.  You think he keeps this value/pace and I have a boat with a screen door in the bottom of it to sell you.  He’s a top 10 TE, not a top 25 overall player, which is where he’s currently ranked according to yahoo.  Maybe the Jimmy Graham owner with his ankle issue – and I don’t know how serious it is – and a bye week on hand might be interested.  You never know, crazier things have happened.

Andy Dalton – Currently the 8th best QB according to yahoo.  Look, I know how much you all love the Red Rocket – and yes I will keep referencing that as his nickname and yes I know how wrong it is – but I’ve seen him stumble against tough defenses.  His current playoff schedule looks pretty nasty too with three teams – DAL, @PHI, @PIT – ranked in the top 10 in terms of passing yards per game given up.  I know you have a thing for redheads but just remember: Lindsay Lohan might make it hurt for you to go pee but Dalton just might make it hurt for you to sit down come playoff time.

What level of player are you trying to get for Tony Gonzalez in a PPR league? The best TEs on the waiver wire are Pettigrew, Fleener, Marcedes Lewis, Zach Miller, and Ben Watson. Do you go for an injured Nicks or another WR1?

    • Sky

      Sky says:

If Pettigrew is on waivers, I’d go after a low end WR1 or as I mentioned in the article, get in touch with the Graham owner.

@Sky, Graham owner just offered me Welker and Graham for Gonzalez and Bradshaw. This league is PPR and PPrush. I think I’m inclined to make this move.

        Here’s my roster now:

        QB Stafford
        WR Harvin
WR Cribbs (It’s also a return yardage league)
        WR Lloyd
        RB JC Superstar
        RB Lynch
        TE Gonzalez
        Q/W/R/T Carson Palmer
        BN Ryan Mathews
        BN Bradshaw
        BN Greg Jennings
        BN Emanuel Sanders
BN Matt Cassel (he’s droppable now since both other QBs are coming off of bye weeks)
BN Pettigrew (dropped Andre Brown for him today)

Alright nacho here are questons for two different leagues, please rank?

    1) Luck vs jets, Ponder vs. Skins, or Dalton vs. Browns

    2) Smith vs Giants, Dalton vs. Browns, and Stafford vs. Eagles

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

@Jack Full of Hate, Just went out to Turtles for nachos last night, actually. Delicious as usual minus the pace picante salsa.

      1) Luck

      2) Smith

I tried to teach it how to breast stroke, actually. For some reason the waitress in the dirndl didn’t like my methods. Actually, it still works. Had to find a work around for the home button and have no wireless and can’t access my groupon app (last one is just weird and I can’t understand it) but it still is functioning. I’ll take it for another year until my plan runs out.

      • Jack Full of Hate says:
        (link)

@Sky, So even though Luck is facing the sixth best passing defense you would take him over Dalton who is facing the 26th ranked pass defense and one that he has already scorched. And then you have Ponder who faces the 31st rated pass defense.

Do you find it a bit odd that the in state rivals Bengals and Browns face each other twice in 4 weeks. Kinda lame, right?

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

THe only thing I can say is San Fran & Houston can run the ball. Since Revis has been out, that’s the only teams NYJ have faced. Indy will have to pass the ball and Luck has shown he can spread the wealth. Still think he’s in line for a big week. I have Ponder as a low end top 10 guy this week based on his matchup, but they do have AP. Just depends how conservative the playcalling is whether or not he achieves. I do think Haden back in the mix in Cleveland will slow the passing game down a bit for Dalton, though probably not dramatically. I’m not a firm believer in the Red Rocket.

Sorry if you’re from Ohio but Bengals vs Browns is just kinda lame in general, rivalry or no. At least they’re getting the scheduling fluff out of the way early!

          • Jack Full of Hate says:
            (link)

@Sky, I have Luck for now and will probably go with him, since I have Newton, who is on the bye week, and has been sucking it for me this year, and not in a good way. Red rocket man scares me too.

            • Sky

              Sky says:
              (link)

It’s odd to see so many people down on Newton. In all honesty, minus his first two games last year in which he threw for over 850 yards (but was also only 3:4 in terms of TD to INT ratio in those two games), he’s still clipping along at a nearly similar rate. He had a few clunkers last year too. At least I can understand it vs SEA this year but last year he was terrible vs JAC in their first matchup. He’s still the guy he was last year, in my mind, minus those first two games and that’s how I viewed him going into the draft. He’s even currently ranked near his draft price according to yahoo (18th off-season vs 26th current). Not trying to over-defend but I’m curious if people were expecting more growth from him this year, hence the anger.

              • Jack Full of Hate says:
                (link)

@Sky, I’m still seeing the great potential there, i’m just pissed because he has cost me matchups against inferior teams. As long he doesnt suck come playoff time, then we are good, i can always find a way to make it to the playoffs.

