good Taken reference the other day.
everybody see this: steadman bailey (waiting out 4 game weed suspension) was in FLA, when he was shot in the head and hip. Not expected to die early reports are saying, and nothing else. He’s not hanging around with very nice people. Wonder what he was up to. Wonder if he’s up to other things besides weed (or maybe a lot of weed).
@Cheese Eating Surrender Monkey: another report mentioned that he was shot TWICE in head, and again, not likely to die. Did gun manufacturers at some point forget the point of what a gun does? Not quite like the 50 Cent thing, but still, it seems like guns used to kill you if shot in the head. I’d love to hear what an actuary would say as to just how lucky he got here.
@Cheese Eating Surrender Monkey: What’s this world coming too when someone gets shot in the head for getting high? I blame Obama.
wow, hard to believe in a PPR dynasty forsett not only was got by me for 5/100 (my last 5), esp by week 12 (one would think teams out of it, like me, would be hoarding up using FAAB to do so), but no 2nd bid of any type was made. must be a lot of teams having given up completely. doesn’t speak well for this league being competitive at all going forward. pretty decent RB with Forte/Ivory/Forsett/Woodhead, even if White is just short term fill in type for now. Plus i could always trade from my sick depth at WR with Jordy/Allen/Edelman/D-Jax/Hankerson/R.Matthews?Agholor to get another RB. Based on this year’s performances i have 3 top 15ish WR’s right there.
@Montezuma’s Revenge… right now: Yeah, it’s a nice gamble. He’s old, he’s injured, but for a few bucks? Why not?
How would rank these Qbs ROS? They would be a backup insurance policy in case my starter goes down heading into playoffs. Deep leavgue so most everyone else is taken – Bradford, McCown, or Osweiler?
@Benny: Osweiler for now, maybe Bradford depending on Manning’s recovery.
@Jay: this would have to be recovery to about early dec 2014 though for him starting to make sense.
@What’s a Drexl?: Or 5 years ago, but never under-estimate a veteran coach doing weird veteran things with his team. But yeah, Osweiler should have the reigns.
@Jay: i just tried to pick the last time we’ve seen him look decent. damn shame in one league i didn’t give more weight (or did anybody really in rankings) to how bad he was in playoffs last year. he did set records just what, 2 years back. he wasn’t bad till late in year last year either. Dude is trying to go out like reverse Barry Sanders over here, or Shaun Alexander as if RB’s were to get reps based solely on their legacy (which RB don’t at all)
@What’s a Drexl?: He might have a lot of issues with his neck as well. He says he already wants to come back next season. I understand, as that’s not exactly the way to go out, but he might have been a season too late from retiring this year.
@Jay: the neck thing probably started last year. With these athletes the same confidence that allowed them to get to the top of the world in their skill set is the very thing keeping their minds in a lot of cases from accepting what’s real. Probably the most interesting aspect of sports psychology. What used to be the very thing they needed to succeed in the first place (ego and drive unchecked by normal dose of thought/skepticism) now makes them look quite stupid, as their bodies no longer cooperate with being a top player, or in his case, even a replacement level one.
It’s like when somebody gets married and actually believes that they “will always love the spouse forever”, when anybody that knows anything about human emotions knows that you have no control over your emotions (in short term or definitely long term) and making that promise for your entire future existence basically proves you have no interior knowledge of what emotions are. Many people of course just go through these motions since it’s a societal norm to do so and are quite aware of not being able to guarantee future emotional states.
st louis or green bay defense this week? i currently have the rams.
also would u drop snead, rishard matthews, or desean jackson to pick up vincent jackson?
@mark: Chicago is a legit matchup for the Packers this week. Leaning Green Bay. And probably Matthews.
ROS standard: Snead, Mike Floyd or Aiken? I don’t need them to start this week.
@Steve Stevenson: never mind–just saw that you have ROS updated as well and these guys are all bunched together for you too
@Steve Stevenson: Yeah, all really similar.
