The NFL Week 10 Monday Night Football game did not disappoint last night. The undefeated Philadelphia Eagles took on the Washington Commanders in a performance for the ages. NFL MNF Week 10 NFL MNF Week 10 NFL MNF Week 10.

Everyone was banking on the Eagles continuing their winning streak as they faced the 4-5 Commanders. It was a safe bet, as the Commanders have been rolling with their backup quarterback, Taylor Heinicke. In contrast, the Eagles have repeatedly taken control of the field in their undefeated season.

So, what happened in last night’s game? Let’s break it down to see which team took the W.

Monday Night Football Week 10 Game Recap NFL MNF Week 10

The first quarter delivered a typical Eagles’ performance. The first score came quickly as Jalen Hurts ran the rock into the end zone for a one-yard touchdown. It took an additional eight minutes for the Commanders to answer back, but they did. Antonio Gibson carried the ball for one yard to put Washington on the scoreboard.

In 2022 Eagles’ fashion, they weren’t going to finish the first quarter tied with the Commanders and Hurts tossed the ball six yards to Dallas Goedert, putting the Eagles up 14-7 to end the quarter.

The Commanders dominated the second quarter as the only team to put points on the board. First with a booming 44-yard kick by Joey Slay, then with a one-yard run by Brian Robinson Jr., finally finishing the half with a bomber from Slay as he kicked a 58-yard career-high field goal as time expired.

Coming out of the locker rooms, the Commanders were leading the Eagles 20-14. The third quarter, again, belonged to Washington. Although it wasn’t a flashy quarter, it was definitely entertaining as Heinicke and the fellas ran all over the Eagles.

The fourth quarter started with a bang for the Eagles as Hurts tossed the ball to DeVonta Smith for an 11-yard touchdown. The Commanders answered with another field goal about halfway through the fourth. The game ended with a flurry of turnovers culminating in a fumble recovery and a six-point score by Casey Toohill as time expired in the game.

The Commanders put the Eagles in their place as they left Lincoln Financial, winning 32-21.

Key Stats NFL MNF Week 10

  • Taylor Heinicke: 17-29 for 211 yards, 0 touchdowns, 1 interception
  • Brian Robinson: 26 rushes for 86 yards and 1 touchdown
  • Terry McLaurin: 8 receptions for 128 yards

  • Jalen Hurts: 17-26 for 175 yards, 2 touchdowns, 1 interception, 1 rushing touchdown
  • Miles Sanders: 12 rushes for 54 yards
  • Quez Watkins: 4 receptions for 80 yards

Takeaways

The stats don’t do the game justice. It was full of turnovers, forced fumbles, penalties (one missed facemask and one personal foul/late hit on Heineke) and fumble recoveries.

Washington’s time of possession of 24 minutes in the first half spoke volumes. They ended the game with a whopping 40 minutes on the field as the offense took down the Eagles.

The Eagles essentially beat themselves. It’s not that the Commanders outplayed the Eagles. They ran the ball 49 times for 152 yards versus the Eagles, who rushed 20 times for 94 yards.

Late in the fourth quarter, Heinicke took a knee after he failed to find an open target. Eagles’ defensive end Brandon Graham plowed into a down Heinicke, drawing a 15-yard penalty and effectively ending the game for the Eagles.

Terry McLaurin looked unstoppable against the Eagles. He caught the ball all but three times for an average of 16 yards per catch. He ran smart routes and continuously got open.

The question as to whether or not the Eagles are done for the season is ridiculous. Unfortunately, they lost Dallas Goedert to a shoulder injury last night. It’s likely an extended injury, but between Hurts, Miles Sanders, Kenneth Gainwell, A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith and Quez Watkins, the Eagles will recover from this loss and will soldier on to Indianapolis to face the Colts.

The Washington Commanders will use this divisional win to continue to fuel the rest of their season.

That’s it for me this week! I’ll be back next week to give you all the highlights when Jimmy G and the 5-4 San Francisco 49ers head to sunny Arizona to take on the 4-6 Cardinals.
