I am mad as hell, and not afraid to tell you! One of my top five favorite NFL players of all time, Davante Adams left on the last play of the Rams-Cardinals game which preceded HC Sean McVay’s announcement that Adams could miss 6-10 weeks with a ruptured hamstring. Why do the fantasy football gods hate me?
The biggest mover of the week is probably Marvin Harrison, Jr. as he was traded to the Houston Texans in Week 6. Considering he is currently rostered in 79% of leagues; there is only a small chance he is attainable in your league. What we really need to know is who steps into his role for the Cardinals. Keep reading for my thoughts.
Do not forget the @Razzball NFL writers team will be hosting our Sunday Morning Start/Sit podcast every week starting three hours before kickoff all the way up to the official start of the early games. Sky – @SkyGuasco, Derek – @Derek_Favret, Jeff @Jefferson__21, Dave @crewswe128 and me/Matt – @stiles08, will be answering all your questions to help you win your weekly matchups. Come for the analysis and stay for the laughs!
WAIVERS:
ADD OF THE WEEK = Germie Bernard – 50% rostered just dropped 11-87-1 on the Bucs in Tamps. Looks for his stats to continue to improve with Pat Frieermuth dinged and Roman Wilson/Michael Pittman Jr. injured. Not much else to say. Pick him up now as he will not be available next week.
QB: Aaron Rodgers – 42% rostered: Four straight games with 20 points. This offense clearly revolves around Jaylen Warren, but we love the emergence of this week’s cover poster, Germie Bernard. If you know ball, like I know ball, you know Rodgers loves his stats. With that, he appears to have a wonderful connection with Bernard. Expect that to continue with DK Metcalf garnering the CB1 attention.
Honorable Mention/Cheaper Options:
J.J. McCarthy – 2% rostered I will leave this here for discussion purposes only. Do the Giants move off Jameis for 9? Who knows at this point, especially considering McCarthy put up 2443 yards and a TD in mop-up duty during a game that appeared out of reach when he took his first snap. If nothing else, a QB with Malik Nabers and Isaiah Likely is not a bad one to roster.
RB: NYG RBs – various % rostered Somehow this became a four RB committee after Cam Skattebo fumbled in Week 5 (four fumbles with one lost on the season). I have no idea what HV John Harbaugh is doing with this backfield. Harbaugh’s comment after the Week 6 loss has me thinking he not only soft benched Skattebo but the coach does not ‘like’ the player, either. “It wasn’t by design for him not to carry the ball. It was just, when he in there, we didn’t call any runs.” That is ludicrous to not own the decision. What does this mean for fantasy managers? It means take your antacids before starting any of the four NYB RBs, to include Skattebo. Truth be told, I want nothing to do with Najee Harris, Devin Singletary, or Tyrone Tracy Jr.
Honorable Mention/Cheaper Options:
Kendre Miller – 34% rostered. He led the Saints RBs in rushes and rushing yards. He missed out on the Alvin Kamara TD reception. Like the NYG RBs, I am steering clear of the Saints RBs until I see that one is the actual RB1. That might not be until Travis Etienne is back from IR.
Samaje Perine – 5% rostered. This seems to happen every year. We get a Samaje Perine game, and we all go nuts assuming Chase Brown is no longer the guy for the Bengals. I doubt the is the case, but Perine does have a role, and the Week 5 work is encouraging.
Dameon Pierce – 63% rostered is the current starting RB for the hapless Eagles. Saquon Barkley will be back soon enough, so treat Pierce like a short-term rental.
If you are desperate at RB, consider kicking the tires on both Bam Knight – 0% rostered and Roschon Johnson – 5% rostered.
WR: Keon Coleman – 31% rostered has three straight weeks with a TD. If DJ Moore continues to struggle to get back on the field, Coleman is a nice place to start to fill the void.
Kendrick Bourne – 19% and Jaylin Noel rostered 7% were more active with the departure of Marvin Harrison Jr. Noel outpaced Bourne in Week 6 with 107 yards and a TD. I am not sure whether I trust either moving forward especially with the Tank Dell sightings at Texans practice.
Honorable Mention/Cheaper Options:
Rather than bore you with invented explicative comments about middling WRs, I will simply give you a list to consider. These are players that stepped in, possibly stepped up (a little) for their team in Week 6: Kyle Williams / DeMario Douglas / Efton Chism III (Doubs to IR), Konata Mumpfield / CJ Daniels (Adams to IR), Laquon Treadwell / Keenan Allen (Warren injured; Downs not cutting it), Omar Cooper Jr, Tre Tucker, and Jahan Dotson. As noted with other players in this column, these are all ‘in case of emergency, break glass’ players versus anyone you want to rely on long-term.
TE: Michael Mayer – 8% rostered. Outside of a Week 5 clunker, Mayer has produced better numbers with Brock Bowers back as the TE1 for Las Vegas. That’s it. That’s all the analysis I have for you. Brenton Strange – 58% and Chig Okonkwo – 16% rostered also did enough to warrant bye week consideration.
As mentioned above, it has only been one week, so if you lost, got blown out even, relax. It will be OK. There is no need to rush to drop any specific player.