Trade Deadline Time!
12 Team PPR – I’m in first so trying to set myself up for a good playoff run. I’ve got a few trade options:
My Team:
QB: Cam Newton
RB: D. Woodhead, F. Gore, C. West, C. Ware, J. Stewart
WR: Dez Bryant, Antonio Brown, Allen Robinson, Alshon Jeffery, Stefon Diggs
TE: Delanie Walker, Jordan Reed
My J. Stewart for his L. McCoy
My F. Gore or D. Woodhead for either Rawls or Buck Allen
Should I do the first one and/or any combination of the second one?
@STL: I’d keep Stewart, but I do like the Woodhead for Rawls pickup. Not so much for Allen.
Jay ROS do you like the Chiefs D or Pats D more?
@Kendrick Llama: Tough question, probably Chiefs very slightly.
You forgot to rank Hoyer!!
Do you like Bradshaw as a pickup over Duke J ROS?
Start Mariota or Hoyer this week?
Thanks!
@Nick: Shit, all is lost.
I’m good with that. Gore’s issues seems worrisome. Thinking Mariota, let me slot Hoyer in right now…
@Jay: or since I have a lot of receivers, drop one of the following and hold Duke J? What you think? Who’s weakest?
Amari Cooper, Ty Hilton, Stevie J, D Adams, Desean Jax, Jordan Matthews…
@Nick: I do have AP Demarco, S Ware & will have Bradshaw so I suppose Duke J is expendable in a 10 tea, non ppr !
@Nick: Hmm, I like all of them right now. Tough decision. I’m okay still letting Duke go.
What rb would you stash and wait in right now?–> ware, Bradshaw, grimes, Powell. It’s for ros fwiw.
Looks like I’m going bortles> romo this week?
Lastly, I need to pick 3 wr from the following: Antonio, dez, martavis, Alshon, sammy.
I’m in a must win and terrified of Alshon being a decoy if he goes. Please just sit him if he’s not going to be a part of the game plan chicago!
Thank you. Happy holidays.
Bradshaw. And yep, Romo has a tough game with the Panthers. Watkins is the odd man out, along with Jeffery. And Happy Thanksgiving!
Pick 3 for this week – McFadden, J-Stew, DeAngelo Williams, Javorius Allen. Thanks.
@Jack: JStew, DMC, and Williams seem like a good balance.
Would you be more worried about DeAngelo or Martavis having success against the Seahawks D?
@Jack: Williams. But I’m not too worried. He’s part of the passing game as well.
Am in a standard league with no bonus or PPR and cant decide how to shake out the RB/Flex situation. Alot of players going Thursday though so need to make decisions
RB – E. Lacy, J. Hill, D. Williams
[also have A. Blue, J. White, T. Coleman, and A. Bradshaw as matchup/injury report plays]
WR – A. Brown, D. Bryant, R. Cobb, B. Lafell
..and have Dalton, Eifert, Jets D, and Broncos K to fill out the rest.
Right now im starting Lacy/Williams and then Brown/Bryant with Cobb flex
@Z Best: if it’s worth noting too im going to get wrecked on Points For tiebreakers at my already middling record, so am playing for big points or bust as well as the win
@Z Best: I think you have the best lineup there. I’d go with that.
Whassup Jay. Need advice more than ever this week. Tough choices.
Dalton
Peterson
Gurley
Megatron
Allen Robinson
Olsen
Lamar Miller
Bench
Romo
Lynch – presumably out
Rawls
DeAngelo Williams
Martavius Bryant
E. Sanders – prob still out/hurt
I’m thinking Miller deff should get swapped for either Williams or Rawls. What do you think about Romo this week and what do you think about Bryant? Robinson has a tough match-up but seems to excel during the hard ones.
@b: Yeah, going Rawls there. I iffy on both, it’s going to be a tough game.
Need 2 WR
Martavis Bryant
Diggs
LaFell
Hurns
Thanks in advance
@J: Also, if Charcandrick doesn’t start, are you going to plug in Ware?
