Jeremy Maclin (concussion) missed practice on Wednesday. Occasionally you see a player suffer a concussion on Sunday and return to practice by Wednesday.  At another extreme, you have players that miss several weeks with a concussion, something that seems to happen to players with a concussion history.  To my knowledge, Maclin does not have a history of suffering concussions, but I suspect he’ll miss this week.  I’m thinking it’s a one or two week injury, but with the Chiefs having their bye in week 9 expect him back no later than Week 10.

Dinged and Damaged (Players with new, seemingly minor ailments.)

Dion Lewis (abdomen) had his worst outing of the season last week.  A regression was to be expected due to the fact that he’s only a 5-15 carry per week type of running back.  Still, maybe the injury played a role in him not playing as much last week, not just the fact that it was a match up that favored Blount.

Odell Beckham Jr. (hamstring) did not practice Wednesday and I just saw on the NFL Network ticker that he will not practice today either.  Not good news, but not really surprising either.  I see him as likely to play Sunday; I’m not aware of any setback.  Remember it’s a short week for the Giants, that may be part of the explanation for him missing practice entirely. Marcus Mariota (knee) has suffered a MCL sprain that may not force him to miss any time.  However, it likely reduces his fantasy value some.  Here’s @ProFootballDoc’s take:

Carlos Hyde (foot) is reportedly good to go for Thursday Night Football.  Still the nagging, lingering nature of this injury is a concern.  With Reggie Bush looking healthier we are no longer on Jarryd Hayne watch.

Tre Mason (ankle) and Tavon Austin (hamstring) are dinged up but appear ok:

Keenan Allen (hip) was forced to miss a chunk of last Sunday’s game against the Packers with an injury suffered on his bajillionth catch of the game.

Antonio Gates (knee) missed practice on Wednesday but I haven’t found anything regarding the severity of his injury and it would be possible that he would miss practice on Wednesday even if he’s not injured.  It’s called “being 35 years old and still playing in the NFL”.  Melvin Gordon (ankle)

Downgraded (players that at one time seemed nearing a return but suffered a setback)

Cecil Shorts III (shoulder) and DeSean Jackson (hamstring).. I have no good timetables for either of them, 2-3 weeks is my best guess.

On The Mend (Players nearing a return.)

Tyrod Taylor (knee) suffered a sprained MCL two weeks ago and missed last week because of it.  It’s possible he’ll play this Sunday in London but performance expectations need to be tempered somewhat.  Dez Bryant (foot) did not practice Wednesday and in my opinion he will not play this week but week 8 remains a strong possibility.  Nate Washington (hamstring) practiced fully and is someone to consider acquiring in 14+ team leagues with Shorts out.

According to Ian Rappaport “WR Victor Cruz (calf) is not expected to play Sunday vs. Cowboys but he is getting an MRI today on his calf. He’s feeling better.”  Ben Roethlisberger (knee) is getting closer but is still very iffy for this Sunday.  We might get to see one more week of Landry JonesStevie Johnson (hamstring) was back at practice.  The last time he played Antonio Gates was not available to the Chargers, with him available expect Johnson to see fewer targets.  Austin Seferian-Jenkins (shoulder) is nearing a return and can soon be considered for acquisition in 12 team leagues.  Jordan Reed (concussion) was back at practice; we await his next injury.

Still Injured.. What the What? (Players with unknown timetables.)

Percy Harvin (hip) and Karlos Williams (concussion) will not be playing in London, they didn’t even make the trip.  This has a the look of a lengthy injury for Harvin, maybe Williams will return after the week 8 bye.  I see him as somewhat of a buy low, a player to consider acquiring if you see him on your league’s waiver wire.

Now I leave you with the practice reports for week 7 of the NFL season..  These are the same reports that each team is required to give the league after every day of practice.  Teams that play Thursday have a full injury report with the “Out/Doubtful/Questionable/Probable” designations due by Wednesday.  Teams that play Sunday (or Saturday) only have a practice report due Wednesday and teams that play Monday have nothing at all due by Wednesday.

Keeper forever league….Agholor and D. Green Beckham available. Which one has most upside this year. Also which one would you keep long term. By the way.. Great writing and thanx so much!!

@Impending doom: I might just like DGB for both, close call.

  2. Mick says:

Trade Gurley and M. Bryant for JStew and Hopkins? I have AP, Forte and Gurley at rb. M. Bryant, Hilton, Maclin, S. Johnson, D. Adams at wr. Gates and Kelce at te. We start 2rb, 3wr, 1te and 1 flex rb/wr/te. 12 teams 1 ppr. I am looking for a top receiver, A. Brown or Hopkins. Which Rb would.you trade for A. Brown or Hopkins? The Brown and Hopkins owner both want Gurley and a receiver. I think I might be better off trading Forte or Peterson straight up. What you think?

