There is not a ton to discuss heading into Week 13 unless, of course, you are at all concerned with SIX teams being on bye. You read that right! SIX DAMN TEAMS are on bye during Week 13 of the 2023 season. Someone in the League, please explain to me why this was a good idea. I need to understand.

I digress. Wait. I changed my mind. I am not digressing. We need to talk about the teams missing the field this week and how to insulate your roster based on the absences. As we move a day closer to the waiver wire running, we need to ensure we focus on roster holes created as the Ravens, Bills, and Vikings are off. I guess, in this bizarro fantasy football world, we need to consider that the Raiders and Giants will miss Week 13 as well. And, though I feel they are irrelevant and do not like wasting ink on them, the Bears are also out for the upcoming week.

OK, OK, OK, I was just poking the Bears fans with that last comment. The Bears have at least two fantasy-relevant players with Justin Fields and DJ Moore. Mix in a little Khalil Herbert, and maybe there are three starting fantasy options in Chi-Town. More importantly, we need to address injuries for players not on bye. The most significant injury I saw on Sunday was that of Chris Olave, who departed with a concussion after posting 7-114. We have seen some players come back in the week following a concussion, while we have seen a good number of others miss at least the next week. The main issue at play is we will not know Olave’s status prior to the waivers running. Add to this the fact Rashid Shaheed left Week 12 with a quad injury, and the Saints wideouts are in trouble, especially with the Michael Thomas injury that held him out of Week 12. The third fantasy-relevant injury of the week is Demario Douglas, who has emerged as the best pass-catching option for the Patriots. I know, I know, that is not saying a lot, but in PPR formats (the only format there should be), he has been more than serviceable lately.

Add of the Week: I am always honest with the readers, so here is my truth. I do not think there is a must-add player heading into Week 13. I will give you a quick list of names below. Those will not come with a lot of analysis simply because the players below are truly bye week and/or injury fill-ins. They are, most likely, nothing more than that currently. I recommend focusing more on handcuff-type players who can balance out your roster and protect you from an injury from one of your key starters. With that, let’s get to our list.

WAIVERS:

QB: Derek Carr, NO: Do you love 300-yard, 0 TD passing games? If so, do I have the guy for you!

Russell Wilson, DEN: Six straight for the Broncos and Russ cooking a little bit.

Jordan Love, GB: Jump aboard the roller coaster that is Jordan Love.

Gardner Minshew:  Good upcoming schedule. That’s it. That’s all I got.

RB:  Keaton Mitchell, BAL: Outsnapped and outplayed Gus Bus in Week 12. Will take a seat in Week 13 due to the bye.

Khalil Herbert, CHI: What are Eberflus and Getsy doing with this guy?  He is back and healthy, yet they run Roschon Johnson out there for most of Monday Night Football. I just do not understand their process in Chicago.

AJ Dillon, GB: Quadzilla continues to look good, not great. Aaron Jones is considered week-to-week, so you can do worse than flexing Dillon.

Ty Chandler, MIN: The Vikings could not do much on Monday Night. I still like Chandler’s stock moving forward, as Alexander Mattison is proving to not be the guy.

WR: Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, GB:  For me, it’s Reed over Doubs, but both are solid FLEX plays.

AT Perry, NO: We know Carr will throw, and someone must catch the passes, right? Alvin Kamara cannot be the only guy running routes, can he?

Jameson Williams, DET: Starting to get some additional looks from Jared Goff. He is one play away from a double-digit outing every time he catches a pass.

Odell Beckham Jr., BAL: Kind of admitting I was wrong about this guy. He appears energized and still has good hands and speed. Lamar Jackson looks to have confidence in the guy, so maybe we should, too.

TE: Pat Freiermuth, PIT: I do not trust Kenny Pickett, but the play calling sure seemed to be solid, with the Steelers putting up over 400 total yards. It’s tough to ignore 9-120 from a TE, right?

Tucker Kraft, GB: With Luke Musgrave out, Kraft found the end zone in Week 12. Low cost, low floor option. Better DFS play than he is season-long.
