Dynasty Prospects: Wide Receivers of the Combine

In case you’ve missed our previous posts regarding the Combine (WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?!), I touched on the draft-eligible Tight Ends here, the Quarterbacks here, and will be highlighting the Running Backs tomorrow. But today, please excuse me while I fawn over the wide receiver class, hard. This year has be proclaimed to be the deepest WR class in a long, long time, maybe ever. This class is deep, like real deep. And its not just deep, it has elite level talent at the top, too. You could tell me that any of the top 10-12 guys in the class went in the 1st round and I wouldn’t bat an eye, although I’ve never really understood that saying… I told you yesterday that these wideouts are pretty damn good. I love the group of WRs in this class more than I do any other position group at the Combine. I seriously love these wide receivers more than Manti Te’o loved Lennay Kekua, you know, until she died. It was such a sad story and touching story… Wait, you mean to tell me none of that was real? Where the hell have I been… Anywho, where was I? Oh yeah, this wide receiver class is thebomb.com. That’s right folks. The anticipation has been mind boggling. MIND. BOGGLING. To be totally honest, I’m not quite famlier with what the Combine is or what it does. Just a few months ago, I thought it was a part in F/A 18 Hornet Fighter Jet. Why? Because it’s a jet. That can shoot missiles. Makes thing’s go boom… ya know, the stuff that matters. But to my surprise, and disappointment, I found out that the combine has nothing to do with M61A1 20-millimeter gun pew-pews. In fact, here’s where my research led me:

“The NFL Scouting Combine is a week-long showcase occurring every February at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, where college football players perform physical and mental tests in front of National Football League coaches, general managers, and scouts.”

Well, that certainly set me straight. And while I may not know much about the Combine, we’ve dedicated our Dynasty Contributor, Josh O., to the subject-matter, providing you the lowdown, fantasy-wise, on the Combine. Good content does exist this time of year! Unlike Manti Te’o’s girlfriend. Which, actually, doesn’t exist any years. Fascinating…

Honey Badger And Friends Set To Fatten Goodell’s Wallet

The 2013 NFL draft was ripe with talent on the defensive side of the ball, and there are quite a few guys picked that should go on to be perennial Pro Bowlers. But even the best defensive players may not start lighting up the stat sheet until the end of their first season, or even later. JJ Watt and Jason Pierre-Paul didn’t take the league by storm until their second year, Ronde Barber didn’t truly break out until his fourth season in the league, and we’re still waiting on Vernon Gholston to show us what he’s got.

From a fantasy perspective, this year’s draft doesn’t have anyone who is likely to match Luke Kuechly’s LB1 output in 2012. In fact, we’ll be lucky to see something like Vontaze Burfict’s LB24 finish. The top talent is probably at Defensive Tackle, and while the big boys are vital to a team’s defensive success, they don’t tend to have much of an impact in IDP leagues that don’t require their presence.

But that doesn’t mean we won’t have any impact rookies this year, it just may take some time to figure out who they are. Here is a look at each position and how relevant the rookies will be in 2013 IDP leagues.