Thanks again
@J: LaFell and Bryant. Probably on Ware.
randle apparently is in stage 1 or 2 of the lawrence phillips tryouts. he hasn’t graduated to the really hardcore steps (hardy is better off with those), like woman beating up and down stairs (with and without weapons), and liquor store robberies. Most recently cherry on the top of a pre planned prison murder of his cellmate while sleeping.
@The Harrow: justrandlethings.
Need 1 WR
Cobb
Martavis Bryant
Thanks in advance
@J: Leaning Cobb. np!
with floor and ceilings taken into account, would you roll this week in std league
WR: Julio ARob
RB: JStew Ivory
Flex: Calvin
Bench: Demaryius, CWest, Gore
@Zandy: I have the same as you.
@Jay: who would’ve thunk preseason that anybody could have 3 WR better than DT! crazy.
Hey Jay,
I was thinking Hoyer would be higher. In fact I picked him up to start over Matt Ryan because of saints matchchup. Also because Hiuer has quietly out up solid numbers this whole season. So did you rank him that way because you expect the saints defense to play above their heads the first week without Rob Ryan? Thanks in advance.
@G: It’s definitely fluid. And I might move him up the next few days, but I’m still deciding how the Saints defense will respond. They actually have good players, so what if they stopped believing in the system? What new schemes will be brought out? The only game that Miami did well in this season was when they got a new HC.
If Ertz is a no go (likely), how far up would you bump Celek?
@Steve Stevenson: Probably five or so spots.
Jay, can you help me with some roster decisions? Here’s my lineup below:
QB Newton
RB Peterson
RB Yeldon
WR Megatron
WR Allen
TE Rodgers
FL Langford
Bench
RB West
RB Ware
RB Blue
RB Bradshaw
RB Starks
RB White
WR Amendola
WR Cooper
WR Cobb
My problem is such. If both West and Amendola are listed as questionable I can put them on the IR spot this weekend. I haven’t heard anything from the NFL yet.
If they are listed as Probable or better then I have two players that I must drop prior to tomorrow morning’s game. Which two would you choose from the list above?
Thanks and have a Happy Thanksgiving.
@Citizen5: If that’s the case, I think you drop Blue and White. Sucks as it may, those are probably your lowest options.
Flex – Javorius, Martavis, or Latavius? Gotta love the names.
@Jack: Murray. Haha.
no martellus for thurs. where does zmiller move in the rankings?
@Zandy: I’ll be updating it shortly, but I’m thinking now right behind Ben Watson?
Would you lose tanne in Superflex for Mariota? (-1 for qb sack)
I also have Wilson
@Kendrick Llama: At this point, it seems justifiable. I’d do it.
@Kendrick Llama: pretty much ANY starting QB in super flex is better than most non QB (exceptions of course for very good non-QB’s). 14th ranked TE’s certainly don’t approach “very good non-QB” for this. It’s possible a VERY bad low volume QB (think Foles) would be an exception to this, but even in that exact instance i’d still go starting QB over 14th ranked TE. Tamme might very well be moved up a little bit since Hankerson is out though for this week. Mariota still better though.
Hey, Jay! Tevon Coleman, Ware, and Deveon Funchess are all available on the wire. Who should I add out of these three? Thanks!
@Jerry: Sup! Ware for now.
Also, forgot to add Draughn to that list too
@Jerry: Close, but still liking Ware ove rhim.
you don’t like Hoyer vs that soft new Orleans D?
@Scott: I’m mulling on it.
12 team 1point PPR
If Devontae Freeman can’t play this week, where does Tevin Coleman rank?
@Chadaristic: Top 30’s, probably around 24,25 maybe.
Howdy Jay happy thanksgiving!