Any new thoughts on Morris. I’m tinking he might actually run with this, no pun intended. In Denver Shanny had all those 1,000 yard rushers and he might be that ugly girl from those teen movies who takes off the glasses and is actually really hot. You know, no one wants her, like Morris, and then when the style change occurs, solid regular playing time, everyone want her.

Lastly, after losing Amendola in my PPR and needing a WR, I traded Desean and Doug Martin for Fitzgerald. Any thoughts on that. I have Foster, Bush, Mendenhall and Morris at the RB spot. Also my receivers were already kinda weak with Harvin, Torrey Smith, Antonio Brown and I’m holding Amendola for playoffs. I thought Fitzgerald could be a big boost because I think his best games are to come.

I can get behind that, RE: Cam. I know people have been burned but SEA is actually a tough team. NYG was just a messy game from beginning to end. That pass-rush coupled with some batted down passes at the line were really what made that night truly horrendous. I equate it to Romo’s 5 INT week. One that’ll be rare but is going to happen from time to time. BTW, did you know Romo completed over 70% of his passes that night? Unreal.

RE: Morris, I’ve gone from guilty until proven innocent to the other side. Trust me, he forced my hand. If I were ranking ROS, he’s tentatively low-end RB1 material due to the Skins propensity to run the ball and how well he does run in that offense. Just realize that – like James Jones – the moment I give props to a Redskins RB, he’ll get 5 carries the next week. Mea culpa in advance if that rings true.

RE: Amendola-less, I might not have done that trade but given your RB depth, I don’t see it hurting your team. Putting Brown as your WR3 looks good to me.

    League details – Start 2 RB’s, 2 WR’s, 1TE, 1 FLEX; 1.0 PPR and receiving yards for TE’s is 1 point/8 yards. I’m currently 4-1 and in first place…

Trade Reggie Bush for CJ2YPC and Aaron Hernandez? I already have Jermichael Finley and Jared Cook, but Finley is the NFL’s new Glass Chipper and Cook is still unproven. My backup RB’s are suspect but plentiful…

So, do you think you would take the deal? If so, on a scale of 1-10, how strong do you feel about it?

    Thanks for the advice!

      @Far Beyond Driven,

I’m a Reggie Bush believer as an RB1 so I personally wouldn’t do it but it’s fair. On a scale – because of my beliefs – I’d go 7/10 in terms of not doing it.

  9. Pat says:

Right now my fantasy team is not doing as well as I would’ve expected since I’m 1-4. But nevertheless I have two quick questions

    1. I have McFadden, Ridley, Bradshaw, and mendenhall and can start 3. Normally I would sit mendenhall but he’s going up against a poor titans defense, and also I’ve been a little reluctant to start McFadden because of his obvious underperformance thus far. Who should I start/sit?

    2. I’ve also been disappointed with Andre Johnson’s performance thus far. I have Malcolm Floyd but I have not been starting him because I have been using Andre and Percy harvin. Also I do have Greg Jennings. Should I play Johnson? Who should I sit? Thank you

    • Sky

      @Pat,
      1) DMC/Bradshaw/Mendenhall

Hi, can you help me with a trade question?

I want to upgrade one of my RB spots, and Garcon won’t start on my team with Harvin, Wallace and Fitz at the two WR spots and flex spot (I also have Hawkins). My RB’s are Sproles, Leshoure and Stephens-Howling. It is a PPR league. If I put together a package of say Leshoure and Garcon what could I get in return? I’d consider Wallace instead of Garcon if it means I could get a top RB in return.

    Thanks!

@Ryan, Those guys are what have you done for me lately calls and neither have done much. You might get an RB2 upgrade over LeShoure but I’d be surprised. If you threw in Wallace, you should get an RB1 but it’s hard to say who’ll accept what.

    Powell
    LaRod S-H
    Alex Green
    David Wilson
Andre Roberts (not a RB, but maybe more useful than the above)

@Tony Gonzo : “I have a boat with a screen door in the bottom of it to sell you. ”

I currently own Gonzo and used FlexSeal on your boat with the screen on the bottom. If you have seen the commercial, it works great and maybe this old salt can be this years Jimmy Graham?

Coming back to reality, you still in love with Cam or are you starting to come to the dark side of him being a first round draft bust this year?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Ha, I haven’t seen the commercial. I’ll have to look later. I love T-Gonzo but if I can upgrade to a guy like Graham/Gronk/V. Davis with him, I’d take it or perhaps a WR1 if I’m in need. He’ll be good all year, IMHO, but as I mentioned, that pace is a little crazy, regardless of age.

I’m looking at Cam’s ranking coming into the season over on yahoo – 18th – and his current ranking of 26th. SEA is a tough defense. In the end, he’s not going to have the cinderella season he had last year but he’s actually pretty on par in terms of value returned to date. Still a buy low, IMHO.
