So I just finished up a 12 Team PPR Mock and thought I’d let you take a look at the raw data.  No auction draft follows the same pattern of your last auction.  There are always players that go for way too much and players that end up going for a dollar that you would have paid 10 dollars for at a different point of the draft.  That is why giving cash values for players isn’t always that helpful.  A lot depends on who needs what at the time.  Patience and knowing when to strike is the biggest key in auctions.  Check out my auction strategy post from back in the day.  We were all given 200 fake dollars to make a fake team through a fake auction. I don’t love my team, but don’t despise it either.  I’ll break this draft and my team down soon, but what do you guys and gal think?  Who is the big winner of the draft?

  1. I obviously won. I told you I would before the draft, and I did not disappoint. Also, I mock-drop Josh Morgan for Golden Tate. I did not want Morgan, and he would be on waivers right now.

@Doc: this was from yesterday’s post:

Thanks! That’s the way I was kind of leaning, being keeping Wayne and CJ. It’s a real tough choice though with Austin and Moss looming large. I really wish we did keep more, preferably my whole starting line, but I’m the Commish and I don’t think my leaguemates would be too happy with that, especially since I’m the 2-Time reigning Champ. I’ve also had a couple of friends who know their football pretty well say I should keep Moss because Brady is in a contract year, and another saying to keep Rice because he doesn’t trust CJ to do it again, and another saying to not keep Wayne because he tailed off the last 1/4 of the season last year and he thinks he’s on the downward slope.

What’s the difference between a “Dynasty” and a “Keeper”? We keep two, no time limit and no draft implications. It’s just your first two picks of the draft and then we start with the last place team. That could mean the difference in keeping Austin. Dallas’ offense could be disgusting this year…

Doc and Mr. 52’s teams are better than most, but I think FantasyFootballSoup has the best squad there. Favre for $4 is a steal, he’s got two elite WRs and an elite TE, not to mention a good stable of backs.

    /not FantasyFootballSoup

    Doc,

Like you, I like to envision a “perfect draft scenario” based on where I think players will go according to ADPs and rankings. My league is a 10 team PPR keeper and I’ve got Andre Johnson to start things. Picking 8th I see myself starting with Jamaal Charles and Calvin Johnson. Does owning too many players on crappy teams concern you at all?

  5. BP says:

The fantasyfix looks to be a tough competitor

  6. Nate Marcum says:
    (link)

The fantasyfix does look like the team to beat. I personally think there are some great values out there. Santana Moss for $1 is a steal as well as Malcolm Floyd. They could very easily produce like two solid #2s, thus freeing up a lot of $$$ to spend on top flight RB’s and a top 5 QB. At least that is the way I am gonna go into my auction draft.

    Good team tho Doc!

  7. @Doc: hi, wondering how youd approach/strategize this draft position. 3rd overall pick in a 10-team keeper league snake draft (Im keeping J.charles w/10th rd slot).

    Start 2 QBs w/scoring of 1pt/40yds, 6pts/td, -2pts/INT
    2 RBs – 1pt/15 yrds, 6pts/td
3WR – same scoring as RBs (NO PPR)

guys like brees, brady, manning, schaub, AP, ray rice, MJD will be there for me (rodgers, Chris johnson kept)…….

1st rd, would you target a top tier RB or QB (rice/mjd/ap or brees/manning/brady…..already own charles) and which positions would you target in the 2nd and 3rd rd?

    Thanks

    @Mr. 52 Pick-Up: mm, hmm

@Wilsonian: I don’t care for Moss going up against Revis and Jets and the Bills stout secondary 4 times. He’ll get his, but I like Indy’s schedule. Austin is tempting, but they have a lot of mouths to feed. I really don’t think you can go wrong with any. Any RB is a risk. Can Rice recreate his huge season? I think he’s got about the same chance as CJ. He doesn’t have to get 2k to be the #1 back.

A Dynasty allows you to keep all your players. A 2 person keeper is still a lot different than say a 5 person keeper. I don’t worry as much about holding onto young talent in a 2 man keeper because there is a very good chance you’ll end up with 2 really quality players to keep no matter.

@Ian: It really depends on their situation. We’ve seen what JC and Megatron can do. So I wouldn’t worry too much.

@Timmy Riggins: With 2 QBs and your keepers I would target 2 QBs in the first 3 picks and grab the best value RB/WR with the other one.

  9. Timmy Riggins says:
    (link)

@Doc: thanks….quick follow up; so you’d take the best avail QB with the 3rd overall over rice/mjd/ap? howd you play the first rd? thanks

  10. Doc

    Doc says:
    (link)

@Timmy Riggins: hah, I was leaving that up to you! No, I would take ANY of the top 4 first, no matter what. Then grab 2 QBs asap.

malcom floyd for $1 could be the steal of the draft…

  12. Doc

    Doc says:
    (link)

@ETMcgee: Yep, he was buried in the long list of $1 WRs and got lost in the shuffle. There are always good deals when you are down to just a little money and only a few teams.

  13. AdamH says:
    (link)

Doc, are you going to do a Top 100 for PPR or 0.5 PPR?

    Keep up the good work.

  14. Wilsonian says:
    (link)

@Doc: thanks, Doc! That was damn helpful. It looks like Wayne and CJ it is! Now just what to go for with my first two picks…

  15. Doc

    Doc says:

@AdamH: Yeah, that’s on the agenda! I need a secretary!

    @Wilsonian: Glad I could help.

    Nice! You da man!

  17. JY says:

Really want to know what people think about Forsett at $16? I’ve seen his values anywhere from $5 to $16… (this being the highest)

  18. Doc

    Doc says:
    (link)

@JY: Too much for me. I would say 10 would be about right, but we did just hear that it could be a committee approach.

  19. Are you kidding me?! A backfield made up of Ronnie Brown, Ahmad Bradshaw, Felix Jones? That’s the worst collection of scrubs I’ve ever seen. And Greg Olsen looks like a great source of 0 points from the TE spot.

As for Forsett, people are paying way too much for a part-time player. Don’t fall for the trap of his padded garbage time stats.

  20. Fonzy says:
    (link)

8 Sierra Nevadas in the first hour of this auction resulted in getting stuck with Olsen. We will leave that spot empty and still win.

Or maybe we will start Heath Miller.

Pumped on the value we got early, which didn’t force us to overspend late.

    Good Times.

  21. Great feedback, you are currently the ONLY site on google which provides any PPR auction advice. Thanks for that!

Ever consider doing a top 100 or 200 PPR auction list? It would bring in the hits b/c there are NONE currently out there, and I sure could use one.

  22. Doc

    Doc says:
    (link)

@Drunk Nerds: I could just add that to my top 100 ppr.

  23. I would love it. Like I said, finding auction ppr values is near-impossible. I’ve resorted to making my own formulae :P

  24. matt says:
    (link)

Do you have the order of the draft? How did D’Angelo Williams only go for $30. That seems like a steal. Same for Mendehall. And Foster for $6. Having my draft next week, would be interested to see how yours played out round by round.

  25. Doc

    Doc says:

@matt: Things have changed quite a bit since this draft. I’ll see if I can find something though.