Trade deadline is thanksgiving at 12noon
.5 ppr based on my team would you trade Lamar miller for Greg Olsen or mike Evans? He also has Gary barnidge
My QBs Palmer & romo
Rbs: Lamar miller, Jonathan Stewart, Rawls, jay ajayi, Jeremy hill, Tevin Coleman, charcanderick west.
WRs: Demaryius, alshon, Calvin Johnson, diggs, lafell, john brown
Te: is gates
I’m also aiming for his Demarco Murray would you do a combo for Murray + Evans , Murray + Olsen, or Evans + Olsen?
— other owners team
His RBs: Demarco Murray, woodhead, Bernard, Antonio Andrews, vereen, Ryan Matthews,
His WRs: Antonio brown, Evans, James jones, Pierre garçon, rueben Randle, Emmanuel sanders,
His TEs are Olsen & barnidge
I’m in must win mode too
@Bobbys world: Happy T-day! Probably for Mike Evans, but to be honest, I’d rather hold for now.
I’m in. A 12 team , half point ppr league …..with 4 keepers
I have
Qb – Brees , Wilson
Rb – lacy, Blount, gore, Matt jones
Wr – Evans, Antonio brown, Cobb, James jones
Te – eifert, witten
D – Denver
Somebody just dropped Jordan Matthews , Marshall lynch and the jets d.
Would you make any swaps ?
I feel like witten is droppable , but for who?
@Side dish: drop witten and stash lynch for playoffs is the only move I see. You have Eifert so he is just wasted depth at this point.
@Side dish: I’d go for Lynch over Jones, and Matthews over Witten.
Just curious as to why so low on Carson Palmer this week? He’s pretty much proven to be matchup proof and going against the SF def that you don’t even have ranked. Read the rankings and advice every week and this one just caught me as a bit strange.
@BornTooLate: Top five is still pretty high, I just see the other QBs having better games.
@Jay: sorry man when I posted you had him lower, like around 11 I think.
Update your ranks for Spencer Ware, I’m plugging him in at flex!
For QB, why you so low on Hoyer? I have Mariota on bench/-Hoyer in… thinking Hoyer has better matchup…
For WR, do I consider benching Ty Hilton? I have Amari at WR1 & a choice of Ty, Stevie J, Desean Jax, Jordan Matthews or Davante Adams for WR2 & 3, what’s ur picks?
@Nick: They are actually getting updated now. I actually moved Hoyer up a bit, I think that’s as high as I’m willing to go.
I think you should keep an open mind, I think he could be a sit in some games.
@Jay: that game being against TB?? I just don’t know, tough to bench your #4 round pick but I know what your saying
@Nick: is he playing as if he’s a 4th round pick? if so keep playing him like it. otherwise……
would you consider dropping martellus? i dont know if i can continue to deal with this guy. im stil a vernon davis truther. i think i’ll take that guy to my fantasy grave before i drink the martellus bennet kool-aid much longer (one more game thats it i swear)
also. dont be swayed by us commenters. if you think hoyer is going to be lackluster keep it. thats why i love this site because you guys rarely get pulled around by the commenters. i know in baseball if someone dosent agree they usually get a nice ‘cool’ or ‘nice’ comment back. and low and behold grey is righ tmor than hes wrong.
have a happy holidays thanks for all you do
@martellusbennet: it was a tough call. In the end, I moved him up a little, but yeah, thanks!
And keep Marty a bit longer until Davis at least shows something. Could be this Sunday.
@martellusbennet: as somebody who’s lost hundreds of dollars a few years back owning VD in two leagues where in week 16 he got ZERO pts when all i needed was .4 and 1.2 total pts (PPR leagues so ONE CATCH would’ve worked) don’t get VD, you’ll feel just like you got VD in regular life. Gilmore will likely be better than both of these guys, he has been all year and it’s not like Schlub can throw deep at all.
must win spot, which guy am I flexing? .5 ppr
Only one spot, thanks!