      RotoLance says:

@Mick: So, in a way the first question to answer is Gurley + Bryant OR Forte OR Peterson. I do think that perhaps Gurley is close enough to Peterson and Forte that you would rather give up Peterson or Forte. Peterson is looking worse than Forte right now. So if you could, yeah I think I’d go Peterson for JStew and Hopkins. I probably wouldn’t trade Gurley + Bryant for them. Obviously we’ve seen Hopkins best… I’d probably take A Brown over Hopkins in a close call if you have the choice between either of them.

If I interpreted your questions wrong let me know so I can give you a correct answer.

You were spot on with the answer. I want to thank you for taking the time to answer all these questions. I am sorry for being so long winded lol. I agree with what you are saying as well. I was thinking of offering Peterson for Brown straight up before your reply. I guess the question is who will be better ros. If Ben stays healthy I think it will be Brown.

@Mick: I’m not sure if Brown will score more standard scoring fantasy points than Peterson, but I think he might be able to, and even if he doesn’t he might more valuable. More consistent. Owning Brown + Martavis isn’t necessarily what you want, but I don’t think it’s a deciding factor either. It’s pretty awesome if you think you might end up facing off against the Roethlisberger owner in the playoffs though.

Nah, no chnce for that. My Qbs are Ben and Dalton.

      @Mcbluntsky: Close, I’ll say Blount.

12 team standard, lacy and rishard matthews or allen robinson and martavis rest of season?
My WR’s are jones and thomas, and my RB’s are ingram, hillman and abdullah.
    thanks and good work!

    • RotoLance

      RotoLance says:
      (link)

@samsonite: A Rob and Martavis assuming you can play 4 WRs, maybe even if you can only play 3. You can get by with Ingram and Hillman but do keep your eye out for good RB stashes.

  5. Barker says:

12 team ppr 6 pt pass td

Rodgers on bye have to drop someone

My wr calvin moncreif martavis snead hurns
My rbs ingram dion lewis duke riddick knile
    My tes bennett walker

Drop snead hurns riddick or knile

Don’t know if i can drop any of these rbs because wire is barren and the wrs are maybe to decent to drop i was leaning towards dropping snead but may also want to drop hurns

And which qb to grab flacco @ari fitz @ NE cousins vs tb hoyer @ mia foles vs cle

    • RotoLance

      RotoLance says:
      (link)

@Barker: I’d probably drop Knile, it is a close call between all the people you mentioned.

I think I feel most comfortable with Fitzpatrick out of those choices, his had 2 TDs in 4 of 5 games.

  6. Mike says:
    (link)

Chris Johnson and Jordan Mathews for Demerius Thomas?
    Standard league
    Thx

    • RotoLance

      RotoLance says:
      (link)

@Mike: Sure, why not. Especially if you aren’t super reliant on Chris Johnson, then it’s a no-brainer for the Demaryius side. :)

  7. Dom B says:
    (link)

Better Flex start this week John Brown or Steve Smith

    • RotoLance

      RotoLance says:
      (link)

@Dom B: “Brown was limited in practice Thursday, as his hamstring tightened up during drills, Darren Urban of the Cardinals’ official site reports.” from Rotoworld news.

Such a close call, I’ll lean towards Steve Smith now particularly because of Brown’s hamstring thing.

Because I left my Melvin Gordon tidbit empty, here’s this update: He returned to practice today.

  9. STL says:

Two WRs in similar situations…who do you like best ROS?

    Brandon LaFell or Davante Adams?

    • RotoLance

      RotoLance says:
      (link)

@STL: LaFell, he had a big year last year, proving he can be the third most valuable receiver in that offense. I think Adams has more competition in GB than LaFell does in NE.

      • STL says:
        (link)

@RotoLance: I was leaning the same way. Thanks for the reassurance!

  10. Loooooooom says:

would you trade Diggs for Hill in a 12-team half PPR

    • RotoLance

      RotoLance says:
      (link)

@Loooooooom: Stefon Diggs for Jeremy Hill? I understand the concern with Jeremy Hill, but give me the Hill side please.

  11. Samsonpete says:

Would you play Steve Smith or Dion Lewis at flex this week?

    • RotoLance

      RotoLance says:

@Samsonpete: Dion Lewis. So close though.