This is assuming I play lafell over all those WR
Inman @ Jax
Roob randle @Was
Terrance Williams Vs Caroline
Langford @ GB
@Oppo Taco: Langford, but it’s close.
how should i play out this alshon jeffery situation..
my team is looking banged up (devante out, martellus out, alshon q, etc etc)
i also have antonio brown, so theres that.
1) alshon or martavis
2) bradshaw or tevin coleman……… (if frnk gore sits)
@turkeyday: it’s an easy coleman, i’m seeing nothing indicating gore sits. of course if exactly freeman somehow plays go bradshaw.
Byes over, injuries mounting and piddling with the middling options to tweak the team before rosters lock. For 12 man PPR 2rb 3 WR no flex I currently have:
Brees and Russell (bye week fill in)
Blount/cj2k/ware/Hyde
Arob/Jeffery/la fell/Tate
Kelce
Best ROS WR is Kendall and Boldin
Best ROS rbs might be Blue and Melvin
So what moves would you make? I’m thinking I need wright and a healthier RB and probably should drop Wilson for one of those moves.
@The imp: well, I don’t know if you want to hear it, but I like this team as is. I might drop Wilson for a blue for depth, but that’s about it.
@Jay: thanks, Jay. I appreciate that. Most of these players are at the edge of our leagues depth and a gold makes sense.
@The imp: yeah, I dig your team.
So I’m in a tough spot, and this may be a little long winded so bare with me :). I’m in a 14 team keeper league, $200 draft cap, 4pt passing TD, 0.5PPR. I’m 6-5, sitting in 9th place, 8 teams make the playoffs. Teams ranked 6 through 9 are 6-5, and the team in 10th is 5-6. I clearly have low points overall on the season, and the team in 10th has more points than me with an easy end of season finish so they will likely finish 7-6.
I face 2 tough opponents, including the first place team next week. I will likely need to win out and finish 8-5 if I wanted to make the playoffs, because if I finish 7-6 I think I will finish 9th – not certain, but a gut feeling. I have 2 offers in front of me, one makes me a keeper team, one makes me a contender this year. I’m stubborn and hate giving up on the season (I was 2-5 at one point but didn’t throw in the towel) but I’m wondering if it’s my best bet based on the situation I am in. Here are the two deals and my roster (I will put keeper prices in parentheses for potential keepers)
I give: Todd Gurley ($13)
I get: Julio Jones, Emmanuel Sanders, Alfred Blue
I give: Andrew Luck, Ben Roethlisberger, Brandon Marshall ($25), Alshon Jeffery, Charcandrick West, and Ronnie Hillman ($15)
I get: Devonta Freeman ($7), Tyler Lockett ($5), Jonathan Stewart ($11), Julian Edelman ($26)
My roster:
QB – Ben Roethlisberger
WR – Brandon Marshall
WR – Alshon Jeffery
WR – Dontrelle Inman
RB – Todd Gurley
RB – Charcandrick West
TE – Jason Witten
W/R/T – Ronnie Hillman
Q/W/R/T – Andrew Luck
BEN – Matt Hasselbeck, Marquess Wilson, CJ Anderson, Reuben Randle, Peyton Manning
Which direction should I head in?
@Cheese: honestly, I would hold off here. I think, especially in this format, your players have the best value.
alshon jeffery or martavis bryant?
@turkeyday: Bryant.
respect the Carolina D!
@Scott: Always and forevermore.
The Jets are going to be without Revis. are they going down?
@Scott: Not unlike other Jets teams, this seems like part of a regressional phase.
good call on CAR @ DAL being likely better than NYJ vs MIA. i didn’t trust that and benched CAR for NYJ in one league. full on romonobyl going on here. 31 pts with 4 min left for CAR D. good thing i have them in at least 2 other leagues where i don’t carry 2 D’s.
@What’s a Drexl?: Thanks!
.5 ppr league
Alfred Blue or Tevin Coleman?
thanks jay! hope you had a good turkey day!
ryan
@ryanoger: Blue, but only because he has volume right now. I do like Coleman just as much, but he’s not as serviceable. And thanks! Happy T-day to you too!
With Devonta Freeman officially ruled out now… would you start Coleman over either AJ Green or Chris Ivory?
Thanks in advance!
@Rice: Probably not, but Coleman certainly will go up in the next set of rankings.
Antonio Gates or Crockett Gillmore for week 12? I know the rankings have Gates up higher than Gillmore, but just knowing that Gates is playing at half-speed makes me want to start Gillmore instead…decisions, decisions….
This week is do or die for me to get into the playoffs. Who would you trust more?
Thank you!
Yeah, I understand the concern, and will probably move him further down. Though, he does have the higher ceiling, even if at half-speed, but the safe play, and in this situation, Gillmore works.
do or die, need upside..
rams d/st or cleveland..
what i like about cleveland is my opponent will be done, so i will have either won already or still have the cleveland d/st to go.. that being said. if i’m down by 4 or 5 points this could be a huge headache!!
@mrbojangles: CLE isn’t close to STL D. i know Schlub could himself make CLE better this week, but you’d be getting pretty cute to assume that.
@Mordacious Levator: what about the bills vs kc then? or reverse it and go baltimore vs cleveland?
i’m fully aware stl d/st is better, but that doesent mean they’ll be the better option per se. its not just matt schaub, although the pick 6’s he serves up on a silver platter are pretty nice. its the entire baltimore team. they have nothing left. plust st louis is so bad the other team gets amazing field position all day every day. and they’re playing andy dalton whos red hot (no pun intended) who just dismantled an equally good defense (cardinals) who have an amazing offense to boot.
i have no confidence in this unit anymore but obviously still come here because i respect this site and the info they provide. i think everyone is blinded by stl having a good d/st but dont appreciate how bad their offense is. at least they have gurley.
@mrbojangles: Dalton’s “red hot”. i suppose 1 game might make that. take a look at Dalton’s week 10. i’d do CLE over BUF (they’ve been mostly bad all year, even as they went into year as supposed top 6 D, kinda like HOU)
@Mordacious Levator: Still, Bojangles makes a really really good point in that they are still the Browns. Haha.
@mrbojangles: Yeah, if so, I’m going Rams there.
for standard’s i can’t find mike floyd?
@Montezuma’s Revenge… right now: Ah, really? Could be my fault, I’ll edit it right now.
@Jay: i see him now, and he’s back to back with the guy i’m making the decision on, him or reed.
@Montezuma’s Revenge… right now: how badly would the other m.floyd playing already (seems early) hurt s.johnson’s PPR ranking? in the two spots i have him it’s either him
1. or m.jones/m.floyd (ARI)
and in a standard him or
2. could go with tamme over s.johnson in one of the flex spots. have gates/s.johnson in those now, with olsen in TE, and julio/hurns/a.rob in WR spots. also have rivers, so this team is pretty involved with SD throwing. have allen in RES slot too.
i got the old snead vs hurns in PPR. i could flex one of them, but coleman is ranked higher since he’s starting. I guess you have no worries (or at least are more worried about hurns’ injury) about snead being a decoy last time he played? of course hurns didn’t do much either last time.
@Mantis Toboggan MD: oh yeah, same league,
2. already having hurns/snead/a.brown/evans/garcon stick with garcon or grab one of hartline/k.martin? neither of these will play with also having stewart/j.allen/duke john/white/coleman and only 1 flex spot (start 2 RB, 3 WR)
@Mantis Toboggan MD: i cleaned these up and changed them a bit, so don’t answer here if you see them.
wow, first time i’ve ever seen you so low on woodhead. JAX does rank 2nd vs Rushing, but i bet it has more to do with how they are ranked 30th vs passing offense, teams don’t need to rush against them. Most telling here i think is that JAX is 26th in passing offense for RB’s, and that’s woodhead’s domain.
http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/teamdef
@Crapshoot Kershaw: oops, just realized this is wrong spot.
